A Year of Change

Here we go, summer is underway. Lori and I are here drinking coffee trying to get both boys up to go to basketball practice in 30 minutes but they just don’t seem to listen. They’re so hard to get out of bed in the mornings. I told Lori that we told them, like 10 times, and now just let it go and if they sleep through practice, they sleep through practice.

We had a fun day in Denver yesterday and today are off to Aspen. I put together a deal with Ralph Lauren Polo for Aspen Food and Wine. I need to take some samples over and work out the details but they’ll be pouring our wine during the 4 day event. Should be fun, we love Aspen.

Been trying to stay away from politics but the hypocrisy from the left is laughable. Everyone is up in arms over Roseanne but the comments on the left, now and ever since Trump was elected are much much worse than the recent Roseanne tweet. Just yesterday you had a host call Ivanka “a feckless cunt”. Whoopi Goldberg was wearing a shirt saying “Make America Great Again” with a picture of Trump being shot through the head! You see if the left does it, it’s somehow ok but anything said by anyone who disagrees with them is deplorable, ha. I don’t know what’s happening to the Country. Right now, say what you will about Trump, but the economy is booming, North Korea is coming to the table and things are good. Yet anything, and I mean anything that is wrong, he somehow seems to get blamed for. Next he’ll be blamed for the weather, oh wait, they already did that saying that recent storms and hurricanes are due to his policies. Like any one person can change policies in 18 months that are going to change global weather, wow. Throw in a shooting this morning on I-25 in Denver which has shut down the highway and we’re glad we moved to the mountains. We love the bubble and the more we go the city, the more we know we made the right choice moving up here.

Time to go and hit the shower or take the boys to basketball, if they get up, God Bless.

• Yesterday after Ty and Jag went to play basketball at 7 am, Jag and I and Harley headed out to Denver but learned the highway was closed at Idaho Springs. So we decided to bag it when we were in Frisco and head back home. That means this morning we’ll give it another shot. Harley will go to daycare today and then training next week. Ty had a good last day with a pool party, a haircut and then graduation and then a school dance. Finally at 10 pm I picked him up and he was done. Now officially he’s in high school! Today in Denver we’ll get him some sort of graduation present and maybe a cake!

Both boys and I will head out by 8 and be back up sometime around 1 or 2. Tomorrow is June 1st, hard to believe. Lori’s doctor is back from his 3 week cruise next week but that doesn’t change things much as she’s busy whether he’s in town or not.

Ty’s graduation was great! He received an award for some reading program and should have been recognized for community service but the teacher forgot about it. It’s a public school on a low budget and they’re not the most together. Next year both boys will be back together at VMS.

Today after a quick stop at the distributor, Harley starts her training. She will be learning how tracking and a number of other things as well with Mark down in Parker.  It’s a long way but worth it as Mark is the guy when it comes to GSD training.

Jag worked out with our trainer yesterday afternoon. He’s on a new program to bulk up and jump higher. If anyone can do it, it’ll be Jag.

Ty has his last day of school today with a pool party and then Continuation which is like graduation. In between he’s getting a haircut in town.

We closed on our lot yesterday and are now landowners, ha. We’ll keep you posted. It’s warm up here and supposed to be warmer tomorrow. 99 days until football starts! Tommy let me know yesterday, yea! Time to get moving, have a great day and God Bless.

Back on the Program. That means work, working out, and eating right. Ty has school today and tomorrow and then he’s all done.

Yesterday around 12:30 we headed to Basalt for lunch and then zipped up to Aspen to pick up a sweater of Ty’s that’s been sitting there for months. We love Aspen and it’s especially nice when there aren’t many people in town. We left around 4 and were home by 5:30.

Today we close on our lot. We’ve been planning this out for years and are excited to get going. It’ll take 8 months or so to finish the project but when you think about it, 8 months is nothing. The biggest decision is are we ready to say we’re staying in Eagle for years to come. We decided even though we’d love to be somewhere warm, there’s not many other places than Colorado we’d like to “live”. So here we’ll be and then if we want to go somewhere warm, we’ll travel. California is too messed up, (too many reasons not to live there to even list), Hawaii is too far, plus it looks like it’s going to blow up, ha, the East Coast has too many people, and on and on. We’re lucky to live where we live so we decided let’s go for it. Eagle is about the same elevation as Denver so we’ll get an extra two months of summer and less of winter than here in Vail. Today is a day about honoring all those who serve, now and in the past. I remember when I was a kid and you’d see anyone in uniform. You treated them with a degree of respect reserved only for them. Nowadays though it seems that we sometimes dismiss their sacrifice and even look down on them. This of course almost always comes from the younger generations that have no idea what freedom means. They somehow think it’s an entitlement. I’m afraid one day there’s going to be a serious reset in this Country and then these same people will be begging for help by the very people they now ignore. That’s usually the way things work. You don’t care about something or someone until you need help. In any case I remember when I was a kid it seemed that every dad, uncle, or grandparent had served in some sort of fashion, so Happy Memorial Day.

Yesterday Lori and I made it through 80-90% of Jag’s room. We need to put the finishing touches on it today. Both boys went to the lake and went paddleboarding and fishing for a few hours. It was in the mid 80’s up here and really nice. I think there are storms down in Denver today but it’ll be nice up here. We’ll get after Ty’s room sometime today too.

