Snow

It’s here, the white stuff. Not too much though, maybe 2 inches at most. I’m sure there’s more on top of the pass but no way there’s the 12 to 14 inches they forecasted. Good.

Yesterday morning Ty and I headed to Denver for tires. We were done by 11 and then hit the mall for some new basketball shoes. Then we hit a European grocery store and stopped by to see Uncle Tommy before grabbing some food to go and heading up the hill. By 3 we were home and then the boys and I had some lunch before taking the dogs up the hill again. Around 6 Jag headed to Zack’s where he spent the night. Ty played some games and is still sleeping now. I did more laundry.

As soon as I finish up the post, take the dogs up the hill and finish my coffee, I’m headed to the gym. Lori gets home around noon tomorrow so I’ll leave around 9am. No Bronco game today, thank God. I’m going to try to get some cleaning done which I seem to do or try to do every day. CU lost bad again yesterday too so Tom and I are looking forward to basketball which starts Wednesday. Our hockey team, the Av’s, are the best in the league but I don’t watch much hockey. Maybe I need to start, ha.

Time to find some shoes and harness up the dogs, God Bless.

back at it

Cleaning, eating right, walking the dogs, feeding the boys, driving everywhere, I’m back at it. We managed to get Lori to the airport in time for her flight despite lines everywhere from the road to security to even the bathroom at one gas station. The boys were off yesterday and I was back by noon. This morning I’m back down in Denver to have new tires put on Lori’s car. Not excited about another trip but we’re supposed to get a bunch of snow tomorrow and I need to pick Lori up Monday and will need good tires for the snow.

I came down to some dog poop on the hardwood floor that had to be there for a while as it was dried and stuck and hard to get up, ugh. Not sure which dog is guilty. It’s says low to mid 60’s and windy in Denver which is nice.

Jag’s soccer coach who hit him in the head and ear has been emailing wondering how he is doing. I don’t think Jag has a concussion but he does have ringing in his ear. Hope it’s not like mine which is still ringing from hunting. Mines a faint dull ring that I only notice when sitting still, but it’s there. Stupid decision by me to shoot at an elk without hearing protection. As much as I’ve been shooting in my life I should have known better but got caught up in the moment.

Lori had lunch with her friend Terri when she arrived in Sacramento. Then it was off to her mom’s. They went to Lido for dinner last night. I think Dixie wants to move to Lakewood and then I heard maybe move in with us. Now no way she can move into our little Minturn house but Lori suggested she move into my office when our house is built. I guess I’ll have to wait a while to have my own office if this is what she wants but I think Dixie would be bored all day in the house with no one around. That’s basically what she has now. She’d be better off moving into the nice assisted living place we found in Lakewood and then her niece and nephew are about a mile away. We’ll see, all I know is she should probably not live alone anymore as much as she wants to. I get it, Mom did too and vowed to never go to a home even though it probably would have prolonged her life. She wanted her independence and privacy and that was that. I too never ever want to go into a home! Tom and I need to make a pact!

Time to get moving, not sure if the boys will get up and go with me. That was the plan but things change when you’re a teenager, ha. Have a good day, we miss Lori even though it’s only been 1 day. Be safe and God Bless.

Up all night

Last night, after a painful football game, we put Harley in her crate for the night as she’s been waking us up at 4 am. Well she didn’t like that much as she barked on and off for most of the night. Lori and I each took her outside once and were up at 12:30 and 3:30 that we know of. Finally I put a blanket over her. It’s 5:15 now and we need to leave for the airport at 6:15. I hope Dixie will finally make the move to Lakewood as these trips are getting old. Once our house is done it’ll be even more difficult as it’ll add another 40 minutes to the drive making these trips less frequent.

I need to see if I can get tires on the Range Rover today after dropping Lori before the snow arrives. Not sure where to go but I’ll look in Denver. Jag was hit in the head with a soccer ball by his coach at practice yesterday! Of course it wasn’t intentional but he wasn’t happy. His coach and I talked and he was very sorry but Jag was very upset at practice, surprise surprise. Both boys are off today so they can sleep in. I should be back around lunch time and then hopefully get some rest.

It’s 5:26 now so time to get moving. Tom and I hung out yesterday and had some fun just talking and going to one of my favorite gun shops and range. We should do it more often. That’s it, have a great day and get ready for the snow, God Bless.

Busy busy

Today I have an appointment to get the truck serviced and then need to get back up before the big game tonight. The Bronco’s play the Chiefs and it sure would be great if we would win. I gave our tickets away as I need to leave early tomorrow morning to take Lori to the airport. Both boys have tomorrow off from school so it’s a 3 day weekend for them.

Yesterday was lots of work. The house has the second floor started and the stairs to the basement are in. The roof trusses arrive a week from today so it’ll go on the end of next week. Yesterday Jag sent test scores to The University of Colorado, Baylor University, Pepperdine (in Malibu) and The University of Santa Clara also in California. He can add more colleges but that was his list of schools that have early application deadlines. Pretty exciting, Lori and I are of course hoping for CU.

