No comments, come on

Alright, no matter who you are, the link from yesterday’s post was funny. The misses first discovered it and couldn’t stop laughing. You gotta love Joe Biden, he’s the master of gaffs.

They say more snow today. Of course it probably will snow as I need to ship some more wine. Anything to screw me up.

Yesterday we went to the RV show just for fun. Campers are pretty reasonably priced. You can buy a really nice one for under $20,000 which if you look at what you get, is a really good deal. Of course we were just browsing as we’re still on an all out mission to get out of debt, not go in deeper. The boys had a blast running in and out of all the campers. They had a group of women who were “lady lumberjacks”that put on a show that included chopping, sawing, ax throwing and log rolling competitions between themselves. We were sitting in the front row and when they asked for a volunteer, the oldest stuck his hand up! He was chosen to take the microphone and countdown 3,2,1, go for the start of the girls competing. The boys had lots of fun.

As I said, I need to box up a bunch of wine and get it off to Fed Ex. Jag has tinikiling at 7am so he needs to get up at 6. Ty has D.I. after school since they made State and the misses is downtown at the office while I’ll be working the phones as usual.

Time for me to get to work. There’s a great new mini series on tv called The Bible which is an accurate portrayal of the Bible. We all watched some of the first episode last night while having dinner. It was pretty good and the boys enjoyed it. Check it out, it’s on the History channel.

So take care and have a great week. It’ll never be here again so live it to the fullest. God Bless.

Ode to bacon

Who likes bacon? Isn’t everything better with bacon? I just returned from the gym and had thought the misses did the post today but she thought I did so that’s why it’s late. Not that any of you would notice anyhow as I doubt anyone reads this at 8am our time.

I stopped and picked up some apples and oatmeal at the store and when I arrived home, the smell of freshly cooked bacon was wafting through the house.

The youngest had his friend Jake spend the night after his big day of D.I. We’re happy to report that he and his team are going to the State Championships! Apparently they were one of the top teams and scored high enough to get to the next level. We were all wiped out so I drove to La Loma for mexican food to go for dinner. The misses said maybe we should all go and just eat there but I thought it’d be too crowded. When I arrived there was a 90 minute wait and I stopped counting at 75 people waiting for a table, lucky we picked it up to go!

That damn dog Lacey was barking and wouldn’t stop at 5am. All she wanted was food, she didn’t want to go out or anything else, just wanted breakfast. I have to break her of this 5am breakfast habit as it’s just too early. Anyhow it was me that had to get up so I read the paper and headed off to the gym.

Here’s a new one, now the democrats want to ban any shotgun that can be converted to hold more than 3 shells. This would mean even Grandpa Bob’s hunting guns would be illegal. This has to stop, it’s just ridiculous. How about Joe Biden’s ludicrous statements it’s easier to shoot a shotgun than an AR. Well hold onto your hats and check this out.

Hope all’s well, have a great Sunday and God Bless you all.

Destination Imagination

Good morning…The world did not end yesterday….the Mr and I are awake and downstairs.  The dogs have been fed and the coffee is made…rich, hot and deeeelicious.

The youngest has his Destination Imagination Tournament this morning.  We have to be at the High School at 8:00a.m. for a 9:00a.m. start and then wait until 11:00 for the team’s instant challenge.  The kids did a nice job.  They came up with a script and a tropical theme and they made a set for their play…palm trees, a coconut farm a giant truck to haul the coconuts and much much more.  I’ll write more about the costumes and the sets tomorrow.

The boys had their Rhythms performances yesterday. In rhythms the kiddos learn 4 different folk dances.  Tinikling, a Polynesian folk dance….Square dancing…an American folk dance, Polka and The Waltz box step.  The boys were so darn cute!  Some of the kids looked like they were in pain…having to hold hands with the opposite sex and some were laughing and smiling.  The Music teacher and the P.E. teacher collaborate to put the performance together and the kids actually break a sweat.  Anyway, it was fun to watch and it is so nice that the school invites the parents to watch and support the kids and even participate in a dance at the end.

Grandma and Uncle T. made it to Arizona early last night. They will be enjoying the sunshine for a bit.  Wish we were in the Arizona soaking up the sun!

The youngest has a friend coming over for a sleep over tonight and the oldest is thinking perhaps he should go to his friends for a sleepover.  I think I will take them sledding after DI to get fresh air and exercise…running back up to the top of the hill is really tough, although it doesn’t seem to phase them.

