A Year of Change

Happy Valentines Day! Here we go. It’s 5:01 am and we’re leaving in about an hour to take Lori to the airport. She’ll be gone until Sunday. This was about the only time she could go see her Mom so it is what it is even though we should be going out to dinner or something. She’s been going about once a month for as long as I can remember.

The house still looks great, white and bright. We’re supposed to get some good snow over the next 24 hours and picked up a fair amount yesterday afternoon. Thankfully there seems to be a lull from now until this afternoon which gives me a window to get down and up.

I have an appointment at noon and will drop Lori around 8 so I’ll have a little time to hang out. Guess I’ll get moving so that’s it. It’s getting crazy out there. It’s so crazy politically I can’t even go into it. Suffice it to say, everyone is out of their mind. Social media is the main weapon of choice these days and needs to just go away. Man I miss the days before computers and the internet. God Bless.

WOW, it’s hard to describe how good the house looks. The new paint has literally changed everything. The wood floors look better, the kitchen is brighter and the few pieces of art we put back on the wall look like they’re in a museum. We should have done this a long time ago.

Today we’ll redo Jag’s room as all his stuff is still in the center of the room with a plastic cover over it. Jag slept on the couch last night. Ramiro and his 3 guys arrived from Denver at 7:15 and left about 12 hours later. We used 15 1/2 gallons of paint as we needed to put 3 coats on. It’s really a great feeling.

Lori is off today and is supposed to go to her Mom’s tomorrow. We’re supposed to get 10 to 20 inches of snow which could change her travel plans but I think we’ll be ok. We’re off to the gym so time to go. I will get pictures up, promise. Have a great day, I think we’ll have the carpets cleaned next. GB

No time to waste as this morning we have our painters coming up from Denver to paint the inside of the house. With everything off the walls, the house seems so much larger. We decided to put a whole lot less paintings and stuff back on the walls when through. We’re also going with Polar White instead of the baby poop brown we have now. I managed to get everything moved and repaired all the walls except for in Jag’s room which he needs to do this morning. I’m sure we’ll need to help him.

This morning I’m off to Denver for a meeting and then will rush back up to prep the house for Ramiro to paint tomorrow. Ramiro is the brother of Elvia, our cleaning lady from when we lived in Denver. They’re coming up for the day to do most of the interior. Everything but Ty’s room, our spare room (that’s filled with stuff from Mom’s house) and our room will get painted. This means we need to take all the pictures off the walls and move a little bit of furniture. We don’t have a lot so even though it’ll be some work I don’t think it’ll be that bad. Lori and I do need to go to Home Depot this afternoon and pick out which color of white we’re going with.

Jag went to Emma’s until 9:30 last night and Ty spent the night at Sonny’s. Both boys are off this week for Winter Break. I’ll be in Denver by 9:30 and back here by 1 or 2. We had a unit down the driveway sell but aren’t sure for how much. It was listed for $820K but is larger than ours. Regardless it’ll help our value which is great.

It’s 6:14 now so I guess I’ll go. We’re looking at going to Hawaii for the kids break in April instead of New York as the weather there could be iffy still. We need to decide in the next few days as I have a $3800 ticket I have to re-book by the 16th or I’ll lose it. Lori goes to her Moms again this Thursday until Sunday. Too bad Dixie doesn’t live here. After a mechanical issue with their plane in Houston, the group from Ty’s class landed around 5 pm. They were supposed to get in at 2 so it was about a 3 hour delay. Anyhow, they all made it home safe. We had two of Ty’s classmates that we drove home with us but first up was a stop for food. Like Jag, the kids were starving. I guess they woke up at 5 am for their flight out of Juan Santamaria Airport. Ty’s trip was fun although his roomate was this kid who is a nightmare. We wrote about him years ago as he has some issues. He woke up every night screaming, had to switch beds with Ty, wanted Ty’s blanket and two pillows including the travel pillow Ty brought with him, and of course Ty gave him everything he wanted to try to help him out. Electronics were not allowed but this kid somehow snuck a phone in and spent most of his free time in his room on his phone. He also wouldn’t go swimming in the ocean. So you get the picture. Ty though, as Jagger says, is a very empathetic kid and that’s why they probably paired them up. Other than that, Ty said the trip was a blast.

