De-Christmas

Big game today. Hope we win. Yesterday we hung out around the house after the gym. I did run up valley a couple of times for some errands. Our neighbors, Brian and Michelle, are moving to Ft. Collins. The movers come on the 1oth. They called us and asked if we wanted anything as Michelle is switching up her style from mountain contemporary to something else. We don’t really need to accumulate anymore stuff, but their stuff is all high end and a lot of it is custom made. We ended up getting a new, unused memory foam bed for the basement, two different sets of bar stools, two matching coffee/end tables and this really nice table that goes behind a couch or something. If we don’t end up using some of it, we’ll easily be able to give it away.

Ty’s off this morning to Denver for the game. After the gym, we’ll drop off the ski medallions at Gerry’s caretaker’s house. It’s at the beginning of the driveway going up to their house.

Lori took the tree down yesterday, so we are officially done with Christmas for around 300 days. After she had all the ornaments off, I took the tree apart and boxed it up in the garage. The house is nice and clean now, ready for 2025 and Springtime.

Just a dusting of snow outside, nothing much. 7:15am now, time to get moving. Make it a great day and please, please, let’s have a big Broncos win! God Bless.

Pilates

Lori loved her first Pilates session with Sarah. Brent, my trainer, bought the gym from Dan who should have never bought it a few years ago from my previous trainer Rod. Anyhow, Brent bought a reformer (Pilates trainer) and hired Sarah who is a certified Pilates instructor. I’m sure no one cares but I’m putting it in here as it was part of the day. Lori is sore and she rarely gets sore. Enough said.

Ty stayed here at home last night and is going to the big game tomorrow. Sure hope we win. Last night after having a cigar with Mark, Lori and I drove up to Eagle Vail to meet Penelope’s family. She and Brian and the family are having a blast. It’s been nice and the skiing is great. they met on E Harmony, and they seem like a good fit for each other.

Snow is on the way. I hope it doesn’t impact Ty’s trip down and up the mountain. Lori and I are content watching the big game from the comfort of our living room.

That’s it, time to get to the gym and get after it. Have a nice Saturday and Go Broncos and God Bless.

Dinner

Last night was a nice relaxing dinner with just Marcy, Gerry, Lori and me. They fly out this afternoon to their home in Boca Raton. Marcy loaded us up with anything we wanted from her fridge since they’re leaving until at least April. They’ve been bugging us to come down forever so this year we’ll probably go. You can fly direct from Eagle to Miami which makes things easier. They’re so nice and we’ve known them for I think 20 years. During dinner Ty called as we were trying to see if he could get Brian a Buddy Pass with his ski pass to help offset the $309 a day lift ticket charge. Gerry overheard me and said, “I have two Medallions, use those”. Medallions are passes that get you a free lift ticket at any Vail Resort property, anytime, any day! These are impossible to come by, but Gerry and Marcy donate a few million each year to the Vail Valley Foundation, so they get two each year given to them. Lucky Brian, as this will save him over $1200 today and tomorrow in lift tickets.

We’re off to the gym in 20 minutes for Pilates and weight training. I think I have a stress fracture in my left foot and might need an x-ray today. This afternoon, we’re going to see Brian and Penelope for a few after they’re done skiing. After the gym this morning, they’re meeting us at Hovey to get the Medallions from us.

Lori worked until around 11:30am at the hospital yesterday and then we rushed home to let Carmen in so she could clean the house.

That’s about it, time to get moving. Have a great 3rd day of 2025 and God Bless.

Let’s Go!

The party is over. Time to dive in head on. Today we’re all in. We’re excited about 2025 and the opportunities it brings. The playing field is more dangerous than it’s ever been, but we have a plan. Politics, division, unknown challenges, (anyone seen the mysterious so-called fog Worldwide?), disease and uncertainty are everywhere, but we feel as prepared as we can be. Time to stay healthy, take calculated risks, and circle the wagons. And so it begins.

Yesterday we hit the gym, as you’ll see below. Then we spent the day around the house working a bit. Brian and Penelope arrived from Phoenix yesterday and went straight to Gorsuch where Davy hooked them up with their ski gear at no charge. We’ll see them tomorrow. Tonight is dinner at Gerry and Marci’s. Ty strolled in around 11pm and is sleeping right now.

With Lori’s car in the shop, I’ll take her to work as she has some work to do on the research projects at the hospital to get ahead of things. Research is an entirely separate thing from her job that she also oversees. Big companies, like those that make implants and stuff used in procedures, pay thousands on clinical trials and our smart lovely Lori is also the head of all that, in her spare time, ha.

