What a day

Here’s a comment from the misses,

At 4a.m….I…the misses… went downstairs to let Mojo outside and put Lacey in the crate. Mojo was barking, whining and pushing his 30lb paw on the crate door. Lacey was waiting patiently to get into the crate…

Yes she did,  anyhow, what a wild freakin day. It started out with me going to the gym as usual as I said. Then when I finished up with my shower, the misses and I sat on the couch and watched the rest of the Men’s Olympic road race (bicycles). It started at 4am our time so it was over about 9:30 as it was 165 miles. It was a good race, we sure enjoy the Olympics. The youngest wanted to play with his friend so the oldest and I went up to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer shoot that my friend and his girlfriend put on every year. Now hold onto your hats as this is where you actually get to shoot fully automatic machine guns. Lots of off duty policemen who are also friends of mine, volunteer to help. The oldest was quite excited and when we arrived my friend who’s the owner, took care of us personally. Taking into consideration the oldest guys size and the various recoil of specific guns, we selected a couple for him and after some extra safety instruction, he was off firing away in 5 to 10 shot bursts. He had a blast and was quite the shot. My friend commented “he’s a great shot, just like his dad”.  As I said, they put this on every year and raise $20,000 to $25,000 dollars and then always have a party at his house afterwards. We said we’d try to stop by later if we could.

Meanwhile the misses was at home and the night before we had noticed one side of her chest was swollen. In the morning it looked even more swollen. We had decided before we left that she’d call the on call physician to make sure everything’s all right. Now our doctor left for France Friday so we had to wait for a call from the doc covering for her. The doctor (Tanya) had the misses email some photos of her breasts to her to see what was going on. On her first try she got one letter wrong in the email address so some lucky person somewhere received an email of 2 nice looking breasts! After reviewing the photos and talking to us she decided the safest thing to do was to go to the hospital for a ultrasound. So off we went. We arrived around 12:30 and had the run around for about 20 minutes before we had an “order” for the ultrasound. It went fairly quick and within 30 minutes we were back on the phone with Tanya, the on call doctor. She told us right away the radiologist said it looks like a blood clot and a hematoma meaning internal bleeding. So that settled it, and hour and a half later after she could get her team to the hospital, the misses would be back in the OR for surgery. We went back downstairs to get admitted and then went up to the same place where she recuperated 10 days ago to get prepped for surgery. We were actually the only ones there as it was Saturday. Soon we had a bunch of nurses and doctors with us and then Tanya arrived. She explained everything and 15 minutes later, the misses was in. It all happened so fast!

I ran home to feed the dogs, check on the kids, turn on the lights and then head back to the hospital. The misses was out of surgery before I jumped in the car to go back as Tanya had called me to tell me everything was fine. So we arrived at the hospital at 12:30 and she was out of surgery at 4:50, wow, can’t do that in Canada or the U.K. or probably any country with socialized medicine! I arrived and the misses was awake and doing fine and 15 minutes later we were on the way home. It turns out it wasn’t a hematoma after all but rather about 200 cc’s of plasma (about a dixie cup full) which is the yellowish fluid that you sometime get if you scrape yourself and it oozes out. This was nothing the misses did (like over doing it) or anything, just something that happened in the initial surgery, or so the doctor thinks.

Anyhow we made it home safe, called Uncle T and Aunt B where the boys had been for the last hour (they were at the neighbors most of the day) and I got the misses in bed. Imagine if you will, showing up at the hospital for a test and bam, you’re in surgery, kind of scary anyway you slice it. The misses handled it in her usual tough way. She’s one of the toughest people I know.

Well thank God for watching over the misses. Tanya said it was great the misses caught the swelling as most people would have overlooked it which would have been the wrong thing to do.

Hopefully today is a calmer day with no drama, take care and God Bless

The Olympics and 7 comments in 2 days!

Ok, this must be a record, 7 comments in 2 days! Whoo hoo. Here they are,

  • robi says:

    Hawaii? I’m in!

  • Annette says:

Aunt Jean reads everyday, she just doesn’t comment.

  • Tom says:

    Just for the record,
went to the neighbors to celebrate his birthday. Our anniversary
Was the 24th. You bet I’m looking forward to the Olympics, go USA!!!

