All packed

Well it took all day but we’re all packed and ready to go. We will check 2 bags and carry 1 on in case our bags are lost, wouldn’t be the first time! Uncle T is taking us to the airport and our flight leaves at 10:30. We get to Dulles around 4 and take off for Munich around 6pm. By 4am your time (or 3am PST) we will be landing in Verona. As soon as we get to our estate, we’ll call someone.

The dogs know something’s up, they always do but they’ll be ok. All other details are handled so we’re good to go. Both boys have their own digital cameras so they can document the trip for their classmates. They’ll also be keeping a journal (each of them) so we can all read them when we get home.

I’m going to try to stay up on the posts but keep in mind we’re 8 or 9 hours ahead of you with limited internet. I may have to do 2 in a day but don’t worry I’ll get them up somehow. I’m going to hand this off to the misses now so from me, take care of yourselves while we’re gone and don’t do anything crazy. God Bless, here’s the misses….

The boys had a good day of playing…they were out most of the day on there bikes along with Ben the neighbor boy.  Ben went to his Grandma’s house for a couple of hours and our guys asked over and over and over again for us to take them to putt putt golf.  We patiently declined the first thirty times, but finally had to lay down the law.  Ben’s mom offered to take them out for golf to reciprocate for the night we had Ben.  This worked out well because we had five free golf games..our two boys her two boys and one extra game just in case Jen wanted to participate.  Jen also served up a meal of Di Journo pizza….thanks Jen.  The boys ate outside and played outside until well after 8:p.m. when we dragged them in to shower and head to bed.

Bob and Fred have clean fish bowls and will hopefully not miss us to much.  I’m sure Auntie B will tell them “Goodnight” each night before she leaves. Thank you again Auntie Blondie. Our lab has an ear infection that is finally starting to clear up.  Auntie B should only have five evenings of ear drops to administer. Once again, thank you Auntie B and thank you Uncle T for coming up the hill with Auntie B…..it’s a bit scary with all of the Halloween decorations out.

We are all super excited….God Bless,

LLF

Wheels Up in 27 Hours

Good morning. Our sleep was once again interrupted from the big dog barking and howling at 2:34a.m.  The Mister had the pleasure of getting up and bringing the big dog in. It looks as though the big dog will have to spend the nights inside, in his crate while we are gone. Auntie B will just have to tell Mojo to get in the crate and offer up a treat…he is really good about getting in his crate….it seems to be a safe place for him.  We have to attach two carabiner clips (mountaineering clips) to the crate or the big dog breaks right out. He is warming my feet at this very moment.

We have a little bit to do today.  Exercise is number 1 on the list.  Packing is number two…I have the boys clothes ready to go, but the Mister and I have yet to begin. We also have to clean house so we don’t return to a disaster zone. Bob and Fred need their bowls cleaned, so they can make it until we return. I am going to get a mani-pedi, because one really can not go to Europe with unkempt hands and feet. We also want to make a lunch run up the hill to see the Fall colors before they disappear.  We are hoping that Grandma will join us.

We had one of the neighbor kids over yesterday.  I had agreed to let him stay while his mom ran an errand and then was enlightened to find out that he would be with us until 6:00p.m. which turned out to be 7:00p.m. The three boys got along fairly well.  However, when it comes to sharing our guys are much more proficient. Just a bit of drama. The neighbor boy did say he would rather live with us…that is a nice compliment. He said we have better food and we do fun things, go figure. My guys rarely like our food and I don’t think that they are aware of how fun we really are.  Maybe someday.  They do offer up the occasional, “You’re the best parents ever”! That is a truly heartfelt compliment.

The boys are both up and watching Bugs Bunny.  I used to love Saturday morning cartoons. Of course those were the days before cartoons were on all day everyday.  We are looking forward to no television, no newspaper, and no daily bad news.

Did anyone look at the link to Almavista? What a beautiful place.  We can hardly wait. Yes, it’s less than 27 hours until “Wheels up”. One short flight to D.C.  A couple of hours in the airport and wheels up again to Verona…the home of Romeo and Juliet. Verona is also home to one of the oldest standing Coliseums in Italy. Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait.

