A Year of Change

It’s kind of a blur up here. There’s no free time in our lives. Between work and kids with all their stuff, there’s no time to sit down for even a minute. When you stop to think about it, it’s hard to believe how busy we are and how we never have a free moment in the day or night. As my Mom always said, you just do what you have to do. Lori just asked if we could just go back to bed for a week. She woke up at 3:36 and was up for a half hour or so.

I’m still trying to kick my cold but think I turned the corner a bit yesterday. I’m not out of the woods yet and am still a bit weak but am better. Now Lori, we only wish hers was just a cold or virus rather than structural. At least if I can get better, it’ll be easier on her as then she won’t have to do anything for me, ha.

I’m skipping Aspen’s tasting today and might put in an appearance in Vail tomorrow but am going to take it easy. We also cancelled Vegas this weekend. I have everything lined up and although it’s always good to see Andrea and Veronica, we’re just not up to it. Lori’s car goes down to Denver Thursday to get fixed so I’ll pick up a rental and hopefully get hers back at the beginning of next week.

Ty has two away basketball games this week with the first one being in Gypsum today. That’s about 40 miles west and I’ll go to watch and then drive him home. I picked Jag up at 7 last night from basketball practice. He goes to school from about 7:45 in the morning and then stays until basketball is over at 7pm. This is our new daily routine. I’ll have to see when Ty’s game is over tonight as Lori might have to go get Jag. Of course when he comes home around 7:30, then he’s starving. He does his homework between 3:30 and 5:30 at school until b-ball practice starts. I picked Ty up at 3:15 as he skipped basketball practice as he wasn’t feeling well. I think he was the carrier who initially gave me the crud. So that’s just a sample of the kids activities. Lori strolls in, in the dark, usually between 6, if she’s lucky, and 7pm.

Time to run and get the boys up. Lori’s on the couch moving slow and Mojo just had breakfast and is now taking his morning siesta. Have a great day, GB

Lori and I both were awake at 4, maybe a little earlier, mostly due to me not being able to sleep. My head is so plugged up it pounds with every breath. It’s mostly on the right side and feels like my sinus just won’t clear up. I’ve taken just about everything I can and it doesn’t seem to work. I hope it clears up soon as it’s hard to function like this. Of course Lori lives with this and worse, like every day.

I’m supposed to go to Aspen tomorrow but unless I have a huge recovery, I won’t be going. The boys have three weeks of school left so lots to do. They did go skiing yesterday from about 11 until 3:30. The snow was good and most of the people from opening day didn’t go back out due to the storm.

I think I have the flu. I haven’t been this sick as long as I can remember. I’m supposed to go to the game tonight with three buddies but might have to bag out. I’m trying to keep it out of my chest and lungs and have taken everything I can, traditional and homeopathic. Hope I get better soon as I have a huge week ahead of me.

It’s snowing outside now and supposed to keep snowing through Tuesday. I had to run down to Denver yesterday and on the way back up, stopped at a friends to pick up his MRI for Lori to give to the knee surgeon up here. When backing down his 100 yard driveway, wouldn’t you know it, I back into some rocks at the bottom of the road crunching Lori’s new car. I couldn’t believe it. There goes another $500 (our deductible) to have it fixed later this coming week. I was so pissed off. Here I am doing someone a favor and I crunch the left rear taillight and cowling of our car. Like my Mom said, a black cloud has been following me since Thanksgiving so you’d better stay away from me. Practicing what I preach, I told Lori, things can only get better!

I think the boys are going skiing today. We ran over to get their passes the other day and had to get Jag some new snow pants so they’re good to go. First up we’re supposed to go cut our tree but right now I don’t know if I’m going anywhere. If I don’t go to the game, I need to give my ticket to a fourth guy to go with my friends or ask Chris if he has a buddy to go. Time to run as my head and chest are pounding. We didn’t sleep much, apparently I was coughing with my cold all night and Lori’s head was hurting. We’re quite the pair. I have to rush down to the bank this morning as after getting a letter and then sitting on the phone with the I R S yesterday for over 2 hours, we need to send them another check we didn’t know about. We have (or had) a little bit of savings for Christmas and my birthday but now the govt will get it. This also means it looks like we’ll just be staying here for Christmas and my birthday instead of doing anything special, so no Hawaii, bummer.  So it was quite a day, first finding out we needed to send all the money we had saved, and then some to the govt, my cold turned into a full blown episode, maybe the flu, Lori’s head was pounding all day long and then at the end of the day, I looked down and had a hole on the big toe of my favorite pair of socks. So the way I look at it, today has to be better, right. Glass half full right? What a crap day. Oh oh, Lori’s now blowing her nose, hope she doesn’t get my cold.

