A Blizzard

I dropped the boys at school around 8am, Ty with all his gear and Jag with his school books. By the time I made it home I noticed the snow had started. I jumped on my 9am conference call and about an hour later happened to turn around and look out the window. What I saw looked like something out of a movie. The snow was blowing sideways and coming down in big flakes. I instantly worried about Ty and the kids on the trip but figured the school knew what they were doing. So back to work but all morning and early afternoon I couldn’t shake the thought of the kids out there above 10,000 feet on skis in this weather. Finally a bit after 2pm, I was upstairs doing some laundry when the phone rang. By the time I made it down, I missed the call but saw the school called. I immediately called back and the front desk transferred me to the Director of the Middle School. So now I’m really worried. He picked up and told me 2 kids (girls) got sick and they were turning back due to this and the weather. Turns out one girl passed out on the mountain and Ty was the only one to take off his skis and go to tend her. Then another was weak due to the altitude. Now we’re at 8500 feet but another 2000 feet or more up can play with your energy and breathing. Throw in the blizzard and the teachers made the decision to turn around. The other two groups made it safely to their huts as they were in areas more protected by trees and mountains that were also not as high in elevation.

The kids made it back by 4pm to school and they were covered in snow, cold and wet. They were all bummed at not making it up to the hut so today the school is having a pajama day and having all kinds of fun stuff for them. Still though, they’re disappointed.

Honestly I’m glad they turned back. Now I’m a pretty aggressive guy when it comes to outdoor activities but this storm was too dangerous. I’m back in Denver today for work so time to run. Hope all’s well, take care and God Bless. Dixie, the boys tried to call you last night but couldn’t reach you, they’ll try again tonight!

The Hut Trip

This morning Ty takes off on his hut trip. They’ll hike up a mountain on skis with skins on the bottom to a hut around 11,000 feet high where they’ll then spend the night. Skins are things you put on the bottom of your skis to prevent you from sliding backwards. He’s gone until around 3pm tomorrow so it’ll be quite the adventure. Of course it snowed last night so they have that going for them.

I made it to Denver and back by about 1:30 yesterday. It was pretty snowy going down but just wet coming back up. Jag and Lori both had good days as did Ty although Lori didn’t make it home until 7pm. Today I have lots of computer work and conference calls starting at 9am. I should be done with my calls by 11:30.

Time to run as we need to get the kids up and moving. Hope all’s well, Go Broncos!

5am and the smell of fresh bacon

I’m up early to take Lori’s car to get fixed in Denver. You might recall a few months ago she backed into something at work and cracked the handle. Not that big a deal but I like to keep my cars in 100% condition. I threw some bacon in the oven and just put on the coffee.

Last night Lori, Ty and I gathered up his gear and stuffed it in his brothers pack which he’ll use on his hut trip that starts tomorrow. It’s a big deal where he hikes on skis for over 10 miles in 2 days, spending the night at a hut up above 10,000 feet. We’re all excited for him. Meanwhile the school, unbeknownst to us, charged up my credit card for the 8th grade Washington D.C. trip in April. We found out about this about 10 days ago. We weren’t going to spend the money ($1400) but the entire 8th grade is going, uggh.

Guess I’ll run, Lori has clinic, we have a few inches (4) of new snow and the coffee’s done. Hope all’s well, go out and buy some extra food! God Bless.

Go Bronco’s

We left the house about 8:30am in a blinding snowstorm. The roads were bad, and I mean bad, until we made it over Vail Pass. In fact, at the top of the Pass, the road was closed westbound to Vail, but thankfully open to Denver. Jag and I dropped Lori and Ty at my Mom’s and headed downtown to Elway’s to meet Josh and Jody for some lunch before the game. A few hours later we were at the stadium. It was electric outside with the parking lot packed. We headed inside and walked down to the bottom where all the action is. After a quick stop in the Team Store, with a few hundred other fans, we made our way up to our seats.

Now the first two thirds of the game was tough with both teams struggling on offense and the defenses playing pretty well. Finally around the 4th quarter, our defense and offense took over. With 3 minutes to go we took a 20 to 13 lead and after a field goal by each team it ended at 23 to 16. It was a hard fought game where our receivers dropped 6 or more balls. Hopefully next week when we play the hated Patriots, that won’t be the case.

Jag and I then dropped Josh and Jody at their rental car and headed to Grandma’s to pick up Lori and Ty. Ty had a great party at Jump Street, the trampoline place, while we were at the game. We headed up the hill about 6:10 and were home by 8:10. Everyone is tired this morning but it is what it is. Time to get moving so there you go. The AFC Championship game is next Sunday with the winner going to the Super Bowl. Hopefully that’s us!

God Bless

Happy Birthday TY!

