Yesterday, to get Jag’s car to Denver, we all headed down in two cars. We woke up to snow which was unexpected. I didn’t hear anything about it from any of the talking weather heads on tv, hmm. Anyhow, around 8:30am, off we went. Jag left about 15 minutes before Ty and me. We both made it to Denver around noon. Jag stopped at a couple record stores and met Ty and I at Cherry Creek Mall. The roads were not very packed, but the mall was full.
I returned the stuff I needed to, and both boys bought a few things for their ladies. We left around 2 or a little after and headed to Tommy’s to drop Jag’s car, so it’s in Denver when he and Ava fly back from Portland on January 8th. After a brief visit, we hit Chick Filet and headed up the hill. All was good until a little before the tunnel. Then bam, it hit, big time snow. I was going to stop in Frisco, but I knew Vail Pass would soon be closed. Sure enough, right after we made it over the top, they closed it. Finally, around 6, we made it home.
Ty works at 8 this morning and I think Jag and I are running over to Aspen to exchange the few things we still have left over from Christmas that need to go back or be exchanged. We should be back mid-afternoon. The we’ll probably hit the gym before picking up Ty.
No new snow here but it’s winter with cold temps outside. It doesn’t bother us, just cold. That’s it for December 27th. Have a great day and God Bless.
We had a good day. We all hung out in the morning doing the Christmas thing and then in the afternoon, Ty went to the mountain and the rest of us to the gym. Jag and I are thinking of maybe driving his car down to Denver today and parking it at Tommy’s as he flies out of Eagle on Saturday. Then when he and Ava return on January 8th, they can Uber to Tommy’s to get his car. This solves the problem of him having to get up at 4am Saturday and also having to fight the crowds and security on December 30th. We’ll see how the roads look in an hour or so.
Lori works today and tomorrow and then is taking Thursday and Friday off. James, Addy, Marty and Mel are coming over for my birthday, which is Friday. Time to get back on the program before another party, ha.
Christmas came fast and now it’s on to 2024. Normally I’d begin putting the Christmas stuff away, but I think most of it will be up for a while. The tree for sure.

What a glorious day, the mountains are painted white and the sky bright blue, with the sun kissing the tops of the peaks with its warm shining light. I was woken up around 5:30 by a noise outside that sounded like someone pounding on the ground. As I pulled back the blinds, right there, less than 5 feet from me, was a 1200-pound elk staring back at me. Trying not to move a muscle, as so not to scare her, we stared at each other for a good minute. As my eyes wandered, I took in the surrounding view which included around a dozen or more, bedded down in the backyard. After a few minutes, we both went back to our morning and our chores at hand. Me back to bed, and her, back to eating my grass. Once I came back out and turned on the lights, they all stood up and took off into the sage. What’s left is their beds and evidence of all of them eating and sleeping during the night. A few of Lori’s plants were pulled out of the planters and there are big round circles where they slept or bed down during the night. Glad we could provide a Christmas meal for them.
Yesterday after the gym, we took the neighbor kids presents down to them next door and then delivered a bottle of wine to about half a dozen neighbors. Jag went to the gym around 2 and then picked Ty up and drove him home after work. Once home, Jag began the final stages of preparing the two ducks he’d been doing stuff to for the past two days, for Christmas Eve dinner.
I was telling Tommy, he cooks the same way he studies, with meticulous attention to detail. I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out, as he’d never made duck before. Stupid me for even thinking there was a chance it wouldn’t be great. Needless to say, it was fantastic! Around 5, Ty said Chandler was coming over! She’s Ty’s boss who we love, and her boyfriend is a Chef at Sweet Basil, the top restaurant in Vail, so she was all alone. We’ve been bugging her to come for weeks and were glad she did. Lori made wild rice, from the Sious Indian Reservation in South Dakota with sausage and a mirepoix mix which is unbelievable. Jag also made some type of pancake from scratch that you put the duck in and roll it up and eat it. The sauce was just like out of a Chinese restaurant. Throw in some vegetables and salad and it was an incredible meal. I stuck mostly to the duck and rice.
Finally, around 9:30, we were done. Just about the same time the Bronco’s lost with 2 seconds to go and blew the season. There’s always next year.
It’s 8am now and the boys are still sleeping. Happy Birthday to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! The meaning of the day often gets lost in all the parties and presents. My buddy Toby, who never misses a Sunday, always prays for us when at church and did so again at Midnight Mass last night down at the Basilica in Denver. He’s a good Catholic boy, ha.