They played soccer a bunch, went into the jungle, fed monkeys and saw all kinds of wildlife. They went to a few museums, saw a rap battle in San Jose, visited a slum and lived with their host family for a week. Ty said his mammatica, or house mom, cooked great food, (although Ty loves rice and beans) and was a great host. They had zero rain and went to spanish classes, learned to dance and participated in many other local customs. All in all it was a much better trip than Jag’s. He too looks like he grew as he seems much taller.

When we arrived in Denver we met Jeff and Tina for tacos and then found out Ty’s flight was delayed so we went to their house and hung out and watched Netflix. Luckily we met up with them so we had a place to hang for a few hours. We brought a bunch of tacos to go from the restaurant so the boys had something to eat when we arrived home.

Today Jag is meeting up with Emma and Ty is going over to Zoe’s. Looks like both boys have left us for girls. I told Lori now we’re basically cooks, chauffeurs, and a bank for the boys. It’s all part of raising kids. Lori is still sleeping and today Harley comes home. Not sure if we’re going to the gym, I need to check with the misses. That’s it, time to clean up a bit around here. After a long day in Denver we picked Jag and Sammy up at the airport around 7. Then it was off for Vail. First up was a quick stop at Chick Filet for some food. They rode with Lori as we had two cars but from what I understand, the trip was sort of a bust. Lots of gear wasn’t in good shape and the instructors were sort of unqualified. At one point Jag said they were promoting socialism and of course Jag being Jag, had to correct them and even quirk, “you should go to Venezulea for a week and then if you live, come back and tell us how it was”. That’s my boy! More to come later but at least he’s home and was exposed to another culture and part of the World.

Ty lands about 2 this afternoon and should be home around 4:30 or 5. We managed to get Jag’s room clean but will tackle Ty’s this morning. Lori and I were tired from our whirlwind trip but are up and headed to the gym.

Thanks for the comments yesterday. Robi, we’re going to Lady Gaga too! Not sure when but maybe we can go when you go. Ali, I was at the McCartney concert in 1976 too. It’s when Live and Let Die came out and I still remember the big sort of fireworks going off on each side of the stage when the song went “live and let die, then there was a big flash. And Robi, you’re right, 1974 was when Elton played here and most of the guys in the band were the same guys that you saw then, for sure the guitar player, Davey Johnston, the drummer, Nigel Olesson and the perconisist, Ray Cooper. So what were you wearing?

No snow today but I think more is on the way. Jag seems so much older and wiser. We keep forgetting he’ll be 18 in December, wow. I’m sure Ty will shock us as well. Time to go as we need to get to the gym and then pick up Mojo at 9. We’ll get Harley a little later this morning as she’s on a hike with some furry friends, ha.

Tom and Robi, I did talk with Jonny V last night and we’ve been talking about a reunion of sorts this summer for about 6 months with everyone from our high school days here in Colorado. More to come on this so standby as we’re doing something!

After a busy day at work, for both of us, we made it to Denver around 4:30 pm and checked into the Ritz Carlton. They upgraded us as I’m a Platnium Member. About 2 hours later we headed down to try to catch a cab to the show. As soon as I walked around the corner to the lobby, I recognized a family standing there. Turns out it was Dave and Sue, the parents of Jag’s grade school friend and classmate, Enzo. They were shocked to see us and rushed over and gave us big hugs. We really like them and it was great to see them. Turns out their friend was here going to the concert so they gave us a ride. Great timing! They want us to come by tonight but I don’t think we’ll have time. We all vowed to catch up this summer and have them come up to Vail.

We walked into the show and had great seats right up front. Soon after we arrived, the show started. There was no warm up act, just Elton John and the band. Now most of you might know who Elton John is but his band is just as famous. They too were all in their 70’s but played just like they did, (or better) when I saw them in 1974 and many other times. My pictures aren’t coming through on my computer in our hotel so I’ll post some tomorrow. In one word, the show was amazing. I was texting Tom, Robi and other friends as it was just like being 18 again. It was so surreal and hard to explain. It was incredible, like a flash back to our youth. We decided we’re going to more concerts and the one to thank here is my beautiful wife, Lori. It was all her idea a few days ago to go. I don’t think she even knew how great it would be, maybe she did, ha. She’s pretty amazing herself.