The boys want to go to putt putt golf today…I’m sure we will have no trouble fitting that into our schedule.  The youngest won 5 free golf games in his “Friday drawing” at school.  If you do all of your homework you are eligible for the drawing and our guy won this week. Those teachers have the best incentives.  We will see, maybe we can talk someone into, or hire someone to take them this afternoon.  There is also football on today that we will have to work around. Yikes!!

Well, I am off to run…literally. Both boys are draped over my lap and making it quite difficult to type. Have a lovely day and we will let you know if we make it through our list.

God Bless,

LLF

90 days left in the year

Today’s post is number 275. Our first post was December 31st so after the day is over, we should have finished 275 of the 365 days in this year. My little brother will be putting up his Christmas tree after he reads this!

48 hours from now we’ll be getting dressed and ready to head out to the airport. It’s supposed to be sunny and in the mid to high 70’s while we’re there with showers on a couple of days. We have a great trip planned out with our first stop in Goriska Brda in Slovenia at our good friends, Aleks and Martina Simcic. Click here or copy and paste into your browser to see more,

www.almavista.si/en/index.php ,

It’s a really beautiful place that is a lot like Italy was 30 or 40 years ago before it was overrun with tourists. I don’t know if you know, but until the end of World War II, it was part of Italy. The dolomites (a mountain range) are right there starring you in the face, and the rivers are a blue greenish chalky white color from all the glacial run off. It’s really a great place to visit and we’re really looking forward to it. After a few days visiting here we head off for a estate about an hour north of Venice. Paolo and Kristina are waiting for us and have arranged for an apartment for us right by his estate. We will be eating lots of seafood and enjoying the flavor of the local towns. On one day we are all going down to Venice where will we all spend the day and then the night at a friend of Paolo’s who owns a hotel. I’ve always said it makes a huge difference to visit a country if you have a friend or local contact to really show you around. We’re really lucky to have such good friends who really want to reciprocate for all the times we’ve hosted them in the states. I’m not sure how consistent the blog will be from there but we’ll do our best.

Yesterday was a productive day at work and I’m happy, or more like relieved, that my thoughts to overhaul things for 2012 were embraced. We have a lot going on but with proper planning, I think we’ll be ok. I just saw a text from my partner who was supposed to have a 5:15 flight last night saying that his plane had “an epic mechanical problem” and they finally took off at 10pm! Wow, I feel bad he had to sit at the airport for over 6 hours, but at least he made it home.

Lots of last minute running around today. I’d love to grab Grandma and drive up to the mountains for lunch or something just to see the aspen trees changing as I’m afraid all the leaves will be gone by the time we get home. We’ll see if we can work it out.

I’m feeling 100% better and am hoping I’ve kicked whatever it was that I had. Both dogs are sleeping at my feet and we’re trying to let Mojo in as much as possible since we’ll be gone soon. Tomorrow the Broncos play the Green Bay Packers, it’s a big day in these parts and my Mom will be glued to the tv.

No politics or stuff like that today, I’m trying to get into the vacation/relaxation mode now and that stuff just pisses me off. The misses and I sure need and deserve this break, and I can’t tell you how much we’re looking forward to it! She’s the most excited I’ve seen her in a long long time.

Time to sign off so I can get some banking and bill paying done before everyone wakes up. I also need to make copies of all our important papers and the misses will start gathering all the clothes and stuff to pack today. We’ll also need to clean out the fridge a bit so things don’t go bad. So, until tomorrow, take care and God Bless, wish some of you could come along, maybe next time, you’re always welcome.

Cross Country Race Day

Good mid morning. It has been a non-stop start to the day. We woke up late…6:20a.m. The Mister and Uncle Josh headed off to the Gym while the boys and I had breakfast, got dressed, combed our hair etc. I packed lunches, loaded up backpacks and the boys and I hopped on our bikes for a ride to school.  The air was much cooler than we thought, so about three blocks from the house our hands were burning from the cold. We stopped in order for the youngest to don his hoodie and pull the sleeves over his hands.  The oldest was telling us to hurry up thinking we would be late…OH MY!!! In his fourth grade class his teacher..amazing woman that she is…gives the children “Golden Tickets” for good behavior, good deeds and all around helpfulness. Our guy has the most this year…160 golden tickets.  He has earned most of them, but creatively thought of some things he could make for his buddies and charge tickets for them. Two examples of these are an origami Darth Vader and an origami Yoda each costing 5 tickets. One of his friends lost his Yoda and offered double for another. Supply and demand at it’s finest. Of course the boys and I  made it to school with plenty of time to spare.  I had a frigid uphill ride home and then I was off to give Bunkie his shot.