Good morning, I’m taking over for the misses as she’s run out of material. As she said, the sequester kicked in and the World didn’t end. Hmmmm, all that fear mongering and for what, a measly 1 1/2% in cuts. The Pres had to get on tv yesterday and say it’s not going to be an apocalypse or all that bad after weeks of saying the sky was falling. Did anyone see Rep. Maxine Waters of California with Nancy Pelosi saying we would lose 170 million jobs! That’s more than the entire work force of the country! Then she said 750,000 jobs. Wow, what a joke. I jumped on line to check security lines at a bunch of airports around the country and they all had short wait lines, despite what we were told. As far as our food no longer being safe, hell, it’s not safe now! And on and on it goes. How about the White House threatening journalists who don’t go along with their point of view, Wow! Do you really think the Pres has YOUR best interest at heart? Do you really matter to him? I don’t think so, he’s too busy taking away our rights. How about Good Morning America editing The Pres’s wife’s misstatements about gun control by cutting 7 seconds of stupid assertions by her that would have shown everyone just how disconnected and out of touch (that’s a nice way of saying she’s stupid!) she is. ABC claimed they had to cut the 7 seconds for time but they did show her cooking for another 8 1/2 minutes! Guess her showing us how to cook is more important than sharing her complete view on gun control. The real problem is most of America is so freakin gullible that they believe what they see on tv. Wake the _-_- up people. You are flat out being manipulated and lied to. If you do not see that by now, God help you.

Ok, I feel a lot better now. I kind of like the misses writing first as it gives me time to gear up to give everyone a good dose of the truth. If you’re offended, sorry but the truth is the truth. Deal with it. Man I feel good!

God Bless, (wonder if I’ll get any comments today?)

All moved in

By 2pm I had all the wine moved into the house, a bunch repackaged and dropped at Fed Ex and was on the way home. It wasn’t all that bad, the misses helped some and then my buddy Matt showed up to help with the last 75 cases or so. Here’s a comment from Annette,

Annette says:

Remember your back Doug!

Well I did watch my back, very carefully, but I didn’t watch my feet. I had taken the nylon wraps off every pallet except for one where it was already loose. Turns out an hour later while I was carrying a case, my right foot got caught in it and down I went in the garage. It must have looked bad as the misses looked really worried when it happened and asked if I was ok. I must have landed perfectly, as I’m no worse for wear. Not even bruised anywhere, must be all the gym work I do! I was most worried about whether or not I broke the case of wine I was carrying.

The good looking one then took off for meetings downtown and finally made it home just before 6pm. She has lots going on and is all in. Today we have an event at school for the oldest at 9:10 and then for the youngest at 1:30. In between the misses has an acupuncture appointment and I have a few errands as well.

Looks like Chicken Little is having his bluff called. I hope the sequester kicks in as it seems it’s the only way to get government to cut any spending at all! Bring it on, we’ve all had our paychecks cut anyhow, time to stop the madness in Washington.

It’s now 5:21 and my Mom and Uncle T should be on the road as when I called at 4:30, they were just getting ready to leave. I guess they’ll be in Arizona for about 12 days! I didn’t know it’d be that long. Hope they have fun.

Time to hit the gym for some leg work and cardio. My arms had enough of a workout yesterday so I’ll give them a rest today. Hope all’s well, have a great weekend and stay safe. God Bless.

10,000 pounds, at least….

That’s how much weight in wine I’ll be throwing around today. 250 cases at 40 pounds each will need to be moved off a truck, then inside, then opened, repackaged and then taken to Fed Ex. I only need to ship about 20 out today which is good as there’s no way it could all be done in one day. Usually I get some help from 3 or 4 guys and pay them each $100 but this time I’m going to tackle it along with my hunting buddy who said he’d come and help out. I figure if I do it myself, I can skip the gym today.

Yesterday the misses was working and finally finished up after a Webinar (which is an on-line seminar) around a little after 6pm. The boys played around here with a friend of the youngest who came home with them after school. Before they came home, Mom took them all sledding for about an hour.

I think my Mom and Uncle T are headed to Scottsdale tomorrow morning unless her plans have changed. She’s cleaning out the house down there as she decided she’s going to sell it. She doesn’t go down much any more with Dad gone and the markets bouncing back a little so it’s probably a good time. We were going to try to go but the airfare is too expensive as everyone is going down for Spring Training (baseball).

The misses has another international conference call this morning with the art designer and then will be off to the office early afternoon for meetings so I’ll need to get the boys unless we can find a friend to get them.