Ok, now who stayed up for the Olympics opening ceremony? I saw the beginning all the way up until the teams started walking into the stadium and then fell asleep only to wake up right when the last team walked in and then saw the torch being lit and all the other celebratory stuff including Hey Jude. I have to say, it might have been the best opening ceremony yet. I am biased though as it was heavy on music from England which is what I grew up with.
I woke up around 4am with Mojo crying to get outside and stayed in bed for about a half an hour. After feeding the dogs and making some coffee, I turned on the boob tube (not the wife!) and the Olympics were on! I watched a bit while reading the paper and headed off to the gym. Every year when the Tour de France is on or every couple of years when the Olympics are on, it’s much easier to exercise. You kind of feel like your part of the race, so I got in a 2 mile run on the treadmill and then 6 miles on the bike for an hour total of cardio at the gym as they have tv’s all over the place for you to watch while exercising. Another hour of lifting weights to music on my Ipod and I’m home.
The misses was up at 6 and didn’t sleep well as she’s still real sore as she does too much. She says she just sees something and picks it up without thinking so I think I’m going to have to tie her up! The youngest is down now sitting on the couch with us. Last night we decided that we’re laying off Wii (video games) and all electronics for a week. The youngest and his little friend can get so sucked in and play for hours on end. After playing, he’s just a pill.
He had a play date at his friends yesterday while the oldest stayed home. We took the dogs in for a long overdue grooming and I picked them up around 5pm. Man does Mojo have a lot of hair.
Not sure what all we’re doing today, Lorenzo (my italian partner from NY) arrives Monday night for a week. We’ll be in Steamboat Springs for the wine festival next Thursday until Saturday at noon when we have to be back in Denver. Hope all’s well, take care and God Bless and enjoy this intentional break from politics!

Now we’re talking

  1. Tom says:

    I’m here daily!

  2. Annette says:

I think the schools should spend more money on mental health programs for K-PHD programs. Serena has a girl friend in a PHD program at the Univ. at Fort Collins and she has been under a lot of pressure. She feels isolated and hasn’t made many friends. She talks to Serena on the phone but it’s been hard for her. I don’t think she will do anything stupid. Girls cope by talking to their friends, boys cope by playing video games 24/7. I think this boy wanted someone to stop him. He sent a plan to a school phycologist that sat in the mail dept. for 8 days. I don’t know how you stop this kind of thing. I guess love your kids, teach them to be a good friend and listener and as a parent keep your fingers crossed. This is depressing. Lori take it easy and don’t worry all the house work will be there when you get better.

  3. robi says:

Yep I read daily too – don’t have internet at home so I read the week-end posts on Monday. I really enjoy it – thx!

  4. Dixie and Don says:

Yes, I’m here!! We tried to read Lor’s E-Mail, but no luck. Uncle Bill received two units of blood on Monday. and he is feeling great. They must have given him the high octane instead of the old regular. He really looks and acts like the dear old boy we used to know. You haven’t told us of the outcome of the swim meet. I’m sure Jagger did great. Must I remind you that today is Mick Jagger’s 69th Birthday? Love Mom

Alright, 4 comments, thanks. Due to your participation, I will refrain from politics today with one exception, the U.N. Arms Treaty. It sounds good enough right? An arms treaty makes one think of some sort of agreement to stop the proliferation of arms, right? Well nooooo, this is a treaty where Iran and other rogue states have the ability to submit items that would control Americans right to bear arms as our founders intended. Does anyone think Iran will follow any treaty? They must be laughing. Thankfully 51 U.S. Senators (dem and gop) have pledged to oppose it but it looks like the Pres will sign it for some strange reason. Ok, that’s all, just cannot believe it.

Yesterday the boys swam in the am and you guessed it, I was on the phone. The youngest had a play date from 11am until 3 and I took the oldest with me to Boulder to deliver some wine. Earlier in the am, like 7am, I ran across town to the distributor and today I need to be out the door at 7 am (45 minutes) for a quick trip before a conference call at 10am. Today is the boys last day of swimming until the fall session in about 6 weeks. Mom is determined to have them swim all winter long.

