Wish you could have seen him!

Mr. Ty and his teammates did not disappoint. First off though to the day. I was out early downtown and Cherry Creek and then stopped at the gym on the way home for a quick 30 minute lift. Meanwhile Lori was playing flower arrangement at home and making hand made chocolates for her event. She left about 2pm and I picked up the kiddos at the usual 2:45. It wasn’t long before it was time to go to the game. After dropping Jag at Uncle T’s, Ty and I headed to the Pepsi Center. We were a bit early but the time went fast and soon his team and parents showed up. The Nuggets gave us good seats, 11 rows up from the floor. Thankfully I was on the aisle as the seats are just too small for my knees and it would have really jacked me up if I was in the middle somewhere. Now I understand why Uncle T never goes to games!

Halftime came soon and they ushered the boys down with about 4 minutes to go. As soon as the players were off the floor, our guys and the other team walked out on to the court. Rocky, the Nuggets mascot was the referee. They faced off at half court and it was on. It was basically a free for all. Our guy was in on the action as the teams ran up and down the full NBA court. The crowd cheered and gasped in unison when shots went up. There was only 1 basket made the entire game as you have to remember the baskets are 10 feet tall! In any case, the boys had a great time, the crowd cheered and they’ll remember it forever. Most of us left as soon as it was over as it was getting late and everyone has school today.

Meanwhile Jag still wasn’t home! He ended up babysitting a two hour PTA meeting at school. Lori beat all of us home after a successful event. I know two of her friends are probably going to have procedures done by Dr. Rodgers which is a good $50K. Wonder if she’ll get a commission?

Today we’re back to the same old routine, Lori has a headache, and I’ll be on the computer. We need to also go through our freezer in the garage and throw out anything no longer good. I cooked up some hamburger yesterday from 2011 that was freezer burnt for the dogs. That’s about it, time to run, lots to do and little time to get it done.

God Bless

A busy busy day

It’s Thursday morning about 10 minutes to 6 and we just didn’t get to the post last night. Yesterday we were slammed all day with Lori at work and me all over the place. We met here at 3 in the afternoon and loaded up the boys and headed across town to her doctor. We made it home a bit after 6pm and had just enough time to get Mr. Ty changed into his basketball uniform and head to the game.

His game started at 6:45 and went until just before 8pm. He played great, had a bunch of steals and rebounds and a few break aways! Tonight his team is playing at half time of the Denver Nuggets basketball game! Each kid has to have a nickname for the announcer and Ty is the Ty the Terminator! Meanwhile Lori will be hosting a bunch of women from 4 until 7 tonight at her event at Dr. Rodgers office. She’ll be gone from noon until about 8 tonight. Last Jag will go down to Uncle Tommy’s until 6:30 and then get a ride to school where he’s babysitting (for money) for the PTA meeting. I think he and Mom will arrive home around the same time. Ty and I will probably be home a bit later.

Now to Lori and the doctor. First, I didn’t mean to infer that no one wants to know how she’s doing, we know you all care. Here’s two comments,

  1. Grandpa Bob and I do care about Lori’s condition, we would like to be updated often. I am sure the rest of the family feels the same way.

  2. Bob and I would like to have it read , Eleanor & Grandpa Bob on the reply name, how do you change it ?

I don’t know how to change your names. i think it has to do with how you sign on or whose computer it is.

Ok, so to Lori. Looks like we (or she) will be going in for disc fusion surgery on November 26th at 11am which is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. She asked for them to let her know if they have a cancellation before then as she’s anxious to get her headache over with. After talking with the doc we decided to just go in for the fusion and not go into the back of her neck at the same time. Apparently it’s quite a recovery and big deal to do both and she wouldn’t be able to raise her right arm until next March! Her EMG says her arm is not getting worse so he feels she can wait and see if we can get it calmed down through injections or other ways. Our first goal is to treat the headache. Now after the fusion surgery 15% of the people have a hard time swallowing for up to six months. If you lean your head back and try to swallow (try it) it’s pretty difficult. The fusion surgery straightens her neck and lifts it up a bit because the surgery is so high in her neck meaning in the C2 and C3 discs. In any case, she doesn’t care, she just wants her headache gone. We have all her tests and go see our doctor and friend in Vail on Monday for a second opinion just to play it safe. Our doctors know each other and I’m sure are on the same page. She’ll have to spend one night in the hospital so she’ll come home the Wednesday before turkey day. I don’t think we’ll be joining everyone at Uncle T’s for Thanksgiving. Lori is saying for the boys and I to go but I think I’ll just cook here to keep and eye on her.

