The Gold Rush

Today is the annual 5K run for the school. Ty is for sure running but Jag has a sore foot and has a baseball game at 3pm so he might not participate. Yesterday Lori somehow managed to clean most of the house, and all while having a headache. I did some computer work with a co-worker for 2 hours and then helped by staying out of her way, ha ha.

Ty had his friend Jack over who also spent the night and Jagger and his friend Michael went to Jump Street which is a trampoline place at the mall.

On top of that, the Bronco’s play this morning at 11am so it’ll be a busy day with the run, the game (football) and then Jag’s baseball game plus he and I might go to church while Mom takes Ty and Jack to the run.

I just saw the wife carrying race on tv and think I might be able to do pretty well at that. Maybe I’ll throw Lori on my back and start running around the neighborhood to practice, that should get some looks.

Jagger has also been riding his motorcycle up and down the street a bunch and weather permitting, I’m sure will ride more today.

That’s it, take care and God Bless.

Weekend are too short!

It’s Saturday already and soon it’ll be Monday, weekends are too short. Today I have some computer work and Lori needs to go to a furniture store for her work. Prior to that, we have some things to do around the house.

Last night Jagger went to school where they put on a movie night for the kids. The movie was Ghostbusters which I’m sure they’ve all seen but that’s not the point, it’s just a safe place for all the kids to get together which is nice. They have an intermission so they all get to hang out also. Meanwhile Ty was skateboarding and rollerblading outside after school.

Fall is here as the leaves are dropping and it’s getting cool outside. We’re still bombarded with political ads. Yesterday the Denver Post endorsed the republican senate candidate saying the democrat (who is the incumbent) has been running a one issue campaign that is 100% full of lies and blatantly false. Every single ad the dem runs accuses the challenger of wanting to take away women’s rights to birth control when in fact, the republican guy supports over the counter birth control for women. I can’t believe the paper had the courage to tell the truth as they’re kind of left leaning. Guess I won’t cancel my subscription after all. Oh well, there’s so much mud slinging these days that the uninformed person can’t tell what’s true and what’s not. That’s what they’re (especially the dems) are counting on, that you believe their 30 second ads full of lies. No matter which side you’re on, you have to admit that what we have now isn’t working so might as well give the other side the ball.

Ok, time to stop now, I’m trying to stay away from all this crap. You’re all on your own now as I’m through giving advice. Hope all’s well, take care and God Bless.

Cool with rain

It took until 3 in the afternoon or so but it finally started raining. The temp dropped as well as fall and/or winter is upon us. I have lots of computer work to do today after I get my haircut at 9am and then run a couple of errands up north. Lori had a long day, as usual, and strolled in around 6pm. I made chili for dinner which is always a good comfort meal when it’s cool outside.

Not sure what we’re doing this weekend. I’m not sure what time Jag’s baseball game on Sunday is either. Hopefully Lori will get home earlier tonight. She’s had a headache for a few days now but it’s not her neck. Maybe someone at the office is wearing perfume. Our new bed is freakin great! We both can’t wait to get into it each night, it’s so comfortable.

That’s it people, get it together for the weekend and for life! Take care and God Bless.

Here and there

Yesterday I was downtown twice for an industry (wine) tasting as well as a third time for a quick meeting. Before that I took our car in again only to get a call from the dealer telling me they’re flying in 4 new rotors from Detroit to fix our car once and for all in a few days. We were beginning to think we were crazy but no, we were right all along. I asked what about all the other people in Denver that own suburbans and my service advisor kind of shrugged his shoulders.

Today it’s going to rain and cooler temperatures will come along for the ride. I have lots of office work for the next two days and Lori has her usual 12 hours worth of work to finish in 8. Jagger is up but Ty’s still out. Lori is sitting here next to me drinking her coffee.

I guess Bob is doing fine. Lori said he stopped with pain medication as he doesn’t like being “out of it”, which I understand. She’s going to try to go out again in a few weeks but we’ll have to see what’s going on with this ebola thing and just how many people come down with it in the next few weeks. I’m supposed to go to Texas for a meeting but might put that on hold also. This is nothing to mess around with and we really don’t know the whole story, what a mess. If things get worse, we’ll have to drive, maybe to both places.

So that’s about it, we’re looking forward to Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas instead of all this crap on tv everyday. We also can’t wait for election day so all the ads will finally stop. Both sides lie lie lie, you can’t tell what’s true anymore from either of them.

Hope all’s well, take care, wash your hands, keep your powder dry and watch your top knot! God Bless.

Mr Ty is fast!

Before I get into the track meet, it’s now 4:40 in the morning and Jag’s alarm just went off so we could get up to see the lunar eclipse. It peaked around 5:05am with the moon all red from being lined up with the sun. Pretty amazing. What if it were in the 1800’s and you looked up and saw this, you might get a little freaked out! Anyhow Jag and I are now up but Mom, who can sleep through anything, ran back upstairs to bed.

