According to the Gospels, Jesus was arrested, tried and sentenced to death by crucifixion. Christians believe he died on the cross, was buried in a tomb and rose from the dead three days later on Easter Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are a few explanations for why such a somber day would be referred to as \u201cgood.\u201d As Dictionary.com<\/a> explains, the word \u201cgood\u201d had several meanings in Old English. In references to \u201cGood Friday\u201d in the 1200s, \u201cgood\u201d appears to be synonymous with \u201choly\u201d or \u201csolemn.\u201d A similar example of this use of \u201cgood\u201d may be the description of the Bible as \u201cthe Good Book.\u201d Other scholars suggest today\u2019s word may have evolved from other terms and that the original observance may have been an iteration of \u201cGod\u2019s Friday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another interpretation centers on theology: Christians believe Jesus\u2019 death brought salvation and forgiveness of sins, making the day \u201cgood\u201d in a spiritual sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Take a moment to reflect on the day and be thankful that Jesus died for your sins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n SNOW! Not all the places in the mountains got much, but I’ll bet I had a foot, of wet heavy snow on the truck this morning. It took me a good hour, maybe an hour and a half, to shovel the driveway.
