A Year of Change

Yesterday morning we were rushing around to get Ty off to camp. I woke up early and went to the gym to squeeze in a workout before the long drive to camp. Ty had most of his stuff laid out all over his room the night before but threw everything in his bags before going to bed. The only thing we were missing was a sleeping pad for his backpacking trip. After searching his closet and not finding it, I thought I’d check the mechanical room. That’s when everything started to go south.

I opened the door to find water everywhere! Our water heater had obviously died. I turned the water off at the valves going into the water heater and began to clean up. Of course cleaning up meant cleaning everything out of the room and sweeping all the water towards the drain. Of course we had 90 minutes to leave and I still needed to shower and find the sleeping pad. The pad turned up soon enough but then came the shower. I went upstairs and turned on the shower and voila, no water! Seems I need even the cold water going through the water heater to get water from the shower. So back down to the basement to turn on the water so it could leak some more so I could take a shower. I took about a 90 second shower that felt like the polar plunge and then ran back downstairs to turn off the water. Then of course this meant more cleaning up. Once I had soaked up as much water as I could with towels, sheets and whatever else I could find, I had to take Ty to camp.

We headed out well enough and decided to take the road over to Fairplay to avoid the heavy traffic on I-70 going back to Denver. As soon as we came over the Continental Divide we saw the smoke plume. Seems as there was a new fire that looked like some mushroom cloud from those nuclear tests we saw on tv when we were kids. It was southwest of us so we were ok but boy was it huge. 2 hours later we were at camp. Ty knew the drill as he was there last year. I checked him in, gave him a hug and headed for home. He did forget his pillow again just like last year! With the fire I decided to head towards Evergreen and catch I-70 heading back to Vail as there couldn’t be any traffic going up to the mountains on a Sunday, wrong!

After an hour I managed to hit I-70 just east of Idaho Springs. Traffic was stopped. There was every kind of camper, RV and vehicle you could imagine heading out of Denver like some mass exodus from a natural disaster. Most had firewood strapped on their cars too even though there’s a Statewide burn ban, nice. 2 hours later I was home. Jag had been with the dogs all day and was starving as he always is. We ordered him wings and I went to pick them up only to get home and find they gave him the wrong ones. So back to the bar I went to get him the right wings. Then I had to wash all the dishes with soap and cold water. The water works if you have a faucet with separate handles. If it has only one handle, like the showers, nothing comes out.

I did call the plumber yesterday and they’re supposed to call me first thing this morning. They think it’ll be between $2000 and $3000 dollars to fix. I’m just hoping they can fix it today as I’m off to Denver tomorrow to pick up Lori. Jag and I are thinking of checking into a hotel so we can shower today. We’ll see as we might just wash our hair in the kitchen sink.

Mojo woke me at 5:40 so I’m up waiting to call the plumbers at 7 to make sure I’m at the top of the list. I’ll take Harley to daycare to get her out of here for the day. There’s about 8 large black trash bags full of stuff from the flood outside. Hope all goes well today, Happy July, have a great day, GB.

Yesterday we managed to get Lori off t0 Sacramento on time and today I’ll drive another 4 hours getting Ty to camp and getting home. He’s gone from today until July 14th. As you probably remember, this is his second year at Windy Peak. This year he’s in the Leadership Program. His buddy Jack is going again too and a bunch of kids from last year are coming back as well. We’ll get there around 1 so I should be home by 4. Meanwhile Jag will hang with Mojo and Harley here at the house.

When I made it back from Denver we dropped Jag at The Four Seasons to get a haircut (that’s where our barber is) and then Ty and I went to the grocery store and bought some last minute toiletries and snacks for his care package. Parents can send a care package to the kids at camp if they want and last year I had to drive one down after he’d been there a week. This year I decided to just pack it up now and deliver it to camp when I drop him off and then the counselors can hold it for a week and give it to him halfway through. This save about $30 in postage or more in gas.

