A Year of Change

Today both Lori and I are heading down the hill. We’re taking two cars as I’ll be down later  than her as I have an event in Boulder at 5:30. First up though is getting some Halloween decorations together at our house before we split up.

The boys both got their report cards yesterday and we’re happy to report they both did really really well. Jag had all A’s and Ty had A’s and B’s, no C’s! We’re really proud of them both. Ty because he had a rough year last year and Jag, as getting straight A’s at this school is no easy feat. We have parent student teacher conferences tomorrow. They should both be really proud of themselves.

Time to run as lots to do before we leave, my foot is still a little sore as it’s bruised where it was lanced, but good news is I’ll live. Have a great day and God Bless.

You can feel it in the air, winter is coming. Yesterday I took a quick trip to the city and was back up in heaven a little after noon. Ty’s stitches fell out so he had to go back to Mom’s office for a quick clean up and band aid. Meanwhile Jag had an upset stomach so he stayed home.

Today we have lots to do at work and at home. All the doctors in Lori’s office are off to Chicago for a conference so she gets a mini break. She calculated annual raises and bonuses for her team and then went to present her case to Dr.C and he agreed. Even though she’s only been here for 9 weeks she has a really good handle on the office and her team, including all the docs. You still might not get the gravity of her job but she is 100% in charge of everyone, docs, nurses, surgery schedulers and anyone else (IT, etc.) that comes into her office. You all should be really proud of her as she’s doing a fantastic job.

It’s 7 am and we slept in so time to run and get everyone moving. Before I go, please read below for the truth about gun control. Some people in our society get caught up in the moment (the media and lots of dems) and ignore the facts as if you look at hard facts, there is no evidence, I repeat, no evidence, that gun control accomplishes anything. In fact, it does exactly the opposite. Don’t believe me? Read on for yourself, unless you’re too close minded and just want to go along with the talking points that make some people feel better about themselves rather than addressing the real problem which is the lack of mental health care in our country. Its advocates are always short of any useful evidence.

President Obama’s intrusion into the mourning community of Roseburg, Oregon, in order to promote his political crusade for stronger gun control laws, is part of a pattern of his using various other sites of shooting rampages in the past to promote this long-standing crusade of the political left.

The zealotry of gun control advocates might make some sense if they had any serious evidence that more restrictive gun control laws actually reduce gun crimes. But they seldom even discuss the issue in terms of empirical evidence.

Saving lives is serious business. But claiming to be saving lives and refusing to deal with evidence is a farce. Nor is the Second Amendment or the National Rifle Association the real issue, despite how much the media and the intelligentsia focus on them.

If there is hard evidence that stronger gun control laws actually reduce gun crimes in general or reduce murders in particular, the Second Amendment can be repealed, as other Amendments have been repealed. Constitutional Amendments exist to serve the people. People do not exist to be sacrificed to Constitutional Amendments.

But if hard evidence shows that restrictions on gun ownership lead to more gun crimes, rather than less, then the National Rifle Association’s opposition to those restrictions makes sense, independently of the Second Amendment.

Since this all boils down to a question of hard evidence about plain facts, it is difficult to understand how gun control laws should have become such a heated and long-lasting controversy.
There is a huge amount of statistical evidence, just within the United States, since gun control laws are different in 50 different states and these laws have been changed over time in many of these states. There are mountains of data on what happens under restrictive laws and what happens when restrictions are lifted.

Chicago with the strictest gun control laws in the Country has the highest rate of murder and gun crime while states with the least control, have the least crime, period. These are the facts from our own government, not the NRA or the GOP. Yet those on the left or those who for political gain, still want to whip up their constituents by misleading people with words that are 100% false. Some reading this will still refuse to ignore the truth no matter what facts you present to them as they are brainwashed by their politicians and beliefs so they can no longer see facts no matter how clear they are.

Statistics on murder are among the most widely available statistics, and among the most accurate, since no one ignores a dead body. With so many facts available from so many places and times, why is gun control still a heated issue? The short answer is that most gun control zealots do not even discuss the issue in terms of hard facts.

The zealots act as if they just know — somehow — that bullets will be flying hither and yon if you allow ordinary people to have guns. Among the many facts this ignores is that gun sales were going up by the millions in late 20th century America, and the murder rate was going down at the same time.

Among the other facts that gun control zealots consistently ignore are data on how many lives are saved each year by a defensive use of guns. This seldom requires actually shooting. Just pointing a loaded gun at an assailant is usually enough to get him to back off, often in some haste.

There have been books and articles based on voluminous statistics, including statistics comparing gun laws and gun crime rates in different countries, such as Guns and Violence by Professor Joyce Lee Malcolm of George Mason University. Seldom do these factual studies back up what the gun control zealots are saying.