The Pope is retiring, big deal huh. The almighty sequester is still being touted as the end of the World by Chicken Little, or I mean the Pres. Before we go on, let’s get one thing straight here, the sequester does NOT cut any money from current spending, all it does is slow or reduce the rate of future spending! The way he tells it, everything is going to stop, our food will no longer be safe, schools will be shuttered, security at airports will take days, etc, etc, etc. They even released a bunch of illegal aliens (criminals) around the country yesterday saying they had to because of the sequester, which hasn’t even happened yet! Of course they did this mostly in Arizona as the Pres and Governor Brewer do not get along. To put it in perspective, if an agency was going to hire 100 people next year, the sequester means they can now only hire 98, a 2% cut, that’s it, nothing else. Thank God everyone finally seems to be over him and his endless campaigning and scare tactics. I guess like anything else, people become complacent after they hear something over and over. And oh yea, the government is set to shut down the end of March so that’ll be the next end of the World scenario we’ll all have to listen to. Give me a break.

Last up is they’re making adultery legal in Colorado! So, you can legally buy pot, marry your gay partner (I’m ok with gay people having the same benefits via civil unions but think the definition of marriage should be for a man and a woman) and now cheat on your husband or wife. But remember, you can’t teach anything about God in school! Nice…..

Ok, time to run, I need one more cup of coffee before I start moving furniture around to accommodate all the wine I’ll be stacking around the house. The wife hates this time of year as there’s wine everywhere but it’s part of being self employed and she understands.

Have a great day and God Bless.

Another long day

The misses was out the door at the same time as the kids and made it home around 1:30 with her headache in tow. I dropped the kids and headed straight to the airport to drop a check for air cargo and then was off to Aurora. During the day I also made it to the bank, Fed Ex and the grocery store plus picked up the oldest as he wasn’t feeling well. I guess he really was sick!

This morning I’m taking off around 6:30 (45 minutes from now) for the warehouse and will hopefully make it back by 8 to take the kids to school. It’s early release day so the boys will be home by lunchtime. On top of that, a close friend of my Mom’s and our family for many many years (probably 40 or 50) passed away the day before last. I called my Mom yesterday as Lori received a call the night before last. We thought they also called my Mom but when I told her, she was shocked as she didn’t know. The memorial service is tonight from 6 to 8 and I think we will try to go as Uncle Don (as we called him) was good to all of us and always got me my parking passes for the Bronco games each year. The misses just reminded me that the youngest has a basketball game so I’m not sure what we’ll do.

It’s cold, about 20 but will warm up to about 32 today and then warmer tomorrow. Perfect timing for all the wine arriving tomorrow. Time to go, here’s the misses.

The youngest just came down, he said he was scarred.  I totally understand that, since I’m scarred to be in the basement by myself at night even though I know there is no way for anyone to be down there. I actually sprint up the stairs because I get so creeped out.  Actually, I’m sure I’m quite comical if you were to see me when I’m scared.  As I’ve mentioned before…I’ve always had bad dreams..nightmares…and I had one last night.  I woke the Mr. at 11:39 and he woke me to let me know I was having a dream.  Of course he couldn’t go back to sleep until 1:00 a.m. or so and I was sleeping by 11:41.  I feel really bad for disrupting his sleep.  He hasn’t had a good night’s sleep in years. Maybe tonight.

Yesterday, I had my first Womens Foundation of Colorado Corporate Committee meeting.  We met at DU from 8:30-10-30 to split up the list of supporters from last year. The ladies are all very nice and hopefully I can figure out a way to turn them into Skin Care clients.

After the WFCO meeting I went to Dr. Rodgers office to do some work and put together press packets to distribute to some key people. Once I get sample containers I’ll give and send some of the product to our loyal readers.

I’m taking the Mr.’s dentist appointment this morning for a cleaning and then putting away the mountains of laundry that the Mr. graciously washed, dried, and folded over the last few days. Thank you Mr.

Off to cook for the kiddos….Lulu, we are so sorry for your loss.

God Bless.

And on it goes

Another day, lots to do but we all need to make a point to enjoy it as this one particular day will soon be gone forever!

It’s 6am and I just returned from the gym to find everyone up and downstairs. It’s 19 but feels like 9 and we’re supposed to get more snow today. The misses has a Women’s Foundation board meeting at DU (the University of Denver) this morning at 8:30. After our trip to Vail, she was feeling a little bit better. This guy really seems to know what he’s doing, thank God! We’re paying for it out of our own pocket and she kept apologizing to the point where I had to tell her to just be quiet as we’re way passed the point of whatever it costs, the only important thing is to get her feeling better. Remarkable how we’re now making progress ever since I personally took over managing her care. See, I knew I was a doctor, and all those girls in high school and college didn’t believe me!

Jag and I had baseball practice last night and he’s really doing well. The coaches really seem to know what they’re doing and are really teaching him the proper technique. With batting there’s about 50 things to get right. That’s why the major league teams still have batting coaches. Anyhow he’s really doing well.