The weekend after Thanksgiving we’ll go cut our tree as that’s when our permit is good for. Hopefully she’ll be fine by then.

So there you have it, 2 weeks and 5 days until she’s hopefully headache free. Sure it’s surgery but Lori’s excited. Now it’s all of your jobs to pray for her in the next few weeks as we have to get this done. It’s now 6:25, Jag just got out of the shower and Ty’s still sleeping.

One more thing, we were all talking in the car last night about something in Ty’s class and I said “I’ll just ask Ilsa” who is one of his classmates to which Ty replied “oh yea, a 56 year old asking a 9 year old, let’s see how that’ll play out”, too funny. I also came down this morning to find a note on the couch where I sit to plug in the computer which said “reserved for Ty Bennett Fugate”. He’s such a character.

Time to run as we have a busy morning, I have physical therapy and a hair cut, Jag has inter-murals (for sure!) and Lori has to go pick up flowers from the wholesaler for her event tonight.

    God Bless.

No snow!

We woke up and lo and behold, no snow! It was a little colder but not much so just another day. I took Jag to school at 7am for inter-murals and then headed to the gym. I came home before 8 and Jag was there! Turns out that Mom had the wrong morning, inter-murals is today!

I was out the door by 9 and Lori was gone a few minutes after me. She is working at the office most of the week and I’m up to my usual stuff. Today (Wednesday) at 4, we have a follow up appointment with her surgeon. Hope we get something going as Lori is in constant pain. I’ll stop mentioning it as I’m sure it’s getting old and no one wants to hear it anymore.

Guess I’ll run as not a whole lot else going on, Lori is sitting on the couch grading papers for the 4th grade, I’m sifting through bills, and the boys are still categorizing their Halloween candy and watching a show before bedtime. (remember it’s Tuesday night as I’m doing the post these days in the evening to save me time!)

So take care, but for a good laugh, turn on the tv and watch the Pres lie about his lies! He must think we are all really stupid. Finally even the liberal press and his own party are calling him out. But you got to hand it to him, he doesn’t waiver, he just keeps telling lies on top of lies assuming that if he says it over and over, finally we’ll all believe him. And why wouldn’t he, it’s worked for years now. But I have to tell you, this time I think he pushed it too far when he said over and over, “if you like your health plan, you’ll be able to keep it, period.” Period doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room. The reason it’s not flying as even his supporters are getting their health insurance cancelled and rates raised. They didn’t think he meant “them”!

Thank God, maybe there’s hope yet, God Bless.

Snow’s coming

We’re supposed to wake up to snow today, haven’t looked outside yet. Yesterday I ran to the warehouse and worked most of the day while Lori worked from the couch.

Ty had DI after school and then basketball practice at 6pm. Jag did his math homework with KayLynn via Face Time on I Phones, my how things have changed. I also don’t understand some of what they’re teaching these kids these days.

Not much else going on, paid a bunch of bills and filled some others. I think I found a guy to fix our garage door opener for $100 which is great as I thought it was going to cost me $600!

Not much else going on today unless you’re really good at Microsoft Excel (mathametical spreadsheet software) as that’s where most of my time is spent this time of year. It’s ok though as I enjoy numbers.

That’s about it, hope everyone is well, take care and God Bless.

Hurting all over….

Sounds like a song doesn’t it. Well both the misses and I are hurting all over, so to speak. You see the misses head is well, you know, the same. Meanwhile I jacked my knee up probably lifting too much weight at the gym. Guess I need to take it easy tomorrow.

We did manage to get the Christmas light hung with care and I cleaned out the gutters by hand as I went. The boys were playing here there and everywhere for most of the day.

