Up early again

This going to work at 7am is getting old. We have to get out of bed at 5:30 to leave at 6:30 to make it there by 7. I gotta tell you, we’re not getting paid enough! Oh wait, we’re not getting paid at all, ha.

Yesterday I mostly hung around the house. Lori and I stopped at her moms and swapped beds after the gym. She then went back to her mom’s a few times while I stayed here. We had them bring in the hospital bed that titled up but that was a no go, so we took it out and out the old one back in her room. A couple more days and I can go into the sun. I’m starting to look better, ha.

Ty is taking the 4:30 van to Denver this afternoon to hang out with Maddie for a few days. I’ll take him from work to Vail around 4. The Bronco’s were on last night and we looked good. We should have won but our 4th stringers gave up a late field goal and we lost by 1 point.

Big storm coming to Southern California. Hurricanes don’t normally make it to the west coast, so they’re not really prepared for all the rain heading their way.

A few more shootings in Denver, nice. It’s getting so you can’t go anywhere in any big city these days. Thanks Joe!

Oh did you see the revelation about “meat glue”? The FDA approved this additive to meat in the 90’s and did it under the radar so people wouldn’t freak out. Check this out.

Meat Glue—Pink Slime’s Far More Sickening Sibling

Back in 2012, an ABC news lead story about Pink Slime (called in the industry by the more appetizing name, “finely textured beef”) struck a chord of disgust in the meat-eating public.

Petitions were formed to get the product out of the school lunch program, and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver conducted pink slime demos where he put beef scraps in a washing machine and then soaked them in ammonia and water.

Right before the slime hit the fan, however, ABC news affiliates spilled the beans about another underground meat practice. It was the use of an enzyme called transglutaminase, or, as it’s more commonly referred to, meat glue.

Now, even though meat glue has the potential to be a lot more hazardous to your health than pink slime, for some reason, the public couldn’t quite seem to wrap its head around it in the same way.

While some stories appeared in the press at the time, there were no petitions or consumers calling on the FDA or USDA to do something about it. In fact, some big-name chefs even came out in praise of meat glue.

For example, Wylie Dufresne, who was both chef and owner of the super-pricy Manhattan eatery wd~50 (which closed in 2014), was quoted in Meat Paper as saying he had “concocted all manner of playful and bizarre food products with meat glue, including shrimp spaghetti, which he made by mixing salt, cayenne, deveined shrimp, and meat glue in a blender.”

“Meat glue,” Dufresne declared, “makes us better chefs.”

However, even if you’re dining at an elegant establishment like wd~50, you may want to think twice about eating “glued” food. That’s one of the problems with this stuff—the appearance of food in which it has been used can definitely be deceiving. By the way, this is banned in Europe.

This is perhaps one of the most important reasons you need to go out of your way to avoid this additive. It might help explain the explosion of gut and digestive troubles that are plaguing so many these days. By your meat locally from a good butcher and watch out for poultry too! Gross!

Time to get going. Have a great Sunday. Take care, be safe and God Bless.

Healing

The swelling on my face has gone down since yesterday but I’m still red. I look like I have a bad sunburn with some brown spots. Getting better every day. Lori brought her Mom up yesterday. We had a hospital bed brought in so she could sleep sitting up a bit, but she just slides down anyhow so we’re putting her old bed back in her room. It’s larger which is better for her as we don’t want her rolling out of it. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, ha.

Ty works at 7 so we’re up here at 5:40. We leave at 6:30 to drop him and go to the gym. We had a good rainstorm last night. It came down pretty hard. Bronco’s are on tonight at 6. Robi and Robert have a bad cold. Hope they’re better today.

Ty cleaned his room yesterday and it looks really good. Not sure if Jag is coming up today or not. When you’re 21 it’s much more fun hanging with your friends than your parents, remember?

That’s it, time to get moving and grooving. Make it a great weekend. God Bless.

