A Year of Change

2, 12, 7, 17, 27 or any combination of, have always been my favorite numbers. So today is a good day. Yesterday was too as I made a quick trip to return a bunch of unwanted gifts and worked out hard. For nutrition I had one avacado, 2 eggs and 2 pieces of bacon, and that was all. The first day is the most difficult so now that that’s over it’s all downhill, meaning I’m back!

While I was driving up, Jag called and said the carbon monoxide meter downstairs was going off. I called the plumber right away and thankfully they were there and gone to fix it before I made it home. Looks like some exhaust pipe on the water heater wasn’t hooked up right. This means every time the water heater was going full bore, it was spitting out high levels of CO, not good. As soon as it was fixed the levels dropped within minutes. Luckily Jag caught it and was smart enough to handle it. Meanwhile Ty was on the mountain and Lori was a work. They both beat me home arriving around 3.

Today Ty wants to go stay at Jacks for a few days. We’ll see though as I’d need to drive him down. Tomorrow I need to be in Denver at 6:45 am near Park Meadows to go bird hunting. This means I’ll be leaving around 5 am.

Jag leaves Sunday am at 8 for the ranch in Steamboat with Emma and her family. He’s going over there tonight to have Christmas with her. They’ll be up there for 3 nights. Emma’s family has some sort of time share up there where they get 6 weeks a year. It’s up the Elk River Valley towards Wyoming. We know the area well.

Ok, we do things a little bit different up here, always have. You see we like to get a head start on the World by starting our so called New Years resolutions or better yet, change of life habits, before the 1st. So today all sweets, carbs and bad food are gone. If we haven’t eaten them yet, they’re in the trash. Our tree also usually comes down today. Now this is pretty easy as we have a small tree with not very ornaments on it. First up though is a good workout. We might get down to Denver to return some items that have to go back but we’ll see. So here we go. It’s already 2019 as far as we’re concerned, let’s go!

Hope you all had a great Christmas. We woke up around 6 and after opening our gifts, showered and headed down to Tom and Ali’s. We made it there by noon as I had to wash the car upon arriving in town. We had a nice time and hung out until about 3 when we took off for home. We stopped by Rollie’s open house to meet her new boyfriend as they just bought a new house in Aspen and she wanted us to meet him. He was really nice and she was really happy we stopped by. We stayed about 15 minutes before heading home.

We made it home a bit before 6 and then watched some tv and ate a little food. Harley and Mojo were glad we were home. Kristin is at Dixie’s which is good news. We had planned on Dix being here for Christmas but she wasn’t feeling up to it.

Every day we wake up will now be the last day of the calendar that we’ll be in this house. This means no more December 25th’s, 26th, 27th’s and so on as sometime early December 2019, we should finally be in our new home. Knowing this we’re purging and throwing away stuff like Christmas boxes, wrapping paper and other stuff we don’t want to take to our new place. It’ll go fast as a year is not that long these days.

Time to get moving, hope you all are well. Time to start thinking about what you’d like to change in YOUR life. Just a hint, “resolutions” never work. You have to decide what you want to actually change in your life and then live the change. If it’s just a resolution, you’ll never make it as most people give up before February. This could be anything from how you treat people to an addicition to alochol, drugs or even food, (me, ha)  working too much, not getting enough sleep. or just about anything you can think of that’s negative in your life or holding you back. I’m going to stop reacting to things and getting upset when things bug me and just try to let it go. Also of course is no sugar, no carbs, no dairy and lots of working out. So, let’s go, be prepared to share what you plan on doing in about 5 days to make you happier. Of course if you’re 100% happy with who you are and your life, no need to do anything. Around here though, we all think there’s a thing or two we can do to improve our quality of life, God bless.

Yesterday went fast. Lori went to work, Ty to the mountain, Harley to daycare, I ran some errands and then Jag and I went to lunch. Then it was time to pick up Harley and Lori and off we went to Cowboy Christmas. Straight from there we went to dinner which was about the only dissapointing thing in the day. The restaurant, Vintage here in Vail, was a total bust. Bad service and so so food and it cost $500! Oh well, that’s in the past, no point in worrying about it now.

Today after a soon to be Christmas explosion here, we’re headed to Tom and Ali’s. We’re taking down some steaks and Lori made her famous potato’s. She also has some other stuff. We had snow most of the day yesterday and more is arriving tonight around dusk so we definetly have a white Christmas.

I was on the computer earlier looking for an email and the picture of Mom popped up on the ranch where she’s resting. I don’t know how it got there or how it popped up so maybe she’s watching and sending us all a message. If she was here she’d tell us to all get along (that’s all she ever wanted) and love one another and live in the moment. Sure nice presents are nice but the true meaning of Christmas and life for that matter, don’t include “things”. Funny how you figure that out more and more as you get older. So, we love you all, wish you peace and joy and happiness and eternal life. We’re so thankful you all are in our lives and wish we could all be together, but in the meantime, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It’s Christmas Eve, we’re here. Won’t be long now until the children are nusseled in their beds and out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, or however the song goes. So hold on and savor every moment.