LOL is under the weather. When I got there she was still in bed and had been up most of the night sick.  She was so cold that she was shaking.  I took her temp and it was fine, gave the dog his shot (All by myself..very scary) and then put extra covers on her and headed home for a shower. I’ll check on her this afternoon. She doesn’t want me to get to close in fear that I may catch what she has….I absolutely will not!!

After showering and drying my new, lovely, long locks I made my way to school to volunteer in the second grade class for an hour. I worked on math flash cards with the kiddos and tested for math placement groups. I really enjoy those little ones. I went out to the Cross Country field when I was done and met Uncle J and my guy at the Start/Finish line of the Cross Country race track.  The girls were just finishing up when I arrived and the boys were cheering them all on.

The boys were up next and oh boy was our guy excited.  He ran a great race with a good pace finishing in 8 minutes 31 seconds. I don’t think I could run a mile in that time. He placed 2nd in his class…his friend Vinnie placed 1st and our guy was 4th overall. He congratulated all of his buddies and gave me a hug. Oh, happy times for mommy. I’ll be back at school at 1:00p.m. for the youngest’s race….there is some heavy competition in that 2nd grade class. Our guy has a good time while he runs. He is always grinning and laughing the whole time. Very sweet.  There are some really competitive aggressive kids in class, but our munchkin still just wants to have fun.  Hurray!!

I’m off to pick up my paycheck and then back to school for race #2.

I really appreciate and love to be available to watch our boys grow.  The days go by so fast and the boys are maturing so quickly that I am making an effort to be mindful to live in the moment with them, so I may enjoy every second. My parents weren’t joking when they said we grow up to fast….so SLOW DOWN and enjoy life.:-)

Love to you all and God Bless,

LLF

Back to the doctor

Ok, after heading the the doctor the past two days, I go back again this morning. For two days I’ve had something like 140 over 100 for my blood pressure. They checked me out for any heart issues the first day and ruled that out. At this point they think it’s a ton of stress from work. It’s been a very stressful week. I spoke with them again last night and now of all things, I’m going in this morning to be checked for listeria. Yes I did eat contaminated cantaloupe about a month ago and do have a stiff neck, loss of alertness and other things that could lead to this. At least I made the doctor give me an antibiotic the other day so yesterday, and this morning, I no longer have any fogginess in my head. Hopefully they can draw blood and get the results in the same day or maybe to play safe, I’ll just have them up my antibiotics . In knee jerk reaction mode, they did give me a prescription for some blood pressure medicine yesterday morning but after picking it up and reading the warnings, I don’t think I want to take it. It says if you take it and stop you can have a heart attack! It also has numerous gross side affects I won’t go into. Oh yeah, also causes drowsiness and dizziness, the two things I’m trying to get rid of. I hope I’m back down to my normal 120 over 80 this morning which is where I usually am.

UPDATE:8:30AM, BACK FROM THE DOCTOR. Well I just got back from the doctor and have good news! No listeria and my blood pressure is down to 125 over 85 so they said it was good I didn’t take that medicine. Apparently coffee (which I have about 8 cups a day) and alcohol can make it go up. Who knew? Anyhow I’m going to ride this out and be all better in a couple of days and get back to my old self. The dizziness is apparently from maybe some sort of sinus infection (which is what my Mom said a few days ago) which hopefully will pass soon. So, looks like I’m good to go.

Mt partner from Seattle flew in from a meeting in New York late last night. It was an impromptu decision that we get together and map out our vision for 2012 and with me going to Italy, we decided to get it done now. We’ll get about a weeks worth of work done in the next 30 hours or so. I’m glad he could divert his flight as we get a lot more done when it’s just the two of us with no distractions.

The boys are up and the oldest read an entire book, 214 pages, in 1 hour 52 minutes last night! He’d been wanting this particular book and really wanted to buy all 8 of them in the series. I told him we’d buy them as he read them. Well this got him going so he read the 1st book in 1 night! It’s finally cool here today and will struggle to hit 70. It sure feels good outside.

