4:30am and Obama compares himself to Lincoln!

WOW, ok, I tried to stay away but he started it. Yesterday Obama compared his accomplishments to that of Lincoln and said his first 3 years are more successful than anyone other of our previous Presidents, can you believe it? I’m am just stunned, man is this guy detached. Alright in the spirit of the season, that’s all I’m going to say on the issue, you need to decide for yourself if Obama is more successful than George Washington, Ronald Reagan or Abe Lincoln. WOW

Ok, I asked the misses to write today but I’m up drinking my coffee getting ready to head to the gym. My cold’s a bit better but still hanging on. We think the youngest is getting it now, hope we’re all ok for Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, is it really 3 days away? I hope you’re all ready. We’re all going down to Uncle T’s for a buffet and to visit. I think we’re going to throw something in the oven just so we have some leftovers. Hopefully we won’t be sick or we’ll just be home in front of the fireplace taking it easy.

This morning I need to be in Boulder by 9am and then back in Denver and downtown by 11. Then it’s a couple of phone calls, one with Nevada and one with Arizona, then off to Fed Ex to get Aunt Robi’s and Auntie Kristin’s gifts on the way. I just love Fed Ex, they do a great job.

I’m going to run now, maybe the wifey will pick up the banner and write a bit this morning, let’s hope so. If she doesn’t, take care and God Bless, see you tomorrow.

Uncle T’s birthday

Yesterday was Uncle T’s birthday. I took him to lunch and then later we all went to dinner at a mexican restaurant. Hope he had a great birthday. It’s cold here, really cold and I finally caught somebody’s cold and am all stuffed up this morning. I had to laugh at lunch as Uncle T (my brother) asked me if I’m happy and of course I said yes, why do you ask. He said he read the post about changing some things to be like the French and so on and if I was really happy as the posts seem to advocate a lot of different changes. I had to confess, it’s post number 350 today and I might just be running a bit short of material! This doesn’t mean we make things up, when we read the article on how the French live vs. us, there was some truth in how Europeans tend to enjoy their meals more and so on. But it is December 20th and do you all really want to hear about who the kids played with yesterday? Well just wait until next year, I’m already planning some big changes for us all, ha ha.

Ok, yesterday the kids did play,(surprise surprise) mostly indoors while Mom cleaned the house starting upstairs and working her way down. She didn’t finish and the boys constant bickering while “being boys” all cooped up didn’t help. Today I’ll be gone from about, let’s say 8:30ish until around noon so she’ll have them both to herself again, lucky her! Don’t get me wrong, they are good boys, but they’re still boys, high energy, rambunctious, opinionated boys! They’re not really made to be inside for 6 hours at a time. To them, inside or out, everything is a potential playground, it doesn’t matter where they are. They can turn the living room into a football field in a matter of seconds!

Five days until Christmas, it’ll be here and gone before you know it. Then the biggest day of the year, that’s right, wait for it, here it is, the coup de grace, December 29th, my birthday is here! Yeah, oh wait, 4 days after Christmas, 2 days before New Years Eve, no one feels like partying, hmmm. I think I’m officially moving my birthday to July 29th starting next year! Just kidding, I’m used to it and like my birthday right where it is. It is a difficult day to get people out to a party though.

Alright, can you tell I’m a bit short on material today, next year I think I’ll be including pictures to fill up some space. Oh wait, Grandma Annette reminded me that #3 in the French living post yesterday says to go try some french milled soap and she pointed out, buy American. I have to admit, she’s right and I agree but that french soap really is nice, I used it yesterday. This morning Grandma Dixie and Pa Don are loading up the car and driving down to Palm Springs until I think January 7th. They sure get around for both being in their 80’s, hope they have a fun safe trip.

