Thanks Aunt B

Well yesterday evening I found myself stuck at football and Mom was still at work and I realized that I hadn’t picked up my dry cleaning and they were soon closing at 7pm. Once again, Aunt B came to the rescue. She jumped in her car and drove to the cleaners to get my clothes so I had something to wear this morning, thanks again!

It’s 4am and my flight is at 8:15 or so. I’ll land in Seattle around 10am west coast time and be there until 4 tomorrow afternoon when I head home. I’m making some radical changes to all facets of the company, the way I pay people, the way I buy wine, who’s in charge of what, etc. Should be a fun time. (that’s me being sarcastic)

Most of my day yesterday was spent on the phone with the boys upstairs. It’s no surprise that with no exercise, they were bound to go at each other a little bit. It’s tough when I have to plant them in front of the tv for hours on end. I did manage to get them out around noon for a bit and we picked up the new movie on dvd named Rio. This bought me a few hours of uninterrupted work in the afternoon before we needed to get ready for football.

Football was fun for both boys but the older one and his team played a team that looked like they were professionals. Those kids had to be older than 9 and 10. They were throwing the ball 30 and 40 yards and made our kids, who were undefeated this Spring, look like junior varsity. I found out that the quarterbacks dad played at the University of Colorado which accounts for his talent, but overall they were just in another league. Oh well, it’s good for kids to face some adversity and not just sail through the season without being challenged. I think they beat us 14 or 21 to nothing but we’ll get a chance to play them again in a couple of weeks in the championship. It also didn’t help that we only had 6 players (5 play at a time) as a lot of our kids are out of town on vacation. Our guy still played hard and seemed more determined the more his team fell behind and played harder as the game went on. It was great to see him toughen up as the game went on when it would have been real easy to lose hope and fold. We were proud of him.

Today and tomorrow Mom’s going after the house and the little guys new room upstairs. I don’t envy her because it’s a real mess. I tried to clean up yesterday (it was clean for about 2 minutes) but by the end of the day, it was pretty messy. I still have 60 or so boxes of wine strewn around the house which doesn’t help. I got paid yesterday, and today it’s pretty much all gone! Amazing how quick it goes these days, at least the bills are pretty much paid until September 1st. Wow, just saying September 1st is shocking!

Two weeks from Monday the boys start school, summer’s winding down fast. I think this weekend while I have a little cash left, we’ll go get the kids a few clothes. Aunt B and Uncle T dropped off a pair of jeans for each boy the other day, thanks again! I’m personally excited for the arrival of fall. You might remember from an earlier post that fall is my favorite season of the year. The changing of the seasons is a magical time. You can mark the day on your calendar when the first hint of fall rears its head. You know what I mean, that morning when you walk outside and the air suddenly has that cool feeling to it rather than the heat of summer. Then of course we have Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas which are all more magical when kids are in the house. We need to savor every day we can with the boys growing up so fast. Before we know it, it seems they’ll be in college. Man does life go fast. This should be a lesson to us all not to waste anytime on little petty things that bother us. For example, it’s now 4:41 and the alarm upstairs just went off! Looks like I didn’t get the switch turned off into the right position when I woke up. Everyone woke up for a few seconds but are hopefully going back to sleep.

Well time for me to find something to eat and jump in the shower. At least I have first class both ways courtesy of United. Looks like I’m headed to Spain around the first week of November for a quick 4 days on the ground. I need to renew my passport since it’s now expired. We’re watching for some cheap fares to Hawaii because I need to make sure I hit my 50,000 flight miles by December 31st to keep my elite status. We have enough Marriott miles to stay for free, we just need the plane tickets.

Check out this quote for the day, hope you like the quotes and that they spur some thought. Take care, God Bless and have a great day,

“When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.” – Dr. Adrian Pierce Rogers