Why would an ultimately factual question about the consequences of gun control laws divide people along ideological lines? Only if at least one set of people were more devoted to their vision than to the facts.

This shows up when gun control zealots are asked whether whatever new law they propose would have prevented the shooting rampage that they are using as a stage from which to propose a new clampdown on gun ownership. Almost always, the new law being proposed would not have made the slightest difference. That too is part of the farce. A deadly farce.

So is the automatic assertion that whoever engaged in a shooting rampage was a madman. Yet these supposedly crazy shooters are usually rational enough to choose some “gun-free zone” for their murderous attacks. They seem more rational than gun control zealots who keep creating more “gun-free zones.”

Gun control zealots are almost always people who are lenient toward criminals, while they are determined to crack down on law-abiding citizens who want to be able to defend themselves and their loved ones.

Once you lose a right, it is virtually impossible to get it back! Think about it, and be honest with yourself!

5:10 am, Mojo is fed and the coffee’s on. In about 5 minutes I’ll hit the shower and then hopefully be on the road before 6 am. With luck I’ll miss the road construction that is eastbound on I-70. I need to go to the warehouse, the bank and a store or three and then should be out of town hopefully by noon.

Lori has clinic and will need to drop the boys at school on the way. Today is PJ Day meaning the kids get to wear pajama’s to school, what fun, I guess.

The democratic debate is tonight however I know of no one who will be watching. It seems things are all rigged, especially on the democratic side. I’ll leave you this morning with something to think about. Keep and open mind and read thoroughly, God Bless.

I have often wondered why it is that Conservatives are called the “right” and Liberals are called the “left”.

By chance I stumbled upon this verse in the Bible: Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NIV) – “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.”

Thus sayeth the Lord. Amen.

It surely can’t get any simpler than that.

I was just on the phone with my Mom who said she couldn’t find the blog today and well, that’s because we forgot to do it! I asked Lori to do it but she too must have been caught up in the morning madness.

In any case, The Bronco’s and Packer’s both won, that’s about all that matters from yesterday. Ty’s bday party he went to was great, Jagger went on a hike and Lori and I cooked and did laundry and kept preparing the house for winter. Today I worked out hard and will surely feel it tomorrow. I need to stop eating crap and get in shape once and for all.

I’m in Denver tomorrow until a bit before noon if all goes well and then Lori and I are both down, in separate cars, on Thursday. The boys start basketball today and Jag is supposed to start Nordic this week as well. That’s about it, hope all’s well and I’m a bit disappointed that no one called me to say the blog wasn’t up! It’s not like any of you have a life or anything to do, ha ha. God Bless

There’s an old saying that there is always two things you can count on, death and taxes. Well thankfully number two, taxes, are the one due this coming Thursday. As bad as they are, they sure beat death, right? Oh well, gotta keep the govt funded so they can keep wisely spending our money. (sarcasm of course)

Today Ty has a birthday party and I think Jag is going on a hike. Yesterday Ty was at his friend Sam’s house until a little after 4 pm. Meanwhile Jag went on a mountain bike ride and Lori and I hit Home Depot and the grocery store. I managed to get some 1 inch thick insulation up in the garage and we also put it up on the downstairs sliding glass door near Jag’s room. We don’t ever use that door anyhow and it’ll let a lot of cold in and heat escape. We then put up some thermal curtains on that door and over Jag’s windows in his bedroom. Then Lori cleaned up the basement and it’s now cleaner that it’s ever been.

Yesterday afternoon Auntie Kristin (from L.A.) interviewed Jag for a documentary she is making on kids views on our Country and politics. We let Jag do this in private so he’d be as candid as he wanted. It was centered around politics and issues like immigration, gun control, the economy, Presidential candidates, etc. After the call Lori called Kristin and she said Jag did amazing but did say that her and Jag are on opposite side of the spectrum politically on some issues. We were happy to hear this as most people in Los Angeles are pretty democratic, disconnected and brainwashed, in our opinion. Kristin said she needed some kids out side of Hollyweird as they all say the same thing, too funny. Kristin also said she was amazed how well of a grasp Jag had on all the candidates and the issues saying she had no clue about anything when she was 13. My how times have changed but then again Jag is smarter than a lot of people out there.

We’re supposed to go to Dr. C’s to watch the Bronco game today but will have to work around the kids schedule, what’s new. Jag is supposed to start with the Nordic Prep Team (dry land training)  this coming week but we still need to work out the finances with that. As I said earlier, we have taxes which are a bit higher than expected. Maybe our $2 lottery ticket is a winner!

I woke up to 65 degrees in the house so I just turned the heat on for the first time this year. It’s now 6:30 and everyone except me and you know who, is still asleep. Guess I’ll run so I can get back to Home Depot and buy a cover for the air conditioner as we won’t need that anymore until next summer.

