More snow

There’s not much but there’s a few inches and its cold. Jagger is supposed to have baseball practice tonight but I don’t know how as the field will for sure be wet and muddy even if it warms up. We’re on a roller coaster as by tomorrow it’ll be 60 and then more snow Saturday. The weather just can’t seem to make up its mind.

Lori is working hard as am I. I boxed and shipped 20 boxes of wine yesterday and will do the same today. There are tons of crashes on the roads so those of us in Colorado will need to take it easy. I need to get moving and go gas up Lori’s car and make sure its full of window washing fluid so I’d better get moving. She hates to get gas, so much that she’ll just run the car empty, I think she never looks at the gas gauge!

Hope all’s well, gotta run, God Bless.

Wine arrived

Around noon, after much negotiating on the phone, I received a call from the trucker and he said he was just leaving the Denver Airport. Amy from my custom brokers in Chicago who helped me secure delivery yesterday rather than today, told me it’d be late in the afternoon before I should expect delivery. Well, the trucker, who’s been delivering to me for years, and who I always give some wine, jumped right on it and was 3 or 4 hours early.

I was up north but made it home about 5 minutes after he arrived. I told him he made good time and he replied, “and yea, I even stopped for a drink” and he didn’t mean soda pop either. He’s a nice guy with about 3 teeth, a beat up old cowboy hat and tattoo’s up and down his arms. He’s nice and like I said, has been my driver for 4 or 5 years. James, who used to take care of my dad, showed up, as I hired him for a couple hundred bucks to help carry it all in. Dr. Gander, the 70 some year old dentist who you’ve heard me talk about, stopped and helped also. It only took about an hour to move the 250 cases and now the house is packed.

Today I’ll need to repackage about half of those and get them ready for Fed Ex tomorrow. Meanwhile Lori was at work until about 5 or so, the boys well, were boys and that about wraps it up. It’s 4:49 now and I need to get to the gym before all the work I have here so time to run. Hope all’s well, here’s another couple stories to chew on, God Bless.

4 – Fourth Important Lesson. – The obstacle in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a

roadway.  Then he hid himself and watched to see if

anyone would remove the huge rock.  Some of the

King’s’ wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by

and simply walked around it..  Many loudly blamed the

King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did

anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of

vegetables..  Upon approaching the boulder, the

peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the

stone to the side of the road.  After much pushing

and straining, he finally succeeded. After the

peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed

a purse lying in the road where the boulder had

been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note

from the King indicating that the gold was for the

person who removed the boulder from the roadway.  The

peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve

our condition.

5 – Fifth Important Lesson – Giving When it Counts….

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a

hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who

was suffering from a rare & serious disease.  Her only

chance of recovery appeared to be a blood

transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had

miraculously survived the same disease and had

developed the antibodies needed to combat the

illness.  The doctor explained the situation to her

little brother, and asked the little boy if he would

be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a

deep breath and saying, “Yes I’ll do it if it will save

her.”  As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed

next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing

the color returning to her cheek. Then his face

grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a

trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away”.

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the

doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his

sister all of his blood in order to save her.

Think about that, have a great day!

Back at it

Where did the weekend go? Last night the good looking one and I were saying it’s like we didn’t even have a break. It’s 6am now and we’re on the move. Hopefully I’ll get wine today as tomorrow it’ll be much colder and maybe snow. I have lots to do today though so it’s a double edged sword.

Check these 3 little stories out, something different for the day,

1 – First Important Lesson – Cleaning Lady

During my second month of college, our professor

Gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student

And had breezed through the questions until I read

the last one:

“What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?”

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the

cleaning woman several times. She was tall,

dark-haired and in her 50’s, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question

blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if

the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

“Absolutely, ” said the professor.. “In your careers,

you will meet many people.  All are significant.. They

deserve your attention and care, even if all you do

is smile and say “hello..”

