A Year of Change

Today I have a 10:30 am meeting back in Denver. It’s cool outside but no snow. Mojo came home from the vet yesterday where he had spent three nights as they tried to figure out his stomach issue. Maybe it was because I switched food on him. We’re now back to his old food. Bode was also in the vet Tom said, I guess he had to have some $500 test for something, ugh. Pets health care these days cost almost as much as ours but you do what you have to do as they’re part of the family.

Jag has a big science test today. I think it’s a midterm. Tomorrow he has a math test. They have Park Testing all week at Ty’s school and Lori let him opt out. I think he’s reading or something instead. Jag wants to be at school early today so I should be in Denver by 9 or so. I’ll get some work in at Mom’s before my meeting at Applejack.

We’re looking at Arizona for Spring Break. There’s a great house on VRBO for like $200 a night! It’s in North Scottsdale with a pool and sits on 5 acres, we’ll see. Flights are super cheap down there now too that the baseball teams are all gone. I could do some work with my Partner who lives there so it might work out. Our other choice is Moab. One way or another we’ll be in the sun somewhere.

Here comes another big week, lot’s going on. Hope everyone had a great Easter. I texted Robert and Robi and she texted back she just came in from the pool, what???? We want to be by a pool! Man it must be nice to be down there in the 80 degree sunshine. When we hear that, we start thinking about going to Arizona for Spring Break!

I’m off to Denver this morning for a lunch meeting and then have another early morning meeting at Applejack tomorrow. Jag has some math after school and then volleyball. This coming weekend they have an all day tournament on Saturday in Denver. They might go down and spend the night Friday. Apparently the coach doesn’t know high school boys that well as if they go down Friday night, they’ll be up all night and won’t play very well on Saturday. I think Ty has Park Testing this week which is some standardized test that is a total waste of time.

Happy Easter everybody! Today is the holiest day of the year in case you didn’t know. I’m sure we all know the story of Easter and Jesus rising from the tomb but if you don’t, you should learn about it. Jag and I stayed up and watched the 10 Commandments last night. Funny as that was made in 1956 when I was born. We had a good time but that movie is like 5 hours long!

It’s a little after 8 and the boys are still sleeping. We dyed some eggs last night but will probably just put some in the boys baskets. A few broke while dying and they were not all the way hard boiled! Not sure where the Easter Bunny can hide them around here. There is a lot of clutter though so I’m sure he’ll find a good place.

Jag’s basketball tryouts went great. Ty’s will have his in a week or so as we didn’t know he could go yesterday. They’re having a second session for the kids who missed yesterday as a lot were on Spring Break or finishing the last week of ski racing. After that we went and met the architect down in Eagle to walk the property we might buy and build on. Next step is to get a topographic map so we’re sure what we’re dealing with. It’s a pretty lot with views of the Sawatch range on one side and a large mountain with valleys full of aspen trees on the other. In the Spring and Fall the colors are magical. We’ll see how things go.

Yesterday was a day like most others. Lots of cleaning at Moms and another drive down and up the hill while working at the same time. We’re on a mission as we need to get things out of there so the house can go on the market. The neighbor who bought George’s called and enquired about purchasing which is great but I told him we’re not going to fire sale it and he wouldn’t be getting the deal he did from George, as he basically stole that house from Moms poor old 94 year old neighbor! Anyhow more work to do and I think Lori and I will probably go down tomorrow to work some more.

Yesterday was Good Friday and tomorrow is Easter which means today should be some kind of special or holy day, you’d think. Just think, 2000 years ago Jesus was crucified yesterday and tomorrow he rose from the dead. I wonder what was going on for his loved ones and followers on the day between. Were they happy, sad, both, at peace, in mourning or did they have faith that everything would somehow be ok? One of the greatest things we get from God is faith. Without faith that there is a higher place or something after life on Earth, what would you have? I hope we all know that there is a God and you can and will be saved by embracing him. I know Mom did. We all have flaws whether it’s our egos or anger or pride or the way we treat our fellow man. All of us could do better, and the difference between some and others, is some people know they’re imperfect and know they need to try to be a better person while others don’t. Lori, I and the boys know we have flaws and know we can do better and that realization in some way provides some sense of purpose and peace. We actually feel bad and have sympathy for people we see that are stuck with no faith or are consumed with anger towards others. It’s just sad as anger does no one any good and is certainly not healthy! The good news is it’s never too late to let God into your life and change your ways. As they say, there’s no atheists on death beds! So I hope you all are happy. Life’s too short to hold on to anger and bad feelings, it’s just not worth it, or healthy either. Sorry for the sermon, it’s just helpful as a reminder to me that everyday I need to work on being a better husband, father, brother, uncle, son in law, boss, friend and person to those in my life.