Last night we went to the Frank’s for dinner. It was us, the Hetfields, and Luca Bruno and his wife. Luca would remind you of Antonio as he’s Italian and has a clothes store here in town. He’s hilarious and we always have a lot of fun. Our boys came along and we had another good time. We showed up at 7 so by the time we were home it was 11! I just woke up and told Lori it was 7 so we went into Home Alone mode rushing around like we were late for a plane. She’s in the shower now and I’ve called to both boys but don’t think they’re moving.

This afternoon we and the Frank’s and Hetfields are going to the Cowboy Christmas out at the ranch. It’s the place with the rockin cowboy band. That’s from 4 until 5:15 and then we’ll head into town for our 5:45 dinner reservation. Lori’s off to work, Ty wants to get to the mountain and Jag wants to go to Aspen for some last minute shopping and of course Harley wants to go to daycare. I think Mojo just wants the house to himself so he can relax and watch the Animal Planet show.

We’re getting close! Last night was our big sleigh ride and dinner out at 4 Eagle Ranch. We had a blast. Lori was saaying how short she is as she was in 3 inch heels!

First up Lori and Jag and I ran down to Denver for some last minute shopping which was four pair of pants for Jag and returning a few things. The storm was bad going down and I thought we might have trouble getting back up but it was fine. We did stop by Tom and Ali’s to say hi for five minutes and raid his refrigerator. He was making more cookies! Ty was on the mountain all day long hitting every single back bowl with his friend Will. Then around 5 wde headed out for the ranch.

We bundled up as it was cold and only going to get colder. We had arranged two back tables for our group of 18 and they gave us the VIP treatment. After everyone arrived meaning the other 40 people or so that had booked reservation months ago, they took us out first for a sleigh ride. It was really fun and James and I finally, after a few failed trys, got our whole group singing. Then we came back to a great buffet dinner. After a while they asked if we wanted to go again and I decided to grab Burt who was this older guy (probably my age, ha) who had been playing guitar and singing all night for the crowd, and took him on the sleigh with us. Not sure if he knew he was sitting next to the lead singer of arguably the most famous heavy metal rock band in the World but James and I were singing along with him the whole ride. On the first sleigh ride, like I said, we did too but soon forgot some of the words to some of the Christmas carols we were singing. Our whole group finally joined in and saved us, including even Lori! Now she’s a good singer but usually only sings in the shower. Anyhow we had a balst and Burt was very appreciative of the $100 we slipped him. Other people were wondering how come they didn’t get the guitar player to go on their sleigh ride. We all had a great time and great evening. It just night be a new annual tradition.

Today Ty wants to go back to the mountain. Not sure what we’re doing. I think we’re going to Marty and Melanie’s tonight. Jags hand is doing a little better and he’s only taking Tylenol and reluctant to even take that. Harley woke me early around 5:15 barking as she had to go out and was in her crate a lot yesterday. So here I am with everyone else still sleeping.

We both look like we had a little too much egg nog here but neither of us drink! Must have been too many ribs! Hope you all have a great day, Merry Christmas and God Bless.

Yesterday morning we were up early to get Jag to the hospital for a 7 am check in. When getting ready I was loading a case of Prosecco in the car and of course slipped on the ice in my leather soled cowboy boots and went flying. I landed hard on my right side and Prosecco was rolling down the icy driveway. Luckily nothing broke, Prosecco or me! I was a little sore by noon thinking, oh shit, I’m going to be hurting by this morning but I actually feel ok. Guess all my hard work at the gym paid off, ha. I was joking that a fall like that can take out other people my age with a broken hip, shoulder, arm, wrist or something. Anyhow I got up, brushed off the ice on my jeans, changed shirts and put a bandaid on the cut on my arm and off we went.

Jag was in and out by 9 am. He was in recovery until about noon and then we were back there for a custom brace fitting at 3;30. He was a little snarky (ok a lot but don’t say anything) from the anesthesia earlier in the day. By 6 pm he apologized for his attitude and was fine. Emma came by the hospital on her way to Denver with her Mom for their girls trip to San Francisco. I think they’re back tomorrow.

Meanwhile Ty was at school wrapping up the first half of the year. I picked him up around noon after my quick trip to Denver to get some cash for the architect. We did receive final DRB (Design Review Board) approval on our house yesterday so now we’ll order permits and in 60 days or so be breaking ground! It’s been a long time coming but our builder promises we’ll be in before next Christmas!

Tonight we have our sleigh ride, it’ll be cold but fun and no worries as we have the gear. Ty is meeting some friends at the mountain this morning and Jag, Lori and I are heading to the mall for our last shopping day before Santa arrives. Hope everyone is well, not long now, take care, God Bless.