Time to take a shower as I need to be at the doctor by 8am. You really need to take an active role in any diagnosis and don’t just assume the doctor is always right. The other day when my blood pressure reading was really high, it turns out it was first because they were using a small “cuff”. I learned this when on the second day a nurse told me to always make them switch to a larger cuff because my arms are so big. That’s right, medical proof that I have big muscles! Apparently the small cuff on a big arm will always give an inflated reading, who knew? Obviously not the first nurse!

Oh well the misses works today from 9:30 until 2 and is in the shower ahead of me. Time to run, hope all’s well and we’ll be sure to let you know if I in fact do have listeria. If I do, first thing we will do is call the lawyer who’s handling the big suit against the producer as apparently I’d have a check coming! Just kidding, (although there is a big lawsuit), I’ll just be glad to finally figure out what’s been bugging me and then get ready for our trip.

Take car and God Bless,

Dad Is Under The Weather

Good morning.  We (My man and I) woke up a bit after 4:00a.m. The mister has not been feeling great…chest pain, foggy head, dizziness and he is pale. He went to the doc yesterday and started a round of antibiotics. After dinner last night he headed off to bed. That was about 6:0p.m. so, he got about 11 hours of sleep, hopefully the much needed rest accompanied by medication will kick whatever it is he has. It could of course be that nasty bug named STRESS… with all of the reorganizing he has been working on I wouldn’t be surprised. We (The boys and I) will try to maintain a CALM atmosphere on the home front.  Wish us luck and say more than one prayer.

The boys did their homework and headed out the door to ride their bikes, play legos and then a game of tag with the neighbor kids across the street.  There were six kids total playing tag.  The munchkins laughter was infectious; accompanied by squeals of delight attributed to getting away from their predator or catching their prey. This was dependent on whether or not they were “It”.

After I called the boys in for bed the three of us decided to watch a fairy tale called Enchanted. I let them stay up past their normal bedtime until 8:30p.m. when I tucked them in with a minimal power struggle. I played the “Dad is not feeling well” card and that pretty much sealed the bedtime deal.

Today is another “Early  release” day. The kiddos get out of school at 12:15. I don’t remember having any early release days when I went to school.  I’ll have to ask.  Do any of you remember having days when you went home early and it wasn’t because you were sick?

Thee Mister has a business guest coming in for a few days of work tonight. He arrives at 10:00p.m. and I should probably be the one to pick him up at the airport. I have to clean out the guest room this morning. You see…when I re-vamped the youngest’s room…I moved all of his dad’s clothes onto the guest beds . UGG…I could really use another closet….or a giant dumpster.

The youngest is looking over his Valentines from last year and seems to remember the type of candy he got with each card. Amazing. He is holding his Snoopy card from Grandma and reading it aloud. His bag of goodies also contains his Golden Snitch, magic bag, book mark and various goodies from his Harry Potter birthday party.  It is all valuable treasure to him.

My dad called from Golds Beach. He was overjoyed. The jubilance in his voice was palpable. He is there salmon fishing which is one of his most joyous hobbies. He told me that 5 or 10 minutes after he dropped his line into the Rogue River he hooked and caught a 5lb salmon. Shortly after that he hooked another fish that he had to battle for an hour and a half to land…it was a 45lb salmon. His arms were worn out from the fish fight, so he decided to sit down and crack open a beer.  Of course he dropped his fishing line in the water before taking a seat. Like any good fisherman would. He no sooner sat down and opened his beer when BAMM another hit. My dad enjoyed another fine fish battle to land yet another fish…this time a 43 pounder. I let him know in no uncertain terms that I will be expecting  A LOT of smoked salmon when we return from Italy. Yum!! Needless to say my dear old dad sounded like a kid that just got to buy the Whole candy store. I think he will stay and fish for a few more days instead of heading home today.  He is happiest on the water or in a duck blind.  Good times for Daddy!!

Grandma Dixie and Pa Don are heading out on the Highway October 15th in our direction. They should arrive by the 18th or 19th in their new vintage motor home with a new mini car in tow.  Maybe I can talk my dad into sending the salmon with them! We are all excited to see them and it will be fun to have them here for Halloween…Get your costumes ready family!!

The boys are hungry, so I am off to cook breakfast.

Have a lovely day and God Bless,

LLF

I got nothin

It’s 5am and I really don’t have a lot to say today. I’m just kind of drawing a blank.

Yesterday I had a productive day at work and the misses did upstairs as well. The kids arrived home from school around 3 on their bikes and jumped right into their homework. After that it was out to their bikes. Mom made meat loaf for dinner and then we all watched a little tv before heading to bed.

