The weekend is here! Thank God. Ty works at 7 and its leg day at the gym. Lori is still sleeping but I need to get her up so we can leave in 45 minutes.
I mentioned going to Arizona yesterday in about a week. Turns out, we’re not going February 2nd, but February 22nd! I misheard the dates when Dr. B is out of town. That’s ok, it should be much warmer then anyhow. Only bad thing is Robi and Robert will be in Florida. We should be back in March though, so we’ll see them then. We’re of course flying JSX which means we get to avoid DIA and Sky Harbor as we’ll fly into Scottsdale Airport with all the other private planes. It’s the new, only way to fly!
Jag is doing well. He loves his new computer. We had cigar night last night with the guys and it was fun as usual. We have a great group of men. The cleaners came yesterday which was nice. We haven’t had them in a couple weeks.
Best news of the day is it looks like our close friend Tina, does not have cancer! We were all on edge waiting for her to have her appointment. It was her birthday yesterday too. Good b-day present.
I have to run into Vail this morning but that should only take an hour. Lori will be working from home. The big warm up and melt is coming. Lots of elk in the neighborhood grazing away through the snow. Sure would be nice to have an early Spring.
Looks like a dusting of snow outside. Not much, probably less than an inch. Supposed to be in the 60’s in Denver next week, whoo hoo. That means at least the middle 50’s up here. Bring on Spring!
Lori had a long day yesterday in Frisco and so did Ty at work. I’m sure he has a concussion from his crash snowboarding. His helmet cracked in two when he hit. Shouldn’t try to do backflips!
We’ll drop Ty at 8 this morning and then go to the gym. Then Lori is getting her nails done with Dea our neighbor, and she’ll ride home with her. I think the house cleaners come today as Lori hasn’t said she cancelled them. The Christmas lights on the house came down yesterday. Darryl, our window washer, puts them up in November and then comes and take them down. I spent some time picking up dog crap in the backyard. Thought that was a kid job, but I guess not.
Might go down to Phoenix the weekend after next. Need to see if Ty can get a ride to and from work. Dea gave us the Friends and Family code for JSX so flights are super cheap.

Middle of the week. Lori’s in Frisco today. Aspen was fine. I was in and out quick. My friend Rollie was struggling with her chemo treatments and not feeling well. We feel so bad for her. Prayer though works as later in the day, after her appointment, she texted her markers were down 40%! That’s a big freakin deal! Happy for her. Later in the day, I was talking with our close friend Tina, and she has to go in tomorrow morning as one of her markers on her blood test was super elevated. They’re sending her straight to the cancer center. She’s had a cough she can’t kick since getting back from Dubai. She did have a chest x-ray though which was clean, so they’re not sure what’s going on. We’re hoping it’s just her liver as that’ll heal by itself if it’s not too damaged, if she stops drinking. They live the good life, (that’s a figure of speech) and are always out drinking, partying, traveling, or something. I’ve been telling her for years she needs to quit drinking or at least quit the hard stuff. She told me she should have listened to me and is now going to change her lifestyle. Here’s a tip for you all, you can’t fucking party like you’re 20 when you’re 50 or 60! Hope it’s nothing serious.
Lori got a $20K raise yesterday! Whoo hoo! Dr. B. said she deserves much more as she’s priceless, which she is. She also has her 2023 bonus coming hopefully in time for property taxes. This is obviously great news.
Ty was on the mountain again yesterday. Good for him. He works at 8 this morning and I’ll drop him before going to the gym. I’m doing about 10 to 12 miles a week on the treadmill and am committed to sticking to it through February. It’s not so much about losing weight as it is about toning and balance and stuff. Too detailed to explain and no one wants to hear it anyhow. I’m over the caffeine addiction. No headaches, dizziness or anything else associated with it. I feel a lot better and am pretty much level during the day now. For the first few days, I was dragging and felt like I needed a nap, ha.

