I’d like to use the rest of today’s post to share with you a letter from a 79 year old man to his Senator in Congress. Do yourself a favor and read on and then pass it on. God Bless.<\/p>\n

This came from a democrat much to my surprise!\u00c2\u00a0 I read it and it certainly<\/p>\n
hits the nail where it would hurt.\u00c2\u00a0 Google has the letter posted on their<\/p>\n
web site.<\/p>\n
This is well written…….and should be read by everyone in these United<\/p>\n
States!<\/p>\n
It will be well worth the three minutes it requires to read this.\u00c2\u00a0 It is<\/p>\n
quite impressive.<\/p>\n
You can be Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Conservative, Independent or<\/p>\n
Libertarian and I bet this will hit a nerve.\u00c2\u00a0 Our country is in real<\/p>\n
trouble.<\/p>\n
This gentleman is obviously quite smarter than the two senators he sent it<\/p>\n
sent to the two U.S. Senators from Washington State.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

Dear Senators:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I have tried to live by the rules my entire life.\u00c2\u00a0 My father was a Command<\/p>\n
Sergeant Major, U.S. Army, who died of combat related stresses shortly<\/p>\n
after his retirement.\u00c2\u00a0 It was he who instilled in me those virtues he felt<\/p>\n
important – honesty, duty, patriotism and obeying the laws of God and of<\/p>\n
our various governments.\u00c2\u00a0 I have served my country, paid my taxes, worked<\/p>\n
hard, volunteered and donated my fair share of money, time and artifacts.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Today, as I approach my 79th birthday, I am heart-broken when I look at my<\/p>\n
country and my government. I shall only point out a very few things<\/p>\n
abysmally wrong which you can multiply by a thousand fold.\u00c2\u00a0 I have<\/p>\n
calculated that all the money I have paid in income taxes my entire life<\/p>\n
cannot even keep the Senate barbershop open for one year!\u00c2\u00a0 Only Heaven and<\/p>\n
a few tight-lipped actuarial types know what the Senate dining room costs<\/p>\n
the taxpayers.\u00c2\u00a0 So please, enjoy your haircuts and meals on us.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Last year, the president spent an estimated $1.4 billion on himself and<\/p>\n
his family.\u00c2\u00a0 The vice president spends $ millions on hotels.\u00c2\u00a0 They have had<\/p>\n
8 vacations so far this year!\u00c2\u00a0 And our House of Representatives and Senate<\/p>\n
have become America’s answer to the Saudi royal family.\u00c2\u00a0 You have become<\/p>\n
the “perfumed princes and princesses” of our country.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In the middle of the night, you voted in the Affordable Health Care Act,<\/p>\n
a.k.a. “Obamacare,” a bill which no more than a handful of senators or<\/p>\n
representatives read more than several paragraphs, crammed it down our<\/p>\n
throats, and then promptly exempted yourselves from it substituting your<\/p>\n
own taxpayer-subsidized golden health care insurance.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You live exceedingly well, eat and drink as well as the “one percenters,”<\/p>\n
consistently vote yourselves perks and pay raises while making 3.5 times<\/p>\n
the average U.S. individual income, and give up nothing while you (as well<\/p>\n
as the president and veep) ask us to sacrifice due to sequestration (for<\/p>\n
which, of course, you plan to blame the Republicans, anyway).<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You understand very well the only two rules you need to know – (1) How to<\/p>\n
get elected, and (2) How to get re-elected.\u00c2\u00a0 And you do this with the aid<\/p>\n
of an eagerly willing and partisan press, speeches permeated with a certain<\/p>\n
economy of truth, and by buying the votes of the greedy, the ill-informed<\/p>\n
and under-educated citizens (and non-citizens, too, many of whom do vote)<\/p>\n
who are looking for a handout rather than a job.\u00c2\u00a0 Your so-called “safety<\/p>\n
net” has become a hammock for the lazy.\u00c2\u00a0 And, what is it now, about 49 or<\/p>\n
50 million on food stamps – pretty much all Democrat voters – and the<\/p>\n