For the past couple days, I’ve kind of been in a fog. Have you ever felt like your heads foggy and you need to shake it out? The misses says I have allergies but I don’t know. We both think we need to give up sugar and stop drinking so much coffee. She might be right on both accounts. This morning I’ve only had 1 cup and think I’ll stop there as I’m already kind of buzzing. I also am going to avoid all sugar today to see if I feel better.

The misses works today from 9:30 until 5pm. Yesterday her close friend and co-worker, Carrie, gave her two week notice. Now we’re not sure how she can do this as her husband is pretty much an unemployed architect. We think he just got a couple of jobs but it’s been real tough for them too. The misses might not be too far behind. $10.50 an hour, with no real benefits like health insurance or a 401K,  after taxes just doesn’t do much but it’s better than nothing. She’s looking for something else as retail is not a pleasant experience. Even in Whole Foods, there’s a lot of wackos.

Somethings coming, I can feel a change in the air. I’m not sure what it is, a career change for one of us? Some opportunity we don’t expect? Just something. Grandma Dixie called the other day concerned about us or rather me, after reading a post. I assured her I’m fine but thanked her for her concern. I explained that I (or we) are ok, it’s just that we’re not sure that what we’re doing in life is where we want to be, or supposed to be, in the future. Call it a late mid life crisis if you will. Not sure what it all means but we’ll keep you posted.

More work to do today on reorganizing the Company to meet the challenges we now face and get ready for 2012. No matter what happens, I know this is the way to go and hope my partners agree as the status quo just doesn’t work. Maybe all this has something to do with some sort of change. I’m not really worried as I have a few other job opportunities if it ever came to that. Who knows, it might be the best thing if I took on a new opportunity, I guess it’s all in the master plan of the big guy so I shouldn’t really worry about it, whatever happens, will happen. At least we own a bunch of stock, maybe we’ll go sell a bunch of that!

Oh well, I’d better go make some calls and catch some people in Italy as it’s almost 2 in the afternoon there. If you wait until 10am here, it’s 6pm there and hard to get ahold of people.

We’re all excited for our trip and we sure need the break, especially the misses and I. This time next week we will be there.

We just found out we owe a bunch in taxes on October 15th, super! That’s another issue I have with my company, we get profit distribution on our K1’s or tax forms but don’t get any cash distributions to pay the bill. It’s like we can’t afford to own our stock. Oh well, sorry to jump back into ranting about my job. Don’t worry Grandma Dix, I’ll be fine.

Anyhow, time to run, hope everyone is well, have a great day and God Bless.

p.s. it’s a big weekend for Grandma as the Green Bay Packers play the Denver Broncos! I guess it’s not that big of a weekend as she’ll for sure be cheering for the Packers!

Monday Morning

Good morning…sorry for the late start. We woke up at 5:50a.m. and the youngest wanted to head downstairs. He slept in his bed for most of the night, but climbed into ours at 2:30 a.m. He kicked the Mister at 3:34a.m. It must have been one heck of a kick because I was startled awake by a loud…”What the H@#L, Lori”, followed closely by “Sorry”. Needless to say it was another sleepless night for both of us. I am going to have to redirect the little one back to his own bed in order for us to get a decent nights sleep.  The youngest has always maintained that he has bad dreams.  I know as a child I had crazy, horrible bad dreams…nightmares… ranging from being in a car that drives off the levee into the water, to giant spiders climbing down from the ceiling. I am sure that my mom was awakened, startled so to speak, many times.  I remember my mom coming in my room often and I was really afraid to go back to sleep. So…that is my reason…or excuse if you prefer for letting the munchkin climb in our bed. He could very well be working the system, but how do you know if he really had a bad dream or not. I’ll let him tell me when he is 20 okay…maybe 12.

This morning I made french toast, bacon, eggs and regular toast..plus a side of oatmeal to start this Monday morning off right. We sat down to breakfast at 6:30 and the boys were finished at 6:35. They got dressed, watched an old episode of that Australian Crocodile Guy and then brushed their teeth to head off to school. We rode our bikes to school…what a nice way to start the day. Fresh air, a bit of exercise, a little chit chat and a quiet ride home. It is a bit of an uphill climb home, so we will see if they notice how much harder their little muscles have to work after school.