Uncle T and Aunt B’s anniversary was a few days ago but I think they celebrated last night at their neighbors. Happy Anniversary!

It’s still hot and I checked out the Framers Almanac yesterday and it’s supposed to continue for a few more months, oh boy.

The misses did too much again yesterday, she just won’t listen (I’ll bet Grandma Dix can relate!) as she needs to take it easy. It’s only been 8 days and she’s supposed to take it slow for something like 5 or 6 weeks!

The Olympics start today. Uncle T will be glued to the tube for the next 18 days or so as he’s a big fan. I am too but just don’t have the time to watch them. We will catch a few events in the evening but that’s about it. Go U.S.A. Maybe we can all forget about the economy, politics, and crazy people for a few weeks. Hopefully nothing bad will happen over there.

Hard to believe how fast the year is going, I’ll bet Uncle T is thinking of getting his Christmas lights out and we won’t be far behind. Maybe we should all go to Hawaii for Christmas! Now there’s an idea. I don’t mean for the actual day but maybe a week or two ahead, sound good?

Time to run, my coffee is cold, I need to shower from my workout at the gym, get some sort of food and hit the road. God Bless,

Ok, where are you all? Don’t any of you have anything to contribute? Come on, let’s hear from you. Today we would like everyone to post a simple “I’m here” if you read the blog. We would like to know how many of you are actually tuning in each day.

Yesterday we all went to lunch with our friends which was nice. The rest of the day was spent cleaning up a bit, addressing lots of emails and trying to get the misses some rest. It’s hard to believe it’s almost August 1st. Soon it’ll be fall.

Today we have the “I’m here to inflame any tragedy to promote myself” Jesse Jackson coming to town to hold a gun control protest. I can’t stand these guys. They rush around the country whenever there’s some tragedy they can exploit to keep their irrelevant personalities in the limelight. A few months ago they (guys like Jackson and Al Sharpton) rushed to Florida to try to ignite a racial divide over the Travyon Martin shooting and now he comes here to exploit this tragedy. First off, everyone talks about the shooters “high capacity magazines”. Well these don’t work very well and the news doesn’t tell you this guys “magazine” jammed after  a few shots and was worthless. I don’t care about 100 round magazines, none of us that pursue shooting sports as a hobby do as they are not practical and just don’t work, plus they’re too heavy if loaded up. On the other hand, any experienced shooter can change magazines and shoot as fast or faster than someone with one of those anyhow. Know what you’re talking about before you get up on tv and start running your mouth. But noooo, the tv stations are just looking to inflame these events also to get ratings. Violence and tragedy sells, showing a nice story about somebody doing something good doesn’t get any ratings now does it. Now we have Mayor Bloomberg suggesting that police here go on strike until they get more gun control. What he apparently doesn’t know is that police support law abiding citizens having concealed weapons. Soon after his lawyer must have reminded him that it’s illegal for police to strike and had to say “well I didn’t really mean for them to really go on strike”, what an idiot. Chris Christy, Governor of New Jersey said “let the police in New York go on strike and see how that works out for him”.

It’s no coincidence that Chicago has the highest murder rate in the country and the most restrictive gun laws while places like rural states and cities where citizens have the right to own and carry firearms have the lowest murder rate. It’s that simple. Once again we have one incident that everyone who doesn’t like guns is trying to use to paint all gun owners as wackos. There’s a reason our founders wrote the Second Amendment, if you don’t understand it, I suggest you read the constitution.

And oh by the way, all that guys like Jackson and Bloomberg are doing is increasing gun sales as law abiding citizens are afraid of not being able to exercise their rights under the constitution so they’re going out and buying guns now!

Ok, that’s it for today. Once I get some new comments from you all I’ll have something new to write about. Until then, I guess I’ll just keep writing about the news of the day.

God Bless

We need our new bed, bad!

Man is my back sore, and the wifey isn’t too comfortable either. We have holes in our mattress that rival the Grand Canyon! I’m thinking of just sleeping on the floor for a bit and the misses has to sleep propped up from her surgery. Not good for our moods.

