Cold outside

What a cold start to the year. Annette is lucky she hasn’t come to visit as she does not like the cold weather! Think I’ll drive Lori today as the roads are a bit dicey. Our appraisal went well. Turns out we knew a lot of people in common. Not that that will affect anything, but it can’t hurt.

Everything looks cold and closed in Denver up to Ft. Collins. Hope pipes don’t burst from the temperatures. Think I’ll hit the gym after I drop Lori. I’d like to start cleaning the garage today. We’ll see how the day goes.

Time to get moving. Biden is still pushing for war and more covid restrictions. Even though cases and positive test rates are dropping fast, they keep pushing. Then the White House press secretary said the crime wave is all fake. Instantly the head of the Fraternal Order of Police pushed back. Point here is, the people in power lie, constantly. They think nothing of it and justify it as part of the greater good for you! No longer can we believe our own government. If you think about it, we haven’t been able to trust them for years now. So sad. Pray for change.

God Bless

2/1/22

Here we go, February is here. Soon it’ll be March and hopefully warmer temperatures.

I was in Denver and back by noon. I stopped to see Tom for a few minutes before heading to the car dealer. We had our property taxes arrive in the mail yesterday. Get ready for this, they tripled! Now I understand that property values have gone up, but ours didn’t double, much less triple? WTF? Not much you can do about it. I expected it to double but this is ridiculous. I shouldn’t be surprised as it’s the new normal. These days, with everything, you get less, and it costs more. What I mean here is it’s not like they’ve fixed all the streets or upgraded schools. Oh wait, wasn’t the trillion-dollar infrastructure package the Dems passed supposed to fix the roads? Hmm. What a shit show. We have to vote these clowns out of office in November.

Marty and Melanie want us to go to Hawaii in April and we’d love to go but we’re not getting boosters to go. Just not worth it.

We have our appraisal today at 1. Then we should be just about done with our refinance. It’s never done until it’s done though. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if it somehow falls apart. Cross your fingers.

We had a humidifier installed yesterday as it’s only 14% humidity in the house which is really low. As soon as Jeff, the electrician, comes to hook it up, we’ll be good to go. Should help a bunch.

Time to get moving. Hope all’s well. Looks like they’re lifting the mask mandate in Denver this week. But don’t worry, the Dems and Biden will be pushing things to control us long after the virus is gone. They’re already doing it. Some places, like Canada for one, are pushing more restrictions while the numbers of cases are dropping dramitacally. They’re desperate to hold on to control and power. Thankfully people all over the World are not putting up with it. The people in power won’t give up easy though, get ready for that! Enough said, God Bless.

Happy Birthday Mom!

I think today Mom is 89. She was born in Shawano Wisconsin in 1933. Hard to believe it’ll be 5 years in six months since she’s been gone. I miss and think about her every single day! Hope all’s good in heaven.

Yesterday we had two great football games. Both ended the way I wanted them to so that made them that much better. This morning I need to run down to Denver to give back the Tahoe I’ve been driving since December 5th for my new Suburban. They had to build it so that’s why they sold us the Tahoe but agreed to give us what we paid for it when the burb came in. We just need to extra room the suburban provides.

Yesterday I made some beef and pork ribs on the smoker and after eating those with the pheasant and appitizers, we were all too full for fajitas. We ended up just having cheesecake while watching the second game.

This week there’s some snow headed to Denver. I think (hope) it misses us. Right now, we could get a dusting to a couple inches while Denver is good for 3 to 6 with cold temps.

We were hoping Jag would have come up for the weekend, but he has some midterms this week, so he stayed to study. I should be home by noon, and I think Lori is working in Vail today.

Super Bowl in two weeks. I probably wouldn’t have been excited if it was the Chiefs and 49r’s but now the Rams and Bengals will be fun! Happy for Von Miller too. Make it a great week, God Bless.