Last night we made it to Matsuhisa for dinner by 5. That’s early but the only time we could get a table for 8. Ten minutes later Emma and her family showed up. 2 and 1/2 hours later we were all close friends. Courtney and Matt (Emma’s parents) are really nice down to earth people. Matt had renal cancer and a kidney transplant 9 years ago and really relishes every single day of life. He has a rough go of it every day just to be alive but seems like he’s doing ok. He and I both think alike in many areas and it seems our dads had a lot of the same values. They think the World of Jagger as he’s a perfect well mannered gentleman. Emma is adorable too and they really like each other and seem to be a really good fit. All of us parents did our best not to embaress either of our kids and I think we did pretty well.

This morning in about 40 minutes we all need to leave for the hospital as Jag needs to check in at 7. Ty needs to go to school to finish up one art project and then he’s done. Jag should be done sometime around 9 am and then get to come home around noon. I might run down to Tony’s or someplace to get him some comfort food. Christmas will be here soon, don’t blink, you might miss it!

You’re getting close to the last day you can mail your packages or envelopes to have them arrive by Christmas! Make sure to get them out! It’s also the boys last day of Finals with each having one today.

Tonight we’re going for sushi with Emma and her family and then tomorrow Jag has surgery, and then Saturday we have our sleigh ride and cowboy chuck wagon dinner out at the ranch. I rented the whole sleigh and we’re taking our rock star family friends, (I try not to put James last name in the blog so it doesn’t pop up in random internet searches) Marty, Melanie and their son Max and letting each boy invite 2 friends. Emma and her Mom are going to San Francisco for the weekend so they’ll be gone. Oh they’re taking Jag to the Nuggets Warriors game courtside January 15th for his birthday! That should be fun!

The boys Finals start at noon but I’m off to Denver and Lori has clinic so they’re going early today. I was up again just about every hour or two with my sinus headache. The heat set at 72 didn’t help either.

I sent an email to my entire team yesterday telling them to put family first. Now this is sort of out of charachter for me as I’m the King of Revenue and always on top of them to get their orders in. But last night I was sitting around thinking how fast the holidays are going by and wanted to make sure that they know that even though they need to do their job (which is hard sometimes to get them to do!) that it’s important to enjoy the season with their family. Their job will still be here the day after Christmas but the moments they can share with their family won’t. I think when you lose some of your family, (like Mom) it puts things into a different perspective. I received a few emails back and could tell some of my people were surprised at my email. I always say, keep them off guard, ha.

Time for me to get moving, Pebbles looks particularly fetching this morning. In case you don’t know, that’s Lori as she puts her hair up at night and looks like Pebbles from the Flintstones! Have a great day, be safe, enjoy every moment and God Bless.

Today’s my little brothers birthday. If I’m doing my math right, he’s 58. He always jokes when I say little brother as he is taller than I am. Anyhow Happy Birthday Tom! I love this picture!

Yesterday both boys had two more finals. Today they both have Science and then one each tomorrow and then they’re done. Lori is off today and I’m chasing a million dollars or more in orders still. If everyone would just do what they’re supposed to do, we’d be ok. We did hire a new guy today to work the streets of New York. He should be a good addition.

I think I’ve kicked the cold that was coming on. Luckily I caught it early and, knock on wood, think I’ve turned it around. Can’t get sick this time of year, too much going on.

Not sure what Tom and Ali are doing today. It’s hard when your birthday is so close to Christmas. He’s six days before and I’m four after. Hard to have a party right before Christmas or between Christmas and New Years. Oh well Lori and I read that December babies are smarter, healthier, live longer, are morning people, less likely to contract major diseases and are more successful and better looking than those not born in December. Ok I threw in the better looking part but it seems to be true! Hope he has a great day.

Time to get moving. Lots to do. I started a big purge yesterday by going through my dresser and closet and throwing out 3 bags of clothes I don’t wear anymore. There was a bunch of single socks that I finally gave up on finding the match for too. Add in some trash from the bathroom drawers and that was a good day. Oh, I also wrapped about six presents for Lori! Can’t wait for her and the boys to open their presents. It’s much more fun to give than receive these days. Today the boys have more finals, I think English and Language meaning Mandarin for Jag and Spanish for Ty. Tomorrow is Tom’s birthday, whoo hoo. Lori’s working away as am I. Thursday we have a dinner with Emma and her family and Friday am is Jagger’s surgery. I’m fighting off one of the kids colds, I think Ty’s. I went to the doctor just to make sure I didn’t have strep or something contagious. I’m a little stuffed but think I’m better today.

It’s 6:45 and we need to leave at 7:30. Lori is in the shower, Jag is up and I think Ty was moving but could be back asleep. I’d better go check, ha. One week until Christmas, God Bless.