Maybe this afternoon we’ll go cut our tree as we’re supposed to get hammered the next 4 days with snow. I’m supposed to be in Aspen Tuesday and then have an event here in Vail on Wednesday. Then on Friday we’re off to Vegas until Sunday.

We had a busy day getting out of here to go to Tom and Ali’s for turkey dinner. After waking at 7, we made it out the door a bit before noon and arrived right about 2. It was great to see Tom, Ali and my Mom and the dinner was great. We hung out until about 4 and then headed back up the hill for home as Mojo was waiting.

I had a bit of a sore throat and by the time we arrived home, it was really sore. A few hours later, my nose was stuffed and I couldn’t swallow. I found some antibiotics and took one and went to bed. I woke up at 3 am for about an hour and then slept until 7. The kids are still out but Lori and I are having coffee.

I think the mountain is open and the boys might go skiing. Time to go as I’m to worn out from writing. No Black Friday shopping for us. We might go cut our tree today, we’ll see how the day goes. Hope everyone survived turkey day, have a good weekend, GB.

Lots to be thankful for today, no matter who you are. Just look around the World and be happy that you live in a Country where you have the ability to live your life as you live your life. There’s so many people in the World who have no food, shelter or the basic freedoms we take for granted, every morning they wake up. In any case, we’re all very lucky. I always tell the boys, when looking at life, it’s best to focus on the good rather than the bad. You know, you can either look at the glass half empty or half full. So be thankful for all you have, and live each day to the fullest. Now onto the day.

It’s snowing outside, hard. We’re supposed to go to Denver today but I haven’t checked the highway yet. Outside there’s 5 or 6 inches here right now. We’ll give it a go if the pass is open.

Yesterday I had a good hunt bagging a dozen or so quail. I borrowed a shotgun from Luke as I let mine go a few weeks ago as I had an offer I couldn’t refuse. I remember driving to Grand Junction from Denver a few years ago when that particular shotgun was first released. I then had it fit to me by a legendary gun maker who recently passed away. I loved that gun but in the end, it was just a gun, but boy was it a good shooter. We decided to hunt quail instead of pheasant as they’re much better eating. Meanwhile Lori was cooking what turned out to be the best turkey I’ve had in my life, bar none. It was golden brown and moist and looked like something off a television show, and she doesn’t even like turkey! She then even made homemade gravy even though I had some in the fridge from Costco. What a great meal to come home to.

Lori woke up around 5 this morning. She says it wasn’t her head but I’m not so sure as she’s never one to complain. Mojo is sleeping away at her feet dreaming about big bones or something as every now and then his right paw flickers. We have a fire going and are watching a movie. It’s now 6am. Guess I’ll go, again, Happy Thanksgiving to you all and God Bless you too.

It’s a bit before 6 am and I’m taking off around 7 to go pheasant and quail hunting in Kiowa which is about an hour east of Denver. It’s a mini tradition as we’ve done it like 3 or 4 of the past 5 years. There’s four of us that go, Luke, Steve and Matt and I. Thanks to the misses for telling me to go as I was going to stay home to help her out but she insisted I go. I should be home by about 3 at the latest.

Yesterday we were at the dermatologist around 11 am getting a couple thousand dollars worth of free medical care. Then it was a quick bite to eat before heading home. The roads are fine or at least they were yesterday. Lori worked the entire day on the phone and the computer. So much for her day off. We were both lamenting how many stupid people we have to deal with on a daily basis. It’s really unbelievable.

The mountain opens on Friday so I’ll need to get the kids ski passes that morning unless Lori can run over today. We’re hoping her head gets a little better as time goes by as sometimes it takes two weeks for the steroids to work. I know one thing, they’re working on the cranky side of things. In fairness, the doctor did warn us she was going to be really pissed off and cranky for a few weeks. Truthfully though, she’s not bad at all. But then again, sometimes I play it up just a bit for fun. I gotta have a little fun with it, right?

Lori is going to cook a turkey today while I’m gone, something I know she’s not thrilled with, as she doesn’t even like turkey! Lots still going on at my work, everyday the pressure builds. That’s about it, time to get ready to go, GB.

It’s 6 am and we only have an inch or so of snow outside right now. Not sure how much the mountain received but as Lori says, it looks like the storm missed us! This is not good news, it’s November 22nd and we need snow. I think there’s another storm heading our way at then end of the week.