Ok, now here’s a comment from Eleanor,

Eleanor Tafoya says:

Doug! Yesterday I get a letter from Calpers, stating that the Sacramento City Unified School District filed a resolution to terminate their contract with Calpers as of January 01, 2015 , my health coverage will terminate then, what is going on ? You too . Nothing is guaranteed in this world. I hope the school district has new insurance for us retires, I am going to question my concerns to the school district, as for you I am sorry to hear about your insurance . We have to leave this up to The Lord , all things come together for the good.

I guess Calpers is some sort of State insurance program or something. I wouldn’t worry too much though Eleanor as California has a habit (just like the govt) of spending money they don’t have. I’m sure they’ll figure something out.

Now to the meet, I sat there until around noon before Ty had his first race, the 200 meter run. They started on the opposite side of the stadium and by the time they rounded the turn, Ty was in 2nd place! The kid ahead of him was from some other school and really fast, but Ty came in 2nd! They announced his name over the stadium loudspeaker when they told the crowd the results. He came in 3rd in the discuss and his relay team was also 3rd. The school came in either 1st or 2nd for the meet, all in all, a good day.

I rushed home after his race and got to work. Meanwhile Lori had a crazy day full of crazy patients at work. I managed to get my stuff done and then cleaned the house and baked some chicken for dinner. I also took the boys to the doctor for their flu shots. The only one left is Lori who can get one at work, downstairs at the hospital.

Today our suburban goes in for the 5th time to have the rotors replaced. My buddy who is the general manager said he’ll go talk to the service manager as this is getting ridiculous. It’s all under warranty but a pain to keep taking the car in.

My foot is a little better but still sore. The older you get, the longer it takes to bounce back. I need to get to the gym this morning for sure.

Guess that’s it, time to run, hope everyone is well, take care and God Bless.

p.s. wash your hands!

The track meet

Today Mr Ty, who is one of the fastest kids in his grade, has a track meet at Jefferson County Stadium against kids from all over the state. It’s from 9am until 1pm. We don’t know when he races so we just have to show up and wait. I’m hoping once we get there we’ll know when his events are. I just can’t stay all day and Lori will have to run over for an event or two around lunch.

Yesterday Ty went to Vinny’s after school until about 5:30. The kids rooms, miraculously, are still clean. It’s 6:19 now and Lori, Jagger and I are up. Yesterday she tried to call her dad but he couldn’t hear her. I guess the phone was on speaker as when she was yelling out “dad”, the guy in the bed next to him kept answering, this isn’t my phone. She then yelled for Bob and I think the guy kept answering still! Anyhow she finally had to hang up, she could hear him answering everyone else, the guy next to him and the nurse, but not her. Oh well, she’ll try again today.

Lori just stood up to go outside and get the paper for me (what a great wife) and she bent way over as she has a sciatic nerve that’s been killing her. I thanked her for giving me some fresh material for today’s post. My right foot was swollen all night and I could barely walk on it as I tried in vain to start Jagger’s motorcycle about 40 times yesterday and must have strained my foot. it felt last night like it was freakin broken! Hopefully it’ll be better today.

I think we’re losing our medical insurance December 1st as it is scheduled to go up 67% to $215,000 for the Company which we just don’t have. F_cking Obumer Care! Thanks a lot Mr President. Not sure what we’ll do personally or what our employees will do as we’ve always provided health insurance. We’ll try to get on with Lori’s works insurance if we can’t figure something out at our job but we’re trying to see what we can do now. Of course our family and one other at work whose wife has M.S., are the most expensive to insure due to all our medical issues. But thankfully we have, or had insurance. Hopefully we are all through with medical stuff. If anyone else in our family is going to get sick, they need to do it in the next 6 weeks!

Well that’s it people. There’s a full lunar eclipse tomorrow morning at 4:55am. Lucky for me I’m usually up at that time! Take care, wash your freakin hands often and God Bless.

Clean rooms

When we arrived home a bit after 11am, I ran to get some food for dinner and Lori viciously attacked Mr. Ty’s room. 4 hours later or maybe 5, it was spotless! Hopefully he will keep it that way. Meanwhile the Bronco’s were kicking the butts of the Arizona Cardinals and Jag cleaned his room. Ty’s was beyond any kid helping as too much stuff needed to be separated and thrown away. The 49rs also won, Lori called to make sure that her dad had the tv on.

This week is a mess once again. Tomorrow Ty has a track meet from 9 until 1 at Jeffco Stadium, Wednesday I have an industry tasting from 2 until 6 and Lori just said we need to get our Halloween decorations out. They also just flashed on the news that an inmate escaped from the Jeffco Jail which is a few miles away. Apparently he’s not a very good guy and they’re canvasing the neighborhoods as I write.

Ty seems to be feeling better but his cold was a doozy. That enterovirus that’s going around killed a few adults as well. If it’s not one thing, it’s another, whatever happened to the good old days. Everyone needs to wash their hands so much that you need to carry some hand lotion because they’re so dry from all the washing. I mean this, don’t take any chances.

In fact, so many people are ill that Jagger’s baseball team had to forfeit yesterdays game as we had too many sick kids that didn’t show up.

Well I guess that’s it for today. Hard to believe it’s almost mid October, snow and the holidays will be here soon. Hope everyone is well, take care and God Bless.