Well I’m too stuffed up to head to the gym so I think I’ll just take a shower and get to work. I’ll try to get the misses to write tomorrow to give you all a fresh take on what’s going on around here. Take care, stay safe and God Bless,

All good things come to an end

Ok ok, I know, it’s only football but it sure would have been nice for the Broncos to beat the Patriots. I really never thought we would win but you never know. If you follow football, you know the term “any given Sunday” which means any team can beat any team, on any given Sunday. Well the Patriots brought us and Tebowmania back to earth for at least a week. Oh well, in the grand scheme of things, it’s just a game.

We arrived home around 6:15 and rushed to get ready to head down the street to meet Santa. After a few songs accompanied by bells and other instruments handed out by Santa, each child (from about 7 to 20) went up and sat on Santa’s lap and received a gift. The family who invited us are great and have included us for 3 or 4 years now. We and one other family, also with kids, are the only ones invited on the street. Today John (the dad) is taking his whole family to Jamaica for 5 days, what fun for them.

We made it home by 8:30 or so and then Jennifer’s mom came to pick her up as she had joined us for the party. The oldest one had a pretty rough day yesterday. It must have been some kind of birthday hangover as he was feeling pretty sorry for himself.

Everyone gets in a funk now and then (I hear my Mom is blaming me for the Green Bay Packers loss as I told her before the game that this is the one game they could lose!) but we all need to remember the big picture. Sure some of us would like more money, some would like a better job, some would like 6 pak abs (that’d be me!), some would like loved ones to still be with us or live closer but these things are not always in God’s plan. It’s up to us to remain strong and keep our heads up and live each day to the fullest. Remember you also (in most circumstances) can do something about it if you really want to. Now we can’t bring the youngest ones Grandpa back (something he repeatedly wishes for), but if I really want 6 pak abs, I can change things in my life and get them, if I’m willing to sacrifice what I need to, to do so. If one of you wants a new job or career, go after it! I know Grandma Dixie is missing her daughter and the grandkids these days, well get on a plane and get out here! Even if only for a few days. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, didn’t someone famous say that? The point is, don’t fall into the trap of believing you can’t do something if you really really want to. You’d be surprised what you can do if you put your mind to it or if you really really want it! Ok enough preaching for today, it’s Christmas week.

It almost doesn’t feel like Christmas but last night with Santa helped put us in the spirit. It comes so fast and then poof, it’s gone. We have to, as they say, take time to stop and smell the roses. Life is precious and we must enjoy each and every moment. When all the kids were sitting on Santa’s lap last night and he was asking each one what they wanted for Christmas, I thought to myself, what do I want and then it hit me, time. Time to enjoy my family, travel, read, relax and so on. The misses and I read an article in the paper the other day titled “What can we learn from French living”. The jist (is that a word?) of it is that the French are better at living than we are, way better. It says, get ready for this, that Americans are, and I quote, “galumphing, unrefined, consumption-addicted clods”. Even peasants in France use tablecloths. It goes on to say they would never eat pizza from a box in front of the tv and zone out. And it’s not all about money, not at all! They live very well compared to the average American. Think about it, in many ways our lives have become unmanageable,  our homes are filled with clutter, were slaves to technology (like this computer, ha, ha) and we move too fast through life and don’t, as I said earlier, stop and smell the roses. So here are the few steps to ponder to get more out of life.

1. Start by living in the moment, calm down. If you’ve ever sat in a cafe in the morning in Paris with your coffee and pastry, you know what I mean. In fact they enjoy every single meal. There’s no one rushing through their food or eating on the run!

2. Use the best you can. Use your good China and cloth napkins every day. Those in our family are the ones we love the most yet we only pull these out when guests or holidays come around, why?

3. Relish the little things. It says no American manufactured soap can compare to french milled soap, guess what, they’re right. It’s amazing how much difference a bar of soap makes.

4. Reject materialism. We don’t need all the latest and greatest things they pound into our heads with endless advertising or brainwashing that we are exposed to every day. It’s better to have a few really nice things than a house full of fads.

5. Pursue quality pastimes, always have dessert and good conversation, especially at meal time. Then listen to good music and read something! Life should be about conversation and connection through the arts. A 6 year old french child knows more about the arts and history than the average 40 year old American!