Yesterday I was running around from here to there and today will be more of the same. I need to be IN Boulder by 9am and then home by 11 to grab everyone to go to a business lunch. The boys will be going along with the misses and I to meet Jim and Jane, friends and associates from the wine business. Later in the day I need to box a little wine and then either this afternoon or tomorrow I have a conference call with Seattle and the accountant on how to position our stock within our various companies to get the best tax rates. I’m not going into politics today, (really) but anyone who tells you taxes have been cut on small businesses, (the Pres) is full of crap!

The boys will be back at swim team this morning and then have some school work to do. We’re stepping up their work load to get ready for school which starts August 2oth.

Time to run to the gym, have a great day and if you like soda pop, watch out as Mayor Bloomberg is trying to ban them!

A long day

I finally wrapped up the day at 8pm after dropping off Alessandro and Rita at their hotel. This morning they have a 6am flight to Chicago. Meanwhile the boys went swimming yesterday with Andrea and her kids. Earlier in the am the misses and I went to another post op appointment where the doctor said she’s doing fine.

I’m not sure what all they did yesterday as I was gone. It looks like the news is back to politics today with lies and more lies being spread by the incumbent. Sorry to dive in but even Factcheck.org (the unbiased company that rates the truth in advertising) is blasting the democratic campaign for misleading ads. Today we also have Diane Feinstein, the senior democratic senator from California saying the White House leaked classified information to make the President look better, nice, real nice. I’ll stop now as I don’t want to make some of you mad but this has to stop. Where’s Bill Clinton when you need him?

Here’s one for you, did you know that starting next year there’s a new tax on selling a house that’s in the health care bill. When you sell your house, 3.8 % now goes to the government to fund the health care bill which turned out to cost 3 or 4 times what we were told. So if you sell a $400,000 house, you now have to pay $15,200 in new taxes right off the top, nice, real nice. They sure snuck that one in under the radar. The National Association of Realtors is up in arms trying to stop it but most people don’t know about it or other new hidden taxes (there’s 20 of them) related to the health care law that will supposedly save us all money. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and Google it as it’s true. You will find out about some of these taxes when YOU have to pay for one but by then it’ll be too late to do anything about it.

I could go on and on but I can’t let this consume me. I just pray everyone will think for themselves and not be swayed by slick rhetoric from a skilled orator. This is maybe the most critical election we’ve had certainly in my lifetime and people need to take more than a casual interest. One must look at everything, not just one issue on either sides platform.

Ok ok, sorry to those I’ve offended, I’ll run now as I can’t seem to stop myself. It’s just so upsetting to see our freedoms eroding almost daily.

God Bless

Busy Monday

Here’s a comment from Grandma Annette,

Annette says:

Cutting For Stone was one of the first books our club read. I think it is one of my all time favorite books. We had a chance to see the doctor that wrote the book in Modesto but it was one of those foggy days in winter and we didn’t go. He still works at Stanford Hospital. Glad you are feeling better. Don’t do to much! Love you guys.

Yesterday was busy but enjoyable. The oldest and I headed out to the swim meet at 5:45 and arrived home about 9:15am. He swam well and beat his head to head match up in the relay. We’re not sure if their team qualified for state or not as we left when he was finished. The youngest slept in until 8:37 which makes all the difference in the World. At 11am we picked up the Bocci’s, our winemakers and friends, and headed off for the day. First stop was Red Rocks which to them was like seeing the Eiffel Tower or something. I guess we take its beauty for granted. Then we headed up to Evergreen where we stopped at the lake and let the boys wade and catch tadpoles and crawdads. It was perfect up there as the temp was about 80 degrees instead of the sweltering 100 in the city. They were amazed that we could build homes in the forest as this is not allowed in Italy. In fact, the size of home you can build is based on how much land you have. For example, if you have 10 acres, you might be able to build a 1000 square foot house and that’s it. If you wanted to build a 1500 square foot house, you’d need to own more land, WOW.

We then headed down the hill as the girls had a 3:15 appointment at our friends spa. We dropped them while we left the boys with Uncle T for 30 minutes. Alessandro and I then came back to the house, picked up the boys and waited an hour before it was time to get the girls. I had ordered a bunch of sushi for dinner which was great. We picked this up on the way home and all enjoyed it for dinner. Around 8pm I took them back to their hotel. Today I will get them around noon and be on the go until about 8pm.