I just had to take a break to tickle both boys as they’re fighting over who gets to put their legs where on the couch. Oh what fun!

Jagger says we should let him stay home from school because, and I quote, “I have a stuffy nose, a sore throat, an upset stomach and I kinked my neck so I can’t turn my head or bend down.” I just asked him if there was anything else and he replied, “nahh.” The rule around here is , no fever, no stay home!

Meanwhile we’re trying to get Ty off the couch to find his homework folder. He’s now asking Mom to look but she said no, you find your own folder, not our job!

My wine lands tomorrow at noon so Thursday am it’ll arrive at the house if I’m lucky. I do need to go to the airport to British Air Cargo and pay a $40 fee. I did manage to clean the garage and then go to a non profit and drop off 6 large trash bags of old clothes. We joked that there’s going to be some homeless guy walking around wearing old Armani sports coats!

Well time to go, the idiots in Washington (and basically all politicians) are up to their same old shit, which basically means nothing except passing more and more laws that do nothing except infringe on our rights. What a world we now live in. Hope things change for the better somehow, someday. We all really need to pay attention to who’s running for what these days, especially locally, Can you say Governor Fugate!

God Bless

Cold and snowy

Well, we have snow, and lots of it, comparatively to what we’ve seen so far this year. They say a little more will arrive tomorrow too. The ground and the state sure need it so we’re ok with it. The misses and I will be off to Vail first thing after dropping the kiddos at school and I’m sorry to say, her headache is back. We think it was because of her stomping her foot while walking the night before last. She has a burning sensation in her neck under her skin, hopefully this guy can work his magic and fix her up!

Here’s a comment from Annette,

Annette says:

I’m going outside to feed the birds this morning and turn the water on the lawn (it’s about 61 and windy) because we didn’t get very much water from our last rain.I will then sit my butt down on the chair in the sunshine and watch all the pre red carpet, red carpet and Oscar’s for the rest of the day. It’s like Super Bowl Sunday at my house. Go see Silver Linings Play Book and Lincoln both very good but Argo should win. By the way I don’t care about the Hollywood people, I just want to see what they are wearing and how many people Seth McFarlen will piss off. (excuse the languge)

Turns out we did watch some of the Oscars as the misses too wanted to see what everyone was wearing. I guess Seth (the host) pissed some people off as they say he didn’t do such a good job. From what I saw, he was pretty funny. I fell asleep before the best actor, actress and picture were announced. They should do those first but then I guess no one would watch.

The misses appointment is at 10:30 so she’ll be done at noon and hopefully we’ll be home by 1:30 or 2. Our wine is supposed to arrive tomorrow and I’ll have 150 to 200 cases t0 carry in. I think I’ll do it all myself for the workout and to save the money instead of paying someone to help me. The rest of the week will be spent re-boxing various bottles and sending them out across the country. It’s a pain in the ass but has to be done. If I don’t do it myself, it’ll get screwed up.

Anyone watching this whole sequester thing? It appears, if you listen to the White House, that our World will end this Friday if we don’t sign off on not cutting a mere 85 billion dollars from the U.S. budget. Now let’s think about this for a moment, The deficit is 16 trillion and we’re freaking out over cutting 85 billion or less than 1/2 of 1%. All I can say is if the losers in Congress and the Big O can’t cut a measly 1/2 of 1%, we’re all in real trouble. Let’s face it, we’re all in real trouble anyhow but this further emphasizes the stupidity of our elected leaders. It cracks me up when the Pres has all those firefighters and policemen standing behind him when he’s telling us all the sky is falling. First of all, those first responders are paid on a local level by state taxes, there is no U.S. Fire Department! This is pure grandstanding and political theater. Second, if each federal agency cannot voluntary cut a percent or two, screw em. I say let the cuts kick in. Thankfully I think the general public is finally beginning to see the pattern of the Pres just blaming everyone but himself and trying to scare people to get his way. After all, the sequester was HIS idea, not the GOP’s or even the Dems, it was all his. Remember real leaders like Reagan and Kennedy. Did you ever see them give a speech blaming others? I don’t think so, they would instead roll up their sleeves and get to work.  I remember Tip O’Neil and Reagan always getting together and working things out. But no, this Pres just keeps blaming everyone else while at the same time he continues to take away our rights by passing more and more useless laws to further his own agenda. A storm is a brewing, get ready as our economy is built on a house of cards. Ok, enough doom and gloom. Like I said before, if you don’t know this already, you probably never will.

