back to school

What a trip, what a day. We made it to Boulder around 10:15 and after parking near Jag’s place were in an Uber headed toward one of the frat houses. The house was a broken down, 15 room Victorian that Jag said was worth something like $13 million dollars. Inside it was disgusting. None of the moms would use the bathrooms, ha. As soon as we arrived Jag seemed to know everyone. In the backyard there was a banner which was a bed sheet that was painted welcoming parents to the weekend. Soon the place filled up. Loud music, hung over students and parents filled the area and slowly woke up from their overindulgence the night before. Scantly clad girls, or I guess young women, were everywhere. Lori said it’s like they all were dressing up as hookers for Halloween. In reality, that’s just how college girls dress these days.

We met lots of good kids that Jag introduced us to and some parents. After a couple hours we walked over to the game. The game was so so for the first half and then the Buffs pulled away for a victory. The best part of the whole game was the atmosphere in the beginning with the band and Ralphie the Buffalo running on the field to start the game. I told Lori it was like an old Fred Mc Murray Disney movie we used to watch on Sunday nights when we were kids. We left the game early and walked to the car weaving between intoxicated kids, and some parents and headed to Pearl Street to go to Pizza Locale which is a top Italian place owned by a long time friend and client of mine. We had a nice lunch and it gave us a chance to talk which you couldn’t do at the game. Jag is so well adjusted and on top of his game. After lunch at 4:30 we headed to Whole Foods to get some food for us for today and we turned Jag loose with his own cart to get what ever groceries he wanted. $600 later we headed to his place.

When we walked in it looked almost as bad as the frat house. It needed a deep cleaning and I guess Jag’s roommate is pretty messy according to him. And that’s saying a lot! So he began to put his food away while Lori went into Mama Bear cleaning mode. I took bags of trash and cardboard boxes to the trash chute by the elevator. In no time at all Lori had the place looking like it was when they moved in. I moved the car from the basement and bought 3 orders of Mac and Cheese from a food truck outside. I brought two home and left Jag one. Mine was jalapeno and really good. There was another party at the frat house at 9 last night but Jagger was clearly tired from the night before and decided not to go. I think most people skipped it. We had a really nice day and finally pulled in around 9 pm at home. It was a long day. Ty was emptying the dishwashers and had been riding horses earlier in the day and then was at the climbing gym.

Today James and Marty are coming over to watch the game. Lori of course is making us some fantastic meal. James texted from his plane yesterday if we knew where he could get a covid PCR test and get the results back by Tuesday as he’s flying to Canada for a deer hunt. Lucky he texted when he did as it took Lori some work to get it done. She had to call in a few favors for this one. She’s already made a cheesecake and has it in the oven this morning. Think we’re having bison tenderloins.

Tomorrow Jag and I are headed down to Tommy’s to go to sushi! Can’t wait as Tom and I had fun last time and Jag is excited to join us. Lori wants to go to but has to work clinic. Ty will be back in school. Fun day, we miss Jag and he misses us and it was great to hang with him. Oh to be back in college. I told Tommy it was like a Will Ferrell movie. God Bless.

Off to college!

Like the Will Farrell movie, Lori and I are headed back to college. We need to be in Boulder by 10:15 at Jag’s and then we’ll head over to the frat. They have a chicken and waffle truck coming and we’ll tailgate until we go to the game around 1 or 1:30. After the game at 9 pm tonight there is another party but we won’t be staying for that. Oh to be 20 again. If we did that’d be like 12 or 14 hours of partying. And that’s why we’re not in college, ha.

Yesterday Ty passed his driving test! Now all I need to do is take him down to get his picture taken and then he has his license. The instructor said he’s a safe driver. Next up we have to look for a car. Dixie came over for dinner but I took Ty to the football game after we ate so I missed most of her visit.

Nice and sunny this weekend, more snow on Tuesday but the little we received all melted yesterday. Time to get moving. I sold the Broncos tickets for tomorrow as I just can’t make the drive twice. Might go down Monday and have lunch with Tom. Have a great weekend, God Bless.

Snow!

It’s here, the white stuff. Not on the driveway or roads but on the grass, nice. Today at 4 Ty has his driving test then, assuming he passes, we can go pick up his license next week. Luckily I made it to Denver for Lori’s snow tires yesterday. I was back by noon.