I’ve never forgotten that lesson.. I also learned her

name was Dorothy.

2. – Second Important Lesson – Pickup in the Rain

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American

woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway

trying to endure a lashing rain storm. Her car had

broken down and she desperately needed a ride.

Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.

A young white man stopped to help her, generally

unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960’s. The man

took her to safety, helped her get assistance and

put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his

address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a

knock came on the man’s door. To his surprise, a

giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A

special note was attached. It read:

“Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway

the other night. The rain drenched not only my

clothes, but also my spirits.  Then you came along.

Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying

husband’s’ bedside just before he passed away… God

Bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others.”

Sincerely,

Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3 – Third Important Lesson – Always remember those Who serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,

a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and

sat at a table.. A waitress put a glass of water in Front of him.

“How much is an ice cream sundae?” he asked. “Fifty cents,” replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.

“Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?” he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the

waitress was growing impatient..

“Thirty-five cents,” she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins.

“I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on

The table and walked away The boy finished the ice

cream, paid the cashier and left..  When the waitress

came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the

table.  There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,

were two nickels and five pennies..

You see,  he couldn’t  have the sundae, because he had

to have enough left to leave her a tip.

Tomorrow I’ll share a few more. Hopefully these will brighten your day. Remember, Live with no regrets, Treat people the way you want to be treated, Work like you don’t need the money, Love like you’ve never been hurt and Dance like you do when nobody’s watching!

Take care and God Bless.

Lori’s phone is back up

You can now call the misses again as she has a new phone. We never found hers despite searching everywhere, she even went back to the church where I went. Oh well, can’t dwell on the negative.

Yesterday, besides spending 3 hours in a packed Verizon store, I managed to get some groceries, pick up a new vacuum at Sears, clean out the garage and take 4 boys to Buckaroo’s for Ty’s belated birthday celebration. The last chore was the worst. Buckaroo’s is in the mall and it was like a third world country. Not very many white or english speaking people, I felt naked not being armed!

Last night we had some snow, I’m not sure if it was expected or not but I was surprised. Today I’d love to get a start on my basement as I’ve been putting it off for what seems like years!

Peggy was gone most of the day to Cherry Creek and even drove down to Colorado Springs to look at some Old English Sheepdog puppies as that’s what she grew up with and has been thinking of getting one. They had three and she didn’t care for any of them so she came home empty handed. Then she was off with some girlfriends to Toby Keith’s new bar across town. I’m not sure when she made it home. I told her not to stay out too late! She’s headed home to Aspen today but she’s a great house guest as she’s never really here! She’s always going here, there or somewhere.

My wine will arrive via British Airways in Denver this afternoon and hopefully clear customs by 6am tomorrow. If we’re lucky, it’ll get to me tomorrow. Then the work begins, I know I have 50 cases of 12 bottles each that need to go out by Wednesday at the latest. If the wine arrives Tuesday, it’ll be a long, long day! Lori of course will be at the office. Throw in housing taxes due on the 28th, Colorado State 2013 taxes due now, a payment on Federal taxes due on the 20th, and one to the accountant, and there’s a crappy week. It sure gets old, the more you make, the less you have!

Oh well, guess I’ll run, everyone is still sleeping, the boys (Vinny spent the night), Peggy, Lori, Ty and Jagger. It’s just Mojo and me and he’s outside enjoying the dusting of snow. Have a great day and God Bless.

Almost March

Hard to believe it but a week from today will be the first day of March. Summer, then Fall, then Christmas will be here before you know it! Ok, that’s a little bit of a stretch but once again, it seems if you blink, you’ll miss a month or even worse, a whole season.

Lori worked late last night and this will be the norm soon as she’s going to be the new Practice Manager at the office, at least for the next three months, until summer. She and Dr. Rodgers decided that this would be the best thing for everyone as Lori has really straightened things out quickly and has everyone back on track. Plus the entire staff has pretty much elevated her into the position already. In other words, she’s been functioning as the leader at the Practice for the past few weeks anyhow. Of course there’s things she doesn’t know like OSHA and HR (human resources) that she’ll need to get a handle on but she can do it.