Of course our garage door motor broke. We replaced the doors a few months ago but used our old motors to save some money. It finally caught up with us. I came out in the garage and found Lori standing in the 4 wheel drive Ranger, in her robe with not much else on underneath, trying to fix the chain. I jumped up to try to get the chain back on and finally the sprocket snapped off the motor. It’s just one of those bad cycles we’re in where every time we turn around, some unexpected expense that can’t wait, pops up!

It’s Sunday night right now and I’m writing this to save me some time in the morning. I’ve also started filling the coffee maker at night just to save a few minutes as well. I need all the extra time I can get, especially in the morning.

Lori has a busy week which she’ll have to get through with a pounding head. I too have lots going on but am at least not in pain. We wanted to try to get to California this month but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Between all our pressures (work, travel, bills, etc.) and her yet to be scheduled surgery, we just won’t be able to make it. Maybe we can squeeze in a two day trip before Christmas but we can’t make any promises. Lori and I have to fly to Florida for a Bocelli event early December but we’ll only be gone 60 hours or two nights. We also have an event in Colorado Springs before that and I probably have to get to New York, Boston and New Jersey as well. Throw in Thanksgiving, a 4 day trip around Colorado for work and Jag’s birthday and Christmas will be here before we know it. Maybe we should just schedule a trip right after the first of the year. We’ll keep you posted but we will get out there.

Well time to run, hope everyone has a great week. It’s supposed to get really cold for the next few days. Time to bundle up! God Bless.

Halloween out, Christmas in

Yesterday morning I went to the gym and when I arrived home I began to take down the Halloween decorations. Lori then came out and put everything away, which is the hard part. Today we’ll be getting the Christmas stuff down from the garage attic and get that party started.

Lori’s headache, as we knew, is back. She’s toughing it out but I can tell when she’s in pain. Tomorrow I’ll call and see what I can do to get her in right away. When I called Friday they said the soonest appointment was November 27th which isn’t going to work! Trust me, I’ll get her in.

Last night the boys and Ben played upstairs and Ben spent the night. My Mom came over for a visit and then Sara, our babysitter from years ago, stopped by and hung out for the evening.

Here’s a comment from Annette,

Annette says:

We used to cut down a tree every year in NV. You are right, it’s fun trying to pick a tree but in our house I had the last word. Hope things go well for Lori and she is finally pain free.

It IS so much fun cutting down your own tree, I’m going to try to drag my Mom with us this year but I wouldn’t bet on her going. One things for sure, Lori will not have the last word, unless she really wants it!

It was warm yesterday, comparatively speaking, and is supposed to be nice today as well. Then the cold and snow will come tomorrow. Time to get on the Christmas lights as the Broncos are only off for one weekend. Hope everyone is well, take care and God Bless.

Success

Well we arrived at the surgery center at 10:15 and the misses went in around an hour later. The whole thing took about 15 minutes and then the nurse and doctor called me in to tell me they isolated her pain in disc 2 and 3. This means we had to go straight to a CT Scan about 6 miles away. I of course had chatted up the nurses and gave them each a bottle of wine so we were getting special treatment. The doctor received two bottles and after talking to us before she went in and learning we were not only patients but friends of Dr. Corenman in Vail, (who sends them a lot of patients) was also very accomodating. In any transaction, which this was too, it’s all about the relationship as people are still people. Anyhow the misses was in recovery for about 30 minutes and when they rolled her out in a wheelchair, she was virtually headache free! I won’t go into the technicalities of what they did but it’s not a pleasant procedure. We all know how tough Lori is, but they don’t, or didn’t, until she was through. The doctor when talking to me said, “she’s one tough girl” to which I replied, “I told you so”.

We rushed to the CT Scan where we received the royal treatment as Jamie (our new friend and procedure coordinator who now loves us and our wine) had called ahead saying they needed to get us right in with no wait. (she sends them a lot of business too, are you beginning to see how things work?) 15 minutes later we were driving home across town with Lori still headache free. I kept asking her if her head was ok so many times I probably gave her a headache! Now I knew the pain reliever the doc shot between her discs had to wear off sooner or later so I kept checking. She pretty much made it through the night but this morning her head is up a little bit on the pain scale. This is expected and in fact, they said it might hurt a bit more along with the neck (injection sight and discs) for up to 5 days. Regardless, we’re thrilled that after 3 plus years, we’ve finally isolated the problem.