Tomorrow we’re in Boulder. Sunday the Broncos play the Raiders. Haven’t decided whether or not we’re going yet. Last week was no fun.

Lori’s dexa scan (bone scan) came back normal. We wanted to see if her bones were weak and if that was contributing to her headache and degenerated discs. Luckily they’re good.

Prices are skyrocketing. A half gallon of Half and Half that used to be $5.99 was $9.79 yesterday! Everything else you buy is up too. No pleasure in saying, told ya so!

We went to visit Dixie yesterday. Thought she was coming up for dinner but she decided not to. Maybe tonight. Time to go, lots to do. I have a 10am call for 30 minutes with California but that’s it for the day. Take care, Go Buffs and Go Broncos, God Bless.

Down and up

Hope to be on the road in 40 minutes and back by noon. A little weather is coming but not like yesterday. No snow at the house except a dusting yesterday morning. Lori is home today with Ty.

I stopped by Dixie’s yesterday for a bit over an hour. She wants to go to Oklahoma. I tried to explain that no one is there and her family farm is gone. She wasn’t buying it.

Jag is doing well and excited we’re coming down and going to the football game with him. Not sure what else is planned for the day but it should be fun.

Time to run so I can shower and get on the road. Be well, GB

Go or no go

Need to go to Denver. Right now I-70 westbound is closed on the other side of the tunnel. Looks like it is clearing up and should be better in a few hours. I really need to get Lori’s snow tires on. Think I’ll give it a go. Lori works in Vail today so I could drop her off.

Yesterday I built a shelf in the basement. I have one more to build so I can organize things better. Ty needs to stay home and get better as he still has his cold. No snow here. Had the elk and deer fences put up around the trees yesterday. If not, they’ll eat them clean.

Now to politics or should I say, nothing short of the future of our Country. Just when you’d think things couldn’t get worse, the bill the dems are pushing still contains a law the requires banks to report all transactions over $600! $600! That’s a Costco trip, or one snow tire, maybe some new clothes! Is this really any of the governments business? The problem is this would only be the beginning. Everyone needs to email and/or call their Senators and Congressmen TODAY and tell them if they pass this you’ll never vote for them or any democrat again. Even if you’ve never voted for a democrat, please do this. The ramifications of such an overreaching law are catastrophic. Please do this, it won’t take you more than a few minutes.

I’ll leave it at that as everyone now knows everything is more expensive, things we take for granted at the grocery or drug store are nowhere to be found, gas is $5 a gallon, illegal immigration is out of control, and by the way, none of them are vaccinated and on and on. No one could imagine how much the dems could screw things up in such a short amount of time. About 5 million people quit their jobs last month instead of getting a mandated vaccine. If someone doesn’t want to get it, let them be. Unbelievable. Hold on as things are going to get much worse before they get better. So much for leaving it at that!

Parents Weekend

Saturday we’re headed down to Boulder for Parents Weekend. First up I think we’re going to the Frat where they have a food truck and then Jag, Lori and I are going to the CU football game. Weather will be about 60 degrees, should be a blast, can’t wait! A nice Fall college football game!

No snow up here, yet. Suppose to be on the way. Ty had basketball and lacrosse yesterday and might have pulled his hamstring. He works out at 2 today. Maybe his trainer can stretch it out. We’re trying to decide whether to buy him some used car or step up for a new one like a Toyota 4 Runner. Normally it’s be a no brainer but these days due to shortages, used cars are a few thousand less than new ones. It’s crazy. But don’t worry because Joe says it’s all an illusion and things are great! Ha ha ha.

Still waiting on Lori’s tires to come in. Guess we’re lucky we’re even getting them at all. Lori said we need to start buying Christmas gifts now. She’s right. This year though we’ll be buying practical gifts that people can actually use and need. No more buying things just to buy them.

Time to go, hope everyone is well, GB.

Week off

Lori and Ty are sick. Thought they were getting better but it doesn’t look that way. Hopefully they’ll both turn the corner today. At least he’s off all week.

I made ribs while watching football only to throw one rack away as they were bad. I just bought them so I assumed they’d be fresh. Bummer. Marty and I hung out from about 5:30 until 8:30.