I could go on but you get the point. Now I’m not saying everything about France is better than America, quite the contrary, but we can all learn how to get more and enjoy life more from most cultures in Europe. I’m just saying, take a look at it, we need to slow down and take stock of what’s important in our lives which to me is family and friends, not the tv and endless pursuit of material things that are here today and gone tomorrow. Think about it, every year at Christmas they have the latest fashion or electronic or toy we all have to have and by the next year, it’s on close out or not even salable. Hmmm.

Oh well, I guess I’m preaching again. It’s a big week and with the coming new year, we can all start contemplating our resolutions for 2012. We hope you all are well, take care, God Bless and stop and think about what YOU want, then go after it. Trust me, you’ll be amazed what you can accomplish.

What a birthday!

The day started out like any other, a work out, coffee and then breakfast. But alas, that’s where the normal routine ended. At 11am Uncle T, Aunt B and Grandma showed up bearing gifts for the birthday boy. Before you know it, it was 12:30 and time to head off to Big Time, the trampoline place to meet up with a half dozen of his friends for party #2. This ended a little after 3 and by the time we got home we had an hour to get ready before heading off to dinner. Dinner was fantastic and we all had a great time. The oldest and his friend split a steak and had popcorn shrimp while the youngest had a grilled cheese. The highlight of the evening was the flaming pot of fire that arrived at the table with a big bowl of marsh mellows, chocolate and graham  crackers so the kids could make their own s’mores. The food was really good and everyone was really well behaved, what a fun time.

We arrived home and the 3 kids (our boys and his friend) plopped down on the couch and watched the Smurfs movie. Around 9pm, his friends mom picked her up.

It’s about 7:15 am now and I need to head to the gym to get in my pre game workout before the big game today. This has to be the biggest game the Broncos have played in for 10 years or so as we haven’t had many games that mean much since John Elway retired.

After the game we need to head down the street to Britan’s house (their former babysitter and tennis teacher) who has an annual Christmas party where we think, the real Santa, shows up every year. We’re lucky to be invited every year as it’s mostly their family.

Sorry for the short post and sketchy details but I’m rushed for time. If you’d like to hear more about the party, give the misses a call, she’s still in bed though so wait a bit!

One week until Christmas! Hope you all are ready, take care, have a great day and God Bless the Denver Broncos!

The big day!

It’s hard to believe our oldest son was born 10 years ago today. Wow how time fly’s. You all know, some better than others, what a great young man he’s grown up to be. Sure he’ll fight with his brother and yes he has his moments but it would be hard to imagine a better son, brother, nephew or grandson than he is. We’re awfully proud of him and we all love him very much!

Yesterday was their last day of school until January 4th. I thought it was the 8th but his teacher corrected me when she stopped by last night on her way home from school. She gave the oldest a big hg and said how well he does in school and how much she enjoys him in class. I think she really has a special interest in him as she says she was a lot like him when she was younger. We’re so lucky to have very good teachers for both the boys. I worked most of the day while Mom went to school and helped out with the boys party’s. I don’t know what the school would do without her and the time she’s put in over the years. She’s really done everything she can to make sure the kids have the best possible school experience they can. This of course is more important these days than when we were kids as none of the schools have any money!

After school the youngest was looking at our bulletin board made of corks that the misses made. I told him stores downtown would probably pay $25 or more for one and sell then for $75. Before you could blink an eye, he was looking for a hot glue gun to start his own business! I asked him what he was doing and he told me he was going to make some but he’d also be making some toys out of cork. He said that he’d make them for everyone but for the kids, they’d be free! Another selfless act of kindness, once again, boy are we great parents! We should win some kind of, as the say in the Christmas Story, “major award”!