Today Jagger has basketball tryouts for the Eagles which is the club basketball team here. He basically starts basketball now and will play until the middle of next February. Things sure are different from when we were kids! Ty was in town last night with three girls and a guy from his old school down in Denver who were up here for Spring Break. We’re leaning towards maybe driving to Arizona or Moab for our break in three weeks. Meanwhile last night Jag went to shoot some hoops at the gym at Talisa which is a local resort. Anyone can walk in for $15.

Lori and I will go to the gym after we drop Jag at 8:45. He’s done at 11:30. In the spirit of channeling Mom, we’re dying Easter eggs as a family later today. I grabbed some old baskets from the basement (from the 200 or so she saved) and of course there was some nicely wrapped up Easter basket grass labeled “Easter grass 1980”. I still get choked up just seeing her handwriting on things. I know she’s watching all of us and our every move and thought. All she wanted was for all of us kids to get along, not fight and be happy. Doesn’t seem like too much to ask. I hope she’s happy with all of us and that we’re living up to her expectations. I still miss her a bunch as I’m sure we all do. Tommy and I did find a bunch of fun things for Shelly that we started putting in big boxes. As I said earlier, there’s still so much stuff, ugh.

We’ve been loading James up daily with lots and lots of stuff to take to places like the Denver Rescue Mission or ARC. He’s even taking stuff like bags and bags of old Christmas bags! Mom didn’t want stuff thrown out so we’re trying to make use of all we can. We found lots of old kitchen bowls wrapped in newspaper from Shawano from the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Most are pyrex or that clay material. Sadly no one really wants them but I did take some of the old newspaper so later I could read about life in Shawano in the early 60’s! I’m still finding a bunch of Robi’s stuff! I’m going through this even though she said she doesn’t want anything as there’s some stuff we’re sending her anyhow. The way I look at it is if Mom chose to save it, there must have been a good reason. I did find a box of “Dougs Books” with some good books. I went through it and pulled out 3 or 4 I want to save. The attic still has a lot of stuff in it. I’m sure we’ll find some fun things up there. When I’m in the attic it seems like that Chevy Chase movie where he’s stuck in the attic looking through old memories, ha. Oh well, we’ll keep you posted if anything fun is found.

Jag’s up, all 6 feet 5 inches plus of him, with his legs draped across three chairs at the kitchen counter eating some breakfast. Time to get moving so we can get out the door within the hour. I hope everyone has a great day and has some fun plans for Easter. No politics today, we wish the World could just take a break and have EVERYONE get along. Who knows, maybe tomorrow will be the day! Happy Good Friday! Hope everyone has some nice plans for Easter. One of my fondest memories was being in Arizona with Mom and Dad, Tommy and Robin and going to The Palm restaurant for Easter brunch. I can see it clear as day as we were all sitting in this fabulous restaurant with all the pastries, fruit, and other foods on the buffet table. I’m not sure how old we all were but I remember it clearly. It was perfect weather and a perfect day. Mom was an expert at Easter egg dying and she’d always hid stuff for us, no matter how old we were. Good times.

Jag has basketball at 6:45 this morning and then I’ll head down to do some more cleaning at Moms. Tom and I are making progress but there’s a lot to do. Yesterday we managed to get the little closet in the basement cleaned out and the closet across from the washer and dryer. You wouldn’t believe all the old towels and useless stuff we found. Sadly nothing really cool.

The pass was closed again yesterday afternoon but hopefully is fine now. Ty went in to town after school as a bunch of his friends from Denver were up here on Spring Break. He’s going to go to a movie with them all tonight. Tomorrow Jag has tryouts at 9 in the morning so that means Saturday is occupied. Tom and Ali have a date day anyhow so we’ll take a break from cleaning.

