Getting closer

Ok, I’m back to Denver this morning, Lori is off to work and the boys will stay here. Yesterday we moved out all the furniture and all that remains are some lamps, clothes, dishes and of course then the dreaded garage. James says we’re out of space at the storage unit but I’m hoping we can fit some last minute stuff in. One thing is for sure, there’s no room up here for anymore stuff at all!

So once we get the house cleaned out then we’ll need to do it again, albeit on a smaller scale, up here. It seems as though we just moved half the stuff or junk around although the amount of stuff we actually threw away would fill a dump truck or two.

The weather on Thursday is supposed to be really bad. Not a ton of snow but real cold. Hope we make it down ok on Thursday. Heck, we have to, not only for Thanksgiving but also to clean out the last little bit of “stuff” as Friday at 5pm is our deadline.

Guess I’ll run as it’s 5:20. Hope you all are well, have a good day and of course, God Bless.

Still here

Yes it’s true, we ended up spending another night here in our house as no way could we get everything cleaned out yesterday. We’re getting closer but have a way to go. I think if we’re lucky we’ll get out of here late this afternoon. Time to run as lots to do, hope all’s well, GB, and Go Broncos!

The last day

I think this is the last day we’ll all wake up in the house that was our home for over 15 years. It’s a big deal when you think of it that way. Even though we’ve been moving stuff out for a few months, it’s hard to believe your life and all you’ve accumulated can be reduced to a few months of boxing and packing. Then you realize life isn’t about things or stuff at all. Going forward we’ll sure think twice about what we buy. Too bad it takes so long to realize the important things in life are family, friends and memories or experiences. Oh well, at least we know now. The most important things are those that don’t mean much to anyone but you. An old picture or maybe a rusty pocket knife from when you were a kid, or how about a piece of paper with a letter to Santa. That’s more valuable today than the most expensive painting, fanciest dress or piece of jewelry you have unless it was handed down and has some family history attached to it. So that’s what we’re saving, all the other stuff is going away, At first it was hard but now it feels good.

We look at this as a big purge, not just of things but of useless weight bogging us down. It’s a new day and a fresh start which will really sink in when we hand over the keys to the nice young family later this week. Hopefully they’ll have as many good memories and times with their three boys growing up here as we did. We’re leaving them a few nice things like the giant framed poster in the kitchen and my desk in the basement as they don’t have a lot of furniture. I’m sure they’ll do well and have a good time here on our Leave It To Beaver street!

Today we’ll hopefully get the rest of our things packed so tomorrow the big pieces of furniture can go to storage and then the cleaners come on Tuesday. Here again, if it wasn’t an antique, it’s almost all gone, excluding practical things we’d have to replace like the boys dressers or beds. We’re pretty close but still have work to do so time to run, hope all’s well and God Bless.

Cleaning and more cleaning

Well I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. Jag and I made it down by 8:15 yesterday morning to the house. I dropped him off, rushed to wash the truck and then dropped it off for new tires. One vehicle down, one to go. Next up the cleaning began.

A bit after noon it became clear Lori and Ty wouldn’t be able to make it down as the highway was closed literally from Denver almost all the way to Vail. So Jag and I were bachelors and kept at it. Ty’s room is 100% empty. That doesn’t sound like much but slowly we’re making progress. I sold my garage refrigerator to my neighbor who came over and then cleaned a bit more out of the garage as well. This morning Jag and I are getting haircuts at 10:30 and other than that, we’ll be cleaning away. Our biggest problem is that our storage unit is almost full! Not sure what we’ll do when we run out of room.

Needless to say the World is a mess these days. It’s mind boggling why our govt and Pres won’t acknowledge that we’re at war. Hell, even the Pope says we’re at war with radical Islam but all the Dem’s, current and running for Pres (Hillary the fool), can’t bring themselves to say it. Things are scary though with everyone on edge. My neighbors son who must be in his early to mid 20’s and his wife, both just got their concealed weapons permit. Steve told me none of them leave the house anymore without a gun. Now you have to know these people as they’re pretty quiet and reserved and are frankly the last people, especially his wife Dee, that you’d think would say this. For those of you that live here in town, I’m talking about Steve and Dee next door. Steve’s dad was a Supreme Court judge and worked with my dad years ago.

