A Year of Change

Yesterday after Field Day the boys decided they wanted to go into town to meet up with some friends who I think were all girls. Ty went along as the only 6th grader. First they had to come home and take showers to try to get all the silver glitter out of their hair as they were the silver team. This didn’t really work as glitter is still all over them and now their sheets.

They were going to stay in town and Kelly (Ethan’s Mom) and Dad were coming in around 6:30 for the Leukemia Walk through the town. After that they were going to go to a restaurant for dinner before coming home.

Meanwhile in Eagle Vail, a few miles west, Lori and I were headed off to the Harvest Festival which is an annual benefit another school. I’ve worked this event for a number of years pouring wine but this year the distributors salesman poured for me so we decided to just get some tickets and go to support my wines and the school. I picked up 4 tickets and we took Mike and Sue with us. We arrived around 6:30 and instantly knew lots of people. All the top restaurants in town were serving small plates and then there were about 20 tables all serving a bunch of different wines. They had a band and you walked around trying all the wines and food. Lori actually knew more people than I did from work. They had a raffle and I bought 3 tickets as I’m pretty lucky at those type of things. Well wouldn’t you know it, when they started drawing tickets, I won! I won a $50 gift certificate to a mexican restaurant in Beaver Creek. By 8 pm we decided to leave for home as we don’t really drink all that much anymore. We made it home 10 minutes later, as everything up here is so close, and watched a little tv until the boys were dropped off at 9:30.

Today we have soccer at 9 am and then Jag is going to a bar mitzvah at the Grand Hyatt from 3 until 10pm. I think I’m taking the boys paddle boarding after soccer but we’ll see. We thought Ty’s friend was coming up for the weekend but found out that’s next weekend. We’d love to bomb down to Denver today for Lori to get her hair done but didn’t plan it as we thought Ty’s friend was up here. We’ll see, hope all’s well, take care and God Bless.

Yup, thank God it’s Friday. Today the boys have community service in the morning and they are both on the same team. They’re going to the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens where they’ll be gardening until noon. Then the whole school has Field Day where they compete in teams against each other. Lori I think is taking the afternoon off to come and watch Field Day.

I had a headache most of the night as when we sleep with the windows open, the pollen from all the grass on the hills must come through the window and make my allergies (which I never had until I met Lori) act up.

Ty’s friend Scott from Denver is up here in Vail with his family for the weekend so Mr. Ty will be in full on play mode. I gave Mojo a bone yesterday so he drank a lot of water which means he was going to pee a lot which means I woke up to pee in the garage. That’s always a fun way to start off the morning.

Today I have a bunch of computer work to do and am going to try to insulate the windows this weekend. There’s something else going on but I can’t remember what it is right now.

Guess I’ll run, hope all’s well with everyone. It’s still nice up here but sooner than later all of a sudden it’s going to probably get real cold. I think once the snow arrives, it’ll be here for 5 months or so, so we’re getting ready for that. Take care, God Bless.

Yesterday our bed from Denver finally made it up here. It’s just a little bit softer than the one we have now but that makes a big difference. I bombed down and up the hill to the house to clean the master bedroom and was back in the mountains by 11:30 am. Hopefully I won’t be going again until next week. I have a tasting in Denver on Thursday the 1st but will see if I go down. I do need to have my car serviced next Tuesday. I’m also planning, or should I say visualizing, that our house will sell by the end of next week. At this point I’ll try anything!

It’s 5:43 am and Mojo and I are the only ones up. The stars are so bright outside as the sky is so dark. When you get away from city lights, the night sky is really amazing. Wake up early sometime and go outside, especially if you’re away from the city.