Today of course we have one party after another. First up is the family party at 11am with Grandma, Uncle T and Aunt B. This one will be hard to beat as I’m sure he’ll be spoiled beyond belief. Next up will be his party at Big Time, a place with trampolines, foam pits (to land in) a maze, jumpy castles and more. There are 8 kids which includes him and his brother and a friend for his brother. After this we’re headed to Elways for dinner. Uncle T told me he thinks I’m crazy (and maybe I am) but we want his 10th birthday to be memorable and special. He’s taking his friend Jennifer with us to dinner and although you can never say “his girlfriend”, that’s pretty much what she is.

We’ll have to pace ourselves to get through the day. I think we’ll all head to the gym this morning to get the day started off on the right foot. I’ve already run to the store for coffee creamer and yogurt and picked up a couple of double non fat lattes with a splash of eggnog for the misses and me.

Hope you’re all well, sorry for the rant on political correctness and the brief foray into politics yesterday but sometimes I just can’t help myself. Take care, have a great weekend and make sure to say a prayer for the Denver Broncos to beat the New England Patriots tomorrow! God Bless

The last day of school

That’s right, after today, the kiddos are off until, I think January 8th! We’re freakin out already wondering how we can keep them busy, especially after Christmas. Thanks to the three of you that commented yesterday, Uncle T who told us who he’s donated to and suggests it’s not too late for all of us to do so too, Aunt B who rightly recognizes that we are all very lucky and spoiled and Grandma Annette who shared her Christmas experiences as a little girl. For those of you that don’t know how to access the comments, here is Annette’s,

Annette says:

When we were kids we always went to San Francisco to see Santa at the Emporium. We rode on the rides on the roof of the store and Santa had a slide just like the movie Christmas Story and we got a present for a boy or girl. That movie makes me laugh everytime I see it . We would go to the City of Paris to their qourmet food dept. so my Dad could stock up on all the goodies he wanted. My brother and sister would tell me what they wanted and I would tell Dad. I was daddies girl and he would never tell me no (spoiled?). After all that we would go somewhere nice for dinner and go look at the lights on the fire stations. They had big competitions at the fire stations for the best displays. Christmas morning at our house was always hard for us kids. Santa did not wrap presents so the bottom of the tree was covered by a sheet. We had to wait for Grandma to wake up and eat breakfast before we could see what Santa left. Santa always left one big present and the rest was clothes and some small things like books. I almost forgot our stockings were always on the bottom of our bed and we could look in them as soon as we woke up. They were always very special and one of the best things about Christmas. We also went to the candle light service at church on Christmas eve one of us kids were always in the play (angel, wiseman, shepard or Mary). We sang all the old Christmas songs, they are still my favorites. I really miss my parents at Christmas. This turned out to be a little long. Love you all

Now first off, what are you doing up at 3:35am? That’s my time, I should have called you as I too was awake then. Back to her comments, what a great story, especially the stockings hanging on the end of the beds, how neat is that! It’s good to hear about you singing Christmas songs, we too as a family were singing the 12 Days of Christmas in the car the other day.

Speaking of singing, and sorry to go all political, last night was the oldest ones Christmas concert at school. The entire 3rd and 4th grades were on stage singing for 3o minutes. At the end the misses and I noticed they didn’t sing a single song with the word Christmas in it! The did sing one song called Shalom Shalom but no We Wish You a Merry Christmas or anything like that. It was blatantly obvious. I mentioned this to the wife who said there is a Jehovah Witness kid in 4th grade who objects to Christmas or something like that. I couldn’t believe it, I mean you read about this stuff in the papers but now it has made its way down to our own neighborhood. The misses said, “can’t they just give us Christmas back”. I’m so shocked I think I’m going to write a letter or something. Look out people as Christians are slowly being pushed to the back of the line when it comes to who has rights or who gets what. It’s really kind of scary if you think about it.

On another note (and then I’ll stop, I promise) the House and the Senate have passed a defense bill the President is set to sign, that gives the government and/or military, the ability to now detain U.S. citizens indefinitely without a trial if they suspect them of terrorism. This is total disregard and contradictory to our constitution. I cannot believe this is going to pass. We’re entering dangerous times and on a slippery slope, I don’t know what else to say.