Today Ty is 12 years old, whoo hoo! We’re all headed to Denver where Jag and I will go to the Bronco game and Ty will have a party. Then we’ll all head back up the hill home. Warner spent the night last night and I think is going with us. Whoops, we just got a text he has practice for the school play and we need to drop him at home on the way. There are still about 6 boys in Denver coming so it’ll be a party. There’s lots of snow so we’ll need to get moving. Hope the roads and pass are ok.

Well Green Bay lost on about the second play in overtime last night after a miraculous play with 4 seconds to go in the game to tie it up. Too bad but it was a good game.

Lori’s back is still sore but apparently no damage as she had an MRI Friday just to make sure. Time to get moving, hope all’s well and again Happy Birthday to our special guy Ty! Lori did get him a signed football from a New Orleans Saints player which is his favorite team after the Broncos. Don’t say anything to him if you see him as he might open his presents tonight! God Bless.

Snooooow

It’s snowing, it snowed yesterday and last night and it’s supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow. We had a great day of skiing in the fresh powder. It was Jody’s first time ever on the slopes. We took him right up the gondola and put him on the hill. After a run or two, he got the hang of it. Eventually Ty and I skied down while Jag went off with friends from school and Jody pushed on by himself. Today we’ll get up some more before the football games.

Around 6:30 we had friends come over and the last ones left a bit after 11. It was a fun evening for us and the kids as our friends brought their kids along and they all go to school together.

Everyone is still sleeping but Mojo and me. We pretty much cleaned up last night so that’s out of the way. We need to get ready for Ty’s birthday tomorrow. He is having a party in Denver with his buddies. That’s it, time to run, GB.

Ski Friday

Here we go again, skiing with the boys. This week we have a new addition though, Jody who works for me and lives in Florida, is still here and will be hitting the slopes for the first time in his life. It was only a few days ago that he was in snow for the first time in his life, and he’s 40 years old! He does surf though so he should do ok. He’s pretty excited.

It’s snowing here for the next 2 days and supposed to even snow a bit for the Bronco game. What a great weekend starting this morning. 2 days of skiing and a day of football.

We had a good day yesterday, the boys in school and Lori and I working. Brian, our other coworker, left for Denver last night and jumped on a plane at 5:30 this morning for Phoenix. Antonio and a new friend from the 4 Seasons who is in Italy for his 25th anniversary, just called and woke me to thank me for the great time and lunch they’re having at the Bocelli Estate. Nice of him to thank me but early on the one day I’m sleeping in, uggh.

Guess I’ll run, hope all’s well, God Bless and Go Broncos and Go Packers!

A clean house

Yesterday Lori, who was home, and I worked on the house. Around 3:45 in the afternoon I took off for my meeting and unbeknownst to me, she kept cleaning. By the time I arrived home around 10pm, she had most everything and every room in the house all clean! The biggest challenge had to be Jag’s room as it was a mess.

My meeting went great with 20 people or so from all around the Country that arrived for 3 day meetings here in Vail. Some I do business with already, and some I’d like to. Overall it was a really good day business wise. Today more of the same with Jody, Brian and I will be working all day beginning at 9am.

Lori has to go back to work even though her back is still sore. The boys will be at school and of course tomorrow is ski Friday, whoo hoo!

Time to run, supposed to snow today and tomorrow. Hope everyone is well, GB.

Company coming to town!

Today I have a couple of guys that work for us arriving for a few days. They’re staying in town (Vail) and this evening we’ll meet up with a bunch of our distributor managers from around the Country who are all in Vail for their Winter Meetings. Tomorrow the three of us will work and then one guy leaves while the other stays and skis with us Friday and Saturday.

Lori came home a bit early as she threw her back out. She’s hunched over and on medication trying to get better but will be home today. I need to clean up the basement and get some laundry going so time to run. We didn’t watch the Pres’s speech last night as the guy is delusional. We did hear that anyone who doesn’t think the economy is booming or something to that effect, are crazy or something. Guess he didn’t notice the worst January in the stock market in over 25 years, oil at $30 a barrel (good for gas prices, definitely bad for the economy) and our food and medical cost going up again. I guess when the taxpayers (you and me) can pick up the $8,000,000 bill for your Christmas vacation, the economy is doing pretty good. That’s it, can’t write anymore about this guy. Sure will be glad when he’s gone.

God Bless

Overslept!

It’s 7:15am and yes, we overslept. Guess we needed it. Lori has clinic, the boys have school and I have an appointment to fix my windshield at 11am in Denver after a trip to the distributor. I had a meeting after school for Ty’s hut trip next week. He ski’s, climbs, hikes, over 10 miles at 10,000 feet and above for 2 days. They start getting ready at school today.

We need to run now as we leave in 40 minutes. Have a great day, lots going on, GB.