Our new roof is on covering our front door and there’s no longer a gap between the neighbors and our place. This means no huge ice pile this winter, yeah!

6:22 now so time to go. Have a great day and God Bless and Go Bronco’s.

The day after

It’s all down hill now, at least until January 15th. We can’t believe the amount of taxes we had to pay this year. Throw in another $10,000 to school yesterday and it was a pretty brutal day. Like I said yesterday, it wouldn’t be so painful if we actually saw some things done with all the tax money the govt. receives. The roads are still crap, homeless people still are not taken care of, medical insurance continues to rise and on and on. Personally I think the only solution is to scale things way back into let’s say, 50 independent smaller governments. We could even call them States! Then each of those State’s could manage their own money and people, what a novel idea. Problem is I don’t think the federal govt. will give up all that money. How could they keep all those people employed and go to all those fancy dinners with all those lobbyists that pay for their beach houses and ski vacations. Oh well, maybe just maybe people might wise up and vote for term limits, but I doubt it.

The weather is supposed to change this weekend when Lori goes to and comes back from California. Of course it does, right? The house is coming along and we’re continuing to shop for the best deals on things like floors, fixtures and more. Every one tries to rip you off these days.

We had a new roof built over our front door yesterday which will hopefully keep the ice and snow off our walkway in front of the front door. The building should have been designed this way in the first place. The guy who built this place (who we know) really cut corners wherever he could. Turns out he’s not who we thought he was and has burned a lot of bridges with a lot of good people in town. Oh well, water under the bridge.

Time to get moving, Lori is working out at 7 and I am at 7:30. It’s the only thing that keeps us sane. Plus when you get older you have to, and I repeat, have to stay in shape and have a strong core and legs. The number one health risk for older people (we’re not old in case you thought we were referring to ourselves) is falling. My theory is anything I can do to help myself live a longer healthier life, I have to do. Ok, no more soapbox, have a great day, GB.

Tax Day

Most people think April 15th is tax day, which it is, but today is the day you pay taxes if you own a Company. So for the past few days we’ve been filing and paying in States like Arizona, California, Colorado and New York, plus paying the rest of the our Federal taxes. Not sure what all they do with the money as it seems we pay more and more and get less and less. Oh well, progress.

Lori and I both need to leave early this morning. I’ll be in Denver by 9 and hopefully back before 11. Harley is home for the next few weeks as her daycare is closed while the owners move. Today is the last day of the Quarter at school and tomorrow Ty has his PSAT. Jag wants to go visit Baylor so we’ll try to get down to Texas next week, more to come.

Time to run, God Bless.

Hunter’s Moon

Did you see the moon last night? It was big and orange and one thing about living in the mountains is that you can really see it. They call it the Hunter’s Moon. Not sure why but I could guess. The Bronco’s won yesterday, whoo hoo. Now we have the Chiefs this Thursday night and Lori leaves early Friday. More great timing.

Lori’s conference was a huge success. She put this all together while doing her regular job and normally there are companies you hire to set up these sort of things. Lori wrapped up around 4:30 or 5 and Jag went and picked her up so I could watch the football game.

Tomorrow is tax day and the end of the Quarter at school. It’s a big day for the boys as they have some tests and things to turn in. They’re both doing very well in school so hopefully they wrap it up the same way.

Hope you all saw the article or post on Uncle C.B. It was sent out on the 12th which was the day he was killed. It’s eerie how much he looks like dad. I sure miss mom and dad. I know it’s cliché but what I’d give for one more day or even a few hours with both of them, just to talk. Oh well, they live on in our thoughts and spirit.

Did you see now some want to change Columbus Day to indigenous people day? I guess I’m old as I just don’t get people trying to change history, even if it’s bad. It’s part of who we are as a Country from slavery to any and everything that now people are offended by. Not saying you need to support things like slavery but trying to rewrite history doesn’t work. You can tear down all the statues you want and edit books and such but it doesn’t change a thing. What a fucking joke. Not sure when this all started but it does somehow coincide with all the problems we have which not coincidently all seem to have started when social media became the norm. Imagine life without the internet. Sure we’d miss some things like communicating via email and researching some things but not having faceless people and ideas driving our kids and peoples thoughts and ideology would be a good trade off. Maybe Jag can do a senior project on life without the internet.

That’s it, time to go. Have a great day, and for God Sakes people, think for yourself! God Bless.

Wyoming

Man I love Wyoming. Just for fun I was surfing the internet last night for cheap property near Jackson which is about 5 or 6 hours away. Surprisingly there’s lots of options out there that are really inexpensive. Lots of good fishing and property for sale all within 45 minutes of Jackson Hole. Just a pipe dream right now but if our wacko politicians keep going the way they’re going, I’m calling Tom and getting him to go in on a mini gentleman’s ranch with me, ha! Of course it’d be better to just get rid of our California style politicians. These guys think they’re our leaders when in fact they’re supposed to be our representatives. They work for us but of course if your a democrat, you’ve forgotten that as all you want to do is pass more and more laws thinking that that’ll somehow fix everything.