The misses has another doctor appointment at 11:15 this morning. The youngest has a play date while the oldest will probably go with mom. Hie friends mom called the misses over the weekend asking if she could leave her neighborhood pool and join ours. When the misses asked why she replied that she had accidentally disrobed down to her swim suit top and underwear not realizing that she had on no swim suit bottoms! I saw her at the meet where she could only laugh about it but was mortified. She said she just stood there for a bit watching her kids getting ready to jump in when she looked down and realized she was standing there in her underwear, poor Andrea. I told her at least she wasn’t wearing a thong!

Everyone is still sleeping and as the misses said yesterday, you can’t get away from the news coverage of the shooting here. It’s just over the top, too much. Only time or another tragedy that will garner more ratings will make a difference. At least our democratic governor said “no law would have stopped this guy” which is true. But of course you have numerous nobody politicians trying to make a name for themselves calling for all guns to be banned. How do these people get elected in the first place? As the news pointed out, the guy in Norway that killed 77 did so with some of the toughest gun laws in the World. If the government would just enforce existing laws from immigration to guns, things would be  a lot different. This guy was obviously sick as he dressed up and acted out as the Joker from Batman. While laws didn’t stop him from purchasing a gun, gun advocates such as the owner of a range he applied to join, did deny him and note that something wasn’t right. My point is, banning all guns is not the answer. Look at your history as the banning of the citizens rights to keep and bear arms is essential to a free society. There’s a reason it’s the 2nd Amendment and in our Constitution. Now this doesn’t mean I’m against banning things like 100 round magazines but who decides? Some democratic mouthpieces are saying things like “how can a guy purchase 6000 rounds of ammo?” Well, there’s been many months where I and friends have shot off much more than 6000 rounds. In fact most people I know buy their ammo in 1000 round cases as it’s more economical. We can’t let one madman take away our freedoms and rights under the Constitution. Too many of our rights are being stolen from us in the name of “it’s good for you” as it is. Where does it stop? I was watching Mayor Bloomberg in NY this morning who is outlawing all kinds of food from large soda’s to fried food. You have to be able to make these decisions for you and your family on your own or sooner or later it will affect you. We’re turning into a nanny state, passing law on top of law is not the answer. In fact there are so many laws the government can’t enforce them anyhow. Some would shock you, I promise. Oh well, enough for today but watch out for politicians passing laws in the heat of the aftermath of horrific events “for your own good” as they never turn out that way.

A friend just called saying the Today Show just showed a guy buying a gun on line from an individual without a background check. First off this is illegal just like buying drugs from a guy on the street. Both should go to jail, period. Second, this has nothing to do with the shooting in Aurora as the guy passed background checks and would have passed any background check for anything whether working at a pre-school to flying an airplane to being a cop. There was nothing in his background to alert anyone that he was crazy and demonic. Face it or not, there are just some of those people walking among us. It was also pointed out that this guy targeted this particular theater as he knew through research that they did not allow concealed carry firearms in the theater. He also apparently chose Aurora as they also don’t allow concealed carry. So he purposely picked a place where he knew no one, if they were following the law, would be carrying a gun. Hmmmm.

God Bless,

League Meet

Good morning.  The Mister and the oldest have already departed the house for the swim meet.  They had to be there at 6:20 a.m. for warm ups.  I just spoke to them on the phone and our oldest guy was making his way to the water to stretch out his sleepy muscles. The youngest is still sleeping and I am on my second cup of java.

We took Alessandro and Rita to our friends lovely home for a BBQ last night.  They recently had an outdoor fireplace and pergola built…the yard is stunning.  We had great food and conversation.  Rita understands most of the english we speak and she brought along a dictionary for words she needed translation for.  Smart lady! We all had a great time.