It was cooler yesterday but not what you’d call cool. I guess it was 105 in Sacramento. Lori says Dixie is doing well which is great news. With my Mom gone I’m all for Lori going to see her Mom as often as possible. I told Lori she needs to talk to Dixie and see if she wants to move out here next Spring when our house is hopefully done. It’d be helpful though if we know now. Lori says we’d need to put in an elevator. We’ll see.

I need to get to the gym so time to go. Jag went to the movies with Ethan last night at 7:30 and I picked him up a bit after 9:30. I then made him some french toast as he was starving. It’s July 1st, half the year is over, wow. Have a great day and God Bless.

6 am and we need to get moving. Lori is all packed and we both need to shower before heading out for the airport at 7:30 this morning. Jag and Ty will stay here with the dogs. Hopefully I’ll be back up by noon but I’m afraid there will be a ton of traffic from people trying to get out of town.

Yesterday I had a meeting with the Sheriff and Gail, who is the Assistant Fire Marshall for Eagle County. Another lady named Beth was there too. Gail started a foundation for Eagle County First Responders and Lori and I are helping them take it up a notch and start an annual benefit to take things to the next level. (we have years of experience with events and raising money and decided to help them since we live here now) We had a good meeting and will have some fun things coming up over the next few months and year.

Ty goes to camp tomorrow and then Jag and I will be alone until I leave on Tuesday to go get Lori. Jag will then be here for the 3rd and 4th. It’s cooler today which is a nice break. Hard to believe tomorrow is July. Soon it’ll be September and then Fall and Winter. Have a great weekend, take care and God Bless.

Thankfully today is Friday although with the weekend and week ahead, it doesn’t mean much. Tomorrow, on the so called busiest travel weekend of the year at our airport, Lori leaves. Then Sunday I need to drive Ty down to camp and then next week I pick up Lori on Tuesday and Jag starts work at the research institute on Thursday. Today is also the end of the month, wish I had a couple more days.

Thanks for the dog advice Ali. Last night Mojo didn’t pee, thankfully. We did take him out late, as we always do, and I also had Harley sleep upstairs, in her crate, with him. We think he likes this so we’ll probably continue this new arrangement.

I have a meeting with the Eagle County Sheriff today as we’re putting together a benefit event with them that will hopefully become an annual event and raise them some much needed money. It was like 93 degrees here yesterday and I guess 105 in Denver! In both places that’s hot. Luckily we have little to no humidity.

Jag went to the lake yesterday with his girlfriend while Ty was in town until around 1:30 when I picked him up on my way back up from Denver. That’s about it, time to go so Lori and I can make it to the gym before our day starts. It’s 5:48 now, GB.

Today I need to be in town by 10 am for a meeting. Then hopefully I’ll be back up here by around 1 or 2 at the latest. I was taking Ty but he decided to stay at Sonny’s last night. Today Jag is going to the lake with some friends to hang out. Should be fun and hot!

Lori has clinic as it’s Thursday and hopefully is not too late. Mojo has been peeing every night. I put a towel down last night and he peed there. Looks like we’re going to have to get a crate for him to start sleeping in as we can’t have him going in the house every night.

Big day in politics yesterday. Looks like Trump will get another Supreme Court pick. The Dems of course are calling for him to wait until after elections as they have no way of stopping his pick as years ago the Democratic Leader Harry Reid changed the rules and invoked a simple majority to push through one of their picks. They also argue Trump should wait until after the upcoming mid-terms but Justices Sotomeyor and Keegan were both confirmed right before mid-terms, hmmmm. My how the tables have turned. No way the Republicans will or should wait. Good news here is that Supreme Court Justices are elected for life so Trump needs to pick someone young. This is karma at its finest as the Dems did this to themselves when they changed the rules to push through one of their own, but of course now they want to cry foul. I don’t know why they’re so upset anyhow as Justice Kennedy who is retiring, was appointed by Ronald Reagan and was a conservative. And by the way, no way Roe v Wade will ever be overturned which of course the Dems will use as a scare tactic. Throw in a couple rulings by the high court yesterday that follow the Constitution that them Dems also hate and it was a good day for our Country. And the icing on the cake was the Dem that was supposed to take Nancy Pelosi’s place as Speaker of the House was beat by a 28 year old self described Socialist! Wow, this was a huge shocker no one saw coming. Funny how things in this World can change in a day.