So what’s next, well, it’s neck fusion surgery, the same one that Peyton Manning had. Hopefully in November we’ll get in and the surgeon will perform a couple procedures at the same time. First he’ll have to go in the front of her neck and fuse discs two and three. Here they’ll use a plate and a cadaver bone. Second, he needs to go in the back of her neck and open up the nerve channels for the 5th and 6th nerve so she will regain the strength in her right arm. Then she should be good to go! So that’s about it, pretty simple huh. We’ll keep you posted, now we’re just waiting to see what insurance covers.

The boys had Chess Club after school so I picked them up at 4pm. Ty had called sayin dad where are you as I was supposed to pick them up at 3:45! Jag and I then headed out to a baseball meeting with the coach and team that drafted him for the 2014 season. They treat it just like professional baseball these days. Kids tryout the year before, get drafted and then have winter training starting now even though our first game isn’t until probably sometime in April. Our team is going to try to raise money to go play a tournament in Cooperstown New York where the Baseball Hall of Fame is. It’ll be a week long, 7 games and in next June or July. We’d make it a family vacation as they give you a cabin on a lake there and it’s supposedly beautiful in upstate New York. The kids that were there (5 of them) were great and even though Jag only knew one (the coaches son who was on his team last year) they all hit it off. The meeting was at a Pizza Hut and there was a table of girls about 12 or 13 years old that were flirting with the boys all night long. Finally our guys reciprocated, here it comes. It’s great for Jag to have another crowd of friends rather than just at school. He’s really social and makes friends with everyone and like I said, these are good kids.

We were home a bit after 7pm and then settled in for the night. Today I’ll be taking down all the Halloween lights and will try to get up some Christmas lights. Monday I’ll go to the forest service office and spend $10 for our tree permit. We still put up our fake tree but also go cut one for in our family room. It’s so much fun and when you cut one, they’re so fresh, not a single needle ever falls off! The tree always kind of looks like a Charlie Brown tree as it’s not from a tree farm so it isn’t all trimmed and perfect which we love even more. We string popcorn and put home made ornaments on the real one, and throw in a few store bought colored balls. The fun part is walking through the woods and arguing as a family as to which one we want. It’s not a real argument, just each of us saying “this is the perfect one!”. After we cut it down and drag it back to the truck we have some hot chocolate and sandwiches out in the forest, it’s loads of fun.

Time to run. Ty is downstairs with me while Mom and Jag are still sleeping. Ty and Lacey wanted to get up early, him saying “I want someone to go downstairs with me” and Lacey barking, so I rolled out of bed to take them both down. I think I’ll run to the gym.

Here’s a comment from Robi,

Robi says:

Prayers are with you misses! The boys looked great in their costumes and they are getting so big, and they are so handsome! Can’t wait to see them in 27 days!

Hope everyone is well and has a great weekend. Take care and God Bless.

November 1st

L1040193

Hope everyones Halloween was great. Our boys each went to their friends house so it was Lori and I at home until I picked each of them up. Here’s a comment from Aunt Robi, the only one to tell us what she dressed up as, although we’re not sure what it was,

robi says:

So sorry for the misses, hope she can get relief! I am at work and I dressed up as a co-worker who lets say, is very well endowed! HAPPY HALLOWEEN :)

Today the misses has a procedure scheduled at 11am. I was going to cancel last night but we might go ahead with it. First though we’re checking with our doctor in Vail who we know and trust the most. When I checked out reviews for the doc that will do the procedure this morning, I found he was suspended 8 years ago in California for substance abuse. Now this doesn’t mean he’s a bad doctor (could have been weed for all we know) but his office reviews were not that great either mostly due to a rude staff and long wait times. However when I picked up Jag, his friends Mom said that he is the guy she goes to and she was referred to by our doctor (who we sent her to) in Vail. So now I’m confused, but if Dr. Corenman refers patients to him, that’s good enough for us so we might be going after all. First though I’ll call up to Vail this morning to check him out. On top of that, this procedure is not covered by our insurance. Others like United Health Care cover it but due to Obummercare, ours stopped meaning I have to come up with a few thousand bucks with no notice. (and the dems are still pushing this crap, sorry but now it’s affecting me personally so I can rant and now we find out 6, that’s right 6 people nationwide, signed up on Day 1, hows that for success! No wonder they won’t say how many enrolled) We’ll keep you posted.