This morning we’re off to get her hair done and then will hook up with Tina for some lunch and shopping. Around 3 we’re headed to the car dealer to pick up Lori’s Range Rover. Seems a weight had come off a wheel in the snow which put it out of balance at highway speeds. The night before last when I called the dealer, he gave me a number to call yesterday morning and within 90 minutes they had a flatbed truck at our house to load it up and take it to Denver to fix it, all at no charge. We’ll get it this afternoon, leave our truck in Mom’s driveway and then go get Jag at the airport. On our way back up the hill we’ll stop and pick up the truck which I’ll drive home while Lori drives the kids in her car. Now that’s service!

I think we’re going to see The Who September 29th. I found tickets in the 9th row so Tom you’d better decide now if you want to go! We can’t wait to see Jag tonight and Ty tomorrow. Again I’m so glad Lori had us go to the concert. It’s hard to explain all the feelings. Elton talked about how blessed he was and how this journey of life over the past 50 years had been so amazing. It was an older crowd but in many ways we were all alike for 2 hours. He was so honest and real and you felt like you were just hanging out with him at a party.

Well time to get moving, I wish the pictures would come up but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Time to get ready and get on the Yellow Brick Road! We can’t wait for The Rolling Stones! Hold on, one picture came through, we were close! God Bless.

Ok it’s cold up here but it doesn’t seem out of the ordinary, but in Denver I guess it’s cold. The news is on full mode storm coverage and schools are closed. We’ll see just how bad it is as Lori and I are headed down this afternoon to go see Elton John tonight in concert. We decided to go and her doc told her to take the day and go for sure. We’re on the floor right up front so it should be a good show. Hopefully she’ll get out of work earlier rather than later.

We found a room at The Ritz Carlton for a couple hundred dollars which is a great deal. Must be because we booked last minute. We’ll spend the night and then get Jag and Sami (Dr. C’s daughter) tomorrow night at 6:30 when they land from Mexico. They’ll sure be in for a shock coming from 80 degree plus weather to this.

Last night I noticed an engine light on in Lori’s car so I called the dealer who gave us a phone number and this morning they’re picking it up and putting it on a flatbed and will take it to Denver. He said they’ll even bring it back up to us but maybe it’ll be fixed by tomorrow and we’ll just get it. This means we’ll take the truck down this afternoon.

It’s 5:50 am now and we’re trying to get a jump on cleaning both boys rooms. Ty isn’t home until Saturday so we’ll try to finish up Jag’s first. So time to get going as we have lots to do. Talk to you all tomorrow, GB.

It just started up here with a dusting on the ground but it is warmer than Denver. The news says 8 in Denver and 18 up here. Lori is off to the gym and I’m 45 minutes behind her. No more news from the boys and as they said, no news is good news. Jag arrives home Friday night around 6:20 and Ty on Saturday around 2:15. We’re going to try to get their rooms straightened out before they get home. We did move our painters back to next Tuesday.

I have calls today at 9:30 and 1:30. Good thing I didn’t go to Chiacgo as the weather here and there today is not good. Not much else going on. They did raise tuition at school about 10% which means another $5200! Unbelievable. Guess they do it because they can. It’s not like everyone is going to leave and go to public school as they’re just not as good up here. Oh well, keeps us working, ha.

My trip to Chicago was cancelled by United. I received a notification that they’re going to have freezing rain which would delay or cancel my flight today. When this happens they offer changes at no charge and recommend you change your travel plans. So that’s what I did. We have snow up here anyhow with more on the way throuhgout the day. I-70 is closed by Gypsum due to a rockslide and the highways are a mess so there you have it. I’ll do my business by phone which is ok and then will get out there in March when it’s a bit warmer.

We received an email from Ty’s teacher with some pictures that look great! They’ve done so much for only being there a few days. No word from Jag’s group though as they’re on an island with no power, water or anything. Hope he’s having fun.