Around 1 in the afternoon I managed to get into the foot doctor who quickly lanced my foot and put on a bandage and had me out the door in 15 minutes. I need to change up my workout routine so I don’t aggravate it again.

Today we have soccer at 9 and then we’ll do something fun as a family. Lori I think wants to go for a hike. Everyone is sleeping but Mojo and I’ll give them 20 more minutes before I wake them. This month we have Halloween, next Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Hold on as it’ll come fast. Guess I’ll run as I don’t have much else to say, have a good weekend, God Bless.

For those of you that don’t know, John Lennon was one of the Beatles. Just kidding, Harry is my long time friend since we were kids and both celebrate birthdays today.

It’s getting colder up here each morning. Today is another day of school and work but no driving down to Denver. Mojo is all pretty and white with his trip to the groomer and I put a bunch of extra old pillows in his bed which he loves. I’m going to a podiatrist today to have my foot fixed and that’s about it. Yesterday with early release, we decided to head down to Denver, again, to get Lori’s hair done and run a few other errands. I didn’t want to leave Mojo for 8 hours so I loaded him in the truck with Lori and Ty and off we went at 1 o’clock. About 30 minutes out of Denver it dawned on me to call the dog groomers and see if there was a chance to get Mojo in. Turns out they could squeeze him in, so Mojo was off to the groomers and Lori to the hairdresser. Ty and I ran down south of town and then back to where Lori was and we both also had our haircut. When we got back to the salon, Lori’s replacement at her old job showed up so Lori could help show her how to do the quarterly taxes. Nice of Lori to still do work, unpaid, for Dr. Rodgers. Meanwhile Jag was playing soccer across town and would end up beating us back up the hill.

On the way back up while talking to Ty, we found out that Jag won the student council election and is Chairman of the Middle School. I guess there was another girl running from Sweden that was close to him in votes so the Director of the Middle School decided to award her a few votes and the title of Co-Chairman but according to Ty, Jag really won the whole thing and is the Head Chairman. Ty also ran for a position but was beat out at the last minute by a girl that threw chocolate into the crowd. Damn, we didn’t think of that one! She must have been a democrat trying to win votes by giving away free stuff, ha ha. Both boys had to stand up in front of the entire middle school, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, and give a speech, good for them for both running.

Jag was up until 1:17 doing homework. How do we know? Well, he came up and woke us and let us know he was just finishing up. Next up, Mojo heard him and wanted out, twice. Then some guy outside was yelling at, according to Lori, either his dog or his woman, saying “get back in here right now”. So, not a good nights sleep. Throw in my left foot that hurt due to that cyst that I need to drain from working out and there you have it.

Time to run, guess everyone will go to bed early tonight, hope all’s well, God Bless.

Today is early release and Jagger and the rest of the 8th graders head to Denver to play Colorado Academy. They’ll probably get home around 9 pm or so. Meanwhile Ty and I will be here and Lori at work. Ty wants to go with his friend Warner into town after school but his right leg is pretty darn swollen. He’s doing really well in school, another A and B+ on two tests yesterday. Jag is pretty much straight A’s but Ty is right behind him with almost all A’s and a couple of B’s. This is a big step up for him!

I took some wine into the doctor that stitched Ty up yesterday to thank him. He was really appreciative. I did get the sprinklers blown out yesterday in Denver and brought up another load of stuff from the basement. I saw my Mom briefly and stopped at Walgreens to pick up a prescription. I was luckily back in Vail by noon. There were signs saying 45 minute delays due to construction but for some reason I breezed right through. No snow yet here at the house but the peaks are getting dusted every night. So, it’s not far away, time to get ready. I need to run as we slept in and the kids need to go to school in an hour. Yesterday I thought soccer would get cancelled due to some rain but it was game on. Jag forgot his shoes which I brought but then was told her couldn’t practice without shorts, which I forgot. So he and I took off to the grocery store. Upon leaving the grocery store I got a call from the coach and apparently Ty while playing, ran into a metal bleacher and cut his leg above the knee. The coach said he probably needs some stitches so off we went to pick him up and head to the hospital. I called ahead and luckily one of the PA’s on the 3rd floor (where Lori’s office is) said bring him right up. 20 minutes later Ty was stitched up and good to go. Eric in Lori’s office said this would have cost $2000 downstairs in emergency so we lucked out. At least we have pretty much free medical care for bumps, cuts and bruises and general boo boo’s through the clinic.

Once we arrived home and the lidocaine wore off, the little guys leg started hurting a bit. I’m off to Denver in 30 minutes at 6 am to have our sprinklers blown out and then will head right back up this hill. So time to run, hope all’s well, take care and God Bless.