Last night we had our final games until I think November, unless they have some in July in their other league. Both boys played well but we lost as our coach played everyone to get the whole team playing time rather than playing to win. When Jag and the other big guys (starters) were in, we were in the game but as soon as he put in a bunch of younger players, we quickly fell behind. At one point it was 31 to 30 and then all of a sudden 50 to 30! Anyhow it’s all about playing time as these games are all meaningless. Jag stayed and played a few extra games and coach dropped him off around 8:45. Ty came home earlier with me as Sonny was headed over to spend the night. Lori missed all the games as she had a deposition at the hospital. She’s not only a doctor but a lawyer too!

Ty and I ran down to Denver yesterday and are back down tomorrow but home today. We’re getting all his stuff together for camp this Sunday. It was hot in Denver, 100 degrees yesterday when we were down there. It was 90 up here but felt a bit cooler with the altitude. Lori’s neck and back is killing her but she’s off to the gym this morning and hopefully our trainer can stretch it out or something.

No politics today, I’m just thankful election day was yesterday as now all the ads will stop. I don’t understand why people don’t see that the Country is in about the best shape it’s been in years. People that hate Trump are so blinded by their hatred that they can’t see what’s happening all around them. Say what you want about the guy (I hate his tweets also) but the economy is booming, taxes are lower, useless regulations are being thrown out and our Country is stronger, all facts. Whoops, I said no politics today, gotta go, GB.

One of these days, or maybe years, I’ll get to sleep in. Everyone else in the family is except for me and the dogs. Today I’m off to Big D and then the boys have a game at 6 pm tonight.  I think Ty is going with me. They had practice last night and then Ty and Sonny went to the movies to see Jurassic World. Both boys are making huge improvements at basketball but Jag is becoming a real force on the court. He scored about 65% of his teams points in the scrimmage. Ty too looks like a different player. He’s just two years behind Jag.

Lori just came down. We both feel like we were hit by a truck. Must be allergies or something. Oh wait, we had sushi last night so it’s probably the soy sauce. Food is such a drug. Most people don’t realize it but everything we eat has a different impact on our bodies.

Ty and I went to see my buddy yesterday who owns a climbing store to get him some new hiking boots and a few pieces of other assorted gear for his trip coming up this Sunday. He’ll be gone for 2 weeks. For 5 days during the 2 weeks he’ll be on a backcountry backpacking trip. Camp’s not cheap but it’s a great thing for him. It’s his second year and he’s in the Leadership Program this year. He’s gone from July 1st to the 14th.

Before I go, here’s the Stupidity of the Day Award. Laura Ingalls WIlder, who wrote the Little House on the Prairie books and other literary masterpieces,  is having her name stripped from an award (that she already received) as someone now says she treated Native Americans in a racist way in her books. God help us, why don’t you liberals just erase all American history! Then you can start on the rest of the World. What in the hell is your problem? Mark my words, just like in some futuristic movie, someday all books will be either rewritten or destroyed as someone will come up with some reason why they are not politically correct. That’s why it’s called history! Idiotic, just idiotic.

Looks like it’ll be in the 90’s up here today and during the week. That means it’ll be really hot in the city. Lori has clinic today. Hope she makes the game tonight. Time to go, have a good day, GB.

Soon it will be July and then, well you know, Fall is just around the corner. Hard to believe.

Last night at 6:15 the boys made it home from Gunnison. Apparently there was a bad motorcycle crash and they were stopped for an hour waiting for an ambulance and helicopter to fly out the injured. They had a good trip and took 3rd in the tournament which was great! Today they have practice and then their last game at 6 tomorrow night. Then the school portion of basketball is over until October. Of course they have another league that starts back up in July.