Lori is taking today and tomorrow off and won’t go back to work until next Monday. I was up and out the door by 7:15 am yesterday dropping her at work and then off to the grocery store. I was home by 9 and then on the phone until 11:45. Then it was off to the storage units in Eagle along with Costco. Jag went with me and before we knew it, it was 3 in the afternoon. 30 minutes later I went to pick up Lori.

Dixie is in Los Angeles with Kristin for Thanksgiving. Hope she doesn’t overdo it! She’s supposed to arrive here mid December but now Lori says we just need to suck it up and go to Hawaii. She’s probably right as we need a vacation, someplace warm, and my big 6 0 bday is coming up. Hard to believe I’ll be that old! It must be some kind of mistake. We’re checking details now such as flights and trying to find a free place, like a house or condo, to stay. The kids are all about Hawaii, who wouldn’t be? We’ll keep you posted on the dates.

It feels like a weekend even though it’s Tuesday. The referees stole another game from one team and gave it to another last night. They can’t even get the calls right when they go look at them on video replay. No wonder the NFL ratings are sinking fast. They’ve wrecked the game. I still watch the Broncos but am not the rabid fan I used to be. I think it’s supposed to snow this Sunday for the game. I do love football in the snow! That’s it, start thawing your turkey. Looks like we’re going to go to Denver to see everyone. No worry if my brother doesn’t have enough turkey as Lori doesn’t like it anyhow and I can always grab a burger. We’re also cooking one tomorrow so we have leftovers which are always the best part of the meal anyhow. We just figured we should go see everybody. GB

Here we go, the kids are off school, Lori’s Doc is in Hawaii and all my distributors and stores are super busy. It’s a mad rush until Thursday and then it’s Black Friday and then before you know it, Christmas. That doesn’t mean we don’t have lots to do. Lori and I both have a lot of work to get done and the boys have some homework and studying to do before next Monday. This coming weekend they moved the Bronco game to a night game meaning we won’t get home until around 11 or 12pm. I’m sure Lori probably won’t go now since it’s a late game so I’ll need to find some guys. It’ll be a big game as Kansas City, who we play, lost yesterday and we are both 7 and 3. I love seeing them lose. Now we just need Oakland to lose tonight!

We’re getting snow tomorrow, something like a foot! Not sure when the mountain will open but time to get our ski gear together. With that kind of snow, it could open Wednesday. Grandma Dix is buying the boys ski passes for Christmas, whoo hoo. That was a nice surprise and the boys are thrilled! I’ll need to buy them in the next couple of days with all the snow coming. We also need to get Jag some new ski pants, better do that today and get our stuff from the storage unit and get it over to our ski locker, along with our snow boots. I think we’re going pheasant and quail hunting Wednesday in Kiowa which is an hour or so east of Denver. It’s kind of a tradition the day before Thanksgiving, but we’ll see how much snow we get.

It’s sunny outside right now and not too cool but more snow is coming I think late Monday and Tuesday. Ty had Sonny spend the night and they were up until a little after 3 when I finally told them, lights out. While up, I went downstairs to turn off all the lights (our boys never turn off the lights) and Jag had his computer and DS4 both blarring away on top of his bed, but he was a sleep. I turned his stuff off and went back to bed. You see, a new Pokemon game was released yesterday the boys were anxiously waiting for. Guess we need to get them outside today. Maybe we’ll go cut down our Christmas tree.

My Mom and brother both have their trees up, surprise, surprise. They’re always on top of it. Colorado and Wisconsin both won yesterday and are still ranked in the Top 10 of college football. That’s fun for us, especially in Colorado as we haven’t been ranked this high in years.

Guess we’ll stop talking about Lori’s headache until we fix it. Hopefully today some fresh air will help it calm down. Guess I’ll run. I did watch an hour long special on Trump yesterday that was taped in September. Both he and Hill were asked to do a candid non-rehearsed expose on their entire life but of course, she declined. It was pretty interesting. It’s called Objectified and will air on Fox at 6pm our time tonight. It wasn’t produced by Fox, they’re just airing it, for those of you that don’t trust anything on Fox, ha ha. It goes all through his family starting back with his childhood. Did you know he went to a military academy? He doesn’t drink as his brother died from alcohol, he was on Oprah and Phil Donahue decades ago lamenting the exact problems we have today in government. There’s more and it’s pretty interesting and will give you a new perspective on our 45th President. I encourage those of you that don’t really like him to check it out.