All Good

My derm appointment wasn’t bad at all. I look like I have a suntan with a few spots but that’s about it. I can wash my face this morning but I need to keep this gel type stuff on for a couple days so my skin doesn’t dry out. It’s nothing like the treatment Lori has done every few years. You can do this once a month if you want but I’m good as this removed all the bumps and imperfections according to Chelsea. I’m a little swollen today but should be good to go by the end of the weekend. I’ll need to skip the gym this morning as I shouldn’t sweat.

Ty works today again and I think Jag might come up and go to the concert in Aspen tomorrow with some friends. If not, I’ll give the tickets away. Nice outside right now. Hot in the city. Dixie is doing well. We had a good visit the day before yesterday, as she was as alert and engaging as ever. Lori saw her yesterday.

The Leadville 100 starts tomorrow. It’s a historic 1oo mile race that people come from all over for. The record is 15 hours and 42 minutes which is unbelievable. That’s about 6 and a half miles per hour or a mile just under every 10 minutes! Think about that! When I’m at the gym on the treadmill, I do 15 minute miles, of course I’m not running, but still. Also if you don’t know, Leadville is 10,200 feet high in elevation. So there’s your useless fact for the day.

Guess I’ll get moving. I’m having two cups of coffee this morning as I slept so so with my face. Lori is looking as lovely as ever. She thinks she needs to get all cleaned up to look good but she looks great even when she rolls out of bed. What a burden for her. I call her a hot mess in the mornings!

Make it a great day and have a great weekend, God Bless.

Dermatologist

This morning I’m getting a cool peel at the dermatologist. It’s supposed to take off all the dead skin and help your skin rejuvenate itself. Should be done by 12:30 and then will head home.

Yesterday we had a big rainstorm come in around 4:00 pm. It was probably the hardest storm we’ve had here this year. We’ll take rain anytime.

Ty worked 10 hours yesterday and Lori did too. Lori will work from home today and Ty works again until 5. Jag is coming up today or tomorrow, not sure. I went and saw Dixie and turned on her tv and brought her some mail and helped her with her lunch. She’s doing well and had a good day.

That’s it, time to get moving. Hope everyone is well, enjoy and live life, God Bless.

Hot

Mid 90’s in Denver. That’s about normal for this time of year. I saw on the news that by this time last year we had 51 days 90 degrees or above and as of yesterday, have had 20 so far this year. So, last year was much warmer. Didn’t seem all that warm in Denver yesterday. I’m down again tomorrow getting some facial treatment at the dermatologist.

Ty works at 8 this morning and I’ll be working around the house. Nice outside right now. We made it back up from Denver by about 3 yesterday as we left the dealer around 1pm. Jag is getting his oil change at the Audi dealer today and will be back up tomorrow.

Our new horse is doing well. He chased a cow around in the pen yesterday and today will be out in the fields working a herd.

Biden is as confused as ever. He mumbles and makes no sense while speaking, even though everything he’s supposed to say is on his teleprompter. Once he can no longer stick to the teleprompter, he’s done. When he’s through talking he always gets confused and doesn’t know how to get off the stage. Unbelievable that this guy in 2023 represents our Country. So embarrassing. You can’t make this up and yet everyone, especially the mainstream media, ignores it and continues to cover for his mental decline, not to mention the influence peddling. What a World we live in.

6:12am now, time to go. Have a great day and God Bless.

Picking up Ty

I’m off at 6:45 to pick up Ty, get the truck serviced and run a couple other errands. Should be back between 1 and 2. Yesterday we walked the 1-and-a-half-mile loop with Harley and skipped the gym. I dropped some wine off in Beaver Creek and Lori took Dixie to get her nails done. She’s still able to get up and out which is good. Before that, she came up here and we had her in the backyard in the sun visiting with Jagger.

Nice weather up here but you can tell there’s a change coming. You can feel it in the morning. I guess the southern States are supposed to be much colder this winter while we’ll be just a little bit colder with average snow. Average snow is still a lot of snow!