It’s here! The white stuff, in all its glory. Only about 2 or 3 inches, but enough for a white Christmas. I shoveled some last night, but it didn’t do much. I’ll have to be quick this morning so I can get can out there before we go.
Yesterday Ty worked from 7 until 7. Jag went to the gym around 6pm so Ty walked over and caught a ride home with him. Lori and I were around the house most of the day. We were really tired. I slept from probably 2 until 4 while Lori and Hannah made cookies. We feel much better today.
Jag has been basting his two ducks on and off for 24 hours now. Can’t wait to have them for dinner. Not sure what time Ty gets off today. I think Chandler is going to try to let everyone go early, but Ty said he’d stay with her, we’ll see.

Another night, another party. Last night was really fun, although we’re wiped out. We made it down to Tommy’s around 11 for an early Christmas celebration. He ordered up some lunch and we all hung out for a couple hours. The boys opened their presents and so did Lori as hers was really obvious as she told Tom what she wanted. It was a large, and I mean large, concrete planter. Tom and I saved ours for Christmas.
We made it home around 4 and had to get ready for our dinner party at 6. That means we had to leave at 5:30. We were pretty much on time and there were 12 of us in all. Marci cooked a prime rib roast and had Alaskan King crab to go with it. Dinner was great and we had a fun time. After dinner we played this crazy word game that was hilarious. Someone would pick a category and then everyone would write down one word that came to mind. You’d then put all the pieces of paper, with the one word, in a bowl, and whoever went first, would pick one, read it, and then try to guess who wrote it. If someone guessed correctly, the person who wrote it was out. If they guessed wrong, the person they guessed was then the one to guess. On and on this went until only one person was left. We played three rounds and the categories were drugs, sex apparatus’s (Gerry of course picked that, ha) and cars. It was super fun and funny. With 12 of us, it worked out great. Great people and fun times.
We made it home by 11 and tried to get to sleep by 11:30 but it was probably midnight. We’re up at 5:30am and leave at 6:30 to take Ty to work. Today I’m eating nothing and getting some sleep. We’ll wrap some last minute presents and get ready for tomorrow.
Jagger is cooking Peking Duck and has this duck sitting on a rack in the fridge resting or something. It looks like the duck out of the movie The Christmas Story, ha. We also have some wagyu beef steaks I ordered up for the boys as they wanted some for Christmas. Jag is a great cook but a horrible cleaner.
Ava finally made it to Portland after numerous delays. Her bag was rerouted so no telling when she got it. Snow is coming in tonight, but I think we’re going to miss the main blast. Cross your fingers.

What a busy day. Thank God Jagger and Ava were here to help, or we probably wouldn’t have been ready. I was off at 8:30am and had stops in Vail, Silverthorne and Frisco before heading home. By 4:45 we were still getting ready. Mark showed up and transformed himself into Santa and off we went down the street to see the four neighbor kids. By the time we made it back, a few people were here. 20 minutes later, we had a house full.
What a fun time. Everyone had a blast, and the food was great, and the evening was filled with lots of stories and laughs all night long. Around 9:30 everyone was gone and then we had Ava’s Christmas as she has a 7:30 am flight out of Eagle to Portland today. Around 8, the four of us are off to Denver to have an early Christmas with Tommy. Snow is coming in tomorrow and Ty is off today but works tomorrow so we’re headed down today. Tom has plans Christmas Eve which is good.
I don’t think we’ll get a ton of snow up here, but it could add up to six inches which will be the most so far this year. We’re all loving the mild winter. Time to make sure the kids are moving. It’s also trash day, so I need to get all the bags out to the curb.

