A little colder

You can tell this morning it’s colder outside. I’m opting for a long sleeve shirt and a heavier coat for when I walk out the door. After our morning hunt J.D. and his dad Paul arrived. J.D. is a 20 year old kid with a terminal brain tumor and some guys on a forum bought him this trip, sort of like a Make A Wish thing. He’s grounded for being so young and knowing he doesn’t have a lot of time left on the earth. Kind of puts things into perspective when you think about life. There’s a young kid who is a cameraman here too documenting J.D.’s hunt and for that matter, his life. We’re all treating him no different than anyone else which I think he appreciates a bunch. Sure hope he gets an elk.

My morning hunt ended with lots of sign but no animal. I did step into a river trying to cross it so I had one wet foot for a while. Same thing with the evening hunt, nada, nothing. Elk 2, me 0. Hopefully I’ll have better luck this morning. Just a quick note, hunting elk is not easy. In fact, it’s really hard. Lots of hiking, sitting, standing, moving, waiting and walking. Still though, I love it, animal or no animal. My back is sore and I have a bit of a headache, Marty has allergies, red eyes, a sore back and is a little sore too. Other than that, we’re good! Pictures to come.

Have a great day, God Bless.

4:20 am

Here we go. Up early and will be out the door by 5;15. We made it here with no issues except Marty and I each drove our own trucks as he has/had a bad cold. Upon arrival we unloaded our gear and rekindled relationships we see once a year, fun times. Next up was a little shooting to make sure we’re still on target. Then after 3 hours of bullshit (guys sitting around laughing and telling stories) we went out scouting. It was pretty easy to find the elk even though they were all a half a mile or more away. We glassed them until the sun was down and headed back to our cabin. Around 9:30 or 10 we all headed to bed.

4 am comes early and I’ll get 6 or 7 miles in between sun up at 6 and 9 am. It’s the first day so I’ll probably pass on any animal unless he’s really good size. Lori and the boys seem to be doing fine although we only communicated by text. That’s it, have a great day, GB.

Hunting

Today I’m off hunting. I need to take my truck as Marty has been sick and I don’t really want to ride with him for 2 hours in his truck and all his germs. Problem is Lori needs the truck to take Ty to mountain bike practice today and Tuesday.

Yesterday I had lots of work to do around here getting ready. The boys first day of school was great for the boys. Glad they had a good time. Lori says she’s cleaning around here all weekend. There’s always a lot to do as it never stops. That’s about it, time to get moving as I need to take the dogs up the hill as Mojo shit all over the house yesterday afternoon while I was making Jag’s bed downstairs. I bought the boys new sheets at Costco and had to wash them before putting them on their beds. Have a good day and holiday weekend. Be safe and God Bless.

First day of school

Jag’s a Senior and Ty a Sophomore. Hard to believe they were once little. This is also the first time they drive themselves to school. What a change.

Yesterday I was at the distributor in Denver and made it home around 3. Lori picked Ty up from his trip which was fine but a bunch of the kids on his trip are kind of jerks. He then went straight to mountain bike practice on Vail Mountain. He had a pretty good spill and cut up his elbow right where it had been healing from a previous crash. Jag was at soccer and Lori hung out at the house with the dogs.

Tomorrow I’m off hunting so today I need to pack and go to Costco. First up though now, after going to Walmart at 6:30 this morning to get Ty his back to school stuff, is a trip to the gym. Lori is already gone to work too.

Hope everyone is well. Time to go, GB.

Overslept

This afternoon Ty comes home, Jag has soccer, Lori is off and I’m on the way to Denver to meet Lorenzo. Robi said the Stones were great when I spoke with her yesterday. We’d expect nothing less.

I went to Buena Vista yesterday and was done by 9:40 am. This put me home around 11:30. You can feel the cooler temperatures in the air, especially in the morning. Sorry for the short posts but it’s been a super busy week. Lori will have to do the blog Saturday through Wednesday with me gone so I’m sure that’ll be a nice change. She always writes so pretty if that makes sense. Have a great day, God Bless.