Fresh air

The air in the mountains is just different. There’s nothing like it anywhere. I suppose you could say the same about the salt air at the coast or ocean. But in the mountains, there’s much less oxygen in it and you’re above all the pollution so it just feels crisper and cleaner. It’s like your body is regenerated with every breath you take in. Throw in the views, the cool temperatures and a whole lot less people and it’s a good place to be! Mojo loves it, the walks up and down the hills and the cool air suits him just fine.

Uncle T posted about the door, first off, they needed to sand it earlier in the week and second, we don’t get to choose the color. It ended up a burgundy color to go with the sort of creme color building. Lori says the door reminds her of Christmas which will be here in, let’s see, just about 80 days, give or take a day.

During the day I headed to Costco to meet the manager of the liquor store which has turned into quite a good customer. They’re flying through this one wine of ours and hopefully soon will carry some more. Then we stopped by the Octoberfest celebration at the Sonnenalp Hotel which is one of the nicer hotels and spas in downtown Vail. They had a beer garden set up with a real german band and tons of old Germans, most in their 60’s to 80’s partying, drinking and dancing all in their authentic german clothes. You could tell these people were really from Germany as the clothes could have only came from there and they looked quite well used as if they owned them for years. They all sang along and held up their beer steins and swayed their glasses back and forth in unison all while singing along with the band. It looked like it was straight out of a movie. My buddy Rick begged us to come down as he took his Mom there to get her out of the house, so we did. His 84 year old Mom, who we know quite well from over the years, from New Jersey, is German and was out there dancing with the best of them. The only song I recognized was the chicken dance. You should have seen all the old people out there shaking their hind ends dancing away. It looked like a scene right out of the Sound of Music with everyone in their bavarian garb, women in dresses and pigtails in their hair and the men in long like lederhosen pants, some with their alpine hats. The food too was authentic and really good, pretzels with sweet mustard and real German bratwurst that I think were boiled, not grilled, with sauerkraut. We didn’t stay long but it sure was fun.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, (we left the boys) the door was getting put back on (it took 3 or 4 hours to dry) and they were playing some sort of game. I brought them some pretzels and sausages which they devoured.

Today Jag has baseball right in the middle of the Bronco game, again. He’s a little under the weather but his brother is coming back and feeling better, that’s the way it goes around here. One gets it, gets better, but not before passing it on to the next person. It’s like some sort of sick (no pun intended) game! Speaking of the Bronco’s, sure hope we win and we’re also cheering for the 49rs.

Hard to believe the weekend is over, where does the time go. I don’t know about you but it seems the older you get, the faster life goes!

Hope all’s well with everyone, take care, WASH YOUR HANDS, and God Bless.

The day flew by

Well Friday was a blur, it started fast and before we knew it, it was over! Ty was home one more day but seemed to be doing better by the evening. My sales meeting went well and Lori was busy busy at work. Jagger had a good day at school as usual and that was about it.

Today we’re getting the front door painted and maybe going for a hike. We’ll see how Ty is feeling after he gets up. Hopefully he’ll be better. We kept him home because of that virus that’s sweeping the Country and the docs don’t know how to stop it. Turns out two adults died from it at Lutheran Hospital which is like 2 miles from us where both boys were born! Good golly miss molly, not cool. Wash your hands often and use soap and water. (Apparently the hand sanitizer doesn’t work as well as good old soap and water.)

How’s everybody else doing? We heard from Annette and Eleanor but that’s about it. I stopped in to see my Mom who’s doing fine. Hope Bob is doing well along with the rest of you. Winter’s coming on quick, I think it’ll snow before the end of the month. Not sure what the forecast is for California but did hear you all outlawed plastic bags! Also understand that when this was done in San Francisco, 6 adults died from germs on the cloth bags because they never got cleaned and harbor germs longer. Being so politically correct is going to be the end of us if we keep this crap up. I’m starting to drift so I’ll sign off now. Think we’ll run to Costco for some stuff. Take care and God Bless and wash your hands!

The weekend approaches

Well yesterday was a normal day until 11am when I received a call from Ty’s school saying he was in the clinic not feeling well. I jumped in the truck and went to pick him up. When I arrived he said he had an ear ache which was a signal for me to call the doctor. So I sat in the school parking lot and called the doc from my cell phone. Maria, who we’ve known for years, squeezed me in as soon as I could get there. Turns out he had a raging ear infection and it was good I took him in. I told Betsy (the doc) what I did to care for him yesterday and she said that was just what I should have done. So we ran an errand or two and then picked up his anti-biotic and headed home.

Before this drama, our new bed was delivered and I had the sprinklers blown out so they wouldn’t freeze when it snows. After picking up Jagger we went to Costco for a few things and then headed home which pretty much sums up the rest of the day.

Today I have a sales meeting at the distributor at 10am and then will rush home for an 11am conference call. This afternoon we’re headed to the mountains for a break as I need to let a contractor in tomorrow am to finish painting the door. It’s supposed to be nice for the next few days but fall is definitley here with winter nipping at its heels.

Hope everyone is well, all good here, take care and God Bless.