Then, I’ll hit the gym. We’re on a mission to step up our game and get ripped. We thought about doing a blog for people in their 60’s, bwaaahhh. (That’s a joke)

Time to get moving, make it a great day. Go get out there and take on the World! It’s waiting for you! God Bless.

2025, Happy New Year!

What a year, what a day, what a night and what a morning. We all know the new year brings a chance for us to start over, be reborn, or change something, or everything in our lives. In reality, it’s just another day, but psychologically, we’re conditioned to believe that it means something more. Who knows, maybe it does. Personally, I think if you really believe something in your mind, you can make it come true. In any case, it’s a chance for a new beginning, so let’s begin!

It’s beautiful outside this morning. Pink skies are resting over the snowcapped mountains surrounding the house. Before we throw away 2024, here’s a pic of the last sunrise of last year.

Yesterday went by fast. We ended up getting out of the house, for what we thought was our eight-person party, about 6:30pm. When we arrived at Gary and Jennifers, (yes, his name is Gary as I thought, more on that later), cars lined the road. At first, we thought we had the wrong house, but no, it was the right place. We walked down their icy driveway, Lori in 5-inch heels and all, to the front door. We knew there were way more than the eight of us for dinner. Apparently, word got out, and the party ballooned into 40 or 50 people. They had it catered, had live music and lots of people. We were first to arrive of our three couples. James and Addy showed up a few minutes after us and then Ben and Eleni a few minutes later. Jennifer is so sweet. She’s like 37 and Gary must be 55 to 60 or older. He met and picked her up in DIA (Denver International Airport) and married her, ha. Funny how people meet. She is in remission from cervical cancer and I’m not sure who all knows someone who has been touched by cancer, or for that matter, anything that makes you question your mortality, but it changes you, usually for the better. Her appreciation for life flows out of her and is infectious to everyone around her. You don’t wish anything bad on anyone, but the change in people who thought they might die, is remarkable. To be fair, she was always super sweet. Gary is a really good guy too. I met him a couple years ago at a party at Ben’s and knew his name was Gary, but James told me the other day his name was Greg. I even called him out then, saying, “no man, I think you’re wrong”. He was sure though that it was Greg. Wrong! I figured it out on the way to the party, thankfully, and told James as we were hanging outside having a cigar, “dude, his name is Gary”! He replied, in his own confused way, “oh yea, that’s right, I always get those two names mixed up”. Funny but no harm done. That kind of thing happens to he and I a lot, and yes, I’m almost always right!

We all had a blast hanging out together until 10 when the East Coast turned 2025 years old. Most people we didn’t know, but everyone was really nice to us. Before we left, Jennifer and Gary wanted a picture with James, Addy, Lori, me and Ben and Eleni. Some guy took 4 or 5 pictures of our group standing in front of their fireplace while everyone was staring at us. I’m sure it was because of James, but everyone was wondering who we all were and why the impromptu photo shoot. Now I hate having my picture taken and must have had 20 or 25 photos taken of me last night. It’s either because Eleni is a photo nut with her phone or because James and I are hanging together, and someone takes his picture, and I happen to be in it like I’m a lamp or something. I’m used to those kinds of pics with him, just hate having to pose for photos. Oh well, someday the kids can laugh at me. Most pics she took turned out like crap, but I’ll post one below so you can see us all. We all look horrible and are not even looking at the camera, but it is what it is.

The deer are outside eating bird seed right now. I think this morning we’ll head to the gym and then just hang out around the house. James, Addy, and/or Eleni might come over for tamales and to watch some football. Ben might try to go skiing as they leave the 3rd to go back to Palm Desert. Brian, my Partner, and Penelope, his girlfriend, arrive this afternoon in Denver and are driving up. Davy is hooking them up with their rental gear (skis and boots) so I might run into town to meet him around 6. If not, we’ll see them in the next few days.

Tomorrow night, ugh, we have dinner and Gerry and Marci’s. Obviously, we’re pretty busy. Jag and Ava come back next Monday or Tuesday. The Stock Show starts soon in Denver too! I want to go this year as I missed it the last couple years. Who doesn’t love a good rodeo!

Well, that’s it. Happy New Year to you all. Now go reinvent yourself or just sit back and be thankful for being here in the year 2025! Many are gone and if you do one thing this year, don’t take life for granted. Time to get moving, let’s go! God Bless.