Ok, no more politics, back to the school concert. Besides the choice of songs, the kids were great. We arrived an hour early to get seats in the front row. The misses said she was tired of standing in the back year after year. We were the envy of all the late comers asking “how early did we get here?”. The oldest did great but was bummed as the kid he had to stand next to is known far and wide for having sort of a”gassy” stomach, enough said, I think you know what I mean. (sounds like a character out of the Christmas Story, huh Annette) Also with a few hundred parents and grandparents, plus 100 or so kids in the gym, it got pretty hot after a bit. I was thinking ahead and brought a couple of bottles of water, thankfully. We arrived home around 7:45 and of course the boys were starved. The way they talked, you’d think they hadn’t eaten for weeks! Finally at 8:30 or 9, we had everyone in bed.

Today is a big day with party’s in both classrooms. The misses is somehow involved in both while I will be driving around to the warehouse and accounts and working the phones trying to keep my $1 million dollar worth of purchase orders all on track.

The oldest just came down letting me know tomorrow is his birthday. I don’t know about you but around here, no one can forget this as we’ve had hourly reminders all week! He’s quite excited as he should be, 10 years old is a big one!

The dog’s barking to come in and I need another cup of coffee, thanks Annette for the comments about Christmas when you were young, now it’s up to the rest of you to chime in, get off your butts and let’s hear from you!

Merry Christmas, that’s right, I said it! Have a blessed day, God, Mary, Jesus Christ, nativity scene, a cross, the bible, etc. (just had to get in all the things the government will no longer let you say or put up on public property)

Take care,

December 15th!

Let the countdown begin, 10 day until Christmas and 16 or 17 until January 1st 2012 depending on how you count. I remember counting down the years and then days to the year 2000 and here we are starring at 2012! Wow, think about it, it’s like when we were younger watching some future movie like Terminator and them flashing to the future saying “2012”. Somehow it has more impact than any previous year, at least to me.

My how the World has changed. I think this year I’m going to make a point of having my Mom explain to all of us what Christmas was like for her as a little girl. In fact, it would be fun to hear from any of you old foggies out there, what can you tell us? When we were kids we would always get up early and sneak downstairs to see a huge present from Santa usually unwrapped. I’m not sure when we started sleeping in but I’m sure my Mom could tell you the exact year as we continuously woke her up before she was ready. Some of our more memorable gifts was a bumper pool table that sat in our living room for over a month with a table cloth on it and none of us kids figured it out. My most special gift was a bass guitar that I think is still in my Mom’s upstairs closet. As we got older, my parents moved away from one big gift from Santa and turned to surprising us at the end of the morning by going in the other room and bringing out one last big present after we thought we were all done. This had even greater effect as you would open all your presents and then be sitting back and my Mom or Dad would nonchalantly get up and leave the room and come back with some fabulous gift like a new leather coat or a pair of skis. It was great and always reminded me of the kid in the movie the Christmas Story whose dad spotted a Red Rider BB gun in the corner after they were all through opening all their gifts and he thought he didn’t get the one thing he wanted the most. My parents were always very generous and never let any of us kids down. If you haven’t seen the movie The Christmas Story, ( you’re living in a cave!) you have to watch it! It usually plays on TNT starting Christmas eve and runs over and over until Christmas morning. I made sure to put it on every year, especially in my dad’s later years as it used to really make him laugh. You really should watch it, it has humor for young and old alike.

Yesterday the misses made lots of goodies for the boys parties coming up tomorrow. I have lots of errands to run today and a bunch of excel work. I don’t want to bore you with work but let’s just say, there’s still a lot to do.