We passed a huge 3 story English Tudor style house on the ride this morning and both boys commented on how quiet the street and the house was.  The youngest immediately said, “That house would definitely not be that quiet if we lived there”. Very matter of fact in his tone…his observation…”Definitely” on the money.

The eldest had a great time at the birthday party he attended yesterday. The kids played football, ran races, and rode on their scooters and skateboards for a couple of hours. When his dad got to the park to pick him up he…(our grown up young man) politely asked if he and the Mister could stay for a half hour… to which his father replied, “Yes”. So, they arrived home at about 5:00. The boys played with the neighbor kids out front and then decided to head down to the Cul de Sac. The kids down there were playing street hockey and of course all of these boys joined in.  The youngest took a shot to his eye with what is called a hockey ball..somewhere in between a tennis ball and a lacrosse ball.  He has a bit of a bruise and said the shot was deliberate. I have no doubt that it was a deliberate shot…We told our two boys in no uncertain terms that they are not to play with this boy.. he is off limits! This boy is almost 12 or is 12…he is a competitive hockey player and I feel he has some anger issues that will probably support his sport of choice in the future.  He has a sweet younger brother that is welcome to come up and play, but my guys need to steer clear of the older one.

I know it is early…but…we started putting up Halloween decorations. Just a few. We have everything else ready to go up October 1st.  I think people will know we are out of town if the yard is not decorated, plus this way we can enjoy the decorations upon our return home from Italy.

The Mister made ribs and sauerkraut  for dinner last night.Have I mentioned how much I love, love, love it when he cooks? The meal was great. However, the boys are still acquiring a taste for sauerkraut. They have no problem with coconut cream pie…too bad coconut cream pie is not a nutrient dense meal.

Tonight is  meatloaf…maybe I’ll try to sneak some zucchini in.  I’ll fill you in on how that goes over tomorrow. The house is still clean, only one load of laundry to do and a quick go over with the vacuum. What will I do with my free time?

Have a great day…God Bless

Soccer, a clean basement and bbq

Yesterday we finally had a morning soccer game so we were done by noon. It was really hot and the misses wore jeans and a black shirt which she soon regretted. When we arrived home, I went down and gave the basement and my office a much needed overhaul. It was a mess and filled with clutter which resulted in 3 full lawn and leaf trash bags. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful with the boys having hot dogs for dinner while the misses and I had a bowl of soup. This brings us to the bbq being left on at full power all night. It seems the misses forgot to turn it off so our gas bbq blazed away until I fed the dogs at 7am. It sure is clean now as everything was white hot and any scrap of food was turned to dust. Thankfully it didn’t melt the bbq or blow up! This will now be another thing on my nightly list to check as sometimes the door doesn’t get locked or the alarm isn’t turned on. We’ve had some break in’s to cars that left their doors unlocked. I don’t know if you can call it a “break in” when the doors aren’t locked but anyhow, there seems to be some bad people lurking around the neighborhood.

This morning we’re headed to Red Rocks for some exercise and then will do some work around the house. I also have a lot of work to do before we leave for Italy.

Tomorrow a comet (Elian) which has garnered a lot of attention will be in perfect alignment with the earth. This has to do with gravitational pull or something but is somehow related to all the solar flare activity as well. I told you all before about the Australian Space Agency reports that show daily solar flare activity. Well for what it’s worth, the past few days have averaged over 12 incidences or flares each day where in the previous month there have been 2 or 3 a day. I don’t know what this means if anything but it is abnormally high based on current trends. The President arrives tomorrow (and is supposedly bringing the wife and kids) for a campaign stop but also (they say) to be in a safe place, “just in case” there is some truth to this comet thing. You see DIA or Denver International Airport, has a big underground government structure beneath it the size of Manhattan. The public has no access to this but I know several contractors that worked on it when it was built and there’s a bunch of additional underground structures there for sure. Did you know that if Washington D.C. is ever unable to function as the Capitol of the U.S., Denver automatically becomes the new U.S. Capitol of our country. Anyhow Denver is one of the safest places to be in times of trouble whether from climate issues or conflict based on where we are. Not to go to far into this but the Federal Center which has been here (and is only about 3 miles from our house) since we were kids, has has numerous upgrades in the past 5 years. It too is really big spanning at least a 6 or 8 square mile area. First was the construction of St Anthony’s Hospital (a brand new hospital with the most advanced equipment ever), the addition of over 5000 solar panels making the complex capable of powering itself off the grid, a bunch of new buildings with no windows, and the relocation of about half of the CIA from Washington D.C. to Denver. That’s right, we now have a lot of spooks right here in the mile high city. The joke is it should make for a good Halloween.