Here we go

Last day of 2024, surreal isn’t it. Lori and I were reminiscing about New Years Eve 1999. She was 35 and I 43. Man, we have great memories of that night and everything in between.

Tonight we’re going with James, Addy, and Ben and Eleni to Jennifer and Greg’s house in Arrowhead. I don’t know Greg well, but the girls all hang out together. Dinner is at 7.

Yesterday Lori worked in Vail at the hospital all day. I did some computer work and some work around the house. I also made a trip to pick up another 4 dozen tamales before Ramona goes to Mexico to visit her mom for a month. Neither she or her husband speak much, if any, English, but we get by. They’re always very thankful we buy them from them. Funny as we think we’re getting the better end of the bargain as these tamales are the best we’ve ever had and they’re $2 a piece!

We’re off to Glenwood to drop Lori’s car to get repaired in about 30 minutes. I forgot to take it down yesterday. We should get it back a week from today.

I did an hour on the treadmill yesterday. That was tough. Not so much the actual workout, I just get bored on treadmills. Funny as a whole hour at an incline burns only about 425 calories and one piece of birthday cake is probably twice that! When I think about it that way, I’m not sure I want to eat anything bad knowing how long I have to workout to get rid of it.

Time to get moving. Have a great day and night. We hope to be home around 10pm. We hope to be sound asleep by midnight. Be safe and see you on the other side. 2025, sounds like some futuristic si-fi movie! God Bless.

Great Birthday

Thanks all for the birthday wishes and presents! Much appreciated.

Last night, after prepping most of the day, Davy, Abby, Marty and Mel, Ben and Eleni and Castor, James’s son, came over for my mini birthday party. James had to go to Summit County as Addy committed to something for them a few weeks ago. Castor was up at Davy’s doing something with drums, (he’s a drummer in his own band as you should remember), so I texted him and told him to come on over and hang with us. He was super excited to join us as his mom and two sisters are in Argentina. I sent him home with a bunch of extra ribs. We know each other really well from when he was in school with the boys and then from when he’d go hunting with us.

The party was so much fun. I think with less people than our cigar party, everyone got to hang out and tell more stories and laugh more. The food was amazing and so was Lori’s homemade German Chocolate Cake with homemade Butter Brickle Ice Cream. She even made the butter brickle that went into the ice cream, (some kind of toffee) from scratch. I am a very very lucky guy.

Earlier in the day, around 1:30, I ran Jagger over to Eagle Airport for his flight to Orange County. He said he’d change it and stay for the party, but it costs three times as much to fly today, so I told him that was silly and to go. He and Castor are buddies as they were one year apart in school and played basketball and volleyball together throughout high school. Ty worked really late and was going to come over but was super tired, so I told him it was no big deal if he wanted to go get some rest. Besides, we celebrated the night before as a family.

Lori has a few high rollers coming in today who flew in from Mexico for surgery. Then she has a lunch with the daughter of another surgeon Dr. Braxton knows that she might hire for her team. She’s from somewhere but her dad has a house in Breckenridge. Ty is working today, and Jag will probably be on the beach later today. Vail Pass is closed right now but we don’t have any new snow down here, maybe just a dusting on our windshields.

Here’s a few pics. Ben and Eleni and me, and then our group with Abby and Davy on the far right and Castor next to me with Marty and Melanie in the middle above Eleni who is crouching down. Ben’s dad was the Ambassador to Denmark and South Africa and one of the founders of Vail. He met Eleni through our group 5 years or so ago. They’re a really good fit for each other. I’m really lucky to have such great friends.

Have a great day and get ready for 2025! Won’t be long now, God Bless.

Happy Birthday to Doug!

Happy 68th Birthday, Doug!

What a milestone today is! My sweet husband turns 68—wow, time flies! We had a lovely start with a simple dinner last night with Jagger and Ty. Nothing fancy, just a cozy meal of wedge salads with chili. It’s always so nice to have the boys around, especially on a special day like today.

Of course, Doug was hoping for a birthday miracle with the Broncos and Buffs, but unfortunately, neither team gave him the win he was hoping for. There’s still hope, though—he’s holding out for the Broncos’ last chance against Kansas City (and the referees, of course). We’ll see what happens!

Today, we’ll be saying see you in a week to Jagger, who’s heading off to California at 3 p.m. to spend time with Ava and her family for New Years. We’ll drop him off at the Eagle Airport around 2:30 for his flight.