We’re making good progress around here, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Hard to believe it’ll be June by the end of the week. We’re closing on our lot tomorrow so we’re all in on building our dream home. More to come on that soon.

Both dogs are awake and both boys are asleep. That seems to be the new trend around here these days. Time to go, have a great day and remember what you’re celebrating, GB.

We made it down to Denver, hit the bank, Bass Pro Shops and then the mall before heading over for lunch on the rooftop at Del Frisco’s. We had a nice lunch and then headed up the hill and still ran into some Memorial Day traffic at 3 in the afternoon. The boys basically dismantled their rooms which we guess is a start. When they clean, they tend to take ALL their clothes, clean and dirty, and throw them in the dirty clothes hamper. They don’t discriminate at all. Today after we go to the gym, we’re stopping to get Jag his fishing license and then sending the boys off to the river with their poles while we clean their rooms.

It looks like a warm one up here today, like in the mid 80’s. Harley spilled her food in the garage which I’ll need to clean today. Yesterday when I made it home I had to clean the garage too as Jag rode his bike into Vail to get a haircut at the 4 Seasons and moved a few things around (like everything) to get his bike out. Later in the day he went to shoot some hoops in town while we made dinner. I think today we’re having bbq chicken and beef ribs as tomorrow doesn’t seem to be as nice of a day.

3 days off, whoo hoo! Jag and for all practical purposes, Ty too, are both out of school. Hard to believe we have a freshman and junior in high school.

Today Lori and I are headed to Denver for lunch with Jeff and Tina. We need to make a few other stops so we’re getting together with them while in town. They’re going to Aspen with us for Food and Wine so we’ll plan that out, mostly what the girls will wear, ha.

My knee, after and MRI, looks to be ok. Ibuprofen and ice are the directions. I did workout with our trainer yesterday and even though we focused on core and arms, my knee was ok. Thank God I don’t need surgery. Our trainer told me I wouldn’t be able to shampoo my hair this morning as my arms would be too sore. I do feel them but so far I’m ok. He does have this new machine from Sweden that works off of your own force by moving some sort of flywheel. It’s hard to explain but it’s super cool. I’d love to have one at home but it’s like $3400! Anyhow it works your muscles in both directions which is what you need to effectively build muscle. Oh well, I know no one cares but it’s interesting to me and after all, this blog is to document our lives, ha.

Ty had his reenactment yesterday which they made a movie or documentary out of which we will hopefully see next week. Jag had Field Day and was done by noon and Lori cut out around 4pm. The boys are supposed to start their deep cleaning today on their rooms while we’re gone. We’re not sure what they’ll get done as we can easily see them watch tv and play basketball all day instead of working but we’re hoping for the best. One way or another, we have to get their rooms purged. At least Jag cleaned out his 50 pound backpack of all his school stuff which is a start

Yesterday Jag had his last final and then Prom at night. All the kids met up first at the Gondola Club for pictures before walking over to The Four Seasons for the party. They make the kids take a breathalyzer when they go in and when they leave. I guess they think some kids will smuggle in some alcohol somehow. Kids these days look a lot more grown up than I remember from when I was in high school. We’ll post pictures in the next few days of the group but the one below is of Jag and one of the girls from his class. Jag of course is 6’5″ and Charlotte is 5’11”. It was hard to stay up until 11 to pick him up.

Today Jag has Field Day which is an all school annual tradition full of silly games and teams dressed up in different costumes. Meanwhile Ty has the Civil War Reenactment down at Malloy Park. I guess they’re making a movie of it. All the kids dress up in Civil War period dress. Ty is a Sergeant Major I think on the Confederate side.

We’re trying to close on our lot today but need a cashiers check and I think I need to go to our bank in Denver to get one. I was going to just wire the $1100 but apparently I also need to go into the branch to do this, who knew, probably Tommy the banker!

It’s going to be a warm weekend. I think Lori and I are going to Denver tomorrow for lunch with friends, we’ll see. That’s it, time to get moving as it’s already 7 am. Have a great weekend and God Bless.

This morning Jag has his English final and then he’s all done for the year. Ty goes through next Wednesday and then he’s done too! Then it’s summer which is more basketball, camp, work and more. I’m off to Denver this morning after getting everyone where they need to go. I’ll be back in time to pick up Jag at school.

It’s one of Lori’s PA’s birthday today so she wants to leave early today too as she needs to get some stuff for the office. My knee is getting a little better, I think. Hopefully by tomorrow it’ll be closer to normal.

Only about a week left in May. There’s also only 2 days left in school for Jag and about 5 for Ty. Then the work around here will get serious. Both boys have a pass on their rooms until school is out and then there are no more excuses. I’d post pictures but it’s too embarrassing.

Lori has a half day today and Ty has late start and Jag has two more finals, math and Mandarin. I guess he did well, or so he thinks, on his science test yesterday. Finals are in the gym with desks set up everywhere evenly spaced out. There’s a lot more pressure in high school these days than I ever remember. Not sure I could do it.

My knee passed x-rays but is still a bit swollen. We’re giving it a day or two before having an MRI. Hopefully it’ll get better on its own. Not sure what’s going on for the holiday weekend. We might go to Denver for a party on Sunday, we’ll see.

Lori is off to the gym but I’ve been told to lay off for now with my knee, ugh. Have a great day, God Bless.