Ty needs a physical today as he goes to camp for 2 weeks next Sunday. Lori leaves for Sacramento next Saturday and Harley goes into the doctors to get spayed next Monday. She’ll stay 3 nights as she can’t jump as she’d tear her stitches out. Mojo will go stay with her as Lori and I will be in Denver July 3rd and 4th, weather permitting.

Lori and I managed to clean up around here pretty well yesterday. I tackled the garage while she handled the basement (Jag’s room) and laundry room. She also made it in to Ty’s room too.

That’s right, we went to the movies again last night! This time to see Oceans 8 which is sort of a chick flick but I think better than Jurassic World. 2 in a row! Ali commented the last time they went to a movie was Forrest Gump!

The boys have a game at 10:30 and then at 1 and then should be home by 5. Seems like they’re having fun. Harley misses them bad.

Trying to stay away from politics but what the fuck is going on? First a group of “staged” protesters camp outside a Cabinet Members house and heckle her after heckling her in a restaurant and now the White House Spokesman and family are kicked out of a suburban Virginia restaurant! Most of this is very well choreographed as how would a small group of protesters find out the home address of a Cabinet Member of the U.S. Government? Obviously they had some help here. What everyone seems to forget is Obama actually DID put kids in cages while Trump has not, that is a fact! As far as the Virginia restaurant, I don’t care whether you’re a democrat or republican, what kind of person are you that kicks a family, a family with kids,  out of a restaurant over your political beliefs? Is that what we’ve really come to these days? If so, let’s just split up the Country now. Hillary won most of the West and East Coast States while republicans won the rest. So, give the dems the left and right coasts and give the rest of the people the rest, problem solved. Hell, we’ll even throw in Illinois. All those places have the highest unemployment, the highest taxes, the highest crime rates, are losing people in droves who are trying to move away and more. What a coincidence that they’re all democratic strongholds run by democrats. Then all you haters, Democrats, yes I said Democrats( the Democrats of today are far removed from the Democratic Party of JFK ) as if you honestly think back you never saw this kind of vitriol from Republicans when Obama was in office even though we all despised him just as much as some despise Trump, can go live and play in your make believe land where everything is free, there are no borders and no guns. Let’s see how that works out for you when some illegal who has been deported 5 times attacks and harms or kills someone in your family. I’m sure any Democrat won’t believe this but if so, then you too are not being honest. Sorry for the rant but it’s just so sad where our Country is headed. Tom yesterday when we were talking said how he fears it’s too late for the Country and sadly I pretty much agree with him. What’s next, another civil war? Hold on and get ready.

Tom just texted where’s the blog so I’ll stop now and head to the gym. I was late because I was so pissed off and had to rewrite this several times to tone it down. The boys took off at 7 am and played 3 games yesterday. They went 2 1nd 1 meaning they won 2 and lost 1. They’re rooming together and have a bunch of games today. Lori worked until a bit after 4 and I managed to mop the floors, clean the kitchen, do the laundry and wash our sheets, plus do all my work. Then we went to see the movie Jurassic World.

Lori pointed out it was the first time just she and I went to the movies since How The Grinch Stole Christmas in Seattle over 15 years ago! We had fun and decided we’d go to see more movies. Lori liked it and it was so so for me but fun to go.

This morning I’m off to Denver for some more cleaning at Mom’s. I had James cut back all the trees as they were overgrown in the driveway. He also needs to clean out the pvc pipe so the water from the ditch flows into the pond in the pasture. We’ve kept him on the payroll (Mom would be happy) since last September and some months he doesn’t do much. We’ll find some weeding or something for him to do plus he’ll be taking a lot of stuff to some donation place. We think he actually keeps some and sells it but we don’t really care, it just needs to go away.

It’s 6:15 and I should be on the road in 15 minutes and still have to shower so time to go. Have a great day, the boys are home tomorrow, GB.