Up early, again

This morning Mojo woke me up but that’s ok as I’m off to the rifle range in Buena Vista for a quick session to make sure I’m sighted in. I should be home by 11 this morning. Last night we hit two parties. The first was a 10th grade parent get together and then it was off to Lindsi and Paul’s for some great Chinese food. She’s a great cook who is half Chinese half Hawaiian and Paul is from England. We made it home a bit after 9.

Ty is on his trip while Jag hung out with Emma. He runs errands for me during the day which helps. Robi and Robert went to the Stones concert last night. We heard from her when they were on the way. I’m sure it was great. It’s in the 30’s and 40’s here in the mountains this morning which is nice. It’ll warm back up to the 90’s by the weekend.

First day of school is Thursday for our boys. The younger kids have started already. Then they go Friday and are off until Tuesday. It’s a great school but the cost seems too much. We’re accepting donations though if you’re interested in sponsoring two great boys! What a life. It’s 6:15 now and I’d like to be on the road by 7 so time to go. I love fall, even though we’d like summer to hang around a bit longer. Looks like a high in the low 70’s today. Have a great day, GB.

Last week of August

Here we go, that was a short summer. It’s cooler today with the high in the 70’s. Ty is off whitewater kayaking this morning for two days at 8:30. Then school starts for both boys Thursday.

Yesterday I dropped Ty at 8:30 for his 10:35 am race. I then had to run back to Vail and do a few things before heading to Denver to pick up Lori. She landed a bit before 4 so by the time we were home it was 6:30. Her head is still bad so she’ll get an official evaluation this week and maybe have surgery in a couple weeks. No point in screwing around.

Lots to do today around here. Lots to do this week. I did run into Lorenzo at the gas station by the airport yesterday afternoon before picking Lori up. He’s in town this week until Thursday working the market. I’ll meet up with him Wednesday morning.

Ty did really well in his first High School race. Not sure of where he placed yet but he passed a lot of people. I need to finish cleaning the garage this week too. That’s it, time to go, God Bless.

Mt. Bike Race

This morning at 10:35 Ty’s group goes off on a six mile two lap race on the Frisco Peninsula. I’m up at 5:30 as he wanted to go ride the preview lap at 7 but now doesn’t think he wants to as it’s too early. Probably best he sleeps in but at least I’m up, super.

Jag had his first scrimmage yesterday and scored the first goal. He almost had a second one but it hit the top of the crossbar. Meanwhile Ty’s friend from camp, Jacob, was here hanging out with Ty all day. We took him home around 6:30 last night to their place in Silverthorne. He’s a good kid that’s been going to camp with Ty for four years.

Lori and her mom made it to Sacramento with no issues. She then went to get a massage to try to help her head. Hope it helped. She’ll land about 4 this afternoon. The dogs are fine and up but I’m not feeding them this early. Guess I should see one more time if Ty wants to go. If not we’ll leave about 8:30.

All done, GB.

4:30 am

That’s what time Lori set the alarm for. Guess it’s good training for hunting as that’s what time I’ll wake up one week from today. Today though all I’m doing is driving to Denver to get Dixie and then taking them both to the airport.

Ty took a pretty good fall over his handlebars yesterday during practice. His knee is a bit swollen but hopefully is ok. Jag had soccer and has a scrimmage today. I hope to be back up home a little after noon. I need to let the dogs out, feed them, walk them and shower and leave all in 42 minutes so time to go. Have a great day, GB.

No drive today!

That’s right, today I do not have to drive to Denver. That breaks a streak of 4 days in a row that will start up again tomorrow when I take Lori and Dixie to the airport and then again on Sunday when I pick Lori up. Yesterday Ty and I drove Dixie down to Greg and Jae’s around 10 in the morning and after stopping for some food arrived a bit after noon. Then Ty and I headed home and made it here about 3 pm.

Today Ty has Deb and Jag has soccer. Then Ty has his orientation trip meeting at school at 1. Tomorrow Jag has a scrimmage and Ty has a friend from camp coming up. I’m going to try to clean the garage today after heading to the gym when Ty works with Deb. Lori has work as usual and should hopefully be home around 5. That is it, it’s been a long week and we have another one coming.

Hope everyone is well. Dixie had a great trip and might move to Denver. She loved being with the boys and Lori. We’ll see what she decides to do. Be safe, God Bless.