The boys are fine and so is Lori. The Pope’s here in the U.S. and is hard to miss as he’s all over tv. Not really a big Pope fan but then again I’m not catholic. This Pope is the 1st Pope that wasn’t born in Europe in over 1000 years. He’s quite political which is good and bad depending on what he says. The White House yesterday compared our Pres to the Pope, wow. If you study history you know the Roman Catholic Church and most Pope’s in history were pretty nefarious characters. Some still question the motives of the Church. Lorenzo, our partner from Italy isn’t a fan at all. Oh well, after all, in the end, the Pope is just a man like the rest of us. However if he gives people hope and strengthens their faith, then I have no problem with him. We all know, one thing everyone needs is hope and faith, and not not the kind Obama professes to spread.

Yesterday was a busy one, once again. I made it back from Denver by 1 in the afternoon and began to work on things around the house. Harry made it up from Denver around 4 on his way back to California from Denver. He stayed and visited until a bit before 7pm. We fed him dinner and he took off trying to get to Green River Utah to spend the night.

Within an hour after he left, all of a sudden the power went out. Lori immediately said “the whole town is out”. I looked out the deck and sure enough, the whole valley and town was pitch black. For a brief moment I thought EMP or electro magnetic pulse. Luckily it all came on in a few minutes as back up generators must have kicked in. Imagine life with no power, not good.

Last night Tommy was kind enough to let the movers into our house so they could pick up our bed which will be delivered today. We just paid it off and it’s much more comfortable than the one up here. Bad news is I have to bomb back down to Denver to clean up the master bedroom so if people do look at the house, that room is not a mess. You know how much dirt and dust gathers under beds. Hopefully I’m back up by 11 am. Not that it really matters as it looks like it’ll be a while before our house sells. Guess we have different taste than most people.

Think I’ll run as I need to get moving. I’m finally getting tired of making the Denver drive, mostly due to construction. Lori and the kids are fine, hope you all are too, God Bless.

Time is flying, 3 months and 2 days until Christmas Eve. You all better start thinking what you want from Santa! Up here our priorities have changed. We need things that are more practical like ski gear and passes, snow boots, and more of the such. I think the kids are in between toys and clothes so not sure what to buy them. I’m sure some video games will somehow make their way to our house.

The fall colors up here will probably peak in a week or so. I’m driving to Denver today to get Jag his bass clarinet for music class and will see my good friend Harry who is in town but leaving this morning for home in Colfax California. That’s close to Grandma Dixie, too bad we don’t have anything to send her way.

It’s 5:51 and everyone is sleeping. I think Jag has a super light day and is actually staying home to work on some projects. Lori has clinic which is always a busy day. I should be back up here by noon and then will insulate some windows with the insulation I bought yesterday at Home Depot. Looks like we avoided a mess in the kitchen as we caught the water early enough to prevent any damage. I let it dry out most of the day and the lights are fine and it appears to be dry in the ceiling. Thank God for that!

We made it to Denver by 8:30 and soon Ty was off to Ben’s, Jag and I to baseball and Lori to our friends spa. Mom loaned Lori her car as she needed one to drive downtown. Jag and I made it to baseball by 9:15 and we warmed Jag up for the game. That kid is throwing twice as hard as he did even 3 months ago! My hand is bruised from a few throws I caught the wrong way. Anyhow the game started and the team was thrilled to have Jag. They put him at 2nd base which I don’t think he’s ever played but he stepped right in and made some plays. He also made it to base once and scored in a 9 to 1 game that was called after the 5th inning. The other team wasn’t happy they called the game but that’s the rules after 5 innings.

Jag’s knee was sore from jumping on the trampoline the night before. Trampolines are just no good whatsoever. We then headed over to my Mom’s after picking up some hamburgers. We ate lunch waiting for Lori to get back and then headed up about an hour later for the hills. We made it home by about 3:30 and started to get ready for the week.

Today I’m going to get some insulation for the garage windows and Jag’s windows in the basement as when the cold comes, we’ll need it. Tomorrow I’m off to Denver again as the music store called and they now have a bass clarinet for us to rent. The Packers beat the Seahawks last night which makes everyone in our family happy.