Tina’s niece is visiting from Texas and a mutual friend, Jessica was there as well.  The Mister and I both received texts from Tina to not mention Jessica’a husband..very cryptic…of course we jumped to the conclusion that he probably had an affair and they have only been married a couple of years.  Jessica left after appetizers and Tina filled us in that this was the first time that she had been out since Jessica’s husband had sent a text… “I am so sorry”.  He then went in their garage and shot himself.  We were so stunned and saddened by the news….it is just unthinkable.  We had been out with them for dinners and get togethers and Chris always seemed so full of life….they really shined together.  The worst part of this news is that Jessica had just found out that she was  pregnant and then miscarried at 5 months. I can’t imagine the pain she is going through.  How do you not just crawl in your bed and not come out? We sure have a renewed perspective on life….bills, repairs, head aches are all really nothing in the grand scheme of things. We are usually glass half full people anyway…especially the Mister, so take time to hug the people you love or make a phone call for a 30 second “I love you” or post a comment. Count your blessings and know that we love you all.

The news about the “Movie Massacre” is devastating…the media is now playing funeral music while posting pictures and names and ages of the people including a 6 year old little girl that died in the shooting. Seriously…every time they break for a commercial and every time they come back from the commercial break. Personally, I am very disturbed by this…also infuriated that some idiot took a 6 year old to a midnight movie.  The Mister always tells the boys that nothing good ever happens after midnight….mainly because that is when the crazies are out and oh my gosh was this guy crazy.  One of our government officials (D) said..”Wasn’t there just one person with a concealed weapon that could have taken this guy out?” I wish there would have been…at least then we wouldn’t have to use our tax dollars for his trial. Truly, this is a horrific tragedy…there is one story of bravery to come out of this.  There was a retired Veteran at the movie and when the first shot was fired he thought who would set of a fire cracker in a movie theater…the next bullet ricocheted off the seat next to him and hit a young girl a few seats away.  He pulled her to the ground and laid over the top of her for the next 90 seconds until the shooting stopped. He flagged down help for this young girl he didn’t know and she is expected to make a full recovery. Random acts of kindness and bravery…

On to better news….we are taking the wine makers to Red Rocks this afternoon and then to lunch at a restaurant on the banks of Bear Creek River.  Tina offered to get Rita in for a massage at Woodhouse (the spa that Tina owns) and I am getting a manicure…yea for pretty hands and friends that own spas.

I am healing well and it seems that my head ache is subsiding…knock on wood, thank you god and keep those prayers coming. I am going to continue to take it easy…although I would really like to vacuum the triple layer of mutt hair covering our floors.  I’ll save that job for the oldest…the youngest said he would prefer to clean bathrooms.  I asked the oldest to unload the dishwasher yesterday and then to put the load of laundry from the washer to the dryer.  He did all of it with no complaints and when I asked him to then pick up some items that fell on the floor he said, “I don’t know if I can do all of this for a whole month.” I said, “Oh sweetie, it’s not a month…it’s forever.  You are old enough now for these things to become your responsibilities and that way you can earn allowance.” I’m not sure that he is too thrilled about this news, but I am excited for the extra help.

The book club books that I am reading are “Still Alice” and “Cutting For Stone”. Still Alice was a quick read…a heart wrenching story of a Harvard Professor that is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s and Cutting For Stone is a really well written story of identical twins whose mother…a nun.. dies during child birth and the doctor that delivers them takes them in to be her own.  I am only halfway through and I am enjoying every page.

The Mister wrestled with our oldest yesterday multiple times. After the last bout he came in to tell me that our guy is quite strong.  I already knew this since we were playing one day pre surgery and he almost knocked me off my feet.  I think he grew another inch as well…the top of his head was to the bridge of my nose and this morning he is mid forehead on me.  I certainly hope he is gaining height and I am not losing it.

A special “Thank You” to Uncle T and Aunti B for once again taking the boys out to dinner   and then back to their house while we entertained the wine makers.

Have a great day and God Bless.

The party starts

This morning at 11am Alessandro and Rita Bocci arrive at the airport. They are husband and wife winemakers from Italy that will be with us until they fly to Chicago Tuesday morning at 6am. I’ll pick them up and then take them to their hotel and then probably go grab them for lunch. This evening we’re going to our good friends Jeff and Tina’s for a bbq. We called them last night and invited ourselves to their great house on Cheeseman Park for an impromptu party. I had to have something to do tonight and didn’t want to have them at our house as the misses would end up doing too much.