Before I get off politics, I cannot believe all the backlash Ellen DeGeneres is getting for sitting next to former President George Bush at a football game. What the fuck is wrong with these democrats. They’re all so angry and hate anyone who doesn’t agree with them and now have even turned on Ellen, the poster girl for LGBQT rights. This shows they’ll turn on anyone, wow.

I left for Denver around 7:20 am after helping Lori set up for her conference. I was down and up by 11 am. Then it was time to clean around here while Jag was in Denver at soccer and Ty was cleaning. I also made a black cherry pie and then a prime rib roast to make the boys French dip sandwiches for dinner. Finally I picked Lori up around 5. Her conference so far is a big success. Day two today and she’s getting ready now.

I’ll drop her and then go to the gym. I’m still sore from my workout with Stacey last Thursday. More to come tomorrow. It warmed up yesterday and most of the snow is gone but they say more next weekend. Of course this is the weekend Lori is traveling.

Before I go, here’s an email I received from a buddy of mine who is a Sherriff in Jeffco about Uncle CB. Yesterday was 79 years since he was the first Sherriff killed in the line of duty. He sure looks a lot like dad! Here’s the email sent out to all Jefferson County Sherriff’s. Dad would be happy and proud they still honor him. We donate to their foundations every year to help them out.

Here ya go.

On this day, October 12, we remember the life of JeffCo Undersheriff Clarence Fugate. Gone, but never forgotten.Undersheriff Fugate was killed in the line of duty on October 12, 1940, in Arvada.

Undersheriff Fugate went to Lee’s Tavern with the intention of arresting the bartender who had shot a man earlier that evening. After the undersheriff arrived and was misdirected by the bartender to the kitchen to search for the weapon, the suspect opened fire and killed him.

Deputies then shot the suspect who later recovered and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Today we ask everyone to pause and take a moment to remember Undersheriff Fugate and all that he accomplished during his service at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Every deputy signs up for this challenging job knowing that one day he or she might have to make the ultimate sacrifice for our community. That’s why it’s imperative we take the time to reflect on those individuals who have died in the line of duty, to ensure they are never forgotten.

At 8:00 a.m. today we will take a special moment to remember him over the radio and over the speakers in Headquarters.

Undersheriff Fugate may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Time to get moving, have a great day and Go Bronco’s, God Bless.

Warming up

Today the conference starts. Last night after work we headed over to drop off some stuff at the hotel. The boys went out to parties or so they told us, ha. Ty made it home around 12:30 and not sure when Jag walked through the door. He’s supposed to leave for a soccer game in Denver around 9 am. We’ll see if he makes it.

It’s 5;30 am now and Lori is in the shower. I’ll jump in after her and go help her set up at the conference and then leave around 7:30 when registration starts. Poor girl has to work all weekend and she (and I) didn’t get much sleep.

Time to go get coffee so I can get moving. That’s it, have a great day, GB>

Cold

Lori’s spine conference starts tomorrow. She’s been working hard for months to get this all together. Dr. C. finally gave her the agenda at 11pm night before last. Registration starts at the Arrabelle at 7:30 tomorrow morning. Hope it goes well.

Ty has a few tests today and was up until 12:40 am last night as he couldn’t sleep. That’s what happens when you drink coffee late in the afternoon unless you’re a pro like me.

I talked to Jonny yesterday as Harry had a CAT scan the day before on his birthday and then a bone marrow test I guess yesterday. We both hope he’s ok. Lori said this morning he probably has melanoma and doesn’t know it as being a carpenter he’s seen a lot of sun in his life. That’s what happened to her dad and they didn’t find it in his hair until it was too late. Ugh, prayers for Harry.

I worked out with a new trainer yesterday who is about the buffest, shortest, girl you’ll ever meet. She had some sort of heart scare a few months ago and was short on clients so I thought I’d giver her a try. She kicked my ass! From my shoulders to my glutes (ass) to my calves, I’m sore. It’s a good feeling to workout and be sore.

Ty and I might go to Denver tomorrow while Lori has her conference. I have a guy who works for me coming in from New York for the game Sunday. He has a buddy who has a few restaurants and he’s re-writing the wine list for him with a bunch of our stuff. I’m expensing my tickets and letting them go.

It’s 7:20 now and Ty still needs to shower and Jag is still in bed so time to get them both moving. Hope everyone is well. Lori goes to her mom’s next weekend and the boys have a 3 day weekend. We didn’t plan that very well. Dixie needs to either move out here or move into a place where she can get some help and have some friends. We know she’ll make friends wherever she is as she’s a friendly person! That’s it, God Bless.