I just had to jump up as water was pouring out of a light fixture from the kitchen ceiling! Turns out Ty was taking a bath, filled the tub too full and then got in making it overflow! It looked like a movie. Thankfully Lori was standing right there and saw it. We hope it’ll just dry out but we have the lights turned off now, super. So time to run, it never stops, God Bless.

Yesterday we had soccer and then Jag was off with friends for the day. Not to be out done, Ty also took off with his science teacher and his son who is in Ty’s class. They then hooked up with another friend as well. Both boys were here and there on their own. When we picked up Ty and I heard that they went to the park and the store on their own, I said “you can’t do that in Denver”, which is 100% true!

At 7pm we all went over to dinner at some friends house. There were 4 couples and kids and only one couple were people we hadn’t met yet. They have two girls in school with the boys, Grace in 6th and Lexi in 8th. Lexi is on the ski team and just came from dry land training where the boys played the girls in field hockey and she scored 3 goals! Way to go for her. They moved up here about a year ago from Denver too and her dad is a good friend of Brett Farve! They were nice people and he was my age so we had more in common than some of the younger parents.

It’s now 5:59 and I’ve made coffee and fed Mojo. We’ll all be heading down at 7am sharp so Jag can get to baseball and then Lori is going to go to our friends spa for a facial and pedicure. Then she’ll go visit my Mom until we’re done. I’m not sure how many weekends we’ll get down to play ball but we’re making this one as Jag’s an alternate and they need him.

Today we have soccer and then need to get Jag some ski boots. It’s also Octoberfest, again, but this time in downtown Vail. So lots going on. I made it down and up in pretty good time yesterday. We’ll also be coming down tomorrow for baseball. I’m also switching beds between Denver and up here as our mattress here is just too hard. It won’t be easy (stand by to help Tommy!) but I’ll get it done. No need to switch box springs or the frames, just the mattresses. Whoops, I just measured and it won’t fit into my truck, I’ll need to come up with another plan. Guess I’ll need to call my buddy Matt who has a truck without a cab on the back. You lucked out Tommy!

Ty is still off soccer but can start playing next week. Boy kids heal fast! It’s 10 until 7 and everyone is sleeping. I’ll wake them all in 10 minutes. I just folded some laundry and started the dishwasher after cleaning the kitchen and getting some last minute computer work done for my conference call on Monday.

I guess there’s a drought even here down in Denver. I do water the grass whenever I’m down but that’s what the news just said. We have a showing today and you all need to pray that our house sells. The way I look at it is if the Broncos could win that game, our house surely can sell! Come on already.

Never give up, never ever give up, and sometimes you just might prevail. That’s what the Denver Broncos did last night. After being down 14 to 0 they kept plugging along and tied the game 3 times. Then with about 30 seconds to go our defense caused a fumble, recovered it and sent 90,000 screaming fans dressed in red into utter disbelief. What fun, as we hate those guys.

Meanwhile Lori was at a dinner and the boys were doing homework or playing around. I made my two trips up and down the hill yesterday and have one more today. Looks like we’re not coming down Saturday night but rather on Sunday morning as we’ve been invited to a dinner with a few families Saturday.

It’s cool and nice up here but not bad at all. Every morning when I watch the news and all the crap going on in the city, I’m so thankful that we were able to make the move. So time to run, I’ll drop the kids at school, be in Denver by 9:30 and probably head out by 10:30 or 11am. This will put me back up here by 12:30 or so. This  morning I’ll drive down to Big D, then back up here by around noon, then back down right away and then back up, don’t ask. I think I also need to drive down and up in the morning. I’ll be glad when that’s over. Oh wait, then we drive down Saturday and up on Sunday after Jag plays two baseball games. At least I’ll get to see the colors changing every day!

Yesterday I managed to get the kitchen cleaned along with 4 loads of laundry and a bunch of computer work. It’s almost 6 now so time to run. Lori will need to get the boys from school as I probably won’t be back in time. Gotta go, God Bless.