FOOTBALL

Some say today is the best football weekend of the year as they’re usually pretty good games while sometimes the Super Bowl can be a letdown. Last weekend was great, it’ll be hard to top that. Marty, Melanie, James and maybe another friend or two are coming over. On the menu are bbq beef back ribs along with one slab of baby backs, pheasant nuggets, jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese and topped off with bacon, filet mignon fajitas, some vegetables and Lori’s famous Basque Cheesecake. The games start at 1 and should wrap by about 7:30.

Yesterday Lori went on a long hike while I went to the grocery store and Ace Hardware. Ty was on the mountain all day and spent the night at Wills. He’ll be home around 9 this morning. We also hit Costco and stopped and visited Dixie. She looked well.

I hope to get to the gym this morning after I prep the ribs. Lori did a lot of house cleaning yesterday. Her deer were outside waiting for some carrots in the afternoon. Time to get moving. I know Tommy is excited too. Hope he has some good food lined up!

Be well, stay safe and God Bless.

A Gentlemans Hunt

It was a long day but super fun. I left at 5:20am and picked up James at 6. It was -8 at his house and when we picked up Marty at 7 in Frisco, it was -13! By 9 we were pulling into The Bluffs an hour east of Denver. We weren’t sure what to expect when we showed up. We walked in and sort of stood out as most people must have known each other.

After filling out the waivers, we all jumped into our vehicles and headed out to the bluffs. It was like a 5 truck convoy with us, Jim and his dad Peter and then John in his car along with two trucks carrying the dogs. Upon arrival in a snowy field we walked in a bit to some stands in the middle of this field under a 100 foot tall bluff, hence the name. The stands were wooden shotgun stands you could lean your gun against. After some brief instructions we were asked if we were ready to go which we all said yes, with Marty, James and I not sure what to expect. No sooner than had we said yes and the fun began. Birds began flying off the bluff overhead left and right and everyone began shooting. They told us unlike hunting with dogs, shoot at any bird and don’t worry about if another hunter is shooting at it. So, that’s what I did. Turns out, yours truly was again the best shot, ha. I’ve always been lucky as I’m a steady shot with rifles and shotguns. Anyhow I must have shot 30 or so shells and bagged probably 20 birds alone. At the end I slowed down and let the other guys shoot some. Peter, Jims dad, had this $200K shotgun which opened from the side and is one of 50 in the World that was made before the war. That’s World War II.

After the bluffs shoot we walked back to the vehicles and then reloaded with shells and headed out with the dogs to find any birds we missed. When shooting at the bluff, birds were dropping left and right, some almost landing on top of you! It was fast and exciting. We walked a few miles up and down the riverbed flushing another 15 or 20 birds before heading back to the lodge.

At the lodge they had lunch prepared for us and we toured the trophy room where a lot of Peter’s animals from Africa were including an 18 1/2 crocodile! We hung out for a bit and smoked a cigar before heading home around 1:30. We tried to tip the guides but Peter said no, all was covered. We all had an epic day as this was a true British bird hunt. You just don’t see this type of hunt in America. They invited us back and we’re going to try to squeeze in another day before James heads out for the South American tour at the end of April. Fun time but we were all tired when we made it home around 6.

Today Lori is going on a hike with Francesca, Ty is boarding and I’m doing some stuff around the house and maybe hitting the range. Tomorrow the guys are coming over for the football games, so I probably need to run to the store. I need to find some buttermilk to soak the pheasants in too before I cook them up.

Have a great weekend. Too bad you’re not closer as pheasant is good eating! God Bless.

4am

Up and getting ready to go hunting. I was getting up at 4:40 but Harley woke us at 3:30 throwing up, ugh. Couldn’t go back to sleep.

I did get Ty’s truck back yesterday. Looks brand new. Jag is doing well. He has midterms next week already as CU is on some weird schedule. Lori worked at the office and I worked from home. Two workdays left in the month.