It’s almost 6 so time to get moving. Did you see that a 36 year old man was radomenly beat to death by a group of teengaers in New Jersey. Now I know this is far away from most of us and an isolated incident but it is indicative of kids disregard for life these days. Unbelievable.

Mojo is still not feeling well. He had an accident on the stairs the other morning and we had to get the carpet cleaners out here right away. His stomach is still upset. Not sure what he got in to. That’s it, have a good day and may God Bless and watch over you.

It’s been a long week and we need a break. Too bad though as we have one more day after today and then on Saturday Jag has basketball tryouts from 9 to 11 for club basketball. I’m off to Moms today and both boys want to go to school early today. We have a dusting of snow outside meaning about an inch. The pass was closed most of yesterday afternoon and evening due to weather.

Lots going on with the tech overreach. Congress and even governments in other countries want Facebook to explain itself. Apple is calling them out too (ironic as they too track almost everything) and the big tech companies are fighting among themselves. The govt. is acting so shocked yet they’re the same govt. that used information from Facebook, mostly dems, for years trying to manipulate the public. Too funny.

On a brighter note, Hollywood is stunned as the Pro Trump show Roseanne reeled in over 18 million viewers and was the largest audience ever for a new show. It’s also turns out that less than 10% of the people in the March for Your Lives were teenagers or kids. Watching tv you’d think everyone there was a high school kid from one high school, ha. Oh well, anyone that believes everything they see on tv deserves what they get. Everything today, and I mean everything, needs to be verified!

Last night at 5:20 Lori, Ty and I were at his school for his conference. Ty had to make a website and explain to us what he’d been doing and learning over the past year. We learned more about his studies in 30 minutes than we have all year. It was eye opening as he did a great job and it was nice to see him present things to us. One common thing from all his teachers was, Ty is a social butterfly. He’s super popular and needs to reel in the talking sometimes. Everyone said how smart he is and that he can do all the work, it’s just sometimes he gets sidetracked, ha. I told him great job and that the good news is he is smart and can do all the work and that the only thing he needs to work on is working when it’s time to work and playing when it’s time to play. It’d be a whole different ball game if he wasn’t capable of doing the work, then we’d have some issues.

Jag’s conference is this morning at 8:50. He’s doing well as usual and if he has a B instead of an A somewhere it’s because he missed some class like when we were in Hawaii. He thinks he did well on his math test yesterday, it was 8 pages long! Lori and I can’t understand anything in his math.

Tonight we’re going to meet our builder friend down in Eagle to keep exploring what it’d take to build something. Jag has volleyball from 5 to 7 with the U18 (under 18 years old) girls club team. I’m sure that’ll be fun.

That’s about it, Jag and I will be heading to Denver after his conference putting us at Mom’s around 11 or 12 to clean some more. He’s real helpful as he can help carry this and that outside. We’ll keep working on the basement to throw out more trash. I told Shelly I’d box up a bunch of stuff for her if we find anything we think she’d like. With her being in such a small place she doesn’t have any room for anything. She’s anxious to move and I don’t blame her. It’ll be great for her to be close to Tasha and the girls.

This morning at 5 when I woke up, I looked outside to see no snow! Watching the news though, Denver has some. It’s hard to tell how much as the news exaggerates everything. I was thinking of going to Denver today but will postpone my trip until tomorrow.

Jag has a huge math test today. His teacher is brilliant at math but terrible at teaching. I don’t know how he ever became a teacher. The majority of the class is failing and after looking at his practice test, I understand why. Jag found a tutor that he went to twice as once things are properly explained to him, he gets it. Sadly his teacher just doesn’t “explain” things well. I’m not very happy as we’re paying a lot of money for his teacher to teach him advanced math and yet we have to pay another guy ($80 an hour) to teach him advanced math. Doesn’t make much sense. Jag gets so stressed out about his grades and is basically a straight A student except in this class. He’ll probably end up with a B or A- but it’s taking too much time and is too stressful. I told him he only has like 30 more days of class until summer and if he doesn’t understand something, just book the math tutor for another session. Jag won’t have to take this teacher again in high school while other kids who dropped out of his class or opted not to take it, will have two years left with this guy before graduation. Next week Jag selects classes for his Junior year and is planning on taking 3 or 4 AP (Advanced Placement or college level classes) classes next year. We suggested he think about that as the kid doesn’t have anytime to just be a kid.