After my quick trip to Denver yesterday, I’m off to Aspen this morning. Should be back by 2 or so. Ty had a good day on the mountain. He took a couple crashes and has a nice goose egg on his head. Not sure if he’s going back for more today.
I’m on my third day of almost zero caffeine. Turns out I was drinking around ten shots throughout a normal day. I’d have a coffee when I wake up, one after working out, then a large nitro usually early afternoon and another can of nitro around 3 or 4. I’m down to one decaf every morning when I wake up and that’s it. For the first few days, I was super tired but I’m starting to get back to normal. I think I was just having a coffee to have a coffee. But caffeine is a drug, just like sugar, which I’ve abstained from too. Enough of me.
Lori has a 6:30 Zoom meeting so we’re up early. Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of when I hired Luisa. She’s like my grown-up daughter and we’ve been through a lot together. When I hired her, she was living in Seattle so on January 12th, 2004, she moved to Denver to work for me and then started on January 22nd of the same year. I totally forgot but she was on it as she’s detailed like that. That’s a long time if you think about it. If I would have known, I would have made a big deal about it. Might still do something.
We’re still trying to figure out where to go for vacation. I have $2500 credit on United and 400,000 miles. Lori has a couple hundred thousand too. I think Jag has 150,00 and Ty a little over 100,000. We’ve narrowed it down to Spain, Italy, France or Switzerland. We might do two of the four, we’ll see.
Last, Lori is organizing Dixie’s memorial service in Sacramento. It’s hard as we need to work around Lori’s, mine, Jagger’s and Kristin’s and the venue’s schedule. Could be the end of March or early May as of right now. She’s doing a video like I had done for Mom. Speaking of Mom, I was listening to a bunch of voice mails from her that I saved yesterday. I called Robi and let her listen to a few. In one, Mom called and said, “hey Doug, could you bring me a burrito? Ok, thanks, bye”. It’s pretty funny. Robi sounds a lot like Mom. It’s like she’s in the other room or across the street. I saved about 20 of them to my computer years ago. Good memories.

It’s the last full week of January. Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training next week! Bring on Spring! Ty had a long day and I think is going to the mountain today. I might do a quick turn to Denver, we’ll see. Tomorrow I’m in Aspen dropping off a donation for the big charity ball we were invited to. Lori and I decided not to go a few weeks ago. It’s just too much work and money. Hotel rooms at the St. Regis are $2k alone! No way.
Lori has had a bad headache for a couple days. Wish it’d go away. She works in Vail Monday and Tuesday and then Frisco Wednesday. 5:45am now, guess I’ll get moving. Have a great day and make it a great week! God Bless.
Two good football games yesterday and we have two more today. Ty worked all day. Before the games, I took down the Christmas decorations outside. We also made a quick run to Ace Hardware and Costco. No new snow, it was actually sunny and nice. More of that to come.
Ty works at 8 and then we’ll go to the gym. I’m backing off on heavy weights and switching to more cardio. 2 miles a day on the treadmill for a while, plus some stretching and abs.
Tomorrow I think I’ll be in Denver and Tuesday in Aspen. Might end up in Grand Junction tomorrow instead. I have a call today that will let me know.
Ten days left in January, hard to believe. We need to decide where we want to go after Jagger and Ava are out of school.
My new company is coming along well. Every day we refine the idea a bit more and are inching closer to making it happen. Things will pick up quickly next month.

The weekend is here, and that means football. It also means a break from work, and a little relaxation. Today is leg day at the gym. Ty works at 8 so we just woke up at 6. It was a grey day yesterday, but there was no snow. As I said the other day, it should be clear now for a while. Hopefully the big melt will continue.
Great basketball game last night. We obviously won and ended Boston’s unbeaten streak at home this season. Tom and I text back and forth through the games. We’ll do the same thing during the football games today.

Yesterday Ty and Vinny headed to the mountain for what turned out to be an epic day on the slopes. Vinny said it was the best day snowboarding he’d ever had in his life! Good for them. Ty works at 8 this morning, so we’ll all be out of here at 7:30am. I’m sure both boys will be sore today as there was a lot of snow.
I had my call from what turned out to be about 10:30 until 1:30. Long calls are brutal. Jag ordered up his new computer and I guess work, (his internship) is going really well. He has a two-hour window between classes today and is going to tell me more about it then. He likes all his new professors too which is great.
Seven of us made it to our fellowship last night. Good to see all the guys. Lori and I will go to the gym after dropping Ty and then be around the house all day.
It’s finally warming up here with lots of snow melting. Looks like clear weather for the next couple weeks. We always get a good storm middle of January. We’ll take the moisture though, especially after a slow start to winter.