Tonight, the celebration continues…Marty and Melanie, Davy and Abbey, and Ben and Eleni will all join us for a bigger dinner to celebrate Doug’s big day. I’m cooking ribs, filets, potato krack (Doug’s favorite), green beans, and a fresh salad. For dessert, we’ll have German chocolate cake with either homemade butter brickle ice cream or vanilla. Hopefully, it’s going to be a delicious evening!

Of course, Ty will be back by to celebrate his dad as well. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful family.

We are all so grateful for your kindness, strength, and love. You make our lives better in every way, and I feel so lucky to spend my life with you. Here’s a picture of a 1-year-old Doug—how adorable is he?

If you talk to Doug today, please wish him a very happy birthday! We love you so much, sweetheart. Here’s to many more years of happiness, health, and love. XOXO L

Trash Day

Annette texted asking what happened to the blog today! Well, it’s trash and recycling day, so I’ve been busy. Not only did I have to deal with all our Christmas and Cigar Party stuff, but I had the neighbors, who are in California, trash too. When I went down to their house and opened the garage, there were over a dozen bags of thawing food strewn all over their garage. The cleaners cleaned out their fridge and freezer and threw away all the expired food. We think the cleaners also threw some of their own stuff away. Anyway, I had to bag up all their crap and put that out, as well as ours. Then we rushed off to the gym before doing today’s post.

Yesterday Lori and I ran up to Edwards and then Costco and City Market for stuff for my b-day dinner tomorrow. James texted he was headed to Eagle and asked if I wanted to meet him at the new Gentlemens Barbershop for a cigar. He was getting a haircut and said they have a patio where we can hang out. The place is new, as the husband-and-wife team moved down here from Edwards. Really nice couple, and I had no idea it was there. We hung out for an hour and caught up on all kinds of shit as we don’t get as much one-on-one time as we used too before he met Addy. It gave us some time to talk about crap we wouldn’t talk about in front of the cigar group or wives, ha.

Then it was off to home. Lori made chili which was great. We have two big games today. The Broncos at 2:30 and CU at 5:30. I need to run to Costco for some ribs that Alex (the meat dept manager), is cutting up for me for tomorrow. It’s hard to get beef ribs anywhere.

No new snow since I shoveled yesterday morning at 7. Lori is making homemade butter brickle ice cream right now. Not sure how she does it but I’m sure it’ll be great. Ty is slammed at work. Yesterday was super busy too. Some regular customer came in, and brought Ty a card with $50, that said how much they appreciate his smiling face and friendship whenever they come in. That happens to him all the time! He’s a great kid that everyone loves. And he knows everyone, everywhere!

That’s it, Jag is still in bed. All I want for my birthday is a Bronco win and if possible, a CU win too! Time for the Costco run. Have a great day, GB, and Go Broncos!

Fun time

We made it to Tom’s around 10:45. He and Holly had a great Christmas, so it seems. We hung out and visited for a few hours and opened some gifts before heading home. On the way home, Davy called and said he was at the shop and to come in and exchange Lori’s coat. With traffic, we made it there by 3.

I had bought Lori the black Moncler puffy jacket with the fur collar. These coats are not cheap (Davy really took care of me), but are one of the coolest jackets out there, and women love them! When we arrived, she tried on an extra small, but it was too small. Alexandra, who works for Davy and has helped us out before, had her try on an ivory colored one with a brown fur collar. It looked much better than the black one (which everyone has) and so she decided to get that one. Little did I know it was $300ish dollar more, ha. Lori loves it though, so all good.

We made it home and I turned around and headed back to the cabin to meet up with James, Andres, Clark, Mark and Ken for a cigar and to watch some football. Fun time with the guys.

This morning, about 30 minutes ago, Ty frantically called as someone put a boot on the wheel of his truck. We don’t know why as he has a parking permit so we’ll fight it, but he had to pay $140 to get it off so he could get to work. We had more snow last night and more is on the way today. Not much though, by our standards.

Jag is sleeping right now. He flies out of Eagle at 1 on the 29th for California. He and Ava will get back I think the 6th or the 7th.

That’s it for today. Lots of football tomorrow. Hope the Broncos and Buffs both get it done. Have a great day. With Christmas on a Wednesday, the days seem all mixed up. Yesterday felt like a Saturday and I don’t know what today feels like, maybe a Monday, ha. Be well, stay safe and God Bless.
