What, no comments?

Hopefully you’re all stunned by yesterdays post on the condition of our country and not just blowing it off as not true. If so, you need to wake the “you know what” up! There’s two choices here, you either don’t believe it or you just don’t care, both are bad and I don’t know which one is worse. Hopefully you do care and are just too frustrated to say anything. Hopefully it’s not too late but if the “non working, give me more free stuff” people prevail in the coming mid terms in 2014, I’m afraid there’s no turning back. Oh well, if I were you I would prepare to take care of myself and my family on my own as we live in and ever changing country.

Yesterday we took the boys to Despicable Me 2 which the boys have wanted to see for a week since it came out. Before that, starting before 7am, I was boxing more wine and was at Fed Ex by 9:30 with a load. Meanwhile the misses was cleaning around the house and getting the boys to do their school work. After the movie we made a quick trip to the grocery store and then came home where the boys proceeded to head outside to play while we made dinner.

Today the misses needs to go to the office this morning while I’ll box a little more wine before heading out at noon for a meeting with the distributor at 1:30. We’ll then need to pack today as we’re off at 7am in the morning to the mountains until Monday around noon. More to come on that tomorrow.

Time to run as the misses is waiting for the computer to get to work. Take care and have a great day and God Bless.

A Guest Post

Here today we have a guest post from a Rabbi that was sent to me by a family friend who lives in Scottsdale. It’s a little long but worth the read, hope you enjoy.

Most reasonable thinkers already know this, but it is very sad to see it in print from someone like this gentleman! A very sad situation for “our” country that has been so great!

 We Are Not Coming Back

 Please take a moment to digest this provocative article by a Jewish Rabbi from Teaneck , N.J.

It is far and away the most succinct and thoughtful explanation of how our nation is changing. The article appeared in The Israel National News, and is directed to Jewish readership. 70% of American Jews vote as Democrats. The Rabbi has some interesting comments in that regard.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“The most charitable way of explaining the election results of 2012 is that Americans voted for the status quo – for the incumbent President and for a divided Congress. They must enjoy gridlock, partisanship, incompetence, economic stagnation and avoidance of responsibility. And fewer people voted.
But as we awake from the nightmare, it is important to eschew the facile explanations for the Romney defeat that will prevail among the chattering classes. Romney did not lose because of the effects of Hurricane Sandy that devastated this area, nor did he lose because he ran a poor campaign, nor did he lose because the Republicans could have chosen better candidates, nor did he lose because Obama benefited from a slight uptick in the economy due to the business cycle.
Romney lost because he didn’t get enough votes to win.
That might seem obvious, but not for the obvious reasons. Romney lost because the conservative virtues – the traditional American virtues – of liberty, hard work, free enterprise, private initiative and aspirations to moral greatness – no longer inspire or animate a majority of the electorate.
The simplest reason why Romney lost was because it is impossible to compete against free stuff.
Every businessman knows this; that is why the “loss leader” or the giveaway is such a powerful marketing tool. Obama’s America is one in which free stuff is given away: the adults among the 47,000,000 on food stamps clearly recognized for whom they should vote, and so they did, by the tens of millions; those who – courtesy of Obama – receive two full years of unemployment benefits (which, of course, both disincentivizes looking for work and also motivates people to work off the books while collecting their windfall) surely know for whom to vote. The lure of free stuff is irresistible.
The defining moment of the whole campaign was the revelation of the secretly-recorded video in which Romney acknowledged the difficulty of winning an election in which “47% of the people” start off against him because they pay no taxes and just receive money – “free stuff” – from the government.
Almost half of the population has no skin in the game – they don’t care about high taxes, promoting business, or creating jobs, nor do they care that the money for their free stuff is being borrowed from their children and from the Chinese.
They just want the free stuff that comes their way at someone else’s expense. In the end, that 47% leaves very little margin for error for any Republican, and does not bode well for the future.
It is impossible to imagine a conservative candidate winning against such overwhelming odds. People do vote their pocketbooks. In essence, the people vote for a Congress who will not raise their taxes, and for a President who will give them free stuff, never mind who has to pay for it.