program is absolutely rife with fraud and absolutely no congressional<\/p>\n
oversight?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I would offer that you are not entirely to blame.\u00c2\u00a0 What changed you is the<\/p>\n
seductive environment of power in which you have immersed yourselves.\u00c2\u00a0 It<\/p>\n
is the nature of both houses of Congress which requires you to subordinate<\/p>\n
your virtue in order to get anything done until you have achieved a<\/p>\n
leadership role.\u00c2\u00a0 To paraphrase President Reagan, it appears that the<\/p>\n
second oldest profession (politics), bears a remarkably strong resemblance<\/p>\n
to the oldest.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
As the hirsute first Baron John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton (1834 –<\/p>\n
1902), English historian and moralist, so aptly and accurately stated,<\/p>\n
“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.\u00c2\u00a0 Great men<\/p>\n
are almost always bad men.” \u00c2\u00a0I’m only guessing that this applies to the<\/p>\n
female sex as well.\u00c2\u00a0 Tell me, is there a more corrupt entity in this<\/p>\n
country than Congress?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
While we middle class people continue to struggle, our government becomes<\/p>\n
less and less transparent, more and more bureaucratic, and ever so much<\/p>\n
more dictatorial, using Czars and Secretaries to tell us (just to mention a<\/p>\n
very few) what kind of light bulbs we must purchase, how much soda or<\/p>\n
hamburgers we can eat, what cars we can drive, gasoline to use, and what<\/p>\n
health care we must buy.\u00c2\u00a0 Countless thousands of pages of regulations<\/p>\n
strangle our businesses costing the consumer more and more every day.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
As I face my final year, or so, with cancer, my president and my<\/p>\n
government tell me “You’ll just have to take a pill,” while you, Senator,<\/p>\n
your colleagues, the president, and other exulted government officials and<\/p>\n
their families will get the best possible health care on our tax dollars<\/p>\n
until you are called home by your Creator while also enjoying a retirement<\/p>\n
beyond my wildest dreams, which of course, you voted for yourselves and we<\/p>\n
pay for.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The chances of you reading this letter are practically zero as your staff<\/p>\n
will not pass it on, but with a little luck, a form letter response might<\/p>\n
be generated by them with an auto signature applied, hoping we will believe<\/p>\n
that you, our senator or representative, has heard us and actually cares.<\/p>\n
This letter will, however, go on line where many others will have the<\/p>\n
chance to read one person’s opinion, rightly or wrongly, about this<\/p>\n
government, its administration and its senators and representatives.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I only hope that occasionally you might quietly thank the taxpayer for all<\/p>\n
the generous entitlements which you have voted yourselves, for which, by<\/p>\n
law, we must pay, unless, of course, it just goes on the $19 trillion<\/p>\n
national debt for which your children and ours, and your grandchildren and<\/p>\n
ours, ad infinitum, must eventually try to pick up the tab.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
My final thoughts are that it must take a person who has either lost his<\/p>\n
or her soul, or conscience, or both, to seek re-election and continue to<\/p>\n
destroy the country that I deeply love.\u00c2\u00a0 You have put it so far in debt<\/p>\n
that we will never pay it off while your lot improves by the minute,<\/p>\n
because of your power.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For you, Senator, will never stand up to the rascals in your House who<\/p>\n
constantly deceive the American people.\u00c2\u00a0 And that, my dear Senator, is how<\/p>\n
power has corrupted you and the entire Congress.\u00c2\u00a0 The only answer to clean<\/p>\n
up this cesspool is term limits.\u00c2\u00a0 This, of course, will kill the goose that<\/p>\n
lays your golden eggs.\u00c2\u00a0 And woe be to him (or her) who would dare to bring<\/p>\n
it up.<\/p>\n