She’ll work Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from about 9 to 2 or 3 or so, and then 9 to 5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays which are Dr Rodgers office days. Her schedule will be flexible enough so if she needs to leave early or stay late, depending on what’s going on, she can. So we’ll see how the next three months go (until June) and then she’ll decide if she wants to keep it up or back off. In any case, she’ll need to cut her hours in summer when the boys are out of school. So, congratulate Lori on her promotion. She’ll of course make some more money, not as much as she’s worth, but it all helps.

Last night Peggy insisted on taking us to dinner. We were supposed to go downtown for an 8:15 reservation but by the time Lori arrived home around 6, she and I were too tired. Thankfully Peggy realized this and said we didn’t have to go out. We were relieved and decided to order some food from around here, but then ended up going to the Bonefish Grill that’s pretty new and close to us. Our mutual friend Michael, (who actually introduced us to Peggy) joined us and we also took the boys. We all ended up back at our house around 9 or so. Michael is going to Hawaii for a month, a week from today, as his sister has a house there and she’s off to Burma for a month. Peg is going over for a week to get some sun too. If we were not going to Belize, we could go there for Spring Break as it’s apparently pretty good size and above Diamond Head. He just bought a used (but it looks like new) Porsche he wants to leave with us for the month. Not sure of we have room in the garage but I said I’d check this morning. Of course he said to drive it all we want. Maybe we can fit it in one side of the garage.

Today Ty has D.I. from 2 until 4 and then a sleep over here with Vinny as he never had his birthday party. I’m sure cake and ice cream will somehow be involved. Lori lost her cell phone and we can’t find it anywhere. I drove back to the church where Jagger had his concert but they couldn’t find it. I’m sure some kid has it and we’ll never see it again. There goes $500, I’m really bummed.

Guess I’ll run as it’s almost 6:30. Everyone is still sleeping but I’d better see what I can move around in the garage. Have a great weekend, take care and God Bless.

What a day

Lori was at the office, Ty had jump rope club (did you know there was such a thing?), Jagger had Honor Band, Peggy was arriving from Aspen and I had lots of work.

I picked up Jag at 12:15, brought him home for a quick snack and then dropped him and his bass clarinet at Faith Christian Academy where he and kids from 90 other schools practiced from 1 until 6pm. The best of the best were chosen from each school, usually only 1 kid per school but 2 from our school. The performance started at 6:30 and went for an hour, everyone was great and we were very proud of him.

Ty went to Vinny’s and we picked him up after it was all over. Meanwhile Peggy showed up and let herself in with the key we left her and will be with us until tomorrow or Sunday. She insists on taking us some place special for dinner tonight.

This morning Peggy needs to go to Berthoud to deliver a refurbished trunk she found for her 38 Rolls Royce as it’s being trailered to San Diego for a car rally and she wants to have the trunk put on the car. Then she’s going to lunch with her friend Mimi who is a curator at the Denver Art Museum. Lori will head off to work at 8 or so and I have a sales meeting at the distributor at 10:20. The boys of course will be at school, so lots going on.

Jagger woke me at 5 as he has been up since 4 doing his homework that he didn’t get done due to the band performance. That’s it, time to run, hope all’s well, God Bless.

Baseball begins

Yesterday afternoon was Jag’s first baseball practice of the season. It was supposed to start January 19th but the Bronco’s were in the playoff’s (don’t remind me) and then it was frozen outside. Our coach is great and we knew him from last year as his son was on Jag’s team but he wasn’t the coach. It seems like we have a great group of boys. By the time practice was over at dusk, it was cold. You could tell all the boys were glad to get in their parents cars.