That engenders the second reason why Romney lost: the inescapable conclusion that the electorate is ignorant and uninformed. Indeed, it does not pay to be an informed voter, because most other voters – the clear majority – are unintelligent and easily swayed by emotion and raw populism. That is the indelicate way of saying that too many people vote with their hearts and not their heads. That is why Obama did not have to produce a second term agenda, or even defend his first-term record. He needed only to portray Mitt Romney as a rapacious capitalist who throws elderly women over a cliff, when he is not just snatching away their cancer medication, while starving the poor and cutting taxes for the rich.
During his 1956 presidential campaign, a woman called out to Adlai Stevenson: “Senator, you have the vote of every thinking person!” Stevenson called back: “That’s not enough, madam, we need a majority!”
Truer words were never spoken.
Obama could get away with saying that “Romney wants the rich to play by a different set of rules” – without ever defining what those different rules were; with saying that the “rich should pay their fair share” – without ever defining what a “fair share” is; with saying that Romney wants the poor, elderly and sick to “fend for themselves” – without even acknowledging that all these government programs are going bankrupt, their current insolvency only papered over by deficit spending.
Similarly, Obama (or his surrogates) could hint to blacks that a Romney victory would lead them back into chains and proclaim to women that their abortions and birth control would be taken away. He could appeal to Hispanics that Romney would have them all arrested and shipped to Mexico and unabashedly state that he will not enforce the current immigration laws. He could espouse the furtherance of the incestuous relationship between governments and unions – in which politicians ply the unions with public money, in exchange for which the unions provide the politicians with votes, in exchange for which the politicians provide more money and the unions provide more votes, etc., even though the money is gone.
Obama also knows that the electorate has changed - that whites will soon be a minority in America (they’re already a minority in California) and that the new immigrants to the US are primarily from the Third World and do not share the traditional American values that attracted immigrants in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is a different world, and a different America . Obama is part of that different America , knows it, and knows how to tap into it. That is why he won.
Obama also proved again that negative advertising works, invective sells, and harsh personal attacks succeed. That Romney never engaged in such diatribes points to his essential goodness as a person; his “negative ads” were simple facts, never personal abuse – facts about high unemployment, lower take-home pay, a loss of American power and prestige abroad, a lack of leadership, etc. As a politician, though, Romney failed because he did not embrace the devil’s bargain of making unsustainable promises.
It turned out that it was not possible for Romney and Ryan – people of substance, depth and ideas – to compete with the shallow populism and platitudes of their opponents. Obama mastered the politics of envy – of class warfare – never reaching out to Americans as such but to individual groups, and cobbling together a winning majority from these minority groups. If an Obama could not be defeated – with his record and his vision of America , in which free stuff seduces voters – it is hard to envision any change in the future.
The road to Hillary Clinton in 2016 and to a European-socialist economy – those very economies that are collapsing today in Europe – is paved.
For Jews, mostly assimilated anyway and staunch Democrats, the results demonstrate again that liberalism is their Torah. Almost 70% voted for a president widely perceived by Israelis and most committed Jews as hostile to Israel . They voted to secure Obama’s future at America ‘s expense and at Israel ‘s expense – in effect, preferring Obama to Netanyahu by a wide margin.
A dangerous time is ahead. Under present circumstances, it is inconceivable that the US will take any aggressive action against Iran and will more likely thwart any Israeli initiative. The US will preach the importance of negotiations up until the production of the first Iranian nuclear weapon – and then state that the world must learn to live with this new reality.
But this election should be a wake-up call to Jews. There is no permanent empire, nor is there an enduring haven for Jews anywhere in the exile. The American empire began to decline in 2007, and the deterioration has been exacerbated in the last five years. This election only hastens that decline.
Society is permeated with sloth, greed, envy and materialistic excess. It has lost its moorings and its moral foundations.. The takers outnumber the givers, and that will only increase in years to come.
The “Occupy” riots across this country in the last two years were mere dress rehearsals for what lies ahead – years of unrest sparked by the increasing discontent of the unsuccessful who want to seize the fruits and the bounty of the successful, and do not appreciate the slow pace of redistribution.
If this election proves one thing, it is that the Old America is gone. And, sad for the world, it is not coming back.”
The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.
Take care and God Bless you all and God Bless America!