Anyhow life goes on, remember, hope for the best and prepare for the worst. It’s just sad the kind of World our kids are growing up in and even worse, what it will be like in 20 years or so.

Guess I’ll run so I can get some more work done in the basement before we leave for our haircuts. Mojo slept on the mattress next to me all night and yes, woke me at 4:43. Luckily I convinced him to go back to sleep until 6:30. He’s outside now playing in the snow. Wish us luck, God Bless

Up late, up early

We made it home from basketball by a bit before 8 pm. After dinner and heading to bed, I came down to find Jag with his computer and notebook open on his chest around midnight. He was sound asleep. It’s now 5:39 am and I’ve been up about 30 minutes. Jag and I will leave for Denver around 6:30 and Lori and Ty will follow around noon. We have a ton to do and hopefully can finish up by Sunday. That’s it, time to run, God Bless.

Vail Pass Closed

Yesterday I made it down to Denver ok but coming back up the highway was closed 1/2 mile from the summit of Vail Pass. I sat there for probably 30 minutes before they opened it but it made me late to pick up the kids. Lori didn’t have a car and the boys didn’t have a key so there they sat.

We made it home about 4:30 and Lori made it home around 6:30 when she was dropped off. She did have an MRI yesterday (lucky we don’t pay for those anymore) and she doesn’t have any bleeding or leakage in her brain, could have fooled me! She does have a concussion though and should probably be laying around watching tv but in our World, that’s not possible.

Today both boys have basketball games in Eagle at 4:15. That means they’ll be over after 7 and we’ll be home around 7:30 or later. Tomorrow morning Jag and I will head down to start working on the house in the morning and Lori and Ty will leave around noon.

That’s it for the day, time to run. We hope to get new tires on both cars this weekend but we’ll see as after checking the cost, they’re not cheap. Hope all’s well, God Bless.

I-70 Closed

I was off to Denver early this morning but I just heard on the news that I-70 (the highway) is closed at Georgetown as a semi truck blew over in the wind and has closed the highway. Not sure now if I’ll make it down or not today, I’ll have to check in a few hours.

Yesterday I had a nordic parent meeting and had to have my ski boots fitted and pick up the boys ski passes, plus did a ton of work. I ended up getting a deal on the ski passes as the kids get a big discount for being Eagle County students. Lucky I found that out!

Lori still has a headache and I’m sure she bruised her brain and it’s probably a little swollen. As long as it’s not bleeding, we should be ok. Time to run, I’m mostly off politics today as it’s just such a joke. This administration is like purposely trying to ruin our Country. I really can’t believe the things they’re doing and that they’re getting away with it. Thankfully now they’ve gone so far, even democrats (politicians and people) are questioning and disagreeing, finally, thank God!

God Bless, hope it’s not too late!

Still snowing

Yesterday after dropping the kids at school and Lori at work, I was in a small fender bender. A young girl and I both slid into each other going about 3 miles an hour. That’s how slick it is here. It’s still snowing but not too heavy. I guess Denver, or at least some parts, were hit pretty hard. Hopefully not our house.

Jag had nordic in the blowing snow as nordic is, well, skiing. I managed to clean up the kitchen between working but that was all for the day. Today I’ll try to get to our room.

So yesterday over half the Governors in the Country said they won’t take any Syrian refugees until they can figure out a way to vet them to make sure they’re not terrorists but our lap dog of a Gov said bring them to Colorado! The only good news about this is he won’t get reelected. Oh and to put it into perspective, so far, in the past few months, the U.S. has taken in 2194 Muslims and 53 Christians, nice. And now Obummer wants to bring in 10,000 and then next year, 200,000!

Guess I’ll run, Lori still has a headache if you’re wondering but x-rays of her neck were fine. She might need an MRI today, not sure why she just didn’t get one yesterday. They did say she has a concussion. Another day, here we go. Need to get snow tires on Lori’s car and the dreaded ski passes which I’ve been putting off thinking they’d go on sale but no such luck.