Gas prices went up again. So is everything else. Not much else to say except “let’s go Brandon”. Google it if you don’t know what I’m talking about, God Bless.

Another trip

I headed out to Denver at 8 for the tire change and upon arrival learned the tires did not arrive. Ugh. The guy was super apologetic and offered to comp me all the costs when they do come in, supposedly tomorrow, but still it was 4 hours of driving. Not to waste the trip, I went to Edwards Meat Market down on 44th for some steaks, beef and pork ribs. Think I’ll fire up the smoker again today for football.

Lori did 14 loads of laundry while I was gone! When I made it home I went to the hardware store for a Shop Vac and then to our egg lady’s house for 3 dozen fresh eggs. I use Mom’s Ace Hardware number so whenever I buy something there they look me up they say “Lois?” to verify the account. Kind of funny.

Cooler outside but nice. Lori had a fever last night and is still sleeping. Ty is a little sick too. Hopefully both will be better today. They say a little snow probably Tuesday afternoon. Hope to get the snow tires Tuesday morning.

Guess I’ll go, time for coffee and then I need to clean up the smoker for the next round of ribs. Here’s a picture of the dusting we had yesterday and round one of ribs. Go Broncos and God Bless.

Getting ready

Yesterday I managed to get a lot of work done around the house. Had the sprinklers winterized, the oven fixed, heat tape installed in the drain pipe outside and something else I can’t think of right now, ha. This morning I’m off to Lakewood to have Lori’s snow tires put on. I have a 1 pm appointment but will get to town around 10 and see if they can squeeze me in early.

I smoked three racks of ribs on the smoker yesterday for a little over 6 hours and I nailed it. They turned out great. Marty came over for dinner and we brought Dixie up. Ty went to a football game.

Looks like a dusting of snow next week. Lori decorated outside for Halloween yesterday and hung these witches or goblins that screech and make sound when you move them or get close to them. We didn’t realize that when the wind would blow in the middle of the night that it’d set them off. So around 4 am I woke to this eerie screeching sound. It took me a minute to figure out it was her decorations outside blowing in the wind. So now we know they work.

Lori is still sick. She has my head cold but soldiers on daily. She worked half a day yesterday and just needs to relax and rest for a day or two. Hopefully she can do that this weekend. She has a fever this morning.

Think we found a car for Ty. I made an offer and they said no so I said ok, thanks and bye. Within 30 minutes they came back and said they changed their mind and will take my offer so we’ll probably get it. Guess they didn’t know who they were dealing with, ha. Time to get going so I can head out. Make it a great weekend. Almost a third of the way through October. Tom and Robi, it’s Harry’s birthday today! John Lennon’s too! God Bless.

7am Basketball

35 minutes until we’re on the road. Basketball at 7. Jag got 100/100 on 3 of his mid-terms and 96/100 on his fourth. Man that kid is an academic. Lori and I went to Denver for hair appointments and then stopped and looked at a used Audi Marty’s neighbor has for sale for Ty. When we arrived Coach Karl of Nuggets fame was just finishing up. He’s super skinny as he had throat and prostate cancer but is still kicking. The car is super clean with one ding in the plastic front bumper. We’re in negotiations with the guy right now to see if we can make it work.

Lori brought Dixie up for dinner. Today Lori works in the morning and should be home by noon. She’s still fighting off a cold. Today is the best day I’ve had (so far) in 2 weeks.

Biden is tumbling in the polls despite their manipulating of him, the press and the facts and his flat out lies. In all my life I’ve never seen a President act the way he does. Again though this guy is so far gone it’s hard to blame him. He’s just a puppet for Obama or Sanders or Soros or all of them. Yesterday he said some things like vaccinated people can’t get covid that just make you roll your eyes. God help us.

Time to get moving as I’m consciously distancing myself from getting sucked into politics. I’m sort of a hero with my friends on Facebook for leaving Facebook. Funny. Been getting all kinds of calls and emails and texts congratulating me for taking a stand. Hmmm. I do have 3 or 4 friends who followed my lead and got off too. Won’t make a difference though but you have to try.

Time to move and groove. Ty fell back asleep and Lori is filling out some form for one of his classes. Take care, God Bless.