Wheels up
The wine is in the air destined for mostly states in the south east. It was hot yesterday so I had Fed Ex pick up about 4:30 so it wasn’t driving around in the heat all day. The driver was such a nice guy who was happy to see 42 boxes rather than some guy who would be pissed that he had to lift so many heavy boxes so late in the day. We gave him a few bottles of wine and thanked him and also asked his name so we can ask for him again.
Straight after that we rushed down to Aunt Ali’s for her belated (by one day) b-day celebration. It was good to take a few minutes to visit with her, Uncle T and Grandma. Grandma looks good. Earlier in the day the misses went to pilates for her head and body and is back there again at 9am this morning. Hope it helps. The boys were in rare form in the morning, being cooped up is not a good prescription for getting along. We’ll have to get them some exercise today somehow.
The youngest just came down all dressed and told me he had already finished his workbook for the day. Mom and the oldest are still sleeping which is good as they both need it. That’s about it for the day, hope everyone is well, take care and God Bless.
Pulled back
Man is my back sore, I bent over this morning to scoop out some dog food and my back almost went all the way out! This is not good when I have 40 cases of boxed wine in the front room that needs to go to Fed Ex today and another 10 to box and another 7 to pick up from the distributor in an hour and another 6 arriving from Macedonia via DHL this morning. I think it was from all the driving last week, or for that matter, the last 3 weeks!
I also hit the gym yesterday to try to get back on the program (that’s what I call my exercise routine) which probably didn’t help.
The boys played and played while I boxed wine and the misses finished up laundry and putting stuff away. Her neck is still killing her, what’s new, so we’ll have to try to get her into acupuncture this week and I think she’s going to pilates this morning.
It’ll be a hot one all week long, well into the 90’s. I think this afternoon we’re seeing Aunt Ali for her birthday celebration even though it was yesterday. I’m not sure how old she is, all I know is she’s older than me, ha ha.
Take care, have a great week and God Bless.
Happy Birthday To Aunt Blondie
Good morning….Happy Birthday Auntie B!
We slept in a little to try to catch up on much needed sleep.  The youngest climbed in bed with us, and since his last growth spurt the Mr. and I had absolutely no room and our rest was interrupted multiple times. We will have to go back to walking him back to his room when he has a bad dream instead of just scooting over.
We got all of the laundry washed, dried and folded yesterday..today will be spent trying to put the laundry away.
The Mr. and I have to build more than 60 shipping boxes, fill them with wine, print up labels and have them ready for pick up tomorrow or Tuesday.  That task will put a crimp in our Sunday afternoon fun.
The youngest would like to have a friend come over to play today..imagine that.  His friend called about an hour after we arrived home yesterday to ask if the youngest could come over to play and the youngest’s answer was a definite, “yes.”  The youngest’s friend had been out of town for 2 weeks and we were in Aspen when he returned, so the kiddos were super excited to play together.
The dogs are really happy we are home.  Lacey acts like a 2 year old every time we enter a room and Mojo has his big head lying on top of my left hand so I can scratch his chin and rub his front paw. Typing with one hand is really challenging.  Mojo is making a valiant attempt to climb up on my lap…he has no idea of his actual size….ugg.
Time to make breakfast…the youngest is hungry and the big dog is now using both paws trying to pull my left hand back to him for affection.
Have a great day…God Bless
What a day, what a night
Ok, where do I begin, I guess in the morning. We all woke up around 8am, in our separate rooms, and joined up for breakfast downstairs. They really do do a nice job. One thing though is that ever since the St Regis Hotels was bought by a large Asian company, they hired or imported all these asian employees. I think most are from the far east which is fine except they don’t understand english! Now I don’t care if your at the pool, the restaurant, the gift shop, or almost anywhere, the employees are all asian. They’re all very nice, they just don’t speak or understand english very well. I’m kind of shocked as it was a common topic of discussion among guests of the hotel. Oh well, it is what it is.