God Bless.

Snow, a really bad game and a concussion?

Well it’s snowing here already and supposed to continue for a couple days with totals way above a foot. This is the storm that can also bring a foot to Denver so hold on.

Yesterday after cleaning the house some more in the morning we went to the worst football game I’ve ever been to. I guess our quarterback was hurt and shouldn’t have been playing but if this is true, why then was he playing? Anyhow we left in the 3rd quarter and made it home by 7 pm. Ty and his friend Warner had a good time and fell asleep on the way up into the mountains. Once home I needed to unload the truck that Lori drove up with Jagger.

Now onto the concussion. Lori, Jag, her friend and kids went on a hike to Red Rocks and Lori somehow slipped on ice and hit her head and almost was knocked out! She should have gone to ER in Denver but of course didn’t. So when I made it home I made her call one of the doctors she works with who told us what to look for. This morning I’ll drive her to work and then she’ll get checked out. I guess it was a pretty bad fall where she had to sit down again after getting up. We made it through the night and I’m sure she’ll have an MRI this morning when she gets to work. We’ll keep you posted.

The house if full of boxes that were too fragile to go to storage (china, etc.) and that’s it. We can’t hold anything more here at the town home. I’ll need to clean things up and organize everything today, garage and all.

Hope no one was offended by my rant yesterday but that’s the new normal people, get used to it. Politicians are out of control, on both sides, and in all countries. The people are getting tired and as Bob Dylan sang, “there’s a change a coming that’s blowing in the wind” or something like that.

So God Bless, take care and if you’re in Colorado, get ready for the storm today, at the end of the week and again next Wednesday as well.

A different World

Yesterday no matter where we went, people were talking about the terrorist attacks in Paris and immigration. From the bank to people we overheard at Starbucks, there is a genuine concern going on among people. While several of my friends, and Lori’s, were not surprised (as what would a sane person expect when you let hundreds of thousands of people who follow a ideology that harbors some that hate and want to kill you) into your country, apparently many were shocked. It has now been proven that at least (and I’ll bet all) of the attackers were refugees that were taken in by countries to try to offer them a better life. The sad thing is that the vast majority of Muslims are not bad people but now, whether you admit it to yourself or not, when you see one walking down the street, you’re going to take an extra look and be suspicious. So the divide will deepen, Trump has surged in the polls as people are getting scared. Things are going to get worse before they get better, trust me. Political parties are rising like the Phoenix in European countries in opposition to this forced immigration. A few bad seeds among the immigrants are causing this to escalate. In Germany, German women are being told to wear long dresses and cover their faces when walking near Muslim neighborhoods, In Sweden, gangs of Muslim men are roaming the streets raping Swedish women as in their religion all women are supposed to be submissive to all men and they see it as their right to attack whoever they want. Meanwhile in America, the Black Lives Matter group (don’t get me going) is upset that the terrorist attacks in Paris are taking attention away from them. Boy oh boy, hold onto your hats, we’re in for a bumpy ride.

Here at home, college professors and administrators are being forced to resign over threats from students that they are racist or don’t protect them from someone saying something mean to them. Oh how I feel for these poor poor kids who are having their feelings hurt, wah wah wah. The other day there was another protest against institutions of higher learning, read on for another opinion as this gets even better.

This “Million Student March” which occurred the other day (and it was no where near a million students) was supposedly organized by a social justice warrior named Keely Mullen who will be graduating from Northeastern University in Boston with a staggering $150,000 in debt. What is Ms. Mullen majoring in? This information is carefully concealed in numerous articles touching on the march, which leads me to believe she majored in something über-useless. Doubtless now, she is facing the terrifying thought of working for the next 40 years as a barista at Starbucks, desperately trying to pay off the student loans she stupidly acquired to begin with to study a useless subject. And if she isn’t concerned about this fate, it’s probably only because she foresees a long career as a taxpayer-funded rabble-rousing activist espousing more nonsense that will lure others into debt slavery.