Tomorrow am the oldest has his league championship swim meet at Columbine and then I think I’ll run them up to the mountains. Monday we have a lunch and then a tasting from 5 until 7 in Boulder. Not really good timing to have them here but they’ve been in Seattle and Oregon and are headed to Chicago and we needed to fill in a couple of days.

Yesterday at 12:30 we had our first post op appointment and I’m happy to report that the misses is doing great. Aunt B and Uncle T took the boys for us and they all went to lunch at Woody’s Pizza in Golden. I think someday I’ll let them take me to Woody’s!

Of course the news of the day was the senseless shooting in the middle of the night. Not much to say about it but how sad. Now get ready for the exploitation of this tragedy by people that oppose the 2nd Amendment. No matter what side you’re on, it makes me sick that people use events like this to further their position only hours or sometimes even minutes after it happens. It’s ok to have a responsible debate on issues but as our Democratic Governor said, “we can’t let deranged people like this take away our freedoms or rights through one senseless act”. Rumor has it Obama is coming to Colorado which if so is nothing more than blatant exploitation of this tragedy for political purposes. I mean come on, what benefit is there from him coming to Denver to give a speech? I’ll bet he wouldn’t be coming if we weren’t a swing state! By 7pm every major network had their top national reporters here repeating the same stuff we heard in the morning and sensationalizing the event for ratings. 20/20, 48 Hours and other impromptu all had shows titled like “Tragedy in Aurora” Even ABC had to apologize as their top reporter said the shooter was a Tea Party member when in truth it so happens to just be a Tea Party member with the same name who is 52 years old and in no other way connected. That’s the only thing in common but noooo, they jumped all over it without the facts for ratings. It’ll be weeks before we here in Colorado can get away from having this rehashed over and over. The only thing that’ll stop it is some bad event somewhere else that they can latch onto for what they think is higher ratings. I mean do any of you want to keep seeing this crap on tv for days on end? I’ll stop now as I’m not going down this road on this day when everyone needs to pray for the victims and their families and yes, even for this sick individual.

It’s going to be 100 degrees today so I’d better run the sprinklers again. Our water and electric bills are way up this year due to increased prices and the drought.

Take care and have a great day.

Friday, July 20th

Good morning.  It is a beautiful summer morning. The sky is clear blue and we have a little bird snacking out of our bird feeder.  I’m not sure what kind of bird it is…he or she is a small bird with brown, grey and white feathers. He or she seems to be enjoying the wild bird seed and our squirrel is anxiously awaiting the bird’s departure so he can have his breakfast. It is really fun to watch the squirrel (Bushy as the boys call him) maneuver his way to the top of our squirrel proof bird feeder and then do basically a front flip to land inside where he can get to the feed.  Bushy does miss once in a while and lands a perfect double flip on the ground.  Too bad there is no summer Olympics for squirrels..I thing he might have a chance at gold.

The Mister took the boys to the Swim Team spaghetti dinner last night and a couple of our friends watched the kiddos while the mister checked back on me.  Just to let you all know..I am doing quite well.  The hardest thing is not lifting anything over five pounds and not bringing my arms above my shoulders.  Especially since I have all this time to look around and see what I should have done or finished pre-op.  Oh well, I’m sure these things will still need to be done after the recovery period is over.

The Mister grilled some delicious salmon skewers last night and I think he has some yummy blue cheese burgers for this afternoon or evening. He is quite the cook.  I smell the bacon he is making for breakfast sizzling away in the kitchen.  Is there any better breakfast smell than bacon?

The oldest is already reluctantly at swim practice.  He is happy once he is in the water, but getting there at 6:45 is a tiny bit of a challenge.  His League meet is Sunday and if they make a State time we will be going to the State meet the following Saturday.

The youngest just came down stairs…he slept in today 7:17 a.m. that is about an hour later than his usual time.  His swim practice doesn’t start until 8:30 so he should be wide awake by that time.

The Mister has a lot of work to get done today.  He has a lot of work to do everyday, but with the Fall tastings in full swing he has numerous accounts to see this morning.

The house is still clean…hurray…except for the dog hair under our feet.  I think I need to invest in another Swiffer…that way we don’t have to haul the vacuum out everyday.

The Mister just brought in breakfast, so it’s time to go.

Have a great day and God Bless.