Seems like we’ve been getting ready for weeks. Should be a fun party tonight. Yesterday was really busy all the way around. Lots going on with work and at home. Jag finished up last night probably around 10 as he and Ava strolled in a little after midnight. I think Ty made it home around 10. Lori and I are both fighting off colds, ugh.
Tonight at 5, after a full day of preparation, Mark is coming over dressed up as Santa and we’re taking him to the neighbors to see the 4 kids. Then he’ll take off his outfit and join the party. Yesterday we were invited to the Aspen Snow Ball in February. This is THE Black Tie event of the year in Aspen. It runs four days and culminates with the big party February 3rd. Our friends invited us as they are Patrons (meaning they bought a $50,000 table) and Lori loves to play dress up, so I guess we’re going. It’s a big deal and raises money for pediatric cancer. Last year they had Diana Ross and some other performers. I know this year, HRH (Her Royal Highness) Princess Sophie of Bavaria will be there, ha, never heard of her. Sounds like something out of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! We really don’t care about who is there, but it’ll be a fancy fun event with the who’s who in the social World. No matter who is there, Lori will still be the prettiest girl!
Back to today. I have to run to Silverthorne to the Mexican restaurant/store for some stuff and run a bunch of errands locally. I did a lot yesterday and so did Lori after she made it home from work. We have people coming from Denver for the party too.
I’m super excited about 2024, even though the economy could be worse than this year, probably will be. I’m launching our new “club” that we’ve been working on for six months. Can’t wait, it’s like I’ve been reenergized. It’s a big step as I’m taking a step back from the wine business but this has way more of an upside.

Tom and I had a nice lunch yesterday. Glad I could make the time to go down and hang out. Ty was sick, so he didn’t make it. No point in getting either Tommy or I sick right before Christmas. We went for Mexican food after he opened his presents. He told me he had more texts yesterday for his birthday than any other time in his life. Hope he had a good night.
After lunch I had a quick haircut which was originally scheduled for Ty and then headed home. I dropped Robi’s presents off at Fed Ex and then went home before heading back out to Costco. Today I’m going to try to get a short stand-alone heater for outside from Home Depot and then get some stuff done around here before the cleaners come at 1. Lori is working in Vail but she’s cleaning the pantry right now. We have lots to do before tomorrow night’s party.
Jag has a final at 7:30 this morning and another at 7:30 tonight, and then is done. I told him he and Ava shouldn’t drive up at 10 at night and just come up in the morning. We’re going to Tom’s Saturday morning as it’s supposed to snow Saturday night and Sunday. Unfortunately, Ty works Saturday so he won’t be able to come with us. I asked Tommy what he’s doing Christmas Eve and he has John and his girlfriend and her kid coming over. Glad he’ll have company, otherwise we’d probably brave the roads so he wouldn’t be alone.

Today is Tom’s birthday, Happy Birthday brother. Ty and I are headed down to have lunch with him. We should be back around 3. We’re also all going down on the 23rd to celebrate an early Christmas as we’re supposed to get snow that night and on the 24th.
Yesterday, Lori and I were down also. We managed to get a lot of things done. We made it home around 3 also.
Lori is in full on prep mode for our party this Thursday. We then have a party to go to Friday and Tom’s on Saturday. Jag and Ava will come up late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. Going to be a busy week.

We’re off to Denver this morning around 7 am to run a few errands. Should be home by 2 if we’re lucky. Jagger had a great birthday yesterday. Ava made him a cake and cupcakes. We bought the two of them dinner last night.
We had a fun day and Marty and Melanie came by after going to Costco. They hung out for a few hours and Marty helped us wash our windows as he used to do that in college.
Earlier in the day we went back into the Village and took some wine and scotch to the store we were at yesterday. We did a trade out for store credit for some clothes. They have really cool stuff.