I’m picking up James around 6 and then we’ll get Marty around 6:45 in Silverthorne. My friend and his dad are taking us to The Bluffs. This is a super exclusive bird hunting club in Eastern Colorado that’s like $35K a year to belong to and there are only a handful of members. Jim and his dad Peter are from England and this place does hunts like they do in the UK. We’ll start with a driven hunt where we are at the bottom of a bluff and the birds will be driven off the bluff or cliff and be flying overhead at us. Then we’ll be out with dogs which is how we normally hunt here in America. Should be fun.

I’m getting a little tired of all the lawlessness. Three more police officers were shot in Houston yesterday. Why the war on cops? It seems a little too organized as it’s almost every day we read about another shooting. It’s as though you can’t go anywhere these days unarmed. Be safe out there.

Time to get going. Need to hit the shower and be on the road by 5:30. Should be home by 3 or 4. Last weekend of January and Mom’s birthday is Monday! God Bless.

All good

Big weekend coming up. We have football with all the guys coming over Sunday and Lori cooking up a feast, Saturday I’m going to go take Jag to Costco and lunch and I think Ty is snowboarding on the mountain. Lori is going on a hike with Francesca, James’s wife. It’s her birthday today!

Snow today in Denver but I think it’ll miss us. Then tomorrow bird hunting. On top of it all, I still need about $400K in orders by end of day Monday.

Broncos are hiring the offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers as our new head coach. Should be a good hire. Hard to tell these days as you just never know. At least he’s an offensive guy. Interested to see who we get as our defensive coach. Maybe Aaron Rodgers will follow him as we need a new quarterback more than anything.

Our poor President is off his rocker. Nothing new to see there. Old and delusional as always. Still working on our re-fi. Think we have our appraisal next week. Need to get this done. Ty has school around 10 today so I might get to the gym before he goes.

Make it a great day and God Bless.

Dermatologist

Off for a quick turnaround to see Libby our dermatologist in Denver. Lori is a few hours behind me getting her hair done. I hope to be back by noon. She’ll probably be home around 5.

Ty is working out twice a day. Once at school and once after school. He’s on the program too. I went shooting yesterday for an hour. I then took Steve to lunch and we ran into James so we all had lunch together.

Lori worked late as usual. Ty made it home around 8 and the Nuggets won! Our herd of deer are hanging out every afternoon between our neighbors house and ours. We had a little snow yesterday but not too much. Maybe another inch tomorrow. Denver is supposed to be cold Thursday so we’ve moved our hunting trip to Friday.

Time to get going. 5:57 am and I should be on the road in 30 minutes. God Bless.

A little snow

Not much up here, looks like a solid inch. Denver looks like it was hit pretty good. Ty came home last night from his second workout with weights not feeling well. He might stay home today. Looks like a cold with a runny and stuffed up nose.

Lori is working in Vail today and I’m here most of the day but am at the range at noon. I’m going to try to do some cleaning around here too. Wish it’d warm up a bit so I could get on the garage.

Jag is a week or so away from finishing his workout program. He’s all in and getting stronger. He sent a couple more pictures from yesterday and looks good. Ty is inspired and working out a couple times a day. Eating a ton of food is half of it.

In closing, one more great Presidential moment from Joe. Remember when he came into office, and he said if there’s anyone who disrespects anyone, he’d fire them on the spot? Well yesterday he was caught on calling a reporter a “stupid son of a bitch”. Nice. Enough said.

God Bless.

Almost February

One week to go. A week from today is the 31st which is Mom’s birthday. Tomorrow more snow, mostly in Denver, and Thursday we’re going bird hunting. I need to run down to the bank this morning to put in a check that should be at the post office. Dixie came up for a bit yesterday and then we hung out watching football and basketball until we went to sleep.

Sleepy Joe is probably going to get us into a war. At this point he’ll do anything to try to raise his poll numbers. Hope not. It won’t help.

The boys are fine. Another ten days or so until we get Ty’s truck back. Sure getting old driving him around. Time to move, be well, stay safe and God Bless.