Meanwhile Lori and Ty were at D.I. until about the same time meaning 5:30. We all made it home a few minutes later. Today Jagger leaves school at 12:30 to go to Faith Bible Chruch/School where he’ll practice all day with the All County Band until 6pm and then put on a performance. It seems he was one of two kids chosen from his school to be in this band. We thought he was the only one as they usually pick only one kid per school but from ours, they ended up picking two!

Peggy, our friend from Aspen, is coming down this afternoon to stay with us for a few days so we’ll all probably go to watch Jag depending on when she makes it down.

Lori has been working hard at work. She’s basically the interim office manager right now handling all the things required to keep everything running. We had a little dusting of snow last night, just enough to coat the ground. Looks like we’ll be stuck in this pattern of 30’s and 40’s with light snow on and off for the next week or so.

No letters or anything today, I’ll try to give it a rest. Hope all’s well, take care and God Bless.

Hmmmmm

No comments? Lori says you are all still trying to absorb yesterday’s post. Hope it wasn’t too much, as it’s hard to argue with if you honestly think about it. Our Country and more importantly, its people, have lost their way, no doubt about it. Now I’m not saying everyone has, but the majority, yes they are gone.

So onto the day, Lori was at work all day long and I too was busy. I did go see Libby, our dermatologist friend, who shot concentrated salt water into some veins I had on my legs to make them collapse. Libby and her husband Carl, our good friends, are coming to Belize with us and offered to get rid of these for me before we go. Now I have ski socks on after some 20 or 25 injections as Libby never does anything half assed. She found veins that hadn’t even surfaced yet, oh well, if you’re going to get it done, might as be all at once!

The wind seems to have died down a little. It was warm and nice today. Lori had a tough day but she figured everything out. Today she’s leaving at 8am for another long day. She feels ok but did have cramps. We all know she never takes it as easy as she should.

Guess I’ll go, hope all’s well, to follow up on yesterday’s letter, check this out. I’m sure you’ll like it much better, God Bless

An old cowboy was riding his trusty horse followed by his faithful dog along an unfamiliar road. The man was enjoying the new scenery, when he suddenly remembered dying, and realized that the dog beside him had been dead for years, as had his horse. Confused, he wondered what was happening, and where the trail was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall that looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch topped by a golden letter “H” that glowed in the sunlight.

Standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like gold.

He rode toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. Parched and tired out by his journey, he called out, ‘Excuse me, where are we?’

‘This is Heaven, sir,’ the man answered.

‘Wow! Would you happen to have some water?’ the man asked.

‘Of course, sir. Come right in, and I’ll have some ice water brought right up.’

As the gate began to open, the cowboy asked, ‘Can I bring my partners, too?’

‘I’m sorry, sir, but we don’t accept pets.’

The cowboy thought for a moment, then turned back to the road and continued riding, his dog trotting by his side.

After another long ride, at the top of another hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a ranch gate that looked as if it had never been closed. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

‘Excuse me,’ he called to the man. ‘Do you have any water?’

‘Sure, there’s a pump right over there. Help yourself.’

‘How about my friends here?’ the traveler gestured to the dog and his horse.

‘Of course! They look thirsty, too,’ said the man.

The trio went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with buckets beside it. The traveler filled a cup and the buckets with wonderfully cool water and took a long drink, as did his horse and dog.

When they were full, he walked back to the man who was still standing by the tree. ‘What do you call this place?’ the traveler asked.

‘This is Heaven,’ he answered.

‘That’s confusing,’ the traveler said. ‘The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.’

‘Oh, you mean the place with the glitzy, gold street and fake pearly gates? That’s hell.’

‘Doesn’t it make you angry when they use your name like that?’

‘Not at all. Actually, we’re happy they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.’

Sometimes, we wonder why friends forward things to us without writing a word. Maybe this explains it:

When you’re busy, but still want to keep in touch, you can forward emails. When you have nothing to say, but still want to keep in contact, you can forward jokes. When you have something to say, but don’t know exactly how, you can forward stuff.