Lori works in Edwards today and Vail tomorrow. I need to get some groceries today as our fridge is bare. Not much else going on, same old shit. Oh there’s a new song that’s pissing all the libs off. This guy in Virgina wrote it and since they don’t like it, they’ve labeled it racist. That’s pretty much their go to, anything they oppose they call racist. That’s why this song and the Jason Alden song is so popular, people are seeing through this and are about done putting up with it. There’s an awakening in the heartland as people are tired of the leftists on the costs telling everyone else what to do. Sooner or later this will come to a head. You can only push people so far.

Take care, be safe and God Bless.

Fun

After a big day around the house, we headed to Gerry and Marci’s around 4:30. We met them and headed to Splendido at 5 for dinner. Dinner was great as usual as it’s the best restaurant in the valley. We had the restaurant give us the short 2 minute ride to the Vilar for the show after we ate. We walked in and made our way to our box about one minute before the show started.

Not sure how many of you know Boz Skaggs but the show was amazing! He was an original member of The Steve Miller Band and played with numerous other great guys also. He’s 79 now but you would have never known. He sounded as good as he did in the 70’s and his band was full of great players. Gerry and Marci’s seats are probably the best in the 550-seat venue. They have box seats on the right side of the stage that are the closest you can get to the artists in the whole place. He played for almost 2 hours and it was probably the best show we’ve seen up here in Vail.

When walking out, we were looking for our ride which wasn’t right out front. Everyone up here knows everyone, especially in the Vilar crowd, so a couple saw us and yelled, “come on, we’ll all jump in our car”. So six of us made our way into a Jeep Wagoneer and headed back to the restaurant where we left our car. Lori and I didn’t know these people, but turns out, the wife is head of the Vilar, which is the venue where all the shows up here are. It’s all subsidized by donations from wealthy people in the valley so big name acts can be brought in. After the two minute ride, they insisted we come in for a drink. These people knew everyone, and it was clear they were very important people as everyone was coming up to them basically kissing their ass. They were the nicest people and we really hit it off. Lori was looking lovely as always as and the wife was genuinely so happy to meet us and when some other billionaire came over to the table, she introduced Lori as Lovely Lori. They were super sweet, nice and down to earth. We exchanged info and she said, we’re going to put all your wine in the Vilar right away, so there’s that too.

After about an hour we made it back to our car at Gerry and Marci’s and headed home. We made it home around 10:30. We found out after calling Jag that he drove Ty to Frisco so he could catch the bus to Denver to go down last night to stay with Maddie. I’ll pick him up tomorrow and this saved me a trip today. Today we’re working around the house and slept in to 6:30 which was nice as it was 11:30 when we went to sleep.

Have a great day, almost halfway through the month. Be well, stay safe and God Bless.

Hanging in there

Dixie gave everyone a scare yesterday. When we were in Vail for lunch, 3 or 4 nurses were in with her as her oxygen was low. We called right away as we saw what was going on through the cameras. The problem is when she sleeps, she breathes through her mouth and not her nose where the oxygen hose is. Once she starts breathing through her nose, her O2 levels go right up. They said her BP was also low, but we let them know, that’s normal for her. It’s 5:45 am and Lori just looked at her on the camera and Dixie was opening her door and heading out for a stroll. The caregiver saw her and just put her back to bed. She is getting frail, and we have to force her to eat but she still understands us and can joke around. We switched her to a full-face oxygen mask which will be much better as long as she leaves it on.

Ty finished up work at 5 and went over to our friend Chris’s new Italian place next door to his work the dinner shift for another 3 hours busing tables as Chris was short staffed at his place. I guess the bus boy and hostess both called in sick or didn’t show so Ty said he’d go over and help out. They were super appreciative and would love to have Ty work there. When I picked him up at 8:30, he said maybe he could work two jobs to really make money. Poor kid was tired though as he worked 13 hours yesterday. It’s almost 6 and he needs to be back at work at 7 so I need to wake him in 5 minutes. He has a great work ethic, and everyone loves him.