After breakfast we headed for the pool for a dip (the boys that is) before loading up and heading a few miles away to our friend Peggy’s house. There, her and the misses talked wardrobe and tried on different clothes and accessories for the party last night. After this was over we literally went a stones throw away to the other side of the highway to our friend Rollie’s cousins house where she was staying. Rollie came up to go to the party with us and insisted we come over for a picnic lunch by the lake, whatever that meant. When we arrived at her cousins place, we went in and were greeted by them and three dogs. One was a rescue named Dennis and the other two were small scottish terriers or something. In any case, they were thrilled to have kids around. The house was amazing as he was the founder of Merrill Lynch which I’m sure we’ve all heard of. Arron and Barbara have lived here for 30 some years. I think they’re putting the house on the market forL1030756 $30 million which gives you an idea how fantastic it was. In any case, they took us right in and after visiting, sent us down a path to the river which you then follow to a private lake that 5 houses share. It had boats and a trampoline in the middle of it with waterfalls on each end that must have been 20 feet or higher feeding the lake. We took the dogs, had a picnic and the boys and I were all rowing around the lake, what fun. A few hours later we decided we better get back to get ready for the big party.
First up though was more swimming for the boys. The pool is too small for the hotel and lots of people came and went wanting to swim with no place to sit. Our boys though were in the water so it didn’t matter.L1030760 L1030771
Soon it was 6pm and we were ready to head downstairs. The boys were set up with pizza and chocolate milk and a movie while we went downstairs. It started off with a silent auction for 2 hours and everyone milling around all dressed up. We didn’t bid on anything except a signed ski racing bib by Julia Mancusco who won a bunch of medals in the last Olympics. To our surprise we won for less than $50! We’ll have our friend frame it. We put up Bocelli tickets and Lori and Diane and Peggy all hovered around it making sure no one bid on it but Diane. She won the tickets for I think $400 or $500.
Next up was dinner downstairs in the Grand Ballroom. It was good food, just a bit overcooked as these events always are. It’s hard to feed 500 people and have the food be warm. The wine (which we donated) was great, ha ha. During dinner was the live auction which was fun. The hit of the night was the Tuscany package we donated that sold for $40,000! On top of that, they had called me earlier in the day and asked if things went well, it they could sell two packages. I said yes if they bucked up the 1000 euros for the second lunch to which they said they would. So when the auctioneer was at $40,000 with two people bidding, he then said they both won meaning they raised $80,000! Now the people that put this on arranged for the villa in Italy which was part of the package but the thing that made it was a tour of the Bocelli estate and a lunch for 12 there, so they were very thankful to us for generously donating not once but twice. The Buddy Program which is what this was all for) was started 40 years ago to provide mentors or “buddys” to kids that need help. They have all kinds of success stories of kids that have gone on to great things in the past 40 years. In total they’ve helped over 2000 kids. So it was a great success. After this they just asked people to donate cash and they started with $50,000 donations, then $25,000, then $10,000, then $5000 all they way down to $100 and lots of people donated at all levels. All in all they had to have raised $1 million or more.
Next up was the dj in the Fendi Lounge, an area for dancing they arranged with a bunch of bars. We went upstairs with some people to hang out where it was a bit quieter. Peggy and Rollie stayed downstairs wanting me to stay and dance but I managed to pull away just in time. Soon it was 11pm and we decided we were calling it a night. Jag was up still watching a movie and Ty was asleep so I carried him up to Mom’s room. This morning we’re packing up for the trip home. The boys of course want to stay and continue the vacation but we’re going home. It was a fun time with genuine fun people who are all veryL1030722 very kind to us. It’s like they’ve taken us in like family even though we’ve known most of them for only a few months. It’s good to know there’s still good people out there!
The misses will post pictures later today. God Bless.
And on it goes
We all woke up by 8am and Billie was downstairs making the boys breakfast. We all were cleaned up by 10 or so and a little before 11am we walked to the restaurant where our table was reserved for the parade. It all started right on schedule at noon. First up was a L1030704parade of motorcycles zooming and booming down Main Street, then fire engines, cowboys on horses, veterans from WW1, WW2, Korea and any other conflict we’ve had in the past 100 years.L1030716
Trow in all kinds of local organizations and 90 minutes later it was all over. Greg and Billie were off to another party for a quick appearance and wanted us to go but we passed so we could walk back to their house and load up for the 6 block ride to the St Regis Hotel.