The oldest has taken to writing Santa a letter every night and leaving it by his shoe. These will be great for him to have when he gets older. Uncle T and Aunt Robi commented that they too remember putting out our shoes but Uncle T ays he remembers us doing it for only one night. I think he’s mistaken and we had them out for the entire 12 days of Christmas, I’ll have to check with my Mom. Speaking of my lovely mother, I had a chance to see her briefly yesterday and she looks good. I told her a few weeks ago when we got back from Paris that we’re taking her in the Spring and I’m not letting her off the hook, as she’ll love it! In may ways my Mom epitomizes Paris, she’s always been so classy and “Parisian” even though she doesn’t know it. Think Coco Channel of Colorado, that’s my Mom. Anyhow, we’re planning on renting an apartment so anyone can come if they want. I think we’ll get one for 2 weeks or so giving everyone a chance to use it for a few days. Europe is so great and everyone should go if they can. I think Grandma Dixie might even make it as we talked about it the other day. Luckily we have some connections to help make this affordable. We also have a free apartment in Nice whenever we want it, hmmm. Most of you might not remember but when the oldest child was really young, we went to Aix in Provence for a week, Italy for a week and then Paris for a week, all on the same trip, it was great. So, get off your duff and start thinking about it now, I promise you, you won’t be sorry, it’ll be the trip of a lifetime. And for my Mom, get ready, we won’t take no for an answer, you are going!

Time to hit the gym, it’s 5:11 and I need to run. Have a great day and a blessed day.

p.s. we were out of coffee creamer this morning so I used some egg nog and I’m not sure but I think it had some rum in it leftover from our party as I’m a little tipsy! Whoo hoo! Maybe it’s just lack of sleep, I need to check with the misses when she gets up.

It’s coming fast!

Won’t be long now, Christmas is almost here and it’s almost time for me to think about shopping. I hope everyone had a chance to read yesterdays post, if not, scroll back now. Last night both boys wrote a second letter to Santa after I explained he probably couldn’t get them the snowboards they requested as he might not know what size. The oldest kindly explained why he was writing (saying forget the snowboard as you might not know my size) and instead asked if Santa could just get him “something awesome” instead. The best part was the last sentence of his letter that said “but take care of other people first”! Are you kidding me! What great parents we are, here’s a kid at Christmas asking Santa to take care of other kids before him, WOW, pretty amazing at his age to put others before himself. Meanwhile the youngest too wrote a letter also asking for “something awesome” obviously taking a cue from his brother. His picture was of him and Santa with him saying “I love you” to Santa. He asked for a couple of small games and drew the best picture of a Christmas tree you’ve ever seen. The excitement is building around here and it’s magical to watch. As parents you just want to get your kids everything they want and then some. Of course this isn’t possible but you try. As I said yesterday, we are buying no junk whatsoever this year. In fact, we have only a couple things for each child but they are really nice things. We need to find some inexpensive (less than $10) items for them to open just for volume. I saw new winter coats and snow pants yesterday on sale for about $200 a pair each that I’d love to get each boy but we just don’t have the money. This year they’ll be in snow pants that are a couple of years old and a bit too short for each of them but will still do the job. My Mom is still looking for something to get me, maybe I could get her to buy these for the kids as my gift! Otherwise I’m eyeing a pair of Whites Boots which are a rugged outdoor leather boot which last a lifetime.

Ok, let’s talk about yesterday and today. The misses arrived home about 6:15 and I had a baked potato and chicken breast ready for dinner. The boys wanted cheese fondue which she whipped up and they dipped apples, chicken and bread in it for dinner. It was lots of fun for them. Today Mom and the boys are making “cake pops” for the school party I think.

Looks like I’ll be headed to Italy to meet with some of our vineyards and Andrea Bocelli January 8th to the 14th. I think I’ve told you we have a partnership (have had for 5 years) with Andrea and Alberto (his brother) Bocelli where we co-developed a line of “Bocelli Wines” which launch nationally in early 2012. Pretty soon, you’ll see them everywhere. I had to work the trip around the youngest ones birthday which is January 17th. Don’t fret Aunt B as the misses is putting in for the whole week off so no need to worry about watching the dogs. Someday I need to share a story with you about Andrea and his youth as he’s really a remarkable guy whose story is so inspiring it’ll give you the chills. In short, he’s really a great guy and a force for goodness in this World.