Yesterday I headed out for Denver around 6:30am. I was on the fence as whether to go or not, as I wasn’t sure about the weather. I thought I could get down and up and beat the snow, if there was going to be any. The drive down wasn’t too bad. Vail Pass was the worst but then it was fine. I made it to the bank by 8:40 and was back on the road ten minutes later, feeling good. I stopped at Tom’s to pick up Ty’s birthday card and was back on the road by 9:20. All was good until a few miles from the tunnel. That’s where it slowed down and the snow picked up
It took me 15 minutes or so to get through and as I was driving down towards Silverthorne, Ty called and said Vail Pass was closed. I looked on Waze and it seemed open, so I also called Lori. She too said it looked closed. So, I stopped at Whole Foods to pick up Ty’s cake, (even though he doesn’t like cake), and then headed back out. Things were fine until about a half a mile from Copper Mountain, where the highway was indeed closed. I inched my way up between semis who were putting on chains. Lots of people got off and headed up to Leadville to go around. This adds a good half hour to the trip but also goes up over 10,000 feet in elevation. Seeing how it was snowing where I was, I decided to stay put, as I knew if it was snowing like it was where I was, it would only be worse 2000 feet higher. More on that later, but let’s just say, I was right.
The highway had been closed since 9am for snow and avalanche mitigation. I sat and made calls for about 45 minutes and then I saw the plows line up behind a State Patrol and knew we would be moving soon. Sure enough, a few minutes later, off they went. I quickly pulled out and passed 4 or 5 semis and ended up 2 cars behind the State Patrol that was pacing the caravan of cars and trucks, behind the snowplows. This worked fine and we made it over the pass going about 30 miles an hour. At the bottom, on the west side, the plows pulled off to head back up the other side, which was still closed, and it was clear highway ahead. All the plows must have been on the Pass though, as the highway was 6 inches deep with fresh powder. My truck sailed through though and off I went. I stopped at Hovey for some food and ran into James and Addy. Then it was 30 minutes more until home. I told Lori about the highway not being plowed in town, and she said there were lots of jack-knifed semis up in Leadville from where everyone tried to go around. That explained it.
Lori rushed home around 4:30 and then we turned around and headed back to Vail in two cars, for dinner at Mountain Standard. It was snowing hard and tenuous at best. Chandler, Ty’s manager, husband is the head chef there, so they got us in. We had a nice dinner with Ty and Vinny who drove up from Denver and was about an hour behind me. They’ve been friends since second grade. After dinner, we drove home and around 10, Ty had a few more buddies come over that couldn’t get out of town to go back to school. They’ll try to leave today. They stayed until about 1:30am hanging out downstairs.
Both boys are obviously sleeping now but are heading to the mountain today to go snowboarding. We’ll see if Vinny can get back to Denver later today. It’s still snowing right now and another 3 inches or so came down last night.
I have a call today at 10 and then some more computer work. Lori is already working, and we’ll probably go to the gym around 11.
The storm is moving out around 5pm and then the weather looks clear for about a week. It’s pretty outside and will be in the mid 30’s today. That’s it, time to get moving, guess I’ll go shovel, God Bless.
Today Ty is 20 years old! Are you kidding me? So hard for us to get our arms around that! He came home last night as Maddi’s dad was upset with her for calling off from work and so she’s basically grounded for 3 weeks! We were taking her and Ty to dinner last night, but now it’ll be just the three of us.
More snow coming in. I don’t think a lot, but on the passes, you never know. I’m making a bank run down to Denver to drop off some wine and make a deposit. I hope to be back by noon at the latest. I’m sure I’ll hit some snow.
Lori works in Vail today and I think Ty is riding with her and heading to the mountain. Jag’s computer died yesterday so there goes another $2K, cha ching!