L1030707
We checked in and all was well, the boys wanted to swim so off we went. Upon returning L1030722to our room, I took a quick shower and afterwards it stunk like a sewer! I went right down to the front desk for help and they said they couldn’t move us as they had no other adjoining rooms or suites. They did send engineering up to pour some sort of enzymes in the drain saying that this happens from time to time. Needless to say I was not happy happy happy, but thought I’d give them a chance since we had no other options, until we were back from dinner. We made it back by 9:30 or so after a great dinner at Cache Cache (one of the greatest restaurants there is) and walked in to what smelled like a freakin out house! Now I was livid and they sent engineering back up but I called and demanded two new rooms even if they weren’t connected. So the oldest and I ended up in room 207 with 2 great beds and Mom and Ty one floor above in 301, a room with a king bed. Their room had a roll away and the misses said let’s all just sleep there, but I said no way, we’re using both rooms just because.
So that’s it, a fun great day at the parade and a smelly room to boot before finally ending up one floor apart in new comfy rooms. Today I’ll be demanding some sort of compensation (even though I’m not paying for the rooms) as it was just unacceptable. No ones fault, just unacceptable.
Mom will post some pictures soon, hope everyone had a great 4th. God Bless. Here’s a comment from Annette,
Annette says:
Sounds like a great 4th for you all. The cop behind my next door neighbor has been shooting off fireworks all week so I don’t have to go,anywhere to see fireworks. I think they are illegal and very impressive. Poor Betty Mae would be under the desk all week.
What nice friends
We finally left Denver at 11:30 and pulled into Aspen at 2:45. We found Greg and Billie’s house right away and unloaded all our stuff. We sure have a lot of stuff for 4 people for 3 nights. Despite bringing everything but the kitchen sink, we still forgot toothpaste and the misses forgot pajamas. Let me tell you one thing right now, kids watermelon toothpaste sucks! As for pajamas, the misses stole my boxer shorts and a t shirt.
Billie had invited about 10 people over to join us for dinner to meet us unbeknownst to us. It was quite a group including a really nice guy ( and his girlfriend from Sarasota Florida whose has been Billies friend for 30 years) from Wichita Kansas who reminded me of my dad, John Denver’s manager and wife (he also managed Duke Ellington and others), a couple from Vail who knows just about everyone we know, hard to believe we never met, Diane, who is staying here with Greg and Billie also (her dad was Director of the CIA during the Kennedy administration and she was a top model in the 60’s and 70’s) and our hosts, Greg and Billie. The house is unbelievable, it’s hard to describe as it’d take me forever to explain everything but downstairs is a media room with a giant big screen that’s like a movie theater. It’s so much like a theater that they have long red curtains that open to reveal the screen. The art is amazing, they have at least half a dozen Andy Warhol’s, signed and all. The other art was great too but I didn’t recognize any of it.
Our dinner was fun, lots of old stories and I forgot, a guy joined us who is the spitting image of John Denver. He sings and does shows around the country I guess, and was pretty good. Anyhow we had a blast, lots of fun stories and good company. At dinner, Billie who is so sweet, toasted to us as their new best friends. She again promised to make sure the boys get into this school where the most influential family’s in the country send their kids for a bit in high school. Who knows what’ll happen in 4 or 5 years but there not the kind of people that say things just to say things. She was so sweet to the boys who were so well mannered. Greg gave them a few chores  like fixing the flag out front that was twisted from the wind and then high fived Jag with both hands.
Tomorrow they’re hosting a brunch right on Main Street at an Asian Fusion restaurant that they booked right on the parade route. Billie is insisting we join them which we will, she’s made special arrangements for the boys. They have another party they want us to go to with them tomorrow night but I said we were just going to hang out with the boys at the hotel. We’ll see them again the next night at our big party.
So lots of fun, the weather is perfect and there was a nice rain shower in the afternoon. It’s really beautiful up here and everyone is so kind to us. Hope everyone has a great 4th, here’s a comment from Aunt Robi,
Robi says:
HAPPY 4TH TO ALL! I am attempting to make an apple pie tonight to go along with our hot dogs tomorrow. We will be substituting beer for baseball but hey, 2 outta 3 ain’t bad! BE SAFE!
Take care and God Bless everyone and God Bless the United States of America!
We have wine!
About 11am the truck arrived with 5 pallets of vino. We unloaded it fairly quickly and have it strewn all around the house. There it will sit until this weekend when I break it down and re-box it for distribution around the Country.