UPDATE, WE ARE GOING IN FOR THE PROCEDURE AT 11AM, OUT BY 2!

No matter what happens, today or tomorrow the Halloween lights come down and tomorrow the Christmas lights go up! It’s a perfect time for the Broncos to have their bye week (week off) so I can get some stuff done. Jag’s up with me and Mom and Ty are still sleeping. I caught Lori awake at 3 as with her head she just can’t get a good nights sleep. I don’t know how she does it. That’s another reason to maybe take a chance on this guy today, we have to get her some relief.

It was so cold and windy last night that it limited the number of trick or treaters we had. It was the wind that did it as the temperature wasn’t that bad. The boys both looked great and Lori threw two great parties at school for each kids class. I don’t know how she does it.

Time to run as I have some calls and decisions to make pretty fast. I’m leaning towards going now if I get the ok from Dr. Corenman, I’ll call and let you all know.

Say a prayer for the misses and God Bless.L1040189

One or two?

That’s the question, will Lori have one or two surgeries? We found out today the only way to get her arm fixed and get her strength back is to have surgery. They need to go in through the back of her neck and open up the channels for the 5th and 6th nerve on the right side. First up though, we’ll go for a disc density, or something like that, procedure hopefully as early as tomorrow. Here they’ll go in with needles and once they’re in, will then inject some pain reliever and wait and see if the headache goes away. If it does, then they’ll stop, if not, they’ll do another procedure where they do a nerve block between the discs. This would mean about a six hour day for her. Now here’s the funny part, if the pain medicine works, then we know that she needs to have discs 2 and 3 fused. This means going in from the front. Are you with me so far? To sum it up, if the first procedure works Friday, we stop and schedule two surgeries, at the same time. If she has two procedures Friday we start with one surgery to relive the arm weakness and continue to try to fix the headache.

So if we can get in tomorrow, we’re in. If not, we’re hoping for Monday or Tuesday. A week from Monday we’re headed up to our other doctor at the Steadman Clinic in Vail. We’re going basically for a second opinion. Both her doctors are recognized as the best in their field and they know eachothe

Now to last night, Ty played great and his team won their first game. Meanwhile Jag stayed home with me and Jennifer and KayLynn, who both came home from school with him.

I managed to finish my work but still have lots to do. It seems I always have lots to do. I did manage to catch a little bit of lying by Kathleen Sebielus when she had to testify about health care. It’s inconceivable how these politicians just flat out lie with such a straight face. Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Tonight we have lots of pumpkins to carve and the kids will be filling their bags with treats and sweets. Then it’s downhill to Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year. Throw in a few birthdays and it’ll fly by in no time.

Let us know what you’re dressing up as, we’re excited to hear. Take care and God Bless.

“The condition of our country today? It’s kind of like folks listening to the band playing while the Titanic is sinking, and them asking them to play a different tune.”

Back to the doctor

This morning at 9:45 we’re back at the doctor to review Lori’s emg and mri. Hopefully we’ll then come up with a plan on what to do to try to relieve her pain. I think trying to get rid of the pain is the first thing to address and then we need to look at the numbness and weakness in her right arm. I don’t care if we have to sell everything we own, I’ll do whatever we need to do to get this fixed and relieve her pain. We’ll keep you posted.

Tonight Ty has his first basketball game and the boys and Jennifer are carving pumpkins after school. I have a ton of work to do today, mostly on the phone and computer getting 2014 pricing and projections wrapped up. I set myself a goal of having this done by November 1st but it’s going to be tough.

My neck is sore from sleeping funny, I think it’s time for a new bed. Uncle T asked yesterday what I wanted for Christmas, well there ya go, a new bed and one with a pillow top! If that’s too much, we could also use a shell for our pick-up truck or insulation for the attic.

The boys are watching the Goldbergs which is a new show on tv about a family in the 1970’s, it’s hilarious. The mom is over the top with her meddling.

Guess I’ll run, lucky none of our mothers are meddlers!

God Bless