So who’s to blame for this debt Ms. Mullen acquired? Who’s at fault for her choices? Did someone point a gun at her head and force her to major in peace studies or sociology to the tune of $150,000? Of course she wants her debt dismissed. (This is called “freeloading.”)

At what point do young people begin to take personal responsibility for the decisions they make in life? In my opinion, Ms. Mullen is the epitome of the stupidity being bred in colleges today – no concept of supply and demand, a strong sense of entitlement, the notion that socialism will cure all problems and an insistence they should be given for free all the things other people spent decades acquiring through hard work. Goodness, I sure as heck wouldn’t want to hire Ms. Mullen, even if I owned a coffee house and needed a barista.

Who do you suppose did not walk out of their classes on Thursday? I’m willing to bet it was the mature, intelligent, practical students who are meeting the demands of the marketplace by obtaining useful degrees in the STEM subjects. These are kids who know their future depends on their grades and don’t have time for silly nonsense that won’t accomplish anything. Presumably, after graduation they won’t be demanding the government supply them with pointless “social justice warrior” jobs, either
So now in addition to wanting all student debt forgiven (forget who will pay for it) student leaders are calling for an end to the 1st Amendment. Now they demand safe spaces where no one can say anything to anyone. If students need a safe space, they should go home, put on their jammies, grab their teddy bears, suck their thumbs and come back when they grow up and can face the real world.

So to all you college cupcakes, if you really want to make yourself employable, skip the social justice warrior route and instead spend your time cultivating the intangible but valuable skills all employers seek: a strong work ethic, discipline, self-control, a dedication to your commitments, the ability to arrive on time, to perform a task without complaint and (after training) without supervision, the ability to write coherently instead of like a texting monkey, the ability to speak clearly without saying “like” or use an expletive every fourth word, and other indefinable skills that raise you head and shoulders above the crowd.

Forgo that internship with the ACLU or embarrassing public demands for coerced handouts. The world doesn’t need more shakedown artists.

Are you kidding me, what the hell is going on. America, get your shit together before it’s too late. Wake the fuck up. I’ll stop for now but we’re close to that inflection point where we won’t be able to turn back and things will just spiral out of control, and when we all do wake up and realize we need to stop this insanity, it’ll be too late. In closing, and I hate to bring politics into this, but the democratic party is a big part of pushing this agenda. I never thought I’d see the day where one couldn’t speak their mind, even if it was hateful speech, especially on college campuses. For centuries we have sent our children to fight in wars so anyone can say anything they want, free speech right? But now people are being told you can’t say this or say that, or dress like this or dress like that. Watch out as if you advocate this approach, soon you’ll lose much more of your rights than you ever thought possible. Ok, now onto the day, this is what you get when Mojo wakes me at 5:33 am.

We made a ton of progress yesterday, unfortunately the people buying our house are going out of town for Thanksgiving week so our closing is pushed back until the 30th. Anyhow we packed and moved a lot of stuff. Lori had her friend Andrea come over who stayed until 9 or 10 and they packed the entire kitchen. There’s just a few areas to go and tomorrow (Monday) James will get the big pieces of furniture out. A big snow storm is supposed to arrive Tuesday so I won’t come down again until Wednesday and then we’ll all be down next weekend to wrap things up. I’m going to the game today with Ty and one of his friends from Vail and his dad who are driving down. Ty never gets to go much less take a friend so when he asked a few weeks ago, I said yes. I think Lori and Jagger will drive the truck up (as it’s loaded with stuff) before the game is over and I’ll stop by and pick up Mojo this evening. There’s increased security today at all football games so we need to leave early, great. Time to run so I can pack some more books, man we have a lot of books. We did donate some to the boys old school yesterday but still have hundreds. I love books and refuse to throw them out. Someday books will be extinct which will be a real shame. Anyhow it’s a changing World we live in and I’m afraid more changes than not are not for the best. There’s always hope though that mankind or better yet, God will somehow save us from ourselves.

God Bless