We’re really excited for 2012. For those of you that know me well, I always try to get a head start on the new year. This means while everyone else heads to the gym January 1st with their new resolutions in mind, I start now. In fact, I hate the first few weeks of the year at the gym as there’s always tons of new people who have made a resolution to get in shape. Luckily most of them are gone and never to be seen again by mid month. I’ve always made it a point to pretty much abstain from most alcohol in December, I usually take down the Christmas lights and “de Christmas” the house December 26th and am already in 2012 mode before the end of the year. In the past few years I’ve listened to the misses and left the lights up a bit longer but still manage to get them down before the end of the year. I just like to get a jump on the new year and be ready to hit the ground running while everyone else is thinking about starting on January 1st. Oh well, just a quirk of mine that I enjoy. I think it’s just my mentality of always looking ahead. For example, if I were to ask for or buy any clothes for Christmas, I want Spring clothes. It sounds funny but I’m already out of “winter mode” as it’ll be Spring in about 100 or so days! The stores seem to follow my lead as they too are putting their winter fashions on sale right about now. If you think about it, time sure goes fast! You have to enjoy each and every day!

The youngest just came down with a chocolate coins he found in his shoe from St. Nick. Of course, it’a already gone. Mom wrapped the few presents we have for the boys last night and stuck them under the tree as they’ve been asking her to do so for quite some time. Time to run, I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’ve tried to stay totally away from politics. It also seems that everyday there’s another teacher charged with sexual abuse on a child. I’m not going to go into this but it just makes me sick to my stomach! I can’t even read about it. I shouldn’t of even mentioned it but it’s part of the World we live in. Oh well, I’m trying to focus on the good which I think we all should. Trust me, goodness is infectious, if you’re nice and do nice things each day, other people will too!

So, once again, have a great day, take care and God Bless you all!

The 12 days of Christmas

When we were young, my Mom started the tradition of the 12 days of Christmas. If I remember right, this was a Scandinavian tradition, or maybe German. I’ll have to ask my Mom. Anyhow for 12 nights you put your shoe outside your door and St. Nick usually brings you an orange or some small gift. In the event you haven’t been behaving, you could get a stick or a lump of coal! Regardless, our boys are all in. A few years ago they did get a stick once and it is well remembered. The oldest put his letter to Santa out last night with his shoe while the youngest wrote his a few days ago, went down to my office, and stuck it in a Fed Ex envelope. He addressed it to Santa Claus, North Pole, from Ty. That was it.

The best thing about Christmas is seeing the anticipation and excitement through the eyes of a child. My Mom is still asking me what I want when in truth, I already have it. I have a beautiful wife and two great kids. We’re all pretty healthy (can I ask for 6 pak abs?), my Mom, brother and sisters, Aunt B, and all the misses family is doing pretty well, and at least we have a roof over our head and aren’t going hungry (note the lack of 6 pak abs!). Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to get the latest electronic gadget or some new clothes (think Armani suit) or something else you wouldn’t normally buy or be able to afford for yourself, but seeing your kids excitement and believe in the season is the best gift of all. I’m not sure at what age you switch over from wanting to receive more to wanting to give but it happens to all of us, I hope. Personally I would much rather give than get and if I had a bunch of money, you all would be showered with gifts. I still try to go overboard for the misses because she deserves it. Those of us that really know her know she rarely asks for anything and always thinks of others before herself. Who wouldn’t want to do something for a person like that? As for the kids, when we were young, my Mom would always say, “now next year, we’re not buying as much for you kids” yet year after year she would go overboard and spoil us. I must get the “giving gene” from her. As far as the kids go, yes they will still get spoiled (partly due to Uncle T and Aunt B) but we’re trying hard to make them understand the value of everything and no matter what, will not buy junky China manufactured toys anymore. There getting useful things (think sports equipment) and some old time toys, made in the good old USA. I can’t go into details as some of you might slip but I’m sure you’ll hear all about it on Christmas. Ok, now to the day,