We’ll take him and then go to the gym. We could use a break too as between Ty and Dixie, we’re running around here and there all day long. We hung out with Dix for 3 hours on the way home from lunch. Lunch was great with Jim and Julie. Jim’s parents showed up halfway through our meal and sat close to us. His dad Peter is an amazing guy who I’ve known for a few years. It was great to see them.

We had a good rain in Vail yesterday. It’s a little cloudy outside right now but nice. Time to get moving. Ty’s having a hard time getting up, understandably so. Jag is heading up today.

James and I texted back and forth yesterday, and he is doing well. He has his second show in I think Toronto tonight and then is off to Dallas. Then L.A. and then we’ll all be in Phoenix. Being on the road that long has to be hard. He’ll get a month break pretty soon.

Have a great Sunday, be safe, take care and God Bless.

Crown Royal Sale

Last night at 6 the auction started in Rock Springs Wyoming. Jake and his family including his mom, were there ready to go. Jake’s my Partner in Wyoming on horses and cows and other ranching ventures. The preview was the night before, so we knew which horses we were interested in. I was following along online, and we were texting and talking on the phone as the bidding started. We had limits we decided each horse was worth based on our research, their temperament and bloodlines. A couple we wanted early went for way more than we thought they were worth, so we stuck to our plan and let them go.

Finally up was Lot # 16 who was a nice 3 year old gelding Jake had seen and checked out before the show. We weren’t sure how much he’d go for but decided earlier we’d make a run at him. When the bidding was over we thought we’d won and then thought we were outbid by $500 and lost him. It was hard to hear on the phone and Jake’s text’s were confusing so after getting excited, we were bummed we lost him. A few minutes later when I got Jake back on the phone discussing other horses we might go after, Jake said, “you want two horses”? Not sure what he meant, I said “what, I thought we lost him” and then he said, “no sir, we got him”! So, disappointment changed to being thrilled as we have our first horse of our new venture. We watched a few more and were going to make a run at another one if we could steal one, but the ones we targeted, went for way more than we knew they were worth.

Jake went over to the insurance lady and signed us up and I paid for the horse and today, if they have room in the trailer, he’ll go to his new home at the 100,000 acre Brush Creek Ranch and Spa in Saratoga Wyoming. He’ll live there and work cows and be trained for a year at least before we put him in another sale and sell him. We’ll go up and see him in a few weeks. We’re super excited. Here’s a couple pictures.

You can also click on this link to see more about him. Might name him Chief after a horse we had growing up, we’ll see. It’s up to Lori, ha.

In other news, Jag is all done and crushed it, Ty is working hard and we are too. Make it a great Saturday, we have lunch with Jim and Julie, our friends who bought a few islands in Belize a couple of years ago and keep bugging us to come down. We always get together when they’re up this way.

Be well, stay safe and God Bless.

Friday!

Jag’s last day of school! He has his final at 3:30 today and then I think is heading up. Ty works at 8 and we’ll head to the gym after dropping him off.

Last night we had cigar night and six of us made it. We took a picture for the video at James party right before a solid down pour moved into the area. It was a good soaker. I picked Ty up at work on the way home. They sure love him. He’s thinking about staying up here and continuing his job as he is realizing he can’t make the money he makes up here, down in Denver. Good for him. I told him if he works until the end of the year, he could bank $15,000 to $20,000 or more depending on how much he saves.

Nice up here in the mornings. I have the garage open again to cool it down. Trash is out at the curb and it’s 6:45 in the morning.

Bronco football tonight! Can’t wait, as it marks the beginning of Fall and the new season. I think Ty works until 5 so by the time we get home, we can grab some dinner and get ready for the game at 7.

Waiting to hear if Jake found any horses to buy at the sale preview last night. I thought about going but it’s a hike and Jake is the one who knows what to look for, I’d just be hanging out. Should know more today.

That’s it, have a great day and a great weekend, God Bless.