A ‘forward’ lets you know that you’re still remembered, still important, still cared about.

So the next time you get a ‘forward’, don’t think of it as just another joke. Realize that you’ve been thought of today and that your friend on the other end just wanted to send you a smile.

All ok

The boys and I dropped Lori off for her procedure at 11am as scheduled and picked her up around 12:15. All went well and she’s doing fine. She spent the rest of the day on the couch as ordered and will hopefully take it easy today even though she’s headed down to the office.

It’s still windy here as they say we’re right at the windiest spot of the jet stream. It seems we are right on the edge of it and that’s why all the wind. The boys are back to school today for a 4 day week. Yesterday Carrie took them for the afternoon to her house and they played and rode their bikes so Lori could get some rest.

DHL dropped off 84 bottles of wine from Macedonia and we should get some boxes dropped today and then 200 cases delivered next Monday or Tuesday. Then the work will start as I’ll need to re-package them and ship them out across the country.

It’s 5:32 and my alarm didn’t go off for some reason as I had it set for 5am. I’m running late so time to go, but before I do, check out this partial letter that was supposedly written by the devil and published at the first of the year,

To my fallen angels Beelzebub, Lucifer and Leviathan, princes of Hell’s demons, and to my minions, lackeys, toadies and sycophants in America:

As you know, the new year usually finds me quite despondent, as the Prince of Peace’s influence waxes most atrociously around his birthday. But this year I am in fine spirits, nay, let me even declare myself absolutely giddy, for the destruction of the United States of America draws ever nearer.

Though my minions have long sown festering seeds of hate and disharmony in that now-benighted land, only recently have my favored weapons of destruction–leverage, debt, half-truths and endless, preening justifications for self-aggrandizement, greed, sloth, lust, pride, envy, anger and gluttony–have been unleashed to worm their way into the stricken heart of that Republic.
My most treasured hopes of destitution and conflict in the U.S.A. are nearing fruition.

First, my minions in the Federal Reserve–such loyal servants!–and the Federal government have continued to flood the land with leverage and debt, spreading the seeds of destruction under the false guise of prosperity. What a delicious irony, that the fools doomed to eternal damnation in my Empire believe themselves prosperous as they absorb the poison of exponentially rising leverage, debt and phantom collateral.

They have made a mockery of the rule of law, openly flouting “no one is above the law” by letting financial crimes go not just unpunished but rewarded. There are two sets of laws and two sets of books now firmly in place, one for the financial Elites and their political toadies, and another one for the tax donkeys beneath them. This blatant injustice that roams the land like a foul, slobbering beast will eventually ignite the firestorm I seek.

American extravagance has surpassed even my highest expectations, as purveyors of luxury goods reap record profits, and the childish desire for instant gratification has become the unspoken ruler of the land. Convenience is now worshipped as a god, sitting triumphant beside entitlement, greed and willful ignorance.

Convenience is, as you all know, the name of a peculiarly slick slide into Hell.

One of my favorite sins, gluttony, is running amok, with half of the people groaning under their own weight, sickened and weakened. My loyal minions in the fast-food and packaged food industries have followed my plans to perfection, and my lackeys in the marketing and media have fueled the instant gratification and ignorance which insidiously undermine even the greatest empires.

Pride–oh, how the Americans excel at hubris and pride! The Federal Reserve chair, bless her doomed soul, has declared herself confident about an economy that is nothing but a confidence game. Oh, what joy to hear her lies spoken with such confidence!

(this next paragraph particularly rings true)

If ignorance were treasure, the American political class must be declared wealthier than Midas, for its ignorance has reached a pinnacle I can truly admire. Ensnared by their lust for power, blinded by their greed for fame and perquisites, they look no further than the next election cycle, dooming their nation to division, disharmony and the desolation of permanent conflict over the dwindling productive assets of this once-great nation.