The misses works from 9:30 until 6pm while I have a bunch of work to do myself. The oldest ones birthday is coming up this Saturday. He is having a party in the afternoon with his friends and then we’re going out for a family dinner, (Mom and Dad, his little brother and a friend), that evening. It’s a big expense but when I was a kid, my parents would always let us choose wherever we wanted to go for our birthday dinner. On top of that, this year he’s 10 so it’s a pretty big deal. Well we are going to Elways in Cherry Creek. Through my magic, I managed to get us in at 5pm but we have to be gone by 6:45. This is just fine with us as they’re booked solid with holiday parties. It’s a great steak restaurant owned by the former Denver Bronco quarterback, John Elway. They’re going to do something special for his birthday as I sell them a bunch of wines so we have a bit of a connection. We need to come up with some nice outfits for the boys to wear. It will be lots of fun!

Yesterday I received a call from the misses around 2pm telling me to get over to the school quick as the oldest one was reading a poem he wrote to his class. I made it just in time to see him stand up and deliver. He did a great job! The rest of the day was spent going over to the book store for “school night”and although we didn’t spend much (1 stocking stuffer) the kids played with all their friends and the school received a percentage of all sales. We arrived home around 6:30, had a quick dinner and headed off to bed. It’s now 5:15 and I need to run to the gym.

We hope you all are doing great and , and in the words of Tim Tebow, have a blessed day!

God Bless,

Are you freakin kidding me!

I was there, I saw it, but I still don’t believe it! I’m talking about the Denver Broncos Chicago Bears football game. To make a long story short, we were down 10 to 0 with about 2 minutes to go. Somehow we scored 10 points, went to overtime, had a few inexplicable events go our way and then won the game. My distributor and his wife from Chicago flew in and went to the game with us. He would have bet his life that the game was over with 2 minutes to go. In fact he was apologizing to me for beating us telling me his team needed the win more than us. Then all of a sudden, as if it was preordained, one thing happened after another until 75,000 plus fans went home screaming for joy and the Chicago fans in disbelief. For the last two minutes of regulation and 8 minutes of overtime, the whole stadium was standing, jumping up and down and screaming as we all knew we were going to win. I actually felt bad for my friend and his wife who also knew long before we scored the tying field goal in regulation, that we were going to win. He said to me, “you’re going to win this game”. In true Tebow (our humble quarterback that gives everyone else credit and thanks God in every sentence and who in the words of my wife, “is adorable”), fashion I said, “the game’s not over, you can still win”, even though I too knew somehow we would comeback and once again win. By the time I made it to my car I had text messages from New York to Seattle and then the phone started ringing. Now I don’t know how much longer this will go on, we play New England next week, but for now, we seem unstoppable. No matter what happens, it’s been a good year and a good story.

This is the kids last week of school and then they’re out until around January 4th or 5th. Saturday is the oldest ones birthday, then the next day is the Bronco New England Patriot game along with a party down the street that night where Santa Claus shows up and then the next day is Uncle T’s birthday. After all that, it’ll be December 20th and then Christmas before you know it. I have lots and lots of work this week starting with a good 4 hours on the phone this morning.

The oldest one was at his best friend Jennifer’s birthday party for most of the day. The party was from 2:30 until 4:30 but he went at 12:15 and was home around 6:15. These two are quite the pair. Meanwhile the youngest played hard all day long with his friend in our house and his with Jack the babysitter keeping an eye on him.

Time to run, sometime soon I need to start Christmas shopping but of course you need money to do this! That’s the only hold up, if we had the money, we’d be shopping, funny how that works. Have a good day, a good week, and we’ll see you tomorrow, God Bless you all and God Bless the Denver Broncos!