Anyhow the point is, our government has been busy preparing for hard and uncertain times ahead, why aren’t you? I could go on and on but I think you get my point. We (the city) also just completed a 2 day disaster drill in Denver that cost tens of millions of dollars and spanned the whole city from downtown to the airport to Colorado Springs and the Norad (North American Air Defense) facility which is over 60 miles away. They say it was the largest disaster drill ever conducted by our government. Police, Fire, many branches of the military and numerous government agency’s all participated. Military helicopters have been buzzing overhead for days and even shopping malls were part of the drill. The activity was so big they had to give warnings on the news for a few days ahead of time so people wouldn’t freak out. Anyhow I guess it’s good to see we’re preparing for the worst here, just in case.

Well I tried to get the misses to write today but she’s been busy with that damn dog trying to get him to eat. It’s going to be hot again so the kids will be out in full force. It’s almost 8:30 and hopefully we’ll be off to exercise by 9. Hope you all are well, take care and God Bless.

p.s. the new show Pan Am about stewardesses (yes that’s what they called them back then) is on tonight! The misses is excited to watch it and see how they portray them just for fun! I’ll be watching football but let you know if the misses puts on her uniform to watch the show!

Sorry we’re late!

I woke up at 5am as usual but instead of grabbing the computer, I decided to read the paper and then go to the gym. It’s now 8am and after an hour of weightlifting and 20 minutes of cardio plus a stop at the grocery store, I’m ready to get going.

I had to laugh at Aunt Robi’s (my little sister) comment about yesterdays post. For those of you that missed it, she said “well after reading that, I’m glad I don’t have any money!”.

While this is funny, everyone could soon be in the same boat but enough doom and gloom as today it’s Saturday! We need to be at the little guys soccer game by 10am and before then need to buy snacks as it’s our week. Yesterday Mom was gone almost the whole day so it was the boys and I until about 5pm. My life long good friend Harry showed up to join us for dinner. He’s from Colfax CA and here doing some work for his little sister. It’s always good to see him. We had a little drama last night as it seems Bunkie (the little diabetic dog) ate some rat poisoning. Now I don’t know why L.O.L. had rat poison out but that damn dog ate it! He threw up (good sign) and was drinking lots of water. The misses called emergency (vets) who said “bring him in”. After the misses reviewed all the facts, i.e. when he ate it, is he eating and drinking, etc, she decided he didn’t need to go in and we’d just monitor him throughout the night. She’s down there now and good news is he made it through the night. On top of that, Mojo the giant malamute, was howling all freakin night! Finally at 3am, we brought him in. Needless to say, we didn’t get much sleep.

Well the “space junk” (sounds like a strip bar from Star Wars) apparently missed us as we’re still here. Nice that they can’t even tell where it’s going to hit. They probably should have thought about it coming down before they sent it up! This afternoon after soccer I need to do some work as I have a lot to do and I’m basically changing the way the company operates. Wish me luck on this one, it’s pretty radical. I had the lawn guys (great mexican kids that mow for $20 a week which is cheaper than we can do it) skip us yesterday as the grass isn’t that long and it saves $20! We’re all also getting real excited for our upcoming trip.

Mom just got home and everyone is fine but L.O.L. has a cold. At 90 years old, this isn’t an easy thing, now we’ll have to watch her. I think my Mom’s 78 or so but she seems 25 or 30 years younger than June (L.O.L., stands for little old lady). This isn’t a knock on June but rather a testament to how good my Mom looks and gets around. She just seems like she’s from another younger generation. I’m sure my Mom will live to at least 100 the way she’s going. She does need to exercise more though, are you listening Mom? Uncle T quit smoking about a week ago, yea! From what I know, he’s still going strong, hope I’m right.

Well time to hit the showers as I need to be at the bank by 9am and then as I said earlier, have to get snacks for the soccer game. Hope you all are having a good weekend. Tomorrow I’ll make the misses write as I’m sure you miss her musings.

Take care and God Bless,