The mere thought of the word greed cause me to chuckle delightedly, as the U.S. excels as a haven for greed without bounds, a greed so boundless that the entire universe would be insufficient to satisfy its bankers, hedge fund managers, high-frequency traders, Imperial factotums and politicians. How happy I am to see their greed grease their way into Hell.

(this one too!)

I feel like dancing a jig when I hear the unbridled sense of entitlement which has poisoned the American spirit. Cloaking their greed and avarice with rationalizations–“I was promised,” “It’s my right,” “I deserve it”–brings them closer to me and my Domain with every bleated plea for more, more, more. It is wondrous indeed how my secret invention, “free money,” debilitates once-independent souls, and places them on a one-way street to servitude.

Anger is now overflowing everywhere, building my empire with every thoughtless word. Politicians rage against each other, the people rage against the politicians, and behind the scenes my servants in the political action committees feed the anger with billions of dollars in campaign donations. How amusing to see the politicos lay claim to noble ideals even as they scramble on their knees to collect the millions tossed at their feet to do my bidding.

Oh yes, my bidding, for their greed, pride and anger are my bidding. By all means, politicians, do my work: give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy, let financial crimes go unpunished, allow the financial Elites’ looting to go unhindered, transfer the wealth earned by the citizens’ sweat to the Central State’s financial Elites when their trillion-dollar bets go bad–fuel the anger which will tear you from power, and tear the country apart.

I laughed with glee a few years ago when One Beholden To Me announced that he was doing “God’s work”–how I love twisting together irony and lies! He fooled no one, of course, for even the most deluded souls know he is doing My Work, not the Lord’s, but they are too distracted by games and ginned-up contests to care. Nothing has changed since the corrupt system tasted a whiff of what lies ahead in 2008; oh, how deliciously the lies and the debts are piling ever higher!

Not caring is doing my work, too, of course; in fact, it one of my favorite tools.

The nation bled itself for a decade with unwinnable wars, sacrificing its best youth on the altar of endless war–how can I not rejoice at this orgy of death, destruction and sowing of hate? The feeble liars at the nation’s helm print endless sums to fund war and to prop up vile tyrants, but offer nothing for libraries or literacy or the curing of malaria. How can I not rejoice at a nation which finds trillions for war and next to nothing to fight the diseases of the poor residents of former colonies, including that Prince of Disease, ignorance.

As for sloth–that millions are being paid to sit around watching television instead of being productive creates the perfect breeding ground for resentment, malice and envy. How perfect to pay people to sit at home and rot away, with only their discontent and despair for company.

The spiritual rot is now so deep and pervasive that the people no longer even recognize the decay –they have been lulled into a false belief that this culture of fraud, embezzlement, manipulations, propaganda and parasitic financial Elites has always held sway. This is precisely how a people act when they have lost their way, spiritually and morally: they elevate sins to virtues, and forget the lessons of their past.

And of course everyone claiming that there is no spiritual vacuum sucking the nation dry, that the status quo is simply “business as usual”–they are doing my work, too, for habituating to all that is corrupt and reprehensible, all that is lacking in integrity and honesty, this is doing my work most admirably.

Anyhow it goes on and on, this was on a highly respected financial website. What a unique way of trying to make a point. Maybe some people will finally “get it” looking at where we’re at through the supposed eyes of the devil, (who knows, could be???). Hard to argue with it if you really think about it. All I can say is get right with yourself and get right with God.

Have a great day and God Bless.

Pres Day

This morning Lori will run down to the office and then we’ll drop here at 11am for her procedure. She should be ready to go home by 12:30 or 1. Hopefully all will go well.

The boys are off today for President’s Day and back to school tomorrow. Ty spent the night at Ben’s while Jag watched some tv until about 9:30.

We slept in until 6:45 and are rushing around trying to get moving now. That’s it for the day, really strong winds last night and more tonight. Other than that, it was a pretty nice day.

Have to go, take care and God Bless.