Meanwhile Ty studied hard yesterday for a reading comprehension test today before his parent teacher conference at 5:20. Ty gets “test anxiety” taking tests and this one is timed which adds even more stress. Jag’s conference is tomorrow morning.

Lori has a long day and will have to go back to work after Ty’s conference at 5:20 as she has a deposition with Dr. C. He’s an expert witness in lots of trials and she needs to be there basically as a legal assistant with all necessary data and to interpret for him. She should get paid a whole lot more, ha!

Our friend Michael’s knee surgery went well. He’ll be in PT this morning at 7:30 am. I guess he’s also having an mri on his shoulder.

Facebook sure is in trouble, people are leaving left and right as it now turns out that they track and “capture” every single phone call and text from people who have it installed on their Android phone, not good. Ty deleted Snapchat and Instagram on his own yesterday which is really a big deal! We’re so proud of him for making that decision on his own. Also the so called March for Lives turned out to be nothing more than a staged protest, which was much smaller than reported, that was financed by liberal billionaires who are desperate to hang on to big government and control the people.  Who do you think flew all these kids in to Washington D.C and paid for their hotel rooms and expenses? What’s really funny as these kids that protested to have some of their rights taken away in Parkland Florida, are now upset that some of their rights have been taken away. It seems the school will now only allow clear backpacks and students are upset saying, now get this, why should they be punished because a mentally ill guy with a gun shot up people. What? How ironic is this, they don’t want to have to carry clear backpacks because it violates their right to privacy as “they” didn’t do anything wrong but want all legal gun owners to give up “their” guns because they didn’t do anything wrong. Bwaaaaah ha ha ha. As I said before, it’s easy to lose your rights but almost impossible to get them back.

They say March is our snowiest month and even though it’s been a light winter, this seems to be true. Tonight and again Thursday we’re supposed to get some snow. Throw in a busy week with kids on and off school and a few trips to Denver and the end of the month for getting orders in, and we’re busy. Ty is off today and Jag is off Wednesday. Ty has his parent teacher conference tomorrow and Jag on Wednesday. Our friend Michael (Michael and Jeannie who went to Italy with us and the Bocelli concert with Robi and Robert) arrived last night as he tore up his knee in Jackson Hole and is having an mri in 15 minutes and probably surgery later today.

I was supposed to go to Italy in a few days but am going to cancel. Thank God I managed to get out of this one. I talked with Shelly yesterday on her birthday and she’s doing well. She had some friends over and had a good day. Ali is in Arizona but comes back today, hope she had a good visit with her parents. For our anniversary, we deep cleaned the kitchen, living room and master bathroom. Our bathroom has never been so clean! I think I’m going to wrap things up so I can be the first one in the clean shower, ha!

April is right around the corner meaning mud up here from all the snow melt which also means things will soon be green. When I was in Houston a week ago, one thing I noticed was just how green everything was. It was like Spring down there. Can’t wait for that up here.

Hard to believe it’s been 18 years. I must have wrote about this day 7 times since we started the blog. Words alone can’t express how much I love my wife, but I believe she knows. I always tell people “I lucked out” or “I married up” when talking about my beautiful wife, which is 100% true. I can only hope that we have another 18 years together that are as fun and fulfilling as the past 18. It’s so important not to get caught up in the day to day minutiae that is so easy to consume a moment or derail a day. We’re all lucky to be here and be with someone we love. Don’t take that for granted! Marriage is not always easy but I can’t imagine being alone without my best friend, companion and love of my life. Happy Anniversary Lori!

Today is also Shelly’s birthday! I don’t think she reads the blog but Tasha, if you’re reading, make sure to tell her Happy Birthday from us.

Yesterday after driving around and walking some lots, we dropped Jag at Ethans and they then went to a movie in town until I picked them up at 10. At 9 I picked up Ty and Jack who had been in town since around noon. Today Jacks parents will pick him up around 1.

Not sure what we’re doing today. Hopefully getting a little rest. I think we’ll head to the gym again as we love it. Have a great day, God Bless.