It’s almost 6am and both pups are sleeping at my feet. A few schools are closed or opening late but sadly for the boys, ours is not one of them. They were really hoping for a snow day. I did take them sledding at school yesterday as they have a good hill. The boys had a blast for about 40 minutes but then we left as the wind was too cold. We then stopped at Starbucks for some hot chocolate to warm them up. The rest of the day the boys played either here or at the neighbors house. Tonight the oldest has baseball and the youngest has basketball. back to the grind, busy busy.

Have a great week, take care, stay safe and God Bless.

Snowy Sunday

It must have started coming down in the middle of the night as there are a few inches of the heavy white stuff on the ground now at 6am. Mojo, who went out after breakfast, was covered in a fresh blanket within minutes. Even Lacey seemed to want to stay out for awhile and play in the backyard. The boys made a snowman yesterday that’s getting an extra coat too. They say it’ll snow until late tonight and could add up to 12 inches in total. Personally I think it’ll be 6 inches at best as the weatherman is always wrong, we’ll see.

Yesterday Jag and I went to Dicks Sporting Goods as it was Golden Baseball Day (as well as every other teams day which we found out when we arrived) and they had coupons for 15% off all the gear he needed. We picked up two pair of baseball pants, 2 shirts, a couple pair of socks and a belt. We forgot a cup which we’ll need to go back for. He’s super excited but with the registration fee and all his gear, we’re approaching $1000! I don’t know how some family’s can even afford to play. It was tough for us but we made it a priority.

I passed on a new truck, I think I’ll wait for the 2014 models as they’re totally redesigned. I could have had the deal I wanted but didn’t find anything I had to have.

The kids said lots of funny things yesterday but of course, I can’t remember them. Maybe the misses will contribute when she wakes up. Her headache came back a bit yesterday, we’re hoping it’s gone this morning.

UPDATE: Fast forward to 8 o’clock, 2 hours later……..

Both boys are now down with me and getting along so well. I just asked why they couldn’t get along like this last night and Ty said, “I think we were over stimulated and had sugar and caffeine!” So there you have it, guess we just need to keep them off chocolate and coffee!

The misses just came down and her headache’s back a little bit, we’ll keep working on it. The snow is piling up and we now have a good 4 inches or so and it’s suppose to snow all day long, maybe this time the weatherman is right, for once.

Not much else from me so I guess I’ll run. The Oscars are tonight but we don’t really watch any of those award shows. We’re not really into watching Hollywood pat each other on the back. We’d rather watch the actual movie. We did see Argo the other day which was a really good movie and Hitchcock last night which was also good. They say Argo should win and I don’t know if Hitchcock is nominated. Oh well, we’ll be watching something else or playing a game or something.

Take care and God Bless.

Not going to Vail

It turns out we’re going to Vail Monday am for the misses head (acupuncture) as she just didn’t feel like driving today (ski traffic and the car ride sometimes makes her head worse) and she’s, knock on wood, still feeling a little better. We’re hoping and praying this is the beginning of the end of her headaches. I don’t want to write too much as I might jinx her.

The boys had a great day at school and we picked them up at 4 as they had chess club after their day. Today I need to try to get them their snow board boots so we can try to get up to the hills at least a couple of times this year.

It’s 6:20 now as I slept in a little. I was up at 4 but forced myself to go back to sleep. We might get a new pickup today as they have 0% and $12,000 off. If you play the game right (which I do) you can actually drive a new truck every 3 years or so and make your payment continue to go down. I’ve been doing this for a few trucks now and it really does work. The trick is if you buy at 0%, and you buy a truck, the value holds at a higher rate than normal cars do (or deprecation) and if you wait for 0% and get the $10 to $12,000 rebates or discounts they give you when next years models are coming out, you can do really really well. Plus the sales manager is a good friend of mine which helps. Sure you do end up owing more overall but the amount is negligible, a few thousand dollars tacked on the back end of the loan but you own a brand new truck. We’ll see, I’ve walked from many a car lot as I know the game better than most of them. It’s actually fun for me, I enjoy the art of the deal. The misses keeps telling me I should buy cars for people for a living.

I’ve pretty much been gluten free for a few weeks now and am sort of getting used to it. The few times I’ve had wheat, I felt real sluggish and bloated. Maybe there’s something to it. It’s tough to find good bread though, we tried some garbanzo flour bread yesterday that was horrible. It’s going back to the store.

On the news right now they’re showing 3 suspects (all black, just saying) that killed 7 people in a bar and got away with a total of $170! Nice, real nice. Divide $170 by 7 and you get about $24 per human life, unbelievable.

More snow tomorrow, yea, we need it bad. Time for me to run as it’s a gym day. Hope all’s well, take care, be safe and God Bless.