This morning we’re off to Aspen. I’m not sure what time we’ll get out of here but it should be before noon. Tonight we’ll be staying with our friends at their palacial home before checking in to our hotel tomorrow. This way we’re already up there for all the festivities on the 4th rather than driving. Lots to do before we go so time to get rolling. Here’s a comment from Annette about the oldest guy reading pass his bed time.
Annette says:
At least he is reading (I read to 4am The Son, about Texas).
Now I don’t care who you are, you should not stay up until 4am reading missy! It’s just not good for your body clock.
Mom was downtown at the spa yesterday, with our friend who owns it, getting her nails done. The rest of the day was spent with my Mom trying to decide what to wear for the big party Friday night. Luckily my choices are limited to a sport coat or two so I don’t have this problem.
The boys played and played (what’s new) and then Ben spent the night. We managed to get them all asleep by 10pm which is pretty good. Today we’ll be going over Independence Pass again which saves us about 45 minutes to an hour. It’s only open in the summer as it’s real high like 12,000 feet. I promised the boys we’d stop at the old town of Independence which is now just a bunch of old cabins from the 1880’s but was a bustling town of over 30,000 people back then. They want to run down and explore it. It was snowing there June 16th when we came through last time so we didn’t spend much time there. The town was eventually wiped out by so many avalanches that the remaining residents made skis ands skied down to what is now Aspen. They have a couple of girls (that are interns) there every day to tell everyone about the history of the place. Fun for the boys.
Guess I’ll go, hope all’s well and everyone is ready for some hot dogs, baseball and apple pie. That’s as American as you can get. Hopefully where you live you won’t have to fly some foreign flag to be politically correct tomorrow! These days, it wouldn’t surprise me.
Take care and God Bless.
Wine today, we hope
Ok, our wine wasn’t delivered yesterday after all as the trucking company couldn’t fit it in the schedule. We’re told it’ll be here this morning which is fine as we weren’t really ready for it anyhow.
Here’s a comment from Aunt Robi,
Robi says:
Ok, so I was channel surfing and I came upon Duck Dynasty so I had to stop and watch. OMG! I laughed so hard I almost feel off the couch. Uncle Si is my fav – LOL! Great pics of the boys – oh and you too mister!
I’m so glad you found it so now you know what we’re talking about. We love Uncle Si also, “that’s the fact jack!” as he says. They’re really a good family who really struck it rich making duck calls. I know the show is a bit staged (has to be) but it’s still funny! We have to get the dvd up to my Mom as she’ll pee her pants she’ll be laughing so hard. Jagger says when Miss Kay’s hair is up she looks like a chubby version of Grandma!
Here’s the misses to wrap things up for the day,
Both boys still have clean rooms…a-m-a-z-i-n-g! We were driving home from the oldest’s coaches house last night and we were talking about why we chose World War Z as our movie to see.  I told the boys that I didn’t realize that the graphics would be quite so realistic, and that I thought the zombies would look more like the zombies from the movie Warm Bodies.  The kiddos laughed and said the only scary thing about Warm Bodies were the mean zombies…skeleton zombies called bonies.
When the word “bonies” was mentioned the laughter started…bonies, bones, boners all mentioned with so much laughter it was intoxicating.  I asked the youngest if he knew what the word meant and the oldest jumped in to inform us that an acquaintances little brother told them all about boners during the last day of school party….super.  The youngest chimed in with, “I guess somebody had bad puberty.” It was really funny in the car…doesn’t translate as well in print.
We had quite the sound and light show here last night.  The thunder sounded more like a sonic boom that was cracking the ceiling to the heavens.  The rain was pounding down with such force on our roof that at one point I thought it might break through.  I sprang out of bed to close all of the windows just to find the oldest finishing up a book…at 11:15p.m. Ugg. …he did say the book had a really good ending.
I’m heading out this morning to the office and then off to meet a friend for a pedicure at her spa.  Oh, happy day. The Mr. has an appointment downtown after all of the wine is delivered and stacked.  I need to figure out something fun for the boys to do this afternoon, since this morning will not be a whole lot of fun.
Time to get moving..literally..we have to move furniture to make room for the wine.
Love to you all and God Bless
